CUBS POSTCAST: The Chicago Cubs and Ian Happ WALK OFF the Pirates for the WIN on the Father’s Day!

[Music] this is the Cubs Post Cast your instant game reaction for the Chicago Cubs part of the Locked On podcast network your team every day what’s up everybody welcome in to the Locked On Cubs postcast here on the Locked On Cubs YouTube channel my name is Joe George and the Cubs walk-off the Pittsburgh Pirates get the win three to2 on Father’s Day happy Father’s Day to all of you out there or to your dads uh yourselves but look the Cubs get the win today and hey we’ll celebrate in that fashion with Ian Hap coming through in the clutch you can find me on all social media platforms Joe Radio if you’re listening on audio you can tweet me or hit me up with your questions or comments on all social media platforms or live here on the chat as well we’ll talk about the win what we saw from this game a lot of the same problems persisted in this game uh for the Cubs lineup but they did find a way to win three out of four against the Pirates we saw Colin Ray be excellent after the first inning giving up a couple runs we’ll talk about the big day off that the Cubs need uh that they’re getting tomorrow and the upcoming series against the Milwaukee Brewers so the Cubs win 3-2 a win is a win again back-to-back days is how we will start to show off on this one look it starts off two to2 in the first inning like this feels like for the first time we’re going to see more than three runs scored by the winning team in this game the B the Pirates come out and score two in the first the Cubs respond with two in the first with some small ball as we’ve been talking about that was nice to see uh and then they don’t do anything after the third inning till the ninth didn’t have a runner on base uh or hit from the third inning to the ninth inning of the game so they go quiet but in the end Ian App comes through there and look it was a little stressful again but the Cubs did what they had to do in this game so let’s talk through what we saw in this one start here in the first inning so bottom of the first Ian Hack gets the walk in the stolen base so you’ve got a runner on second with nobody out pca hits the ground out to the first baseman so that moves him to third so it’s runner on third base with one out in the inning sea Suzuki grounds out hey you know what it’s one It’s two to one there okay the Cubs are right back in this game not like it was a big deficit there’s two outs uh Michael Bush gets the automatic double uh so you got a runner on second with two outs and Danby Swanson hopefully the last two days is what is to come uh for Danzy hopefully he’s back to where we kind of see signs with him right where when he was struggling earlier in the year it was it was two or three games in a row some home runs that really felt like it got him going again so he gets the big home run yesterday and in this game Danby comes up gets the RBI single there in the first inning and then he gets another hit later in the game so he goes two for four with no strikeouts in the game the Cubs only struck out four times in this game uh Birdie responsible for two of those meuire and half the other uh but so we saw hopefully some positive signs from Dan because if he can get going like if he’s going to be your fifth sixth guy in the in the lineup we know guys are getting on in front of him so he’s got to be bringing guys home and he did that in this one and then Michael Bush gets on again in the third inning and then the Cubs don’t have a runner on base until the ninth where Danby hits that single uh so you got a runner on first their first runner uh again uh since the third inning nico her gets a double to get second and third with two outs and they don’t do anything with it justin Turner comes up i was a little surprised i thought that might be the time where we saw Kyle Tucker come into the game um I guess you don’t want to see him intentionally walk but they played that strategy there in you know in the tenth but thought we might see Kyle Tucker come off the bench in that situation there in the bottom of the ninth uh to get it done they did not they left Justin Turner uh out there and he eventually is out um in there in that situation so the Cubs don’t score in the bottom of the ninth we go to extras and the bullpen continues to do what they’ve been doing of recent which is just be excellent they have been fantastic they are the brightest of bright spots for the Chicago Cubs as they were in this game and if you look what they did in this one Caleb Thebar he goes three up uh he gets his three outs with only allowing to walk cabrera gets his three outs with only allowing to walk ryan Presley comes in in the ninth strikes out the first two batters he faces and gets out of it and Chris Flexon with a runner on second is absolutely fantastic get a ground out to Danby Swanson so you got one out the runner stays on second base and then a fly out to Suzuki not a deep one so the runner stays on second base and then Nicoer is who we are going to give our locked on player of the game to this is the locked player of the game so even though Nicoer does not have uh a big impact from the lineup in this game does have that double that the Cubs could do nothing with Nico is our locked on player of the game today because of what he did there in the top of the 10th inning that thing was a rope right to center field and Nico makes a great diving catch there to save the game from the Cubs because honestly I don’t think anyone feels good enough about the lineup right now where they feel like the Cubs are down three to2 going into the 10th inning that the way it played out is actually how it would have played out if the Cubs were down so Nico her fantastic play he’s been excellent this year with the glove we know he’s a goal glover himself but to go out there and make that play fantastic diving catch from Nico so for that reason I will give Nico her uh my locked on player of today’s game and then again yes the 10th inning so they walk Kyle Tucker so it’s first and second with nobody out they pull a double steel here so you got second and third with no outs birdie strikes out who is playing uh for Matt Shaw who also had the day off like Kyle Tucker and then Ian Hap comes up gets it done on Father’s Day and gets the victory so it wasn’t easy this series at all it was not easy it was a grind for four games for the Cubs they should have swept them honestly uh they should have won this thing 40 but they come out of this series in which the Milwaukee Brewers are going to be the second team in the division at five and a half back the Cardinals and the Reds are both going to be at seven games back in the division right now so you’ve pushed back the Cardinals a little bit because of what they did against the Brewers but so it wasn’t easy but all you can do is find a way to win and that’s what the Cubs did this series obviously we all want more from the offense uh but you’re just not getting that right now but for now I’ll take a victory in this series winning three out of four we’ll talk more about Colin Ray when we get back these upcoming series versus the Brewers and plus your questions and comments as well live here on YouTube all coming up next here on the Lock on Cups Post today’s episode’s brought to you by Wonderful Pistachios looking for a snack that’s both delicious and nutritious get snacking get cracking with the snack that packs the protein punch visit wonderfulpistachios.com to learn more all right what we saw from Colin Ray in this game so he comes out there gives up two runs in the first inning now we know Colin Ray has been a little bit of a roller coaster as of late i think is the nice way uh to put it but he’s done a really good job uh in this game and overall this season so good to see him give up two runs there in the first and then rebound in a big way so Colin Ray on the day goes six innings gives up four hits two earned runs and four strikeouts 81 pitches on the day look I I can’t imagine where this Cubs team would be without guys like Colin Ray and Jameson Tyion and Matthew Boyd and what they’ve done um they they just continue to go out there and for the most part perform on a very consistent basis and and they really just have been the driver of why this team is where it’s at like you do look at the early season results you know for the lineup and how good it was the first 30 days of the season uh and then you obviously play a much easier part of your schedule and they’re and they’re scuffling right now they are the lineup is but your pitching has been able to go out there really this entire season your starting pitching and it’s been very very good and just keeps this thing going in a direction um that is why I think this team can rebound from the the struggles a little bit that they’re in right now like I I still am a firm believer in this offense i’m not going to back down from that i know a lot of people seem to want to be jumping off this lineup is good bandwagon uh I’m not there i’m not even close to it yet they’re going through a rough patch right now but as we’ve seen in this series like one of the positives I’ll take away from it and trying to be you know a positive thinker about where this team is going and where I think they can one of my data points I’ll use here is they had a lot of hard hit contact in this series um I I think that they can really get this thing going again uh specifically they do do need like their their leader of their offense Kyle Tucker to really get humming again once he’s going once Suzuki’s going this offense shows you what they can do um but right now it’s just been a struggle but this is more about the pitching it’s just been excellent craig Council is pulling all the right strengths too uh he deserves a lot of credit for what he what’s going on here you know when you look at what this team has gone through this year with having to have three different closers already at this point in the season you’re bringing in guys off of expired contracts guys who have been cut by teams you know guys who have been you know left for dead basically in Major League Baseball like Drew Pomearance and they just keep coming out there and performing so between Craig Council and Jed Hoyer you know winning in the margins in terms of you know what this bullpen has done they’ve done excellent they’ve done an excellent excellent job um I know a lot of people are are frustrated with what we’re seeing from not just the lineup but the the very bottom portion aka the guys who don’t play uh with Justin Turner and Birdie and Bruhan obviously those guys are not having a lot of success right now uh they’re not playing a lot though either and now I’m curious what we’re going to see in this next stretch of games for the Cubs because Craig Council talked a lot about giving guys days off and we saw Kyle Tucker out today we saw uh PCA have a day off last Sunday this one for Tucker makes a lot of sense give him backto-back um days off you know look you got to give guys off at some point and he’s playing it every single day would I rather see Kyle Tucker DH yes um instead of having the full day off absolutely but we’ve all kind of seen like his swing has not been where you know it was earlier in the season before he hurt his finger but if he can get this thing going he’s really the catalyst that can get the Cubs going first of all that’s why you traded for him to really be the leader of this offense going forward to be the guy that sets the tone uh and they’re missing that and I think another one this is a fair comment here in the chat the the lack of production here uh from the from the catcher position that to me is where from earlier in the season what we saw with the Cubs lineup to what we’re seeing now I think that was always the most obvious that was going to happen like what Kelly was doing was so unrealistic um and Miguel Maya will come back at some point this season we haven’t got the encouraging updates that we’ve gotten on like Porter Hodgej uh and and Sha who Sha will pitch on Friday in the Miners and then I and hopefully he’ll be back after that game but uh for his next start with the Cubs that’d be awesome to see and maybe like this could be Ben Brown’s you know one of his last two starts for the Cubs honestly in uh on Tuesday you know we might not he might be the guy that’s sent down if come back up because I don’t think it’s going to be uh Kate Horton so it showed a pitch as well on Friday uh in Iowa I believe or for Iowa I believe it is uh hopefully we’ll see him back in the rotation in the next 10 days it just adds to what this team uh can do and and where they can go because you need that top lawn guys look there’s been a lot of conversations about the trade deadline coming up everywhere on this show any website you read or radio show you listen to Matt and Sam’s show you know it’s there just feels like there’s not the the big names that we were all hopeful for for the Cubs to go out and acquire um at the deadline like so I I think we also have to kind of limit your expectations a little bit of terms of who is actually going to be made available at the deadline and what the Cubs can add i just don’t know if that the ace is going to be walking through the door at this point uh in the season so look you get the day off tomorrow kucker gets it off today so he’s got backto-back days off here and you got a really important part of your schedule coming up here to where yes he won three out of four against the Pirates we got the Brewers coming up now and this is an important series you got to win two out of three you’ve got to You cannot lose this series to the Brewers you have to continue to keep just them at arms length for as much as possible they are going to figure this thing out they kind of have already they’ve kind of closed this gap they’ve passed the Cardinals in terms of the division race itself you have to make your mark here between the series against the Brewers and then you got another one coming up against the Cardinals right around the corner these are big series coming up big big series like this feels like the biggest series um not of the season total but of the year so far is these ones coming up just because of the way that your offense is playing your lineup is not playing well if you’re going to get right that’s the right time uh to do it you got to get going against the Milwaukee Brewers here you got to take two out of three and just keep pushing this thing along as you can tell I’m sick uh so we’re going to wrap up early here today as I’m dying doing this show uh so you can find me on all social media platforms Joe Radio uh hit us up on YouTube you can subscribe there we’re live after every single game we’ll be back on Tuesday uh as well anywhere you get your audio podcast Apple Spotify as well you can find us there tweet me Colin Rea was excellent after the 1st inning for the Chicago Cubs. Dansby Swanson and Seiya Suzuki had RBI’s in the 1st inning and then Ian Happ was the HERO of the game and walks it off for the Cubs in the bottom of the 10th inning!

  1. guess this one is payback for Friday's loss.

Is anyone else gonna say it? Kyle Tucker is good but not 400 million good. I dont even see why he gets 300. Isaac Paredes has more homers and rbis than him now. Just sayin.

  2. Ok. This is one of two things. Either this horrific team slump has found them totally incapable of hitting mediocre or bad pitchers, and they got away with it 6 out of seven times at home against the Rockies and Pirates. They won’t get away with it a game longer. A long, agonizing losing streak awaits. Or……this is a team with a different make-up. They know how to win. They pick each other up incredibly…and we will see them deep in the playoffs, beating the stinking Dodgers…and advancing to the World Series.
Which one will it be. I’ll take the latter…or something close to it!

  3. I was gonna watch and really enjoy this game tonight. But since I was as work and the pod popped up on my phone telling me the outcome in the title of the podcast I guess I will miss out on that. And unsubscribe until you guys stop giving away the result. Screw this ahow
