🔴LIVE 🔴Houston Astros VS Oakland Athletics / June 16/Baseball Envivo/MLB the show 25

all right J set to go and on the hill today Jeffrey Springs what’s the word on him well no doubt about it he’s going to have to put together some consistently good performances in order to bring that erra down now he’s got good stuff he’s just got to be able to have confidence trust it and really go after hitters not nibble trust that his stuff can have late life in miss barrels of bats now at the plate Jeremy Pñena singing he’s never finished the season with more stolen bases in his entire career on the ground tosses to first one out in the top of the first now we check out the Astros lineup and Chris this group has been struggling to put up runs lately well they haven’t been on base a ton and even when they are they haven’t been hitting very well with runners on base so they need a player or two to really step up have some quality at bats hit according to the situation and sort of break out of this i think if they do the rest of this lineup will follow yiner Diaz stands in now and watches strike one one out base is empty foul ball and a pitch that one missed i don’t think he was trying to miss by that much in an 02 count just tried to overthrow that pitch not close with that one and now two balls and two strikes come on Jeffrey and it’s fouled off they’ll do it again one down base is empty struck him out looking bill just couldn’t pull the trigger on the fast ball right there and I don’t think he was taking it thinking it might be a cold ball or anything i just think he was flat out frozen did not expect that location in my opinion jose Altuve in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike two out base is empty so a foul ball makes it one and two this guy at the dish excels in two strike counts got to be careful with him out there on the mound just missing there two and two really good take especially with two strikes and that one lifted in the air center field clark makes the grab and that is that we’ll go to the bottom of the first 0 0 and we’re back and on the hill Brandon Walter what do you have on him Chris well he brings into this one an excellent strikeout to walk ratio on the season and when you consider the amount of swings and misses that he gets and the fact that he’s not issuing free passes that’s going to make him more economical in his pitch count allow him to move into the middle and deeper part of ball games so we’ll see if that remains true in this one and now the DH Lawrence Butler first pitch misses and another ball hard hit left side gior made a first one gone bottom half of the first and let’s take a look at the lineup someone who makes things happen for them in part with his legs denzel Clark well Boo you know I love guys that can run and this guy has great speed we’ll see in this game if he gets a chance to use it and if he does I think even you are going to be really impressed because he can really impact the game with his wheels and you like guys that can score he’s definitely able to do that jacob Wilson stands in here takes ball one low and that’s in for a strike and the count one and one let’s go jacob swing and a miss as he was out front that time that one inside look out next pitch is outside [Applause] swang and a miss struck him out out number two he had him out in front which isn’t easy to do against a hitter like this known for using the entire field just couldn’t sit back long enough on that one two outs space is empty next up for the A’s Brent Rooker and first offering is fouled off two down nobody on and there’s a foul ball that’s down and in he’s great hitting the ball the other way and that pitch did a good job to straighten him up a bit mission accomplished and that one is lifted in the air hmel moving under it nabs it and the inning is over scoreless after one and welcome back to the ballpark top of the second Big Keratini at the plate springs back to work that one found hard the other way out there to center and that will fall so a man on base to start the inning hitting is really easy for some guys one thing that I can see already his bat stays in the zone on plane for an extended period of time and guys like that they have a high contact rate and they have more barrels because of that bat being on plane and even when you don’t get it great it’s still hit hard enough to dunk something in like that in front of the center fielder so up next Jake Meyers and that is out of play keratini aboard here at first with nobody out check swing did he go yes he did [Applause] swing and a miss struck him out quick three pitch strikeout and you look at the sequence the plan was clearly to work him inside didn’t want to let him get his arms extended make him a little bit uncomfortable in there and he ended up overmatching him in the process that’s one you have to take note of as a hitter for next time you come to the plate cam Smith now at the plate and a first pitch fast is in for a strike and there’s a rocket into the outfield lead runner around second headed for the plate the relay and they put the tag on him for the out [Applause] so the go-ahehead run in scoring position hmel digs in now there’s the strike well they’re looking to get on the board first here after that clutch two out double made this inning interesting late on that fast ball i wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball try to go again with a fast ball slightly elevated he just having a hard time catching up up and in ball one fights it off he’ll see another two outs and a swing and a miss and he’s registered three Ks in this one i think the key is arm action on the change up when you can sell it like a fast ball you drop the velocity you get the swinging mess and you walk off the field bottom of the inning and here’s the catcher austin wins austin wins in his fifth season batting in the cleanup spot and he was a 10th round pick back in 2013 right through there for a strike a change up missing and that’s ball one kenny Jansen doing homeplay duties in this one not a huge strike zone from Jansen so he can’t really be called a pitcher umpire but he does like the bottom part of the strike zone we may see some pitchers steal a few strikes down there especially the ones right below the knees that’s if their catcher can present it properly and there’s a ball what about some non nos like you can’t call the umpire blue the way you do in little league or high school right yeah even in the minor leagues you’ll learn quickly uh you call the umpire blue you better learn his name and uh that’s just part of being a professional player and even a major league player sitting off speed there timing wasn’t quite right on the fast ball even to try to late emergency hack and foul it off but very quality pitch located i like that little two seam armside run to the outside corner of the plate max Muny in the box with one away as he takes ball one second inning here no score and that’s through there for a strike and one and one that one missed that one fouled off two and two one down base is empty and it remains two and two knocks that one away and will do it again two-2 fast ball is outside [Applause] strike three and that’s two in a row off to a strong start Singy as he’s punched out three of the first five he’s faced well he’s definitely minimizing contact he can get the swing and miss when he needs it but he’ll also keep the defense fresh behind him allowing some balls in play as well now it’s the rookie first baseman Nick Curts and that’s way high and that’s ball one and that drops in for a strike the one-1 is fouled off gets a piece and stays alive foul ball still a one and two count hot shot to third gior to first three up three down inning over a’s go quickly and quietly there we’ll move to the third with no score and we’re back here’s the second base mauricio Dubon mauricio Dubon that’s in for a strike first pitch strike right there for him he’s going to have to do that consistently if he’s going to give any length to his skipper outside with a breaking ball and a seed into center that’s a base hit man aboard on the leadoff single well a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle we saw the numbers coming into the ball game but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win here’s Luis Gior fought off foul that’s a strike across the top of the zone don’t play situation here he’s been working up in the zone typically you look for guys to get that ground ball see if he adjusts on this next pitch and the 02 gior checks his swing appeal to third did not go dubong gets his lead at first nobody out and a ball in two strikes squirts away a little bit swing and a high-fly ball left field leed on his way over and it’s caught for the out now batting short stop Jeremy so the lineup flips over jeremy Pñena up next for the Astros 0 for one thought he grounded out in his first at bat ruer takes off deep drive down the line foul ball man at first one away the shorts stop takes the ball and that’s a base hit throw into third and the throw’s offline safe at third i could watch base hits like that one all day long and so could every hitting coach in the league just a nice line drive into center field runner in scoring position now and a good opportunity to push across the first run of the ball game at the plate is the Astros catcher Yiner Diaz just missed the last thing he wants is to hit the ball on the ground but I wouldn’t expect many pitches up in the zone they’ll be pitching for a double play in this spot lefty out of the stretch runners at first and third [Applause] that one is absolutely belted clark ranging back out of here his second homer this series and they tack on three it’s three nothing that’s a fun way to take the lead just hit one out of the park took on the big part of the yard for that home run and just barely got it over the wall i thought for a second he brought it back out there too he gave it a great effort but you know those plays are so tough to pull off and I’m sure he’d love to have another shot at it one down and here is Jose Altuve and that misses and it’s one and0 altuve has a lot of history with the Astros in fact he’s played so many seasons in Houston that he’s the only player to be named an all-star in both leagues while playing for the same team you know Boo Aluve goes back all the way to those Astros days in the NL Central before they moved to the AL West still only one out here in the inning springs maybe a little less aggressive on the mound right now after that home run Chris yeah it seems that way you know pitchers they can come out feel good but then all of a sudden get touched up a little bit and they start trying to throw instead of pitch they’re not trusting their stuff fast for a strike well he’s been good for the most part is it going to take someone going out to the mound to maybe refocus him a bit well partner every pitcher is a little different i I liken it to you sometimes you come in and you’re not as focused and I kind of do what it takes to get you on track and then you have a great show uh so perhaps it’s the same with him nobody really wants their rhythm broken up but sometimes they need a little pickme up victor Keratini up next for the Astros one for one with a single so far swing and a liner foul off to the right two gone base is empty but three runs across we’re here in the top half of inning number three foul ball it stays nothing and two and that one almost got him straighten him up a little bit next pitch is inside and the count is two and two swing and a miss struck him out make it four strikeouts for him on the bump today houston brings in three on this homer it’s now three nothing ready to go for the last half of the inning now it’s the second baseman Luis Urias that’s a bullet but it goes foul pitch in the dirt and it’s one and two and that’s too high foul ball left side he’ll see another flew open a little bit with that front shoulder but was able to slow his bat down just enough to make contact with that pitch keep the atbat alive and that’s their first base runner of the game man at first nobody out this is JJ Blade strike one strike two man he really sells the change up with that arm action gets a piece and it stays 0 and two and a foul ball he stays alive on at first nobody out baby let’s go ground ball left side could be two on to second they get one plenty of time at first that’s a double play he’s so good at coming across the bag and snagging it with the bare hand to throw i like the flare that he brings day in and day out and here’s the rookie center fielder Denzel Clark and that’s in there at the knees two down nobody on there’s a swing and a drive diving makes the grab one of the most fun and exciting things you can do as an outfielder you lay out you make a diving catch and you end the inning that gets the team fired up in the dugout and welcome back to the ballpark here’s the center fielder Jake Myers line drive pulls it in for the out and there’s one away now batting number 11 so next up for Houston Cam Smith doubled his first time and that’s outside ball one base is empty one away top half of inning number four next offering in there for a strike and it’s a ball and a strike just missed looks like he’s being a little cautious with him in this at bat after doubling the first time up doesn’t want to make another mistake a rare three ball count here he’s been throwing strikes all day got to be ready to hit if you’re in the box right through there for a strike ground ball up the middle that’s a base hit so they get a man aboard with a one out single wasting no time he’s two for two now on the night and just a triple and home run away from the cycle seriously we’re starting with this already and stepping in for the Astros Cooper Hmel backed off the plate that time swag a popup foul out of play off to the right side that’ll find the stands in the dirt the Athletics have some bullpen action jp Sears appears to be getting ready and I’m sure he’s feeling some nerves this would be his major league debut nukem also getting ready that one finds a corner two and two here we go turn just misses with that one was good pitch there really had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge and that’s one of those if you swing at it he had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout man that’s a tough one to take on the full count but I guess he saw it really well it’s a really nice plate appearance here’s Mauricio Dubon singled and scored his first time turn top of the zone and it’s called a strike well we call that keyholeing even though it’s right there and looks pretty good if he doesn’t love it he’s not going to swing that early in the count swing and a miss as he was late that time runners at first and second with one gone fights that one away and the count remains 0 and2 fast ball almost got him there two on one out that one in the dirt now two and two recognized that change up right out of the hand just spit on it headed towards the corner and that is a foul ball that wasn’t an easy pitch to hit it’s much easier to do damage against mistakes but that’s not what that pitch was to first might be two wide throw and it gets away smith around third throw pulls him off the bag and he’s saved that one really hurts you’re already down in the game and that error puts you even further behind just can’t let it compound from here though you got to flush it get ready for the next one make a play get back in the dugout and here comes Mark Kat as he’s ready to make a change and go to the bullpen jeffrey Springs will depart and a line not closed on him yet as he’s responsible for the runners on base back with a new pitcher after this now a right-handed arm out of the bullpen Mitch Spence and we all know about his slider it’s just filthy man and one of the better ones in the game I’d say spin rate’s very high and it just breaks a ton two on one out here’s the third baseman Luis Guor he’s 0 for one and a foul ball in the dirt blocked throw to second not in time he’s there easily dubong into scoring possession on the wild pitch and there goes the double play possibility hmel at third dubong over at second with one down the one-1 is fouled off fights that one away still one and two that’s inside ah ground ball and that’s through the infield one run across now a long throw home but it’s offline it’s 6 nothing gets the job done as he brings home a pair really nice job staying up the middle with his approach he didn’t try to do too much with the pitch just shot it through the infield back to the top of the lineup and now Jeremy Pñena one for two that one ripped that’s back there and it one hops the wall coming home cut off throw to third in there safely couldn’t have timed it up any better than that just a beautiful triple from start to finish got a pitch he could drive turned on it and hammered it out front into the gap right out of the box i love how he was hustling and I think he knew he was going for three as soon as it touched down so one gone with a runner at third and next to hit for Houston Yiner Diaz that one finds the zone and it’s 0 and one out to short wilson tosses to first out number two and another run comes in here’s the former MVP Jose Altuve bowl for two in this one and it’s fouled away swing and a miss as he was late and that one cutting but missing down low that one just misses and the count’s even at two and there’s a ball that’s a good at bat right there he was down early in that plate appearance works the walk my partner known for being a touch hacktastic all right you walked 130 times oh my goodness in your career i can’t even believe I can’t I win 13 i I I don’t even seriously I don’t believe that keratini the next to hit takes ball one and there’s the strike swing and a ground ball up the middle that’s a base hit they stop the lead runner at second now two on with two outs up next for the Astros timing on the swing was good able to shoot the ball up the middle didn’t square it up as much as he probably would have liked but that’s a good approach paying off jake Meyers the next to hit first pitch doesn’t find the zone two on two outs and that’s ripped into left base hit the throw in safe in comes the run from second and they now lead by nine well done drives in the run just a solid swing right there caught it out front and ripped it into the outfield for the base hit those always feel great and here is Cam Smith highfly ball on that one curling foul down the right side two on two outs and it’s even up this has been a rough inning but sometimes you just got to work through it save the rest of that bullpen somehow stop the bleeding so a foul ball makes it one and two first and second two down swing and a miss struck him out inning over although plenty of damage done but tack on six more as they just continue to turn it on in this one to the bottom of inning number four now it’s the Astros nine and the A’s nothing lawrence Butler will hit next lawrence Butler come on Lawrence [Applause] and first off is fouled off you know these A’s just lacking discipline at the plate in this ball game they’re chasing a lot of pitches outside the zone and those chases are turning into a bunch of outs can they turn that around and stay within the zone we’ll see but I think they have to next offering is in for a strike well every pitcher wants run support and having a lead is nice but it can be challenging for some pitchers i think keeping the mindset to attack instead of trying to be too fine and have too much finesse go after hitters and get quick outs swing and a fly ball well struck left field and there’s one away that’s just a really nice catch on the run right there he’s saved extra bases for sure if the pitcher’s his friend he’ll give him a second to catch his breath before he’s ready to deal the next pitch jacob Wilson up next for the A’s went down on strikes his first time through swang and a ball lifted in the air fair ball now batting rightielder so man aboard Brent Rooker getting ready to hit fly to left his first time swinging a foul out of play that one catches the zone and the count is 0 and two and look out that one gets him the second man he’s plunked in this one next to hit Austin wins his first at bat was a strike out that one missing inside wilson the lead runner at second rooker over at first with one away right through there for a strike back-to-back fast balls in that last one called for a strike probably go away but look for him to come back in there to try to finish you off and that one way outside two and one could be some action here on this next pitch couple runners on probably a challenge pitch coming runners at first and second with one gone we’re here in the bottom of the fourth misses just off the outside edge i think that was a strike here’s an opportunity to do some damage and perhaps unlock this offense 3-1 count be ready to turn on a fast ball this one popped up foul ground first base side keratini pulls it down and there’s two gone now batting third base Max so first and second with two outs now the third baseman Maxy just missed let’s go and that one fouled off [Music] try to get him to chase on the change up that time that one pushed foul clearly trying to stay back a little bit longer for that change up as he fouls that fast back two outs gets a piece there we’ll do it again inside just missed rip towards third gior to first and he has thrown four shut out innings a strand a couple and they’re down nine nothing we’re back and there’s a new arm on the mound to start the fifth tyler Ferguson and with the big deficit on the scoreboard he almost has to just put that out of his mind every outing matters for relievers in their numbers but I think it’s tough to get up for this type of appearance the same way you would for one in a close game cooper Hmel and stepping in for the Astros Cooper Hmel and there’s one thing on his mind this at bat getting that first hit at the big league level swinging a foul straight back well these Astros putting together some really good at bats in this game there’s been a lot to like with how they’re approaching their chances at the plate it looked to me like they really wanted to get to the starter early get him out of the game before he settles in so I’d say mission accomplished swings and misses and the count one and two now a fly ball to right center clark sizing this one up he makes the grab one down [Applause] second baseman Mauricio Dubon mauricio Dubon up next for the Astros ferguson the tall righty 31 years old and he was a sixthround draft pick back in 2015 that one’s in there that’s strike one fast ball for a strike at 95 looked pretty good as far as being in the strike zone but I’m sure as a hitter not too good with where it was located very top of the strike zone middle away two away now batting third base Luis Gore two down base is empty luis Guate short hop liner handled it short the throw nicely done for the out one two three go the Astros but they still hold a nine nothing lead it’s a bit of a blowout now which gives us a bit more freedom here in the booth i’m not sure that’s a good thing all right Singi you’ve tightened up the hairdo but back when you played how valuable was it to have a barber in the clubhouse well Boo I’m going to say invaluable that’s how valuable that it was because I was the barber yes I was the team barber man i’d be cutting hair 7:05 game i’d be finishing cutting someone’s hair at 6:45 whoa and I’d ask these guys you’re making millions of dollars why can’t you go to a stylist and get your hair done coming to the clubhouse pressuring me to cut your hair before a game foul ball still 0 and2 would they pay you no absolutely not not even a meal on the road so I think it’s great now that most of these teams have professional barbers that come in and make them look fresh before the games [Music] swings and misses on the fast ball up in the zone for the strikeout well that high force seam fast ball it’s become such a staple as a strikeout pitch over the years and what’s so tough as a hitter is that you see it extremely well the problem is the velocity at spin rate just happens to jump by you you expand your zone you don’t stay tall on the backside and you’re really not even able to make contact if you do many times it’s a popup this one could be trouble around first and hustling for second and that’s a double scale of 1 to 10 how good a barber were you for a non-professional I’d say I was probably a seven but if I was comparing to professionals I’d be like a three i’ll never forget the time that I cut José Cono’s hair he had a pretty big melon boot and uh big dome it It took a while yeah there’s a little pressure there too because he had a big date that night and he wanted me to make sure that everything looked good wow yeah he’s a big guy too i didn’t want him to hurt me yeah he’s large leday the next to hit takes outside man at second that pitch clips the outside corner going to count one and two man this guy’s got a great feel for his breaking ball today in the air to left down the line hummel makes the catch for the out and there are two down now batting center Denzel next up for the A’s Denzel Clark and remember he was absolutely robbed of a base hit last time up this guy’s just a tremendously talented center fielder gold glove caliber type out there offensively he can do some things but you know also has some streakiness as well i think the key just trying to find a way for him to be consistent day in and day out you know he saves runs in the outfield so that’s going to buy him more time to work things out at the dish just missed at second with two down just off the outside edge now 2 and 0 in the air right side smith should have this one and he makes the catch and that ends the inning the A’s strand one steep hill to climb it’s a nine nothing deficit and we’re back and the batter will be the shortstop jeremy Pñena Ferguson back to work the shorts stop takes a ball action in the pen down there jp Sears up and throwing swinging a foul back and that’s out of play that one finds the zone now he’s in a one-two hole swing and a high-fly ball ragged field rooker makes the catch and there’s one gone now batting catcher Diaz yiner Diaz up next for the Astros he’s already homerred here in this one at 96 that pitch is in for a strike that one ripped right center field high bounce over the fence for an automatic double well there’s something really nice about getting yourself an automatic double like that you get to stroll into second base without having to worry about a throw or getting your uniform dirty and now you’re just looking for the next hitter to kind of do the same thing maybe put one in the gap so you can jog home as well jose Altuve up to hit here and the first pitch misses for ball one one out and a runner at second and we’re in the top half of the sixth that one missed he hasn’t wanted to challenge him both of those pitches off the plate away don’t expect anything down the heart of the plate you may just have to be patient and take your walk here next offering is in for a strike and that one upstairs right through there for a strike swing and a miss struck him out that’s the second out just a mid90s challenge fast ball right there not much to it and I’m sure he’d love another swing at it because it was in a very hitable location those are the swings where you can sometimes start to question yourself as a hitter and say “How’d I miss that?” But you know what happens keratini stands in with two away as he takes a ball two outs and one in scoring position so two balls and no strikes swaying in a ball hammered left field that one carrying one hops off the wall should be extra bases the run comes in to score from second safe and that’s his third hit well when you fall behind in the count you’ve got to come into the zone and then guys have a better chance of hitting the ball hard like he did right there man in scoring position with two away jake Meyers up next for the Astros and that misses one and0 swinging a foul back that’s out of play comes up empty that’s strike two clearly was sitting on a fast ball right there and just ended up out in front of the slider hey you can’t fall i he locked him up and that’ll do it the inning is over one run a pair of hits no errors and one left on top of the order do up in the home half of the six it’s the Astros 10 and the A’s nothing back now for the bottom of the sixth and there’s a new pitcher on the mound Ryan Gusto and he’s got a nice lead to work with so he should come in throwing strikes attacking these hitters brian Gusto lawrence Butler digs in now lawrence Butler and fires in a fast ball at 95 the Astros have some action in their pen brian King the lefty looks to be getting himself ready fort the right-hander also getting loose swung on belted that one back there tattooed to Tater Town and gone and they’re on the scoreboard it’s 10-1 he absolutely feasts on right-handed pitching and devours that one for a homer and you can see that’s what he expects of himself at bat after at bat he’s that confident boo i wasn’t sure he hit that one as hard as he needed to to get it out of here but it had just enough behind it for the homer what an attempt at the wall though he really gave a terrific effort to try and bring that one back jacob Wilson up next for the A’s grips one to right and there’s one down man he smoked that fast ball he’s all over it it’s just frustrating when you can’t get it to fall maybe next time up he’ll find a hole now it’s the right fielder Brent Rooker part of the order coming through now and with one home run already in this inning they’re definitely looking to do some more damage ball one no strikes that one fouled off one down base is empty fouls one off two and two that’s a little bit low that’s foul off to the right side keeps the AB going here comes a 3-2 and he walked him speaking of walks did you see anything special during your walk into the ballpark today i know you like to take in all the surroundings i just love interacting with the people it’s just fun to connect i mean as I was headed up to the booth one guy shouted at me “Make sure to say hi to Kenny.” Twins have to play for the third time as he comes up empty there just a bit tardy there not sure if he had a hard time picking it up out of the hand or if he was sitting off speed next offering is in for a strike swing and a base hit they get it in quickly so first and second now one out now batting third base here’s the third baseman Max Muny highf fly ball out towards left field that’s going back back some more and forget it a threerun dinger it’s their second home run of the inning it’s 104 [Applause] [Music] [Applause] love to see a hitter aggressive on the first pitch of an at bat you watch him from the on deck circle so when you step in the box you’re ready to pull the trigger wherever it’s at really good job by the hitter total conviction on that swing manager out of the dugout now and he’ll make a move to dip into the Astros bullpen ryan Gusto done for the night we’ll be back in a minute with a new arm on the mound from Valdez takes over on the mound and they felt it was time to bring on a left-handed reliever from the pin with the lefty hitter coming up i think that’s a good move i know i never liked when opposing teams did that to me so one out nobody on and now the first baseman Nick Curts that one not close and that is ball one four runs already in the frame here in the bottom of the six on the corner for a strike and it’s one and one that one down the line and that’s a fair ball now here’s Luis Oas [Music] foul ball there curve in the dirt kicks away kurts into scoring position on the wild pitch and there goes the double play possibility well that’s part of the risk when you throw a breaking ball in the dirt even as good as catchers are these days at blocking pitches that one just got away enough and that takes the double play opportunity away for now and a pop off right side foul territory has room and he makes the catch now batting left fielder JJ Blade here’s the left fielder JJ Blade and first offering is fouled off so a foul ball makes it one and two man on second two down keeps the atbat going with a foul ball fouls it off still one and two two outs it’s in and out of his glove still manages a throw misplay doesn’t cost him inning over but two round tripers in this inning the long ball was working and this is now a 104 ball game major League Baseball is on the show and welcome back to the ballpark new inning getting started and stepping in for the Astros Cam Smith that one a little bit high and that’s ball one chopped to third come on tosses across to first and a quick out number one now batting left fielder Cooper Hmel digging in is the switch in outfielder Cooper Hmel slashed foul down the right side that’ll hook off into the seats so glad these ballparks have installed the netting to protect the fans keep things safer all around the league and that’s off the inside edge and the count one and two spoils a two strike pitch and he’ll see another base is empty one away here in the top half of inning number seven that one 95 to finish him off i’m not saying it it wasn’t a strike or you know it was a ball whatever but just the location with that velocity it’s hard enough just even if the velocity is not great but that velocity that location tip your cap two out space is empty here’s the second base mauricio Dubon one for three ball one there the 10 swag going to grounder foul first base side so a foul ball makes it one and two well two outs and a chance to put up a zero on the scoreboard here and that’s not something that’s come easy for this staff in this one the one two bows it back with two strikes swinging a ground ball to first and the Astros put down in order astros are down quietly they’re up comfortably though it’s 104 bottom of the seventh and now the center fielder Denzel Clark we talk about guys with good speed and definitely he has it but pushing the offense aside for just a second Chris it’s the defensive side that I think the speed factors in the most that one misses and it’s one and0 well he gets to balls that get by most people at that position just really impressive because there’s certain times a ball comes off the bat automatically that team that hit it thinks that they’ve got a base hit or they may have extra bases and he just takes it away swung on popped up on the infield gior hauls it in for the out and there’s one down oh that’s a frustrating end to the at bat for the hitter right there i mean that pitch was right down the middle i think he got a little too excited came out of his mechanics and instead of driving that ball somewhere he popped it up unfortunate for him and first off Rang is fouled off the Athletics with a lot of ground to make up here in the bottom of the seventh on the inside corner for called strike three a little bit of a questionable call on that fast ball right there it appeared to miss off the outside just a little bit according to the electronic strike zone but that’s the type of location where you kind of have to understand that it’s close enough to where you don’t want to put the fate of your bat in the hands of the umpire he did and he got burned jacob Wilson up next for the A’s and the first pitch misses for ball one two down nobody on foul ball that’s off the inside corner two and one i can’t play around with him here it’s a six-run lead at this point got to attack hitters even if you give up a solo shot liner and that should be extra bases makes the turn and heads for second and they hold him at second maybe this is going to be the moment they start the comeback man those are the types of hits where you don’t feel any vibration in your hands whatsoever such a good feeling nice job of driving that pitch the other way on a line you know hitters they take so many reps in the cages working on going to the opposite field and it doesn’t always translate into the game but right there it did and he did it perfectly and now the right fielder Brent Rooker he swings and fouls one off that missed by a lot one and two to count wilson stands at second with two gone squirts away a little bit comes up empty as he chases that one in the dirt got him inning over on the strikeout no advance good job behind the dish this one pretty well decided at this point we look ahead to inning number eight it’s the Astros 10 and the Athletics four now pitching for the welcome back and a new arm on the mound to start the eighth number 49 i think it’s got to be a little tough coming in out of the pin when your guys are trailing so big on the scoreboard just doesn’t have the same intensity to it but he’s got to find a way because these batters count the same for his stats obviously regardless of the score swinging a foul straight back ripped but it curls foul baby let’s go and foul ball fast ball and he gets out of the way and there’s a fly ball deep right field and that one hops the wall and that’s a leadoff double everything came together for him got a fast ball middle of the plate jumped all over it absolutely smoked that ball so back to the top of the order so next up for Houston Jeremy Pñena hit in the air right field rooker he’s there he’s got it runner tags at second and the throws offline safe at third up next for the Astros catcher Yer Diaz now the number two hitter Yiner Diaz he’s already homerred in this game come on Athletics and that’s in for a strike go and one movement in the bullpen jp Sears the left-hander up and throwing and that one is downstairs and it’s one and one and that is out of play let’s go and that’s way high ball two in this situation he’s trying to get you to pop something up or jam you that’s a really good take knowing you got an opportunity to drive in a run here swing and a ball popped in the air base hit and a run in to score up next for the Astros the designated so now the DH spot Jose Altuve and that clips the inside corner the Stros up big in this one and we’re in the top of the eighth that one hammered left field that’s back there get down get down makes the catch up against the wall oh those can be pretty fun as an outfielder got to put it into his highest gear and go a long way to track that one down nothing better than that you feel like a wide receiver playing football and next will be the cleanup hitter Victor Keratini and that’s downstairs ball one that one pushed to the left and fouled well they gave up on that pitch early and it ended up staying in the zone i’m sure he’s kicking himself and would like that pitch again that one ripped out of here a two-run homer his fourth home run of the season it’s 134 singing that’s his 50th career homer 50 might not sound like a huge number but it’s a nice little milestone that a lot of guys don’t get to for a pitcher the odds are in your favor if you keep that breaking ball down that time he got punished for it hitter just did a really good job of staying within himself and getting the barrel to the baseball manager out of the dugout now and he will make a move to dip into the A’s bullpen number 49 out of the game and as he heads for the dugout we’ll take a quick break new arm on the mound when we get back so a new pitcher on the mound for the A’s JP Sears definitely a guy that pounds the strike zone makes hitters earn their way on base and rarely gets in trouble because of free passes so two down and next to hit for Houston Jake Meyers fast in for a strike it’s 0 and one two outs close one doesn’t get the call one and one fast ball for a strike so far all we’ve seen in this at bat are fast balls look for him to slow it down right here ahead in the count on a line base hit and that keeps the inning alive now batting number 11 Cam Smith up next for the Astros here we go first pitch misses meyers the runner at first with two gone swings through that swings through it and that’s a strike out but they strike for three in the inning two on this two-run home run home half of inning number eight straight ahead back after this on the show bottom of the eighth here’s the catcher austin wins austin wins and first offering is fouled off fouled off left side baby let’s go and that skips in the dirt and that’s in the dirt swings and misses that K is his third of the game well he just had no answer for that hard inside fast ball right there just blew it by him and not every pitcher likes working inside especially with two strikes they don’t want to hit a batter and waste an opportunity to put him away but if you can locate that fast ball just like he did most hitters aren’t looking for it and it becomes very difficult to get a piece of Yeah that’s fouled off that misses the zone and the count even one and one and there’s a ball first pitch strike from the pitcher but then no panic at all by the hitter very patient showing good discipline now he’s in the driver’s seat with a 3-1 count that’s ball four tried another sinker but couldn’t find his own maybe a little loss of focus on the mound right there pretty much gifted him first base with a quick free pass next up for the A’s Nick Curts swang and a miss on the ground to second might be two glove flip for one to first not in time great effort there luis Urias up next for the A’s in the dirt go the lefty the one sliced hard but fouled let’s go and that one ripped into right smith makes the grab and that will end the inning no runs no base hits no errors and a runner left ninth inning coming up astros lead this one 13-4 and we’re back now it’s the switch hitting outfielder Cooper Hmel sears back to work right through there for a strike there it was oh here it is hit it he gets a take gets ahead in the count now the one and a foul ball the O2 fouled off and they’ll do it again got him and a strike out for the first out here in the ninth toughest pitch to hit fast ball on the outer black man sometimes you just got to tip your cap and stepping in for the Astros Mauricio Dubon that one misses ball one check swing he went too far and it’s a strike one more and that one misses up and in and a count two and one next offering is fouled back one down base is empty that one is inside ball four and I mean oh so close looked like a questionable call in that spot he even seemed a little surprised it went his way at the plate but as a hitter you’ll take that all day gor in the box now no balls in a strike that one finds the zone that’s strike two got him looking and now two gone well just excellent location on that inside fast ball really locked him up and as a hitter it’s not typically what you’re looking for you’re trying to protect away and then in so you can be a little bit tardy with two strikes hard to tell if he was fooled or if he thought it would be called a ball but either way that’s a really nice pitch jeremy Pñena the next to hit and a first pitch fastball is in for a strike back up the middle and a base hit throw stops the lead runner at second two on and two out yer and now it’s going to be Yiner Diaz and it may be a long shot but a triple here will give him the cycle headed towards the corner and a foul ball and that is downstairs and that is ball one up the middle wilson gets it to first and that is that no runs a hit two left 891 do up in the bottom of inning number nine houston leads this one 134 and welcome back to the ballpark digging in JJ Blade jj Blade first pitch doesn’t find the zone and another ball back to back breaking pitches away you get the feeling as a hitter that the pitcher is afraid of you that he doesn’t want to challenge you so I think the confidence level is raised right here this ball’s chopped on the ground one out bottom of the ninth now batting center fielder Denzel Clark denzel Clark up next for the A’s 0 for three in this one you talk about elite defensive players especially in the middle of the diamond and this guy is at the top of the list on the ground right side duban to first and a couple of quick outs now batting designated hitter Lawrence Butler so it’s their last chance in this one lawrence Butler getting ready to hit that one missed hit hard on the ground short go go go throw to first ball game and the Astros take this one in a blowout that’s how you check a box to start your career boo first MLB winning your first MLB start congratulations to him on a major milestone 134 is your final for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show i’m John Shami saying so long
