People’s Champ Mr travis Rogers he’ll be back later this week this week we’re doing at minimum three shows for the week and in June that’s what you should expect but also we’re going to throw in some interviews el got a lot of stuff on the way some actual players and and things like that so stay tuned but today’s episode we’re talking OTAAS what you need to know from OTAAS as the Rams approach mini camp and some cap casualties the Rams waved a player we’ll talk about that but first today’s episode of Locked on Rams brought to you by Game Time download the Game Time app crane account use code locked on NFL for $20 off your first purchase okay so let’s get right into the news from Friday and that is that the Rams waved quarterback Darion Kendrick and it was a move that was cap space motivated they cut down on their roster as they enter mini camp and by waving Kendrick that saved him a pretty good amount of money it saves him 3.4 4 million in cap room this year that’ll bring their spending up to about 22 million so that’s how much they have available if they want to make some moves and move some things around of course you got to pay people as well but that is a pretty nice chunk for a player that you didn’t expect to get a ton from this season he did start 18 games with the Rams from 2022 to 2023 he was this former sixth round pick he made appearances in 32 games before he tore that ACL last summer so I think any hope that he had to get an opportunity to carve out a role for this team it really came close to ending when he tore that ACL and it’s unfortunate cuz injuries are terrible and you hate that that’s the reason why but he was never able to rebound for that bill some off the- field stuff that maybe good or bad i mean it definitely doesn’t help with this organization that doesn’t like a lot of off-field distractions but he missed the entire 2024 season and it was always going to be an uphill climb for him to make this team and have any significant role but we’ll see what happens with him i mean he does have some flashes he has one interception his career has 14 total pass breakups he’s made 92 tackles three of those were TFLs and he’s now on the waiver wire and he can be claimed by any team in the National Football League if he does go unclaimed he’ll enter free agency so that’s where they’re at with the quarterback spot is they’re looking to subtract before they possibly add and we’ll talk a little more about that later but before we do what are some other potential cap casualties that the Rams could have as they enter mini camp well first one we’ll talk about is tight end Colby Parkinson so this one on the surface it appears to be the obvious one considering the commitment they made to him last season 22.5 million uh was the contract but when you look at the guarantees kind of what they would save he just wasn’t the backup that they hoped he would be he wasn’t the red zone threat that they hoped he would be and he was supposed to come and fill in while Tyler Higgby was going to miss most of the season so he did not make the most of those opportunities was not that red zone threat did not flash a lot of potential if the Rams were to move off of him that would save them 5.25 million in salary cap and it would add 4.8 million in dead money so I think it kind of depends on what they feel like they have in Terren Ferguson because all of the momentum during OTAAS was that he checked off all the boxes he was impressing the coaches his teammate Shawn McVey most importantly and he’s a guy that they felt strongly about to the point where there was some talk that they would have taken him at 26 and they were able to trade out of the first round pick up another first round pick after they made that deal with the Falcons who end up taking Pierce and they dropped down to the second round and picked that 46 and were still able to get their guy so the fact that they had a first round grade on him lets you know that they feel like he can have an impact this season and you have Tyler Higgby this could be his last year so Kobe Parkinson is one that they could make i mean I think you look at this team up and down the roster he’s someone that really had a golden opportunity to take advantage of last season he just didn’t do that now couple more wide receiver Quintes Cifus he’s someone that I think is a very obvious one too he was a a seventh round he’s someone that uh the Rams have kind of had in the fold if they released him it would save them 1.1 million in salary cap and I think the writing on the wall there’s the writing on the wall to to move off of him because of Konata Mumfield and how much they like him as a seventh round pick so if they move off of him he takes his role i mean Cphus hasn’t had a regular season appearance hasn’t played one snap since 2022 so that’s another one that hey 1.1 million in the grand scheme of things doesn’t seem like a lot but if you’re not going to use a player and you think there’s another player that can develop and you can use that roster spot and you see him as a a better lottery ticket essentially then that’s a route they could go another guy defensive tackle Desawan Johnson and the Rams have depth now and I think that’s kind of what spells the end for Johnson is you added Ty Hamilton in 2025 out of Ohio State so you got depth and you have other guys that can that can take advantage of of what could be in front of them there and Johnson is someone that they felt like okay there’s something interesting with him right mr irelevant seventh round pick in 2023 he played just 222 snaps in two seasons has three sacks in his career and 21 combined tackles so he’s another guy that would save the Rams around $1 million in salary cap so those two guys I could see Kobe Parkinson I think it depends largely on how they view Higgby as a veteran and Ferguson as a rookie one guy that is at the end of his career with more yesterdays than tomorrows and one guy at the beginning of his career with more tomorrows than yesterdays so you kind of finding the bridge between that and how that impacts your roster i think is the big key they already did Darion Kendrick and this interesting just because you don’t have stars as cornerbacks and we know that there’s been a lot of rumors about Jaylen Ramsay and now with Jaier Alexander as a possibility i mean he it definitely it definitely kind of shows you what this Rams team is about from a roster construction standpoint they’re trying to add when they can and if they don’t think that you’re going to be a part of their future they’re not just going to keep you on the roster so just taking a look at where the Rams are at as far as their salary cap i mean you’re 23 million and when you look at what you need to do you still have to pay players on rookie deals and then also they’re still in talks with Ky Williams about a potential extension so don’t forget that as well that’s another thing that you have to take under consideration is that it’s not always about just looking outside for talent it’s about keeping your talent on your team right so I think that these moves make sense i we’ll see with any other dominoes fall the Rams are a team that is really smart about doing things on the margins and that’s kind of what they do i mean if you look at right now as far as their UDFA class there’s only three teams in the NFL that have guaranteed less money than the Rams to their UDFAs right now the Rams to their UDFA class they’ve guaranteed 192,000 to 18 players willie Lamkin has the biggest guarantee at 30,000 so only the Ravens Chargers and Steelers have guaranteed less money so this is a team that’s really smart when it comes to using their money wisely and if they need to spend big at a certain spot they will and if they can kind of cut cost in one area and use those resources to help another one they’ll certainly do that it’s all about kind of focusing on those premium positions that is just what the Rams tend to do when they’re faced with this so that’s where they’re at as far as the cuts go as far as where they are from a salary cap standpoint and look I think for a team that isn’t a team that isn’t too worried about kind of making a massive massive splash outside of potentially Jan Ramsey the fact that you’re contending with this many rookies this is definitely a a costconcious franchise that understands how to win big and to do it for an extended period of time because a lot of teams it’s okay we go all in and then it’s a down to the studs rebuild and they skip the part where they win the Super Bowl like the Rams did this Rams team has been able to draft well spend somewhat wisely but then also kind of I mean you lose when you the Jonah Jackson move Kobe Parkinson some free agent whiffs there’s no doubt about it but for the most part they’re going to be in a good spot but coming up next we’ve got seven big a thing about your Los Angeles Rams and when they do win the Super Bowl next season it’s going to feel more rewarding because you’re part of that journey from day one but okay here in our second segment we’re going to talk about some of these takeaways from Rams OTAAS as they enter mini camp the first one I alluded to in the first segment the Rams and Kairen Williams are still in negotiation talks about a potential extension and Kairen’s camp the Rams camp they made no secret about it that they want to continue on less need said they want to have a partnership kairen Williams wants to stay here and the best part about this is this is amicable right kairen hasn’t missed any practices at all whatsoever this is not a hold out situation and by every indication that’s going to continue he’s going to be a full participant he’s not waiting to get a new deal before doing so and Shawn McVey has said as much he’s said as much and they’re going to be together in Maui getting ready for this season mcvey said he’s been here he’s been leading he’s been doing exactly what Kairen does and so he’s been pleased we’ll see if there’s an opportunity to be able to land that plane so just the fact that they’ve been so out in the open about it and we’ve done deep dives on his contract and we’ll probably do another one at some point this week he wants to get compensated like a top 10 running back and the numbers bear it out as far as his overall production and it just feels like he checks off the intangible boxes too that help you get across the finish line to get a deal done as far as leadership toughness being a great blocker for Matthew Stafford having the ability to navigate this duo scheme that they’ve been running where it’s more physical it’s not a guy that’s going to break off Saquon Barkley 80 90 yard runs but for the Rams for what they ask him to do he does it at an elite level and they view him as someone that’s crucial to their run for the next couple of seasons they know what they have in Kairen shawn has always liked him and I fully expect them to continue on i mean if he has to play out his rookie year deal and he finds something in the offseason then maybe but by the tone of both of them Kairen and Shawn McVey less need it feels like there’s a better chance that they get a deal done before the season starts and they kind of lock him up so that definitely is from a contract standpoint and a roster standpoint kind of the biggest storyline during OTAAS and then next big takeaway is one of the big wild cards is Emanuel Forbes what happens with Emanuel Forbes the Rams claimed him so they committed to him financially does he realize that potential well I think the first step in him realizing that potential and being an every down type of quarterback that a first round pick should be when he was that from the Commanders is his size has always been a question and this off season he’s bulked up quite a bit shawn McVey said that he is quote bulking up he said he’s got great movement he’s got a really good concept trigger you can see the ball production where he’s doing things that had never been done before at the collegiate level in terms of being able to get your hands on the ball and then go score i’ve really been pleased with him there’s been a lot of positive guys that have really stood out or really kind of taken their game to another level i’m looking forward to seeing once we put on the pads on and getting into some of the preseason games let’s continue to apply that but he’s been really pleased with Emanuel and he’s done a great job so that definitely is big news i mean I really think it is just because the simple fact that this was a project and first part of that project the first phase was the first phase of that was can you get him to put on some muscle to put on some weight and his playing weight for so many years was around 166 and just from a tackling standpoint an ability to stay healthy and go through the rigors and the physicality of a full NFL season you just needed more from that and after they made the deal for him a lot of people were saying “Oh this is the cornerback version of 22 Atwell.” And they were saying that he has got a slight frame look I mean this is a guy just a couple years from being the 16th overall pick a couple years removed from being the 16th overall pick and there’s a reason why he was selected that high because of the talent level because of his ability to get pick sixes and having a nose for the football so it remains to be seen does he continue to add weight how does he play with that added weight and can he carve out a role for this team because right now the Rams have not landed that big splashy quarterback that we’ve been talking about since the draft and Forbes is someone that has high ceiling and that’s what makes a guy like him so intriguing a lot of guys they have their ceiling i mean Kobe Durant has his ceiling forbes though has extremely high ceiling it’s just a matter of putting him in spots to optimize him and I think changing his body also changes his mindset too so very curious to see what comes with Forbes moving forward i’m very excited about that other big takeaways speaking of young players on this team Braden Fisk’s knee is at 100% he’s good to go as far as that is what he’s saying and then there wasn’t a ton of concern about him but it was good to hear from himself the 2025 season is a think going to be a massive one for him to take the next big leap because all the talk was about Jared Verse and rightfully so because he went defensive rookie of the year but Fisk was a major part of this team as a rookie they traded up to get him they gave a lot to get him and he proved them right in year one and he said that he’s ahead of schedule in his rehab he’s already a full go in practice he doesn’t have any limitations has no ill effects from the surgery so I think he’s going to have a big year i really really do i’m extremely high on Brain Fisk he’s a beast down there and the fact that he underwent that minor procedure you always just want to hear it from them hey we’re good to go and clearly he is so Braden Fisk he’s ready to roll for 2025 and he’s a guy that I fully expect to make a statement this season i really really do i think it’s going to be him and Jared Vers as the future of this defense but coming up next anything on Jaylen Ramsey that’s coming up next on Locked on Rams and welcome back to Locked On Rams thank you for making Locked on Rams your first listen every single weekday free and available wherever your podcast locked on Rams part of Locked On Podcast Network your team every day okay so we’re going to list out one of the three four five things to look for heading into mini camp heading into the season is hey right at the top would be what’s going on with Jaylen Ramsay and I know lots of Jaylen Ramsey talk i know this has been locked on Ramsay for over a month at this point but we kind of cooled off on it because my number one goal and what I live by when it comes to doing this show is if there’s no new information I’m not just going to shove Jaylen Ramsay down your throats to talk about things that I haven’t talked about right i’m not one of those guys i don’t do that i only give you new information whether it be an update from an NFL insider from Shawn McVey from Lesne well I mean if you’re watching this show as a means to get caught up on what happened during OTAAS and you’re wondering what happened with Jaylen Ramsay because the talk was that after June 1st it would increase the likelihood that the Rams would trade for him well the latest is McVey did provide an update on it and he said quote about the Jaylen Ramsay trade there haven’t been a lot of those discussions and that their interest he didn’t say this but the kind of the tone of it was maybe their interest has cooled off now is that because they are playing a leverage game with them you’re in negotiations always possible mcvey did say that he likes his cornerbacks that he has so that’s definitely another thing to consider as well the Rams probably saying “Hey we’re not as desperate for Jan Ramsey as you think we are.” But the truth is with Ramsay until he gets traded to another team the Rams are always going to be a team that is going to be talked about and they’re going to be linked to because of the history because he won a Super Bowl with this team because of the fact that Shawn McVey and Lesne have both made it very clear this off season that they were interested in him and I think it comes down to do you want to absorb that 20 million do you think you’re going to get a deal done past this year with him the future of him the role I mean is he someone that goes to safety he’s in the corner star role kind of what do you envision for him because the truth is allp pro Jaylen Ramsay is probably not walking through that door but a quarterback that’s better than what you currently have probably is and the decision for the Rams is is it worth to pay the premium price even though they can get out of it after one year and it’s a similar to the Devonte Adams deal hey you don’t need to commit long term you can kind of get out of one year the way the contract structured but then would you risk not having a happy Jayen Ramsey is another thing to consider as well so I do think that they’re still kicking the tires a little bit on it but I think from a compensation standpoint you’re not looking at a top three pick as far as the rounds go i mean you’re looking at a late pick in the draft and then it’s ma mainly about absorbing the contract so that is the latest is that Shawn McVey said that they quote haven’t had a lot of those discussions so we’ll see those discussions pick up and we’ll also see if the Rams go a different direction i think that even though Shawn McVey says he’s happy with their corners and even though they had success last year with a lot of these same guys that to get over the top to put them in that same tier with the Bills and the Eagles and the Chiefs and the upper echelon of teams in this league that quarterback is the position that you have to address if you want to just upgrade from a talent level so that is definitely definitely something to look for in the remainder of this of this off season now next big thing you need to know i mean honestly it’s a feel-good story and yes hope springs eternal during OTAAS in mini camp and everyone is feeling good they’re in the best shape of their lives and everyone’s just happy well sure there’s a little bit of that but I also think that there’s a little bit of hey Devonte Adams is on the best team that he can be on at this stage of his career and the big takeaway is that Taye is happy as a Ram and he’s already having a very positive impact on his teammates the organization and his coaches and Devonte Adams and Matthew Stafford have continued to build that chemistry and when you had a Matthew Stafford on a pitch count a couple years ago dealing with the elbow stuff he wasn’t able to throw you saw what happened you saw what happened a couple years ago and how that how that how that really derailed that team and yes Allen Robinson is now going to be in Devonte Adams’s tier as a receiver but Stafford not being able to have some chemistry and work with him during this stage of the offseason I think really made what was already probably going to be a bad situation that much worse and they have had a lot of reps together Taye and Stafford and I think they just really like working together and I think they’re both at a part of their career where yeah I mean you’re you’re already at the stage where you’ve accomplished a lot i think you look at Devonte Adams established himself as one of the best receivers of his generation hasn’t won a Super Bowl and then you look at Matthew Stafford wants to win another Super Bowl i think he’s already cemented a Hall of Fame career but he knows that he wants another one and he wants to win that gold jacket and he still thinks he can help teams and compete at a high level so he’s going to continue to do so shawn McVey said about Devonte Adams the way he sees the game is pretty impressive he sees the game through a quarterback’s lens and he’s got so many experiences and really understands it from an all 22 perspective a lot of it is asking questions about things that maybe I’ve seen over the course of his career or how do I apply it or how is it similar to maybe things I’ve seen him do but he loves football there’s a consistent passion there’s a real understanding of how it all kind of fits together the spacing the timing the rhythm we talk about other stuff outside of football but the way that his mind works I really have enjoyed being able to learn from him as well so that’s Shawn McVey loving up on a guy that is already a main man in this league in Devonte Adams and yeah I mean just want to go to TCB man we go to Taco Bell with him man have a crunch wrap supreme have a Mexican pizza have a chalupa because he loves Taco Bell and I don’t know about you guys i know are you Let me know down below are you guys a Dell Taco or a Taco Bell type person or you just don’t like both of them because I’ve had a lot of people say Dell Taco is better than Taco Bell me personally I’m always going to be a TCB guy i respect Del Taco the fries are really good and I don’t go that often but I respect it but let me know very curious to see what you have to say but the other thing too about Devonte Adams is he’s had a big impact on Puka and Puka Nakua is someone that’s always looking to get better cooper Cup deserves a lot of credit for taking his game to another level well I think Dvonte Adams can help him too and I think that Cooper Cup probably gave him the knowledge that he needed and imparted all that wisdom and those techniques and I see Cup as a future coach if he wants to be that but Puka could be ready for another voice and Devonte Adams could be that other voice because Adams has been great for so long that he’s seen so many different defensive coverages he’s seen so many defenders use different techniques to try to stop him and that’s what happens when you get really good in this league it’s not oh I’m slower or my hands are worse or I’m not getting out of my routes it’s no there’s more attention focused on you and you become a bigger part of the game plan so as Puka has had more success in this league he’s also been a target more and when there’s defensive scheming and game planning it’s about how do I stop Puka Akua and getting those little tricks those little nuances how to get just a nanoc a fraction of a second to put yourself in a better position to make a play and be your defender that’s only going to help Puka Nua because we’ve seen Devont Adams do that a lot in his career and the truth is Puka is already so good in just a couple of seasons that there’s not a ton of receivers I think you would see out there that say “Oh like I’m going to respect you like a a goat a legend.” Pukanakua definitely respects Devonte Adams because of everything he’s accomplished in this league so got to give him a ton of credit for that i just think having Devonte Adams there is that is that is big and that’s also been a takeaway is that I think that Puganua has not peaked and I still think that he hasn’t reached his ceiling as a player and one of the big takeaways is an emphasis on his route running i mean the guy has big feet 14-inch feet and just being crisp and just getting better from that standpoint is going to help him and Michael Laflur has talked about this how Puka is in great shape that the route running is better he said that his cutting is a little bit better than he was a year ago i just think he’s just fine-tuned some things i think if we watched his routes on air from a year ago I think he’s cutting a little bit better than he was a year ago i think he’s breaking down a little bit better he’s always been an incredible receiver with incredible hands but that’s an elite skill set of his on top of the toughness and his physicality but I think he’s even more confident so the confidence is always going to come when you have success but the hands are there the toughness is there the big playability is there but I think the crisper route running is going to lead to more opportunities to make big plays and it’s great to see him emphasizing that this offseason always trying to get better but those are my big takeaways from Rams OTAAS and we’ll get into mini camp everything you need to know at some point this week see if we get some moves we’ll talk some guys you want to talk about drop some questions down below for our mailbag episode that we’re going to start throwing in there and have a great rest of your day my name is Doug McCain you can follow me on X and Instagram at dmac_la and Vamos Rams
Del taco
Double del is one of my top 5 fast food burger
Del Taco bro. You can't get a better burger at a Mexican restaurant. I don't hear Del Taco toilet jokes
Del taco burgers are underrated fs
Bun taco and double del 😊
Love the show, this is the time of year where there’s not much to talk about. I miss hearing your fast pace talking opposed to the slow season drag out. That time of year keep up the good work!
Bakers
Need time stamps on these videos.
Del Taco is way better than Taco Bell. I stopped eating Del Taco 5 years ago.
Rams have all the leverage with Williams, they should get the deal they want
Go Rams
Seldom seen out again
Am I wrong wanting to see Tutu n Forbes battle on a deep route???
Del Taco uses real cheese while Taco Bell uses 'fake' chese. I prefer Del Taco (Which bought out Naugles which was my favorite).
Parkinson ✌️
Del Taco I moved to the Tampa Bay area. We have Taco Bell but not Del Taco. I spent most of my 70 years in Rialto. We loved going to Del Taco on my high school breaks. It's now a check cashing place. There is one about 2 hours away and if I ever get there I am going to order 2 dozen Green Burritos. I like their refried beans better than all the others. But I miss Bakers the most and forget In n Out. I never liked them but they sure do talk about them out here. BTW google Fast Food history of San Bernardino. They are are all connected from San Bernardino except for In n Out. It was at the Mitla Café where we had my grandfather's retirement party and where Glen Bell got recipes from the cooks. Der Wienerschnitzel…. Pup and Taco… McDonalds
Ohtani making his pitching debut tonight and also the DH. We truly are spoiled as Rams and Dodger fans
oh man . . . both Taco Bell and Del Taco suck all kinds of ass . . .
wanna franchise taco, try Taconazao . . . maybe the one in El Monte . . .
otherwise, the taco truck on Olympic and Sepulveda . . . or, any decent taco truck in Los Angeles . . .
Taco bell is o.k. it was better before but now I gotta say it's all about the Dell… Burgers are bomb and it's all about the classic chicken burrito with sour cream. Dell Yeah!
La Paloma is a must if there's one close to you. A shredded beef burrito will definitely fill you up along with the rest of their menu. They don't mess around with the ingredients!
Does this mean DK is uninvited from Hawaii? If so, ouch.
Jalen should play safety like weddle did 😤 if we get him back
Let’s gooooo Rams
Del Taco 4 days a week my guy 🌮
@Rene Garcia:I am a SSL owner and am very disappointed in the Rams organization silence on our Los Angeles community being attacked and scapegoated. You are either with us or against. You cannot plead the 5th! Your silence is complicit. We will boycott you. We shouldn't have to threaten your business but consider this your only chance.
Taco Bell !
If we get Jalen Ramsey, I feel like a Super Bowl goes from possible to likely (barring injury, of course).
Respect your opinion and JBs….we're not KEEPING Willie Lampkin on the 53 are we?😮
does anyone know why that bum is "the peoples champ?"
