Former journeyman NBA player Popeye Jones was a healthy scratch more often than not in his 11-year career, bouncing from Dallas to Toronto, to Boston, to Denver, to Washington, back to Dallas, and finally to Golden State. However, in 2023, as an assistant coach for the Denver Nuggets, he won an NBA championship. Now, two years later, his son Seth wins his first Stanley Cup after half a season with the Florida Panthers.
Seth and his brother Caleb were born in Arlington, Texas, when Popeye was with the Dallas Mavericks, and learned to play hockey in Colorado when their father rode the pine for a season with the Nuggets. Then-Avalanche-captain Joe Sakic’s advice to the boys was to master the ability to skate as a prerequisite to playing. 26 years later, Seth, now a mid-career professional in the NHL, gets to lift the Stanley Cup.

It’s very heartwarming to see.
Please, I would love to see the cup and the O’Brien together.
Jones was #3 in plus/minus these playoffs. Not bad.
