[WY Network by Dwyane Wade] Wade: “A lot of people don’t know that, in that Finals, the last Finals that they won, Kobe didn’t play well. Kobe didn’t shoot the ball well; actually, everybody thought Pau Gasol should have been MVP. That’s how well Pau was playing, and Kobe was playing awful.”

  1. If they lose that game 7, the Kobe slander would’ve been wild. Shaq would’ve made another diss record.

  2. 29,5/6,8/4,2 through the first 6 finals games doesn’t sound like he was playing awful. Wade was even at game 5 I think it was with his son when Kobe went off at the start of the second half.

  3. Was awful for 1 game, not the whole series, wtf is this revisionist history

  4. He’s right. This goes more towards body language and the mentality that’s needed on the floor. Some valuable advice that can be taken at all levels. Missing shots shouldn’t affect your approach to the game. It doesn’t affect your ability to get back and defend, to rebound, to keep attacking with the same purpose. It was one of Kobe’s greatest strengths. He moves on to the next shot, the next play, the next game, etc.. regardless of what happened beforehand

As far as that finals? Kobe may have been shooting the ball poorly (the series was an absolute grind for multiple players) but he did the other things that were needed to win the series in game 7. That game was won on the boards (with a little help from Meta) and Kobe stepped up immensely in that area. They knew the Celtics were thin with Perkins out and Rasheed not in shape to play big minutes. Everyone just attacked the boards knowing that would be the difference. Kobe led the way. This coming from a Celtics fan

  5. Metta quite literally was the reason they won that game. We all watched the game Wade. LOL at “a lot of people”

  6. People say this as if Pau didnt shoot 6-16 himself in game 7. The only player who shot above 40% was Fish. That last game was the culmination of 3 straight finals ending on a game 7.

  7. Everyone who says this is strictly talking about game 7. Through 5 games the discussion was should Kobe win mvp even if they lose the series. That’s when the lakers were down 3-2. Kobe had 26 11 and 3 with 4 steals in game 6 and pau had 17 13 and 9 with 3 blocks so nothing really changed.
Game 7 Kobe shot terribly still had 15 rebounds for a guard including 4 offensive rebounds. He also had 10 points in the 4th. Pau was great in game 7 but he still shot 6/16 which isn’t great for a big.

This narrative pau should’ve been mvp of the series is silly and has always been silly imo.

  8. it’s true but kobe did turn it up in the 4th quarter. but a bad shooting night in general.

  9. What the fuck is this revisionist history. Kobe was the best player on the floor by an absurd margin for 6 games

  10. That game 7 was the worst Kobe shooting game. What Dwayne Wade didn’t say was that Kobe stopped shooting and starting passing, rebounding, and playing defense. He was all over the place, kept feeding Pau and then made some clutch shots at the end to finish it.

The pass to Artest to win the game is written in Laker history.

  11. I watched that series is a nail bitter series even Kobe didn’t have a good series he still rebound and defend rondo who btw was the player of the boston at that time

  12. Kobe averaged 29 ppg in a series where the lakers averaged 91 ppg. That’d be like Shai averaging 36.3 points in this series

  13. Lakers won in 2010 because Pau stopped being afraid of Garnett and outplayed him

  14. Mfs just be talking to fill air on the podcast. Message to all former players: Let it go, move on. Find life after ball, because youre not that interesting to listen to.

  15. I mean yeah cause there was not as much internet presence and the media glazed him.

  16. Stop revising ish , kobe was the best player in the finals , game 7 was all about defense . I think ray allen had a terrible game made 1 fg . Everyone was inefficient .

Pau gasol was never up for discussion for finals mvp , it was more of a discussion the following year with wade and lebron if the heat won.

  17. There’s a Finals happening right now. Why tf does anyone care about a retired player’s throwaway comment about a dead guy. This is why the NBA is so lame people having post-draft, offseason-tier conversations during the Finals lol

  18. Didn’t Kobe play with a broken finger? He didn’t even play poorly. Just game 7 was an eye sore.

  19. ..and then the Heat choked the following year. And now DWade has a daughter.

  20. Kobe had a poor shooting game 7. He didn’t have a bad finals. He averaged 29/8/4 lol. Pau averaged 19/12/4.

  21. Kobe had a broken finger on his shooting hand that made him change his jumpshot, and a right knee that was BONE ON BONE thanks go getting it drained all during the 2010 playoffs. And LA STILL WON. You ppl on reddit know jack shit about kobe.

  22. Wade’s point and what people are discussing in this thread are polar opposite things. There might be something to this redditors unable to read and/or non functional ASD thing.
