once again time for Arizona Diamondback baseball and this afternoon the defects look to fend off the three-game series sweep at the hands of the host the Toronto Blue Jays good afternoon everybody welcome inside the radio booth my name is Chris Gerajiola i’m joined by our analyst former Diamondback pitcher Josh Colementor also joined by our producer engineer Leo Gil Martin and Kellen Schaver our technical director back in studio coley the injuries keep piling up for the Diamondbacks the big story going into this one Corbin Carroll not in the starting lineup gabby Mareno placed on the 10day injured list retroactive to June 16th the Ramis Garcia is back and this group is just going to have to band together if they want to avoid being swept for the second consecutive time in the last three years coming out here to Roger Center against the Blue Jays you made a great point they sweeping getting swept almost sweeping it’s been a weird two weeks for the Dbacks both on the road and at home and again find themselves up against it here they need to play a complete game like what we saw the Blue Jays do against them yesterday when the pitching is there the Deepexs have a great shot to win even though they are thin when it comes to depth and they are going to send Ryan Nelson to the mound on the year nelson again he’s been very good for the Diamondbacks this will be his sixth start of the year 4.14 RA but we know he’s capable of much better than that and he trended in the right direction he had a rough one on the road he pitched a little better at home and he’s still settling into the rotation so now he should be close to 90 pitches or more he’s had now three weeks to work on his repertoire to work on the bullpen to have a starter mentality going in so he should start settling into that very nicely hard to believe this is already year 13 for Kevin Gosman his fourth with the Blue Jays vback fans probably remember him for that two-year stint in which he was throwing the ball supremely well with the San Francisco Giants but the book is out on him going to land strikes got a good kind of a change up splitter combination as well if he’s landing those pitches Debbacks they’re going to have to be super disciplined to try and only swing at the stuff in the zone today especially lay off the off speed it’s a split finger if you see it down it’s going to be low don’t go at that you want to hit the fast ball he’s given up eight home runs on that pitch so that’s been a little bit of a problem for him this is a good fast hitting team zone up the fastball don’t expand the zone and they could put up some runs we will see if the Diamondbacks can do that here in the finale this afternoon before they get ready for a three-game series against the all of a sudden surging Colorado Rockies we’re going to take a break though when we come back we’ll get you the starting lineups and then it is time for first pitch it’s the Dbacks and the Blue Jays and the base Catel Marte batting third at first base Paven Smith and batting fourth designated hitter Josh Naylor auhaneo Suarez is at third base he will bat fifth florida Korea Bill Jr in left field will bat sixth randall Britick getting the start in right field bat seventh alec Thomas is in center field he will bat eight and Jose Herrera the catcher rounds out the starting nine against the Dbacks for Domo Marte Smith Naylor Suarez Guriel Richic Thomas and Herrera and on the mound for the Diamondbacks as we mentioned earlier it is 27y old right-hander Ryan Nelson Nelson making his sixth start of the year his 16th appearance this season 3 and2 record a 4.14 erra he has struck out 41 while walking only team now for the Toronto Blue Jays they won each of the first two games of this series and they’re now seven over 500 at 40 wins and 33 losses leading off shortstop Bo Bette batting second in right field Addison Barger batting third at first base Vladimir Guerrero Jr and batting fourth catcher Alejandro Kirk batting fifth the DH George Springer batting sixth at second base Andres Jimenez batting seventh the third base Ernie Clement batting eight in left field Will Robertson and rounding out the starting nine in center field Jonathan Claus again for the Blue Jays you’ve got Bette Barger Guerrero Kirk Springer Jimenez Clement Robertson and Claus and leading the team out of the dugout for the Blue Jays Kohi veteran right-hander Kevin Gosman a lot of years as you mentioned the velocity is still good averages over 94 with the fast ball but he’s tried some different pitches throughout his career and he’s settled on these three now fast split predominantly a little bit of a slider but it’s pretty much just the fast ball and the splitter a huge milestone but the next out he records will make it officially 1,800 innings pitched at the big league level quite an achievement for him just to get that type of volume a guy who has like we mentioned pitched in parts of 13 seasons signed a five-year deal with the Blue Jays giving him a little bit of stability after six years with the Orioles and then he had bounced around with the Giants the Braves and the Cincinnati Reds but really a guy who seems to have saved his best stuff for last for about the first six seven years of his career was pitching to the tune about a four five RA but then after the pandemic really figured some things out a 281 ERA was an all-star in 21 with the Giants came here to the Blue Jays was pitching in the low threes and right now the ERA just over four but still like you said Boowo there he’s still getting a decent amount of strikeouts maybe not just pitching as deep into games as he did a few years prior way less hits than innings pitched the only thing that’s the problem the home run rate a little high but otherwise he’s been solid but still strikes out a lot of guys almost a strikeout per inning limiting the base runners so they have to be very pleased with his performance meanwhile for the Diamondbacks offensively they got to lower the strikeouts way too many of them yesterday 12 in total they’re averaging nine strikeouts per game throughout the first two games of this series it’s just very uncharacteristic for this Dback offense and against a couple guys that weren’t strikeout throwers the velocity on the two guys starting barely over 90 and they really expanded the zone swung at pitches up out of the zone a lot and they definitely need to be more disciplined here the roof is open the sky in front of us dark gray the sky behind us a beautiful shade of blue 68Β° is going to be the temperature here at first pitch and we’re ready for baseball backs are in their black alternate uniforms the Blue Jays in their all whites and Gossman ready the right-handers first pitch outside to Perdomo and we are off and running first pitch at 309 another lineup change for Peromo in the leadoff spot with no Carol as this one pitch is taken at the knees for a strike ryan Additton is our home plate umpire lance Sparksdale the crew chief at first will Little at second john Bacon is over third one ball one strike on for Domo gauzeman kicks now he deals and it’s rolled over to the right collected by Jimenez throw to first in time and they lead off ground out this how he gets started in the top of inning number one out in front of a split finger fast ball he throws it just as much to lefties as righties that’s his other go-to pitch it works as a change up it works to get ground balls and he gets one there and now here is Catel Marte lot of experience against Gau especially with those two years as we mentioned with the Giants tell from the left side the first pitch he takes a strike velocity at about 93 and they count nothing at one right-hander set there’s the 01 swung on that ball drilled deep right it sends Barger back and onto the warning track he makes the catch just sort of died out there after a good looking launch and unfortunately that is out number two sounded and through the infield i thought that was rocketing out of here but got it a little bit off the bat didn’t hit it quite as hard as we thought up here in the booth well they’re two down and that brings up the first baseman P Smith haven hitting 271 on the year five homers 18 RBI’s and the pitch off the outside corner we were talking about David prior to the game today the production the hits have sort of been there but the slug has vanished four homers in the month of April only one since as now he takes a called strike fast ball bottom of the zone to count one and one a guy who’s really dominating fast balls to begin the season we saw pitchers make the adjustment as the 1-1 now swung on and missed away two balls one strike and now a hitter at times who looks like he’s kind of caught between two avenues am I going to get a fast ball am I going to get a breaking ball and often takes the heater for a strike three and swings at the breaking ball out of the zone not all the time still like I said getting his hits there’s the one-two pitch and Pen takes slowing away two balls two strikes the count wind is swirling a little bit here at Roger Center with a roof open lot of rainfall yesterday had to keep it closed for the entirety of the game two outs top of the first no score the two- two from Gossman is taken low gosman wanted it a good call by added to that change up or pardon me Splitfinger missed down and that’ll fill up the count at three and two bossman ready the 3-2 on the way haven this time takes strike three and fast ball middle of the plate and it comes to an end and it sends us to the bottom of the first it’s the Dags nothing and the Blue Jays coming up against Ryan Nelson when we come back on the Morgan and Morgan Dbags radio network moments in baseball have been broadcast on the radio since 1921 smith courts wanting to write down the line it may go crazy folks go crazy it’s a home run and the Cardinals today at dignityhealth.org/azortho dignity Health a proud partner of the Arizona Diamondbacks evback’s front office focus Wednesday mornings at 11:45 on Arizona Sports 987 and the Arizona Sports app it’ll be Bob Bashett who leads off the bottom of the first for the Blue Jays shed his homer to Niche the first two of the series in the first pitch he swings and fouls it back nothing and won the count second time this year Jet has had a stretch in which he’s homered in backto-back game no point this year has he gone three straight as Nelson’s 01 offering just swung on and grounded off the left leg of Nelson right to the first baseman Smith who underhands back to Nelson covering at the bag and that’s in time for the out nelson’s waving he’s fine tell the trainer doesn’t have to come out he’s going to come out anyway and are just taking lumps right now everybody’s getting hit in the box on the mound i mean he looked like Jock Plant out there with a kick save ricocheted it right over to his first baseman and then credit pave keeping his cool just delivered a nice underhand flip but you’re right it’s been a bit of a shooting gallery for these Diamondbacks we saw Thompson nearly get smoked by a ball taylor Scott I want to say got hit by a comebacker in his leg yesterday now Nelson’s going to throw a pitch and he seems to be all right and I think we’re already past the point of Debbacks can ill afford another injury they just put Mareno on the injured list and Carol on the bench today with his sore wrist after getting hit by a pitch last night but fortunately looks like Nelson is going to be all right customary a couple warm-up throws got him in the lower half but he didn’t seem too bothered by it pitches looked all right so here we go so he hacky sacks his way to his first out and now here is Addison Barger barger had a huge night last night we could argue both game series as the left-hander swings pops it up out of just to the left of second in the shallow outfield turf and it’ll be Purdomo who makes the catch alec Thomas lost his hat due to the wind that seemed to bother him more as he now scoops it up and there are two down for Vladimir Guerrero Jr throw strikes get quick outs that’s a recipe for a starter working right here as Archer went up and tough pitch to handle 96 up and in i mean the top three of this Blue Jay offense has just torched the Dbacks in the first two games of the series as Guerrero takes a strike all the way they came into this one 15 for 25 six doubles four homers 11 RBI’s and eight runs scored horrero had two hits yesterday and three walks couple RBI’s as well as the 01 from Nelson is up and in and that makes it a one andone count talking Stick Resort Playation is back stay in play with rates as low as $129 the one-1 pitch swing and a miss now one and two don’t want to get too far off topic here this time of year was so hot some buddies I’m sure you know some buddies have done this as well live in Arizona but they book a night at Talking Stick play some golf in the morning enjoy the pool in the afternoon and then have a little fun at night over the blackjack tables on a two on Guerrero the strap came off doesn’t call for time now he swings and misses he’s down on strikes nice job for Nelson it’s a one two three bottom of the first inning and we head to the second scoreless between the Dbacks and the Blue Jays on the Morgan and Morgan Dbacks radio network let’s see if you can figure out the following baseball slang term today’s phrase is oppo do you know what it means oppo taco a home run hit to the opposite field with an oppo taco his 13th and it’s a one-run game expand your vocabulary by listening to every game on the MLB app and MLB.com take a hack at guessing which baseball player or manager said the following i really don’t know what to say i’m just uh so happy I gave something these people cheer we all did i mean it was a great game both teams played incredible it was a great game that’s Mike Piaza after he hit an eighth inning go ahead home run in the first New York Mets home game after 911 hear moments like this and more on the MLB app and MLB.com moments in baseball have been broadcast on the radio since 1921 smith Corks one into right down the line it may go go crazy folks go crazy it’s a home run and the Cardinals have won the game by the star of three to two and a home run by the Wizards catch the next unforgettable call on the MLB app and MLB.com the San Francisco Giants travel to Chase Field on June 30th for a four-game series to take on the Dback get your tickets today at dbacks.com back skipper Tory Lavell talks with Burns and Gambo Friday afternoons at 2:30 on Arizona Sports 987 in the Arizona Sports app starting pitcher turned in a one two three first inning here we are now in the second it’ll be Missaga native Josh Naylor to get it going it’ll be followed by Suarez and Guriel really a day where you need your middle of the order to come through naylor he was excellent yesterday two for four both those hits against lefties the righty first pitch just outside ball one 10 now and J’s been missing blow if you watch the television broadcast of the Dbacks in the opener on Tuesday you probably heard Todd Walsh talking about the custom hockey jersey that Naylor had made he was using pregame which I thought was kind of interesting as 20 is swung on little pop up shallow center this is a tough play and nobody’s going to reach it it’s down takes a huge hop in front of Plaz the center fielder and Naylor dinks one in there for a leadoff single a lot of ways to do it naylor continues and he’s got hits in every game in this series as that average keeps climbing over 300 suarez 21 homers 58 RBI’s the pitch to him taken for a strike so we are now about a little bit less than a month the All-Star game check the calendar here see exactly what Tuesday that is but I think the Allstar game is going to be played on the 15th as the 01 swung on that is hit high and fairly deep out to right center field going back is Barger still going back looking up it is gone opposite field home run for Suarez that’s number 22 he’s got 60 RBI’s on the season and more importantly a two nothing Diamondback lead really helps that single in front of him the bloop in you get a bloop and a blast that’s the recipe for some good offense suarez just got a fast ball up and hit it let it fly out it kept carrying and got into the third row out there in right center and with that trip around the diamond stop by any Daniels Jewelers say home run your free team bracelet and $50 gift card toward any purchase of $99 or more daniels Jewelers own the dream all right they got the early lead exactly what they needed now here is Furiel and right as we talk about the middle of your order coming through they put a quick two spot on Gauzeman and now Guriel swings at the first pitch pops it up first baseman Guerrero drifting over and not going to have a play hits the netting above the Dback dugout that’s the fast ball too he get out of here and nine out of the 11 home runs on that fast ball no balls one strike time to try and wash rinse repeat gosman is 0 on pitch ariel takes a strike 95 inner third down now in Gman’s favor nothing with two i want to go back to Suarez here for a moment talk about the All-Star game as the O2 it’s in the dirt ball in two strikes with a little less than a month to go what do you think his first half totals will be cuz now at 22 and 60 what 15 16 games to go between now and the break could be a little more than that actually there’s the one two buriel thought about it takes inside two balls two strikes the count i think there’s still got nine at home and then six still here seven more on the road so you’re looking at 22 games left i mean he can easily get to 25 and 65 22 tried to check his swing he could not and he is down on strikes as Burell second strike out for Gossman first down in this inning and with one out it brings up the former Blue Jay Randall Grid and it was around this time last year they were starting to put some other people at third base they were wondering what they were going to do with scores then he took off and he’s been on an absolute eater for the last full calendar year obsidy struggling for the Jays as the first pitch to take it low for ball one four runs allowed against the Phillies three runs allowed against the Twins eight hits three runs allowed against the A’s so strange considering how well he was pitching at the end of day as the one pitch is off the plate outside two balls no strikes on Frick who’s hitting 245 on the year three home runs and 11 driven in last two starts 15 innings pitched only one run allowed eight total hits 15 strikeouts without walking a batter it’s 200 again that’s just off the corner and now Gossman’s falling behind three and 0 but now three straight with a home run surrendered so walk for Phillies his last time out three pitch and that’s off the plate ball four on Q it’s his first walk allowed today defacks have a man on for Alec Thomas walks really starting to catch up to him that’s 10 in the last four starts and remember this one’s just in the second inning three homers 19 driven in for Thomas on the year two nothing Diamondbacks with one out at the top of the second pitch and takes a strike i mean right down the middle of 94 down all one one reached for popped up down the left field line and Robertson with room is going to make the catch in fair territory thomas out number two he tries to get a strike mainly with that fast ball and go to the split finger he’s got a lot of weak contact the Naylor single was on that this one off the end of the bat as well from Thomas jose Herrera making his third consecutive start as the pitch swung on and popped up right side of the infield it’s a first baseman coming in guerrero to the right of the mound he makes the catch that does it for the Diamondbacks in the second but good stuff for Arizona suarez a two-run shot sends us to the bottom of the second it’s the Dbacks two and the Blue Jays nothing on the Morgan and Morgan Dbags take a hack at guessing which baseball player or manager said the following i really don’t know what to say i’m just uh so happy I gave something these people cheer we all did i mean it was a great game both teams played incredible it was a great game that’s Mike Piaza after he hit an eighth inning go-ahad home run in the first New York Mets home game after 911 hear moments like this and more on the MLB cancer care at life-saving speed learn more at cityof hope.org the Arizona Diamondbacks play here arizona Sports 987 and the Arizona Sports app the second inning Alejandro Kirk is going to get it started for the Blue Jays dags have a two nothing lead and Nelson ready first pitch to the right-handed hitting Kirk is swung on hit towards deep right center long run for Thomas looking up that ball is off the railing is it a home run kirk has dropped the bases and now we get the single yes a lead off home run by Kirk and his number six for him on the season and the Jays get one right back they could have used that out of Kirk yesterday he kept coming up with the bases loaded jumps on a fast ball 105 off the bat and just gets it above the line out there because of the aesthetics and the blue of the field they use a light blue instead of that yellow home run line and it just got above that off that railing Chrisman 2-1 our score and George Springer takes upstairs home run by Sorz means the Dbacks are safe at home with Blue Sky Pest Control the official pest control provider of the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field was the 10 swing and a liner foul man he was way out in front of 96 somehow pulled that about a foot felt like a mile left of the third base bager down even at one ball and one strike this one swung on foul tip they count at one and two springer 35 years old his debut 2014 over 10 years of service time on one pitch outside two and two the count that one at 97 comes a two-1 from Nelson springer swings fouls it and stays alive couple of balls couple of strikes wind continuing to swirl around it’s giving us some notes of uh someone barbecuing below us got some burgers and dogs on the grill du pitch Springer out fronts that one without putting it in play he’ll be sitting on a lot of fast balls that’s what he uses a lot so being able to throw the curve ball and the slider especially the righthanders is really going to help out that really needs to find ways to get swings and misses with those pitches as well two balls two strikes nelson kicks and delivers and he missed just outside with a curve ball it’s going to make it three and two 2-1 Diamondbacks lead there are nobody out in the bottom of the second springer’s putting it at bat on Nelson now the 3-2 pitch he missed low a+ at bat for Springer follows the home run with a walk and that’ll bring up Andre Jimenez came back from a one-two count fouled off a curve ball but mainly saw the fast ball nelson typically can throw that strike zone whenever he wants slow that time first pitch Jimenez he takes a strike he is hitless in this series the average has tumbled all the way down to 202 better play today does have four home runs one on nobody out and Nelson from the stretch he deals jimenez tried to check his swing he did not and now it’s behind nothing in two the O2 pitch swung on fouled away nelson’s Oregon Ducks did not make it to Omaha this year but probably a little bit happier he was not an alumnest at the University of Arkansas the the way that that game fell apart for him towards the end tough way to go out the O2 blow in the dirt outside it’s a ball and two strikes you can see some of the highlights on ESPN and I know that Coyle you alerted me to them this morning then just watching the the non-double play turn miss in the outfield the little liner into center to walk it off one two swung on guided to left curiel moving back is going to make the catch and after to second Springer will make his way back first for Razerback fans that’s all too familiar they’ve had several collapses in Omaha over the years but it’s not as spectacular as that then you also do it to your rival in LSU as you see them have a chance now in a three-game set against Coastal Carolina to pick up their second championship in three years here’s Ernie Clement 298 hitter four homers 18 RBI’s right-handed hitter takes 96 in off the plate as the sun really starting to shine through here it’s made the turf look as bright of a green as it has all series long centerfield though still under shade due to the giant roof 10 swung on that’s a high pop up down the right field line not very deep in comes Pritchette got some experience playing here as he makes the grab and now two down for the rookie Will Robertson nelson can beat you in the zone with that fast ball that’s his specialty he likes throwing it in the top of the zone a great philosophy beats him there gets an easy fly ball limited opportunities in the big leagues remember Robertson though 12 homers 35 RBI’s in Triple A Buffalo before he was called up and the pitch is in off the plate for ball one two to one Diamondbacks in the bottom of the second and now Robertson thought about it check swing strike one and one all three runs in this game scored via the home run kirks a solo effort here in the bottom of the second quick throw to first and Springer back there safely two-run homer by Suarez was also our first hit of the game presented by New Vision Autoglass new vision and the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation are teaming up to donate funds to veterans every hit this series this season part is part of the Hits for Heroes program 1-1 big swing by Robertson he fouls it it’s now one and two just the one strike out for Nelson that was Vladimir Guerrero Jr to end the first now the pitch to Robertson a strike out here to end the second jays have to settle for one they also strand one and we move into the third inning dbags two Toronto one of the Morgan and Morgan Dbags radio network moments in baseball have Diamondbacks seraldo Pomo is 0 for one now he takes a strike here from Gman to make it nothing and oneo Marte and Pave 2-1 Diamondbacks we are in the third here’s the 01 pitch from the right-hander and Predomo takes another strike another fast ball to make it nothing and two on the 02 pitch tied outside one ball two strikes bommo grounded out to the second his first time up he was a victim of that splitter it seems like Gossman’s got him lined up for another as this one too reached four and found out the way comes a really good one right on the low outside corner and nice job by Purdomo just to spoil it so off the first at bat sees what it looks like now that was his first ever at bat against Cosman as well one and two the count rightander ready the pitch swinging a missed him out way out front of that one that is going to be Gossman’s third strike out today that one a little bit slower had more tumble he’s able to foul off the harder one and couldn’t get anything there tell nearly homered his first time up against Gossman flew out to deep right and this pitch take it downstairs for ball one bags fans score big game day meals at fries with savings beyond low prices including digital coupons worth over $600 each week fries fresh for everyone think I had about a pound and a half of Mortadella prize for this road trip as that’s going to be a strike call to even the count at one and one back to middle can’t have enough pkatcha mortadella and mozzarella in the house one-1 out in front he hits a line drive to center and it’s going to get down for a base hit backs have a man aboard it’s going to bring up David Smith marte hanging out over the plate to be able to reach that splitter uses all hands there to guide that one into center field they’ve been struck out looking his first time up first pitch he takes a fast ball outside for ball one one ball no strikes and low two and0 the count for whatever reason Paven even though our numbers aren’t there and the average has been dropping he finds himself ahead of the count a lot oh look out that pitch inside nearly hit him three balls no strikes rio Haven takes that’s a strike on the outside edge and they count three and one two to one Dbacks runner at third one out here comes 3-1 pitch payment takes outside that is ball four he draws a walk and now there are two on for Naylor mentioned last inning the walk’s really affecting Gauin lately he had gone on a really nice stretch had four starts in a row without walking anyone and now it’s been at least two or more in each of the next four starts taylor at base hit his last time up again Dback’s a little thin in the lineup today with injuries they really can’t afford to squander scoring opportunities as that pitch from Gossman missing low and inside they kicked up some chalk as count as one and0 yeah right now for Gauin 23 strikes 19 balls it’s kind of all over the place we saw how that looked yesterday for the Diamondbacks it’s just kind of feels like you’re stuck in rush hour traffic there’s no flow or rhythm to the game defensively and then when you get a couple of outs on offense just feels like the energy drops backs utilizing their patience as the 10 taylor takes a strike top of the zone like a hanging splitter and it’s one and one gosman again just two pitches primarily so you’re missing with one consistently teams can really just sit on the other one if that’s the only one you can throw in the zone wind is really howling as that pitch swung on popped up over towards short it is Bette underneath it he makes the catch the infield fly rule is in effect they’re now two down for Suarez who homerred his last time up you saw the same thing I did a piece of black plastic or garbage swirling right in front of Naylor as that pitch is coming home and that same piece is all the way out left center now two on for Suarez he got homer 22 earlier this game looking for number 23 and he swings and drills it deep left center field that is going to get over the head of Robertson and off the wall gatel will score haven rounding third right behind him and Suarez a two-run double gives Arizona a four to one lead has no idea what to throw Suarez so he tries to guide a slider in there first pitch suarez all over it though that was just screaming “Hit me.” And he drills that one in the gap three RBI now just two at bats for Suarez just 62 on the year we were talking about his projected numbers between now and the end of the first half he can easily get to 26 homers and 80 RBI’s and doing that by from this point on getting an RBI every other day as that pitch deiel is low for ball one trip to Kors that always helps struggling offense not to say the Dback’s offense has been struggling at second two down set and the one pitchel swings and misses he struck out his first time up has a one ball one strike down here and Ander set there’s the 1-1 swinging a miss again one and two swung right over the top of two splitters out of the zone and for Gossman I’m not really sure unless it’s a setup pitch why you would take the road less traveled one and two the count and here it is the one two belle swings and misses right through a splitter and that does it for the Diamondbacks here in the third gossman strikes out two but he also surrenders two as the Dbacks add to their lead it’s now 4-1 Diamondbacks as we go to the bottom of the third let’s see if we can figure out the following baseball slang term today’s phrase is oppo do you know what it means taco a home run hit to the opposite field with an oppo taco his Focus Wednesday mornings at 11:45 on Arizona Sports 987 and the Arizona Sports app jonathan Claus leads off for the Jays and it’ll be right back to the top of the order as Ryan Nelson rides in his first pitch fast ball right at the knees for a strike 41 Bags have the lead to avoid being swept in Toronto second consecutive trip out fourth swept in 23 now this one swung on and popped up out of play third base side two strikes the count you know we were kind of inest talking about the result of the Stanley Cup final another year in which a Canadian team could not uh so to speak bring the cup back home there’s a little bit of that stretch in the early 90s in baseball again very small comparatively as Claus fouls that one back the Jays great teams that go back to back 92 93 that was Joe Carter and then in 94 obviously you don’t know how the playoffs are going to shake out but a lot of people felt like the Montreal Expose had the best team in baseball they were stacked on the pitching side that was Young Pedro no two pitch base takes loan inside but what does everyone remember 1994 lockout strike cancellation of the World Series and that decision to not play the World Series as the one-two is going to be ruled a ball that’s unfortunate it was in the strike zone and Herrera just couldn’t catch it two balls two strikes now herrera asking about where that pitch missed and attit saying “You got to help me out here a little bit.” That change of cut on Herrera instead of sank he was expecting it to go the opposite way two two that one popped up we’ll do it again but a lot of baseball fans both casual and and somewhere moderate when that decision was made by the commissioner pretty much abandoned baseball still at the time rivalry the popularity more popular than the NFL don’t remember ratings in the early 90s have to go back check 22 now base shot jam pops it up shallow right and Catel over the shoulder catch makes the grab there’s one down for Jet you’re absolutely right on that so many people and even after the home run craze in the late 90s and then into bonds brought some people back there were still people that never did fully come back to baseball history doesn’t repeat itself but it rhymes we might not be heading towards the cancellation of a World Series as Bette steps in there dags lead four to one and the first pitch a called strike but we are heading towards a nasty lockout it looks like in a couple of years the consensus seems to be that owners are going to be putting their foot down demanding that players association accept the salary cap as weakly ground second reach for one way out of the zone and tell throws him out there’s not a whole lot of things the players association said they will never ever agree to but the one thing at the very top of that list is they will never agree to a salary cap so here you have forecasting owners ready to lock out the players saying we won’t strike a deal until you accept the cap and the players saying well that’s one thing we’ll never agree upon and I don’t know what that means and it’s not like there’s ever a good time for a lockout as Barger takes low but the sport has never risen more in popularity since what you’ve described pitch clock has been a wonderful addition the automated strike zone is really popular amongst fans that seems to be coming next year you got the most famous athlete in the world playing baseball arguably in his prime this just feels like such a mistake and obviously we’ll see what happens i suppose both sides could agree that would seem to defy what we have seen historically both recent and in kind of a long-term past the game is in such a good spot right now and it seems like baseball’s about to wreck itself here’s the 200 and Barger another weak ground ball right side up by the pitcher Nelson pump fake had it stuck in his hand then tosses the pavement in time for the out and the inning comes to a close the Jay’s down in order in Sports app it is the top of the fourth inning heck have a four to one lead as Randall Grick leads off top of the hour here in Toronto where we were for a second after talking about Vancouver because that pitch is hide outside for ball one richard Thomas and Herrera here’s the 10 and a check swing foul is going to make it a one ball one strike count grick walked his first time up dags have cashed in on four Gino Suarez RBI’s two on a homer and another two on a double and now the 1-1 just missed inside gossman seems really intent to attack Richard fast balls he just hasn’t located him on the inside edge couple times in that first at bat and missed in comes two-1 richie takes in the dirt ball three gossman i don’t know if he lost his footing or that pitch just made him visibly upset but now three balls in the strike fuel comes and goes especially for a split finger fast ball but you have to have the feel for the four seat fast ball he just doesn’t have it here’s the pitch swung on and popped up foul out of play and let’s pause 10 seconds for station ID and the Morgan and Morgan DBEX radio network kmdp FMA Sports the local sports leader on the Arizona Sports app and on 987 two swung on highf fly ball deep left center field robertson moving back now on the warning track leaping and making the catch it’s Plas it’s the center fielder who tracks it down and Christian gave it a ride but came up just a bit short as there’s one down in the fourth about as far out there as you can hit it without it getting over the wall and I think he got just a little bit off the handle instead of the sweet spot otherwise that would have been a long gone home at Dignity Health our team of orthopedic experts can help keep you in motion don’t let joint pain put your life on pause visit side of the infield short stop bet out on the turf makes the catch and now two down for the catcher Herrera such a difference when Gossman’s ahead he’s been able to induce some weak contact a lot of popups and then falls behind gives up a couple hits and then he just has to face Gino Suarez within on base and now the first pitch to Herrera that is a taken strike and down nothing and one dexs host bottom of the fourth inning ryan Nelson doing a nice job so far the Dback’s offense has given him a four to one lead but now he faces Guerrero Kirk and Springer guerrero struck out kirk homerred Springer walked in their respective first at bats now Nelson’s pitch guerrero takes a strike at the knees got the slider on him it’s 0 and one and ready on pit swung on and popped up should be playable in comes Pin Smith and he will make the catch right next to Herrera not sure Herrera he hurt him but enough to get out of the way and there’s one down that’s the way it should have gone pave gets that ball so much easier for him to do it coming in had to run way out out on the baseline to make sure he didn’t run into pavement on that great job last inning by Nelson the shut down inning just keep it rolling and look at these top three hitters we talked about how coming into this game they were 15 for 25 in the series basically all the destruction had come through the top of the order as now Kirk takes a strike so far 0 for six the big reason why they just have the one and it was on an ambushed first fast ball by Kirk his last at bat one out nobody on the 01 to Kirk another strike down nothing in two as we mentioned the Dbacks wrap up series against the Jays today and then they head out to Denver to take on the Rockies just got walked off by the Nationals puts it into a three-game winning streak four game winning streak that one too high one ball and two strikes count that bullpen we saw since the rock is at Chase Field is rapidly deteriorating ra up over a full run since the last time we’ll have seen him one-two pitch kirk takes outside two balls two strikes and even for a traveling baseball team the rules apply when you’re flying internationally they’re going to have to get their passports checked go through the airport as this two- two pitch swung on and foul towards third suarez makes the catch not sure how Kurt was able to put that ball there with that type of swing but he’ll take it a foul pop out and now two down for Springer two relatively easy outs and the three and four hitters and you’re right that type of a magic shot on an inside slider but a great sign for Nelson his complete transformation is when he’ll be able to throw all of his pitches when he wants and he’s really leaning on that slider more than he has previously 4-1 Dbacks two outs nobody on and Springer first pitch swings and foul tips it now the the parent in the booth here Leo Gilbart says “We don’t have enough time to go to the duty-free shop after we get through security.” I find that a little unfair however the old in the dirt if you hear Coley doing playbyplay in Denver it means something’s terribly terribly gone wrong and most parents you would think “All right where are all my children i got to get them.” He’s already sold you down the river if you’re not there he’s still on the plane to lead sounded like he was encouraging it when we were talking prior to the game today this one going in but where else can you get such delicacies like the ketchup potato chip got you a rotisserie chicken flavored chip yesterday remember the brand but they also have the all dressing here comes 2-1 swung on pulled back those were delicious leo and I both enjoyed them and couldn’t have tasted more like an herb roasted chicken it was delicious understood the people go to a duty-free and just get colog they get that anywhere really need it right now unless I guess it was a really miserable flight the stut pitch swung on broken back fly center field and Thomas long run but he’s there and makes the catch the inning comes to an end it’s another one two three inning nice job Ryan Nelson we go to the fifth dex have a 4 to1 lead on the Morgan and Morgan beck’s trying to add to their 4-1 lead they’re at the fifth inning now gosman works to the top of the order and Domo takes a first pitch strike domo Marte and Paven Dbacks with a win back to 500 in what has been a really roller coaster two weeks as this one oh that missed inside and it nailed Additon the umpire of the shin he didn’t look all that happy about it trying to walk it off now a couple of paces perk just missed it one ball one strike here’s the pitch predomo takes outside two balls one strike count seems to have his guys picked out purdomo and Duriel so far he’s got him with the split finger the two-1 swung on weekly hit right back to the pitcher bluffed by Gosman flipped to Guerrero and there’s one out in the fifth inning went right back to the split that’s three times now twice on the ground ball and one on the strikeout all three outs against Purdomo via the split injured in a car accident or slipping a fall we’re batting over 20 billion in counting where Morgan and Morgan America’s largest injury law firm and proud sponsor of the Arizona Diamond Bags here’s Catel one for two and he takes the first pitch outside for Gossman one ball pardon me one ball no strikes now Gossman’s 10 out front was Varte swung on it one just off the outside edge to Cosman count slingshots back in his favor it’s two and one cosman the bench queued towards third it’s called by Clement and a sidearm throw to first eludes the grasp of Guerrero and Catel is going to be safe it’s a break for the Dbacks as it looked like a routine ground out routine as a Q shot could be and Clement very casual with that throw didn’t make a good one they score that at E5 clement fielded that side saddle it was so he had could have squared it up and made a strong throw over there instead he makes an offbalance throw and then Guerrero trying to get such a far stretch just missed they ruled that a base hit as Pav swings it the first pitch drills it deep right center looking up Claus it is out of here pav Smith leans into it for his sixth home run of the season evanex now in front six to one jumped all over a first pitch fast ball haven’s been so patient he was ahead in the count in each of his previous at bats waste no time there and it’s just getting two runs at a time and with that trip around the diamond stop by any Daniels Jewelers and say home run for your free team bracelet and $50 gift card toward any purchase of $99 or more daniel’s Jewelers own the dream get to work here is Naylor and that is in the dirt ball one that’s exactly what the Diamondbacks needed after a tough game yesterday a lot of things not going in their favor beyond just the final score now they’ve got a six to one lead as the 10 is low the best thing they can do is add to it make this as stress-free of a game as possible give some guys in the bullpen a much needed day of rest and then be fresh blocked and loaded ready to go against the Rockies as the 200 is outside three i know a lot of fans given the way the season’s gone they’re really counting on the Diamondbacks to take if not all six of the remaining games of this road trip at least five of six they’re hoping for a sweep of either Colorado or Chicago on paper no doubt this was the toughest test and then get one here try to get some momentum and build that further through Colorado into Chicago three balls no strikes and the pitch outside that is ball four like Naylor wanted to swing the bat had something to say that four pitch walk gossman didn’t like it he’s staring at Naylor he makes his way down to first naylor not really acknowledging him gossman no doubt not happy with being on the wrong side of a 6-1 scoreboard right now six to one Dbacks and now Gauin throws over to first kind of saw that was coming he stared at him the whole time naylor never even glanced in his direction as he went to first naylor likes to take his spots with stolen bases as Suarez swings at the first pitch and pulls a foul this cat and mouse game of animosity continues think that Daylor would try and steal a bag on Gossman to really get under his skin no balls and a strike the pitch tore swings and misses a big count is nothing two fast for a homer slider for a double the only other pitch he has is a splitter so I imagine he’s going to throw it again there goes Naylor the pitch is taken and check swing no swing count one and two naylor gets his 10th stolen base of the year well as we again kind of predicted don’t have to be a meteorologist to see the forecast sometimes it’s just brewing one two inside two balls two strikes i’m not advocating for it i’ve never broadcasted a brawl just saying never even in the minors nothing no no they’re real serious about that that’s where the big suspensions come out two balls two strikes here’s the pitch suarez swings fights it off that’s a base hit shallow center field daylor didn’t get a great read he’ll be held at third as the throw is cut off by Guerrero it’s a good hold by Shawn Larkin as there are now runners on the corners and a chance at redemption for Lordis Guriel Jr he’s been a victim of the splitter via the strikeout both times and they’re getting bad for the ball suarez seeing it well today three for three this is something the Dbacks couldn’t do yesterday they only had multiple base runners one inning and already three out of the five innings they put multiple on first pitch and Guriel Cal tips it he has swung at either five or six splitters out of the zone i mean you talk about a stubborn approach sure that’s usually a positive thing but he is just not making the adjustment and Gossman is not changing up the game plan against him no balls in a strike here’s the pitch buriel now takes a called strike got the count nothing at two six to one Dbacks first and third one out the O2 oh it hits Guriel on the shoulder and it’s really getting away from Gman now to have an arm up in the pen and I’m not sure how much longer Gossman might be for this game particularly if Critic’s able to deliver a blow and that’s going to be it for Gossman we’ll see if he has anything to say to Naylor on his way out but this call to the bullpen brought to you by Sanderson Ford best play to New Ford it’s Sanderson Ford debbacks already in front six to one have them loaded with one out when we come back on the Morgan and Morgan Debbex radio already in front 6 to1 here is Paxton Schulz big right-hander making his ninth appearance a 306 ERA in just under 18 innings pitched tough spot as Randic is at the plate and Schultz’s first pitch is in there for a strike tough day for Gman and Nebags have a chance to make it even worse she’s responsible for six runs and the three base runners on now Schultz ready one rich swings rockets it on a line to left it’s going to be caught by Robertson naylor wisely tagging from third he comes home to score and just a rocket of a sack fly makes it 71 with still two on in the fifth inning good thing Robertson held Pat that thing could have easily got over his head as hard as it was hit but picked up a run and you’re right for Gman he let five guys on base in a row before getting pulled never how you want to end your outing alec Thomas now comes to the plate hitless so far 0 for two and Schultz ready is first pitch too high for ball one decent enough speed on the bases that a gap shot should bring home two with two outs schultz ready and the right-hander deals missed outside again two balls no strikes long hold now Schultz ready at his 200 guided foul by Thomas really trying to live away and this is an invitation for Thomas to try and go back to where he was his rookie year when he came up in early part of 2022 that was really drive the ball with some carry to left center there’s a two-1 and a strike called on Thomas that looked to be well off the plate away break for there two two count as if he were able to just hit a ball in front of Suarez there’s a huge gap between where Bashette’s playing and the third baseman Clemente two two swinging a miss thomas instead strikes out the inning comes to a close the Dbacks they’re able to bring home three and as we go to the bottom of the fifth inning it is now the Diamondbacks seven and the Blue Jays won with Morgan and Morgan defects the big hits all the great brats you got to be kidding me and all the swagger relive the day’s the Arizona Diamondbacks play here arizona Sports 987 and the Arizona Sports app leading off for the Blue Jays second baseman Andre Jimenez Dbacks have increased their lead to six it’s now a 71 game as Ryan Nelson who’s sitting at 51 pitches misfired low for ball one you’ve got Jimenez Clement and Roberts this a great spot to get another one two three inning nelson’s retired nine in a row as now that one clips the outside part of the zone for a called strike not sure if that was a get me over fast ball or a misread putter this one won’t outside for ball of two two balls of strike previous four seamer was about 91 miles an hour this one a 93.5 you had to keep an eye out for dips in velocity as we have learned this year it could be a signal of an injured pitcher two-1 outside four ball three three balls one strike nelson doesn’t need to change anything he’s up 71 and pitching brilliantly attacking and you don’t want to start this inning with a leadoff walk here comes the 3-1 pitch oh I missed badly inside and he hits Jimenez ouch i was thinking the same thing comes the trainer for the Jays and the manager nelson’s velocity if those were all four seamers and none of them were cutters all over the place that inning as low as 90 as high as about 93 and a half this guy he’s usually about 94 95 herrera talking to him right now predommo in there as well and you’re right you were consciously checking that out herrera looking into the dugout almost gave the eyes to the dugout like “Hey maybe keep an eye on him.” You see that did it again be an alarmist or anything this is something that we’re monitoring here dex in front seven to one one on for Clement first pitch swung on hit deep left side pitch at 94 no balls one strike moment so far has flown out to right field now the Oan is taken low one ball one strike nelson set and the right-handers 1-1 swung on grounded to third suarez has it goes to second there’s one onto first double play 543 exactly what Nelson needed and you can wash away that hit by pitch for the rookie Will Robertson another fast ball up at 94 herrera backing up first was all the way over by the dugout and had a little quick chat with Tori I think clarifying what he was making those motions about first pitch from Nelson robertson takes lo and outside now one ball no strikes Robertson struck out looking his first time up here’s the oneo swung on rolled to first but foul paven defending the line evens itself up to one ball and one strike velocity velocity back up which is good maybe just a product of Nelson Nelson getting stretched out plus he had to sit down for a long inning in a pitching chain now the 1-1 oh awkward swinging a miss by Robertson he was expecting hard he got soft in the off speed and now behind the ball and two strikes i love this version of Ryan Nelson when he got on that roll last year particularly the second half of the season he would mix up the pitches a little more change ups little more sliders and love seeing that two outs nobody on in the fifth 71 Dbacks now the one-two pitch from Nelly is taken high two balls two strikes kind of flashed at it for a moment at Robertson but not even really a check swing two and two now 22 swinging a foul tip herrera hangs on that’s a strike out nelson’s third and that is now five innings of one-run ball here for Ryan Nelson and we go to the sixth dex leads seven to one of the Morgan and Morgan Dex moments in baseball have been broadcast on the radio since 1921 smith courts one to right down the line it may go Go crazy folks go crazy it’s a home ball no strikes it’ll be Herrera at the top of the order for the Diamondbacks peromo and Patel 10 is just outside two balls no strikes for Herrera this is now the ninth start for him in the last 13 games the two pin swung on fouled back two balls one strike the backs of the previous eight games entering play today just three and five here’s two swinging a miss two balls two strikes two and two the count and the pin too high again three and two trying to find a way on schultz delivers and he missed up and away that is a walk a nice job by Herrera finds a way aboard and the Dbacks trying to get right back to it and just add to this lead like they’ve done so well in the third and previously the fifth they’ll take their walks four now and hit by pitch so a lot of free passes schultz I imagine a little rusty hasn’t thrown in 11 days pitch here to Purdomo who is 0 for three he shows bunt takes outside ball no strikes schultz a Utah native who did not travel too far for his college baseball at Utah Valley as a 10 there’s a swing and a foul and the count one ball in one strike ultimately was a 14th rounder by the Brewers and made his way to Toronto as the player to be named later one swung on again fouled by Purdomo liner left side it’s a ball in two strikes always interesting that player to be named later because and I’m looking at the details of this seemingly minor trade in 2021 so comes the one-two pitch ground ball right side that’s going to get past the dive of Jimenez and it’s into right field he backs now with a couple guys on base for Catel Marte could easily make that walk hurt they’ve been able to do that two other times already what are the details of that trade so the trade happened in February midFebruary 2021 the Blue Jays traded for Derek Fiser from the Milwaukee Brewers obviously to improve their chances at pickup basketball point guard point the deal was completed on May 2nd i said “You give us Derek Fiser as this pitch is a stride.” And then what somewhere in the language by the time May 1 came around hey it’s time for you to pick up the check here and give us that player to be named later usually those happen at the end of seasons as the 01 is low away a lot of teams they might agree to a player and say “Look like at the deadline if we make the playoffs we want this guy if we get to the World Series we want this guy if we miss the playoffs we’ll take this guy one ball one strike and now the pitch swung on hit towards the left field corner falling fast and that is going to get past Robertson and one hop off the left field wall herrera rounds third and scores pomo to second rbi double by Catel and the Dbacks now in front eight to one dex giving the Blue Jays a dose of what they got the day before not just getting runs but hitting for power a lot of extra base hits and that’s a great sign the player to be named later interesting too because sometimes it’ll be all right can’t have one of these guys but we’ll put four or five guys in a prospect pool you pick the guy you want out of this and so sometimes it takes a while to get all those guys evaluated as well figure out your best option infield is in second and third nobody out and Faven Smith who homered his last time up takes a bottom of the zone strike count is nothing and one Blue Jays there is no cavalry coming right now for Paxton Schulz and that bullpen is leaning over the rail watching as the 01 blowing in one ball and one strike he got off to a bad start this inning he walked the nine-hole guy now you’re facing the cream of the crop in terms of the middle of the of the order they’ve been one for two also in a walk two runs scored and now the 1-1 takes low two balls one strike count naylor on deck romo at third Patel at second eight to one diamond Banks we’re in the top of inning number six and now with 2-1 inside ball three there’s only so many ways a pitcher can help himself out usually the top of the list is throwing strikes and he’s just not throwing enough of them you mentioned the walk to Herrera he’s now fallen behind 3 and 0 about a 50/50 percentage rate of balls and strikes so far it is 3-1 to Pavement is taken for a strike low cutter and it’s now a full count here’s the 3-2 swung on line drive center field coming in and making a sliding attempt is Claus not sure if he caught it they say he did not both runners tagged anyways bernomo scores it’s nine to one and now they’re going to tag out Paven no signal yet it looked like third base umpire John Bacon set the ball drop pin is not on the field he’s back in the dugout and so what’s happening here we’re going to see a challenge it appears blue Jays definitely Schneider tapped the ears he wants to see we’re going to meet now on the mound it’s interesting claus wasn’t more demonstrative usually if you catch it usually come up pointing to your dugout no no I got it with all due respect I’m not sure what the call was because there was no demonstrative umpire signaling that there was an out all we saw was John Bacon kind of give a a half-hearted no catch that’s a good point as well and it is a tag by Catel i mean he did everything perfectly so I think the only thing that’s going to matter here is do the Dbacks have runners at first and third or is there just a runner at third and only one out they’re still talking things over here replay review brought to you by Planet Fitness get pit for less than $15 a month but we’ll see if they can determine between the four of them or maybe they do have to go to New York haven’s going to pick up an RBI either way so three for him four for Suarez what could they possibly be talking about that would take this amount of words i’m wondering if they’re double-checking that they had a clear call out or like a catch or not now pave it back out to first david tried to sneak his way back onto first base mission impossible stuff right here cut the zipline and now the professors seem to have come to some sort of conclusion but first they have to in secret say it’s a Tory Lavell as Lance Clarksdale the crew chief going out so we’ll find out but if Paven does in fact reach this is backto back innings where they’ve had five in a row safely get to base but now action up the bullpen they wonder if now is the time to make a pitching change kind of lengthy you’ve had enough time to get someone loose again Schultz hasn’t pitched in 11 days so doesn’t look sharp out there by any stretch i just wonder if there could be some sort of umpires not interference but the lack of a call and I could see a way in which if the catch wasn’t made it looked like the catch was that somehow they got to bring a runner back to third still know where in the rule book that would be on the replay on our research pool here it looks like a clean catch by Clip see if we get an announcement from Lance Parksdale right so after all that exactly unfolded the way we thought it did and now John Schneider wants an explanation i’m with you i don’t know what the meeting of the minds needed to determine all of that he’s going to stick with Schultz here so it is a sack fly for David Smith another runner comes home it’s nine to one Diamondbacks and great base running by Catel gets to third there’s only one down here is Naylor two-run scored for Naylor a walk and a single there’s the pitch that is high for ball one not to be absent minded to the details but also just realizing the Blue Jays have one hit home run by Kirk really how good Nelson’s been today we’re in the top of the sixth and the 10 swung on that’s a shallow pop up to left behind it Robertson makes the catch and a bluff tag by Catel cut off by Ernie Clement as they’re now two down for Auano Suarez sure naylor a little disappointed he got it in the air just not quite deep enough he keeps alternating getting on base getting out getting on base now getting out nothing gets past you the patterns guy there is Suarez what a day he’s had he’s a triple shy of the cycle four RBI’s and the pitch here is too high for ball one third two outs nine to one Diamondbacks fight off the sweep at the hands of the Blue Jays 10 is popped up and the second base Jimenez goes out waves everybody away with two hands as he makes the catch and that’s going to do for the Dexs here in the sixth inning dex score twice they do it on two hits and strand one and we go to the bottom of the sixth inning it is the Let’s see if you can figure out the following baseball slang term today’s phrase is oppo taco do you know what it means ao taco a home run hit leads off the bottom of the sixth and Nelson who’s been brilliant delivers a first pitch strike it’s the nine hitter for the Jays and then right back to the top of the order as the offense has supplied Nelson with a huge lead nine to one our score nelson in turn is only allowed one hit as Blaz takes a strike a home run to Kirk a walk that followed by Springer and those have been the only two base runners for the Blue Jays this afternoon no balls two strikes nelson looking for strikeout number three and he missed outside one ball two strikes the count jose popped up to second his first time up and now here comes the one-two pitch low two balls two strikes two two on the way base swings and weekly fouls with left side over the netting in seats games have already gone final and some of those teams in the Midwest had to make up some ground as there were quite a few rain outs yesterday tigers you mentioned game against the Pirates ter Scooble got his eighth win of the season 9-2 final there yankees put their losing streak to an end they beat the Angels 73 behind a strong performance from Carlos Rodon hard to mention the walk-off for Washington james Wood two pitch swung on and another ball popped up third base side as far as a courtesy look but again out of play all fast balls this at bat of course he leans on that pitch a lot interesting thing today just three cut fast balls and more sliders two balls two strikes and the pitch foul tips it into the glove of Herrera and he is down on strikes he’s trying to appeal for the check swing and the home plate umpire is that oh you fouled it off it doesn’t really matter [Music] points for Dex rewards on game tickets exclusive merchandise and more by shopping participating products at prize food stores visit prizefood.com/debex for details here is Bett first pitch takes off the plate outside ball one two ground outs for the Blue Jays shortstop now time going to be called father Dante Bett four time allstar great career mostly with the Rockies as the one swung on and missed small on the inside third it’s a one ball one strike out now that pitch is outside and the count two and one if there are a few baseball nerds that like to go and look at certain players baseball reference pages and identify certain seasons i fall into that group i look up Barry Bond’s 2004 about four times a year and that one is outside three balls in a strike one out nobody on dante Bashett’s 1998 season is worth examination not because anything in particular was hard to believe outstanding it was a great year 3-1 Bette swings thousand away but it’s more the fact that he finished 21st in the MVP voting that season Bashette led the majors with 219 hits had a 331 average 102 RBI’s 97 runs scored with 22 homers and 48 doubles and that’s the 3-2 in off the plate that is ball four and that’s the first base runner the Blue Jays had since the second inning walk by George Springer barely missed inside that late 90s early 2000s the MVP voting is incredible because you have guys like that finishing 20 spots out with ridiculous type seasons what was the war on that season do you have it i do and just for some context I want to bring up Aaron Judge here’s the pitch and Addison Barger takes the plate for ball one one ball no strikes judge had almost an 11 war season last year hitting 322 freddy did have 58 homers 36 doubles so that was an 11 war season more or less 10.8 as the 10 is inside shet when he hit again again 331 with 122 RBI’s 22 homers and 48 doubles had a war of 1.0 that’s ridiculous you take away those 122 RBI’s and those 219 hits and you’re basically costing the Rockies a game on the season i mean that’s why war is a little bit hard sometimes to explain to I don’t know nonsaber metrics people another good one you fall in is seeing the all-star lineups from then and you realize why it’s a one war the numbers back then incredible and now a called strike on Barger two and one the count takes have a almost comedic shift on the left side of the infield the third baseman Suarez is considerably closer to his teammate Peromo than he is third base vexs expect to pull it left-handed hitter now takes a strike fast ball 95 miles an hour have the count two and two i can’t believe Arger let a fast ball go by he’s been hunting those all series dex nine Blue Jays one we’re in the bottom of the sixth and Nelson’s two-2 pitch just missed the outside edge that’s going to fill up the count of three and two backs have action up in their bullpen here comes the 3-2 swinging a ground ball to second marte goes to Purdomo for one onto first not going to be yes it is in time that’s a double play and immediately John Schneider says challenge he doesn’t even look over towards his replay guy i feel slightly vindicated he did that all from 150 ft away it just looked like on the call that Lance Barksdale wasn’t really sure what he should call and just went to the default out and now we see here that very clearly safe is Barger backs were going to take it i mean that would been a great way for Nelson to probably end he’s at 83 pitches right now 84 is season high they’re obviously trying to get him closer to that 100 mark we think this is his last batter right now then again I’m okay going one for two got the safe call right the pitching change wrong as here comes Cory Lavello call to the bullpen brought to you by Sanderson for best play to Newport Sanderson court it’ll be five and two/3 for Nelson but an excellent outing for him as he leaves the Diamondbacks lead it nine to one on the Morgan and Morgan Dbacks radio network hi this is Luis Gonzalez with the Arizona Diamondbacks inviting you to the final days of true employee pricing at Arizona’s largest of figured out how to make it stick at the highest level he faces Vlad Jr and the first pitch is a slider swung on and missed guerrero is 0 for two dexs again in front nine to one jays have a runner at first two outs the 01 pitch grounded foul third base side 99 on the velocity always fun to watch it just chuck it and see what number flashes on the video board two outs and the O2 pitch is upstairs one and two the count here’s the one two and just missed with a hundred mario took two steps to the dugout looked to be a tad bit low couple balls couple strikes this has got to be the action pitch here like you said the Diamondbacks they got to get three innings and now three and a third there’s the 22 away count three balls two strikes two outs mario long look in for his side he’s got five and now he’s going to step off so clearly him and Herrera not on the same page mario has the exaggerated almost major league movie like shake with his head back and forth and now the 3-2 is swung on and popped up over towards second catel drifting to his left will make the catch and that is going to do it for the Blue Jays here in the bottom of the six they get a walk in strand one we go to the seventh it is the Diamondbacks nine and Toronto one of the Morgan and Morgan Dback great moments in baseball have been broadcast on the radio since 1921 smith courts went into right down the line of the seventh started it’s been all Diamondbacks thus far they have a 9 to1 lead hitless today well he was hit by a pitch his last time up first pitch here he takes outside still on the mound for the Jays paxton Schultz alongside Josh Colementor Gil Martin our producer engineer Kellen Schaver our technical director there’s a 10 swung on rolled over left side into the glove of Clement and throws to first in time better start for Schultz here as he’s trying to bridge they need someone to eat up these innings in a nine to one game and it falls on him critic a walk in a sack fly today is officially 0 for one now Schultz delivers and missed time city of Hope is revolutionizing cancer care with life-saving speed we’re in the Valley with dedicated experts targeted treatments and appointments available in as little as 24 hours learn more at cityofh hope.org breaking ball that time on it but took it for a strike tracked it all the way in down even at one ball one strike here comes the one-1 two high now two balls one strike one out nobody on the two-1 pitch and Pritchette swings and misses after a high cutter it’s now two and two two two pitch popped up playable first base side and Guerrero in fair territory makes the catch he was able to come in and retire two outs and gave him the fifth the sixth really got away from him started with that walk and just unraveled two quick outs here dave McCay went out without his helmet just now now he goes to the dugout gets the helmet old school look there for Mac on the first pitch to Thomas and a chick swing no swing ball no strikes thomas hitless what you’re seeing on TV here it was Vlad Jr who pointed out to M you’re not wearing your helmet 10 thomas takes high and outside two balls no strikes here’s the swung on and that one popped up behind home plate playable for Kirk he makes the one-handed catch it’s a foul pop out for Thomas he’s now 0 for four and the Dbacks are down in order in the top of the seventh we go to the skipper Tory Lavell talks with Burns and Gambo Friday afternoons at 2:30 on Arizona Sports 987 in the Arizona Sports app bottom of the seventh a new pitcher on for the Diamondbacks right-hander Anthony Dcliffani call to the bullpen brought to you by Sanderson Ford best play to New Ford at Sanderson Ford nine to one is the lead for the Dbacks he faces Alejandro Kirk and he swings through the first pitch the count nothing in Juan discoani who was recently acquired by the Dbacks a week and a half ago just right now trying to vacuum up these final three innings or as many of them as he can with this pitch low and outside in his first outing he went two and a third for the Diamondbacks and gave up two runs on three hits including a home run here comes the 1-1 now kirk swings and pounds it foul third base side it’s one of two bottom of the seventh means the seventh inning stretch brought to you by Arizona Complete Health transforming the health of the community one person at a time i mean pick out any old pitching adage you want here Coley work ahead throw strikes one two outside two balls two strikes count that’s exactly it they’d love if Eastfani could get a three inning save and just clean it up especially going into Kors Field a place that’s known for goofy baseball 22 nowhere close it’s three and two of course Dfani was starting in Triple A Scranton so he’s very stretched out easy to go multiple innings here’s the payoff and that one’s lifted in the air to deep right field pritchette going back looking up it’s a home run second homer of the day for K both have been to the opposite field the Blue Jays get one back it’s down to two that’s just a product of getting to that full count and 91 game we’re probably going to see a fast ball there kurt Beak with it a little bit but hit it on the sweet spot and he’s got two home runs but more importantly the only two hits for this Blue Jays lineup here is George Springer he swings at the first pitch and sends it back [Music] the 01 and there’s a swing and a fly to center thomas with a little banana route behind it makes the catch and that’s out number one good bounce back after the home run much better sinker jammed him right on his hands and easy lift out of there in there to center bring up Jimenez jimenez hit by a pitch his last time up like I said been a lot of hit batters in this series that’s a strike at the knees i think you mentioned B hit three different Blue Jays to go Junior was hit by a pitch in this game this was for Simenez reached for and fouled away now they count nothing at two of course Carol hit yesterday in addition Ginkle hit a batter so there’s been multiple hit batters in all three games of this series the O2 from Dani reached for and a floater foul third base side it bounces on the morning track just beyond the third base dugout suarez has shifted so far away from 30 he had no chance it really had to be a high pop up as the wind just continues to howl 02 now oh and that hits Jimenez again did we just see warnings issued by the home plate umpire they pointed to both dugouts as Jimenez going to be checked on i’m not sure why it’s a breaking ball that just gets in hits him in the back leg i mean he was half offered at that pitch so that’s by no means intentional it’s going to be all right that might not have been warnings that might have been false warning on my part i just saw Brian Addington get in front of the plate and he pointed over towards the blue J dugout then gestured over to the Dback dugout as well not really sure what that was all about but is aboard again and now D Levan’s pitch is away for ball one here to Ernie Clement one on one out nine to2 Dbacks lead in the seventh and this pitch low and away two balls no strikes well you were mentioning all the cliches limit base runners pitch ahead not going to plan thus far in the seventh 14 pitches only eight strikes now the pitch and there’s the strike two and one the count talking stick resortation is back stay in play with rates as low as $129 we have a two-1 called again high fast ball it’s two at two here’s the bench swinging a ground ball deflects off the glove of Dclani quick flip by Predomoto Catel onto first not in time that would looked like it might have been Clement the Dbacks are they going to challenge here banister on the phone they will not it’s a fieldielder’s choice very fortunate deflection too purdomo going up the middle but deflected right in his path he shovels it to Marty i thought there’s a chance maybe he would just take a step and a half touch on the bag and get it himself first pitch swinging a popup by Will Robertson down the right field line gritic will not have a chance the field kind of juts in towards the stands in one sliver about 80% down the right field line no idea why the construction is that way but it looked like for a minute there might be an opportunity for Griie to kind of reach in there and catch it in the crevice as the 01 swing and a miss way out in front of a breaking ball was Robertson and it count nothing in two now the O2 reached for again and popped up this time should be playable haven by the first base coach’s box now drifting further towards foul territory makes the catch and that is going to do it for the Blue Jays kurt gets his second homer of the game but we go to the eighth and it’s all Dbacks they’re in front 9 to2 take a hack at guessing which baseball player or manager said the following i really don’t know what to say i’m just uh so happy I gave something these people and a cutter and then elevates the fast for the strike back to the top of the order and here comes Pobo here’s the pitch and there’s the strike one for four with a single and a run scored was the 01 three three and one definitely don’t want to walk the nine hitter the third at bat for Class each time he’s let off an inning he’s got an out 3-1 pitch faz swings and clobers one to deep right field he’s going to get one back for the Jays a long home run into the third section here in Rogers Center just his second of the season and it’s now a 9 to3 game same recipe for the Kirk home run last inning it got to a count where he knew he was getting a fast ball and he was ready for it as he pulled that one down the line first pitch swinging boette fouls it back it’s all it wants so the Blue Jays find themselves back to within six and now they’ve got the top of the order coming up the pitch and a strike right at the knees bette now behind nothing at two the 02 way outside one ball two strikes to count wind the one-two pitch bette swings and misses and Duffani gets the strike out completely tied him up a sinker that ran off the plate and you can tell by the swing he thought it was going to be in one place and tried to correct it completely screwed himself into the ground on that one nine-3 Diamondbacks lead and the pitch to Barger is low for ball one barger hitless as is the entirety of this one through three in the Blue Jay lineup 10 Barger takes downstairs from Donnie for ball two two balls no strikes it’s almost like a yo-yo effect batter to batter where Kofani he’ll get ahead of a guy one and two then the next batter fall behind two and0 as this two pick inside ball three balls no strikes again six-run lead eighth inning three breaking balls with three off speed pitches in a row now Barker’s just going to be looking for that Here it is barger takes it for a strike slider from D Lefani it’s three and one and now the 3-1 ripped into right field at base hit just nothing but sliders one after another after another and in a 3-1 count Barger knew he’s probably going to get one for a strike they just smashed it for a base hit the first base hit too they had three hits going into that all three home runs to go with two walks and two hit by pitches now they get their first regular hit and now here is Vladimir Guerrero Jr he could bring the Jays back to within just four isani he throws and Vlatty takes high for ball one one ball no strikes guerrero struck out in the first popped out to short in the fourth and then popped out again this time to second base in the sixth inning here we are in the eighth and the one pitch too high no a strike called carrerero tried to sell it it’s one and one rightander set from the stretch here’s the pitch swung on that’s a line drive to left field that’s a fair ball it goes all the way to the corner he’s got good speed going to be waved around as the throw from Guriel hits the netting and goes out of play oh my goodness they’re going to award Vladimir Guerrero Jr third as Guru picked the ball up from the corner could not deliver an accurate throw and the ball hit the pole and then deflected into the seats you had just mentioned on the foul ball the last inning that thing juts out it’s uh less than an arms length from the foul line and it’s usually you get the two bases when it’s a throw from the outfield that goes out of play so if they were giving Guerrero second he should end up on third but just a play and a throw you won’t ever see i mean what are we doing i’m not sure what happened i mean he threw it predommo’s inside the foul line so he missed to the right with a sinker ball I guess and now Guerrero is just given third base on such a headscratching throwing error by Guriel it’s his second throwing error of the year alejandro Kirk and first pitch Kirk takes inside for ball one and now the Diamondbacks got to get their bullpen up and going something Tory didn’t want to do but the lack of execution here has kind of invited the Jays back into this game here’s the one pitch and Kirk takes outside ball two two balls no strikes another very hitter friendly count here for this Blue Jay offense last inning in this I feel like we’ve been saying 20 way too many times and the pitch swung on grounded up the middle ferno and that’s going to bring home Guerrero another run scores for the Blue Jays the third of this inning and it’s now just a four-run game backs have done this to other teams already a couple times recently come back from big deficits and Kaplan out to no doubt give the bullpen time to get going but the last thing Tory wanted was have to use any potential leverage guy when you had a 9 to1 lead at one point but now it’s nine to five a home run in the seventh a three-run score here in the eighth four hits surrendered by Gfani and again I bet you can go back almost all of those hits came after Gavani just fell behind the importance of strike one just cannot be underscored enough now here is Springer and if he gets a hold of one it’s a brand new ball game stefani has already surrendered a pair of home runs in this ball game one one out one out of the bottom of the eighth and Springer swings grounds it right back to Dcliffani throws low to second catel scoops it for one throws to first for two and the fire is extinguished on a 143 inning ending double play jays get three we’ve played eight we go to the ninth it’s 95 every game night is a chance to go big with MLB big inning turn on baseball’s only nightly show that brings you the biggest conversation when you subscribe to the Arizona Sports YouTube channel arizona Sports 987 and the Arizona Sports app the local sports leader and the home of Arizona Diamondbacks baseball dbacks front office focus Wednesday mornings at 11:45 on Arizona Sports 987 and the Arizona Sports app pav Smith leads off dbags have a 9 to5 lead as we enter the ninth inning first pitch and Justin Brule’s fast ball missed inside for ball one the Blue Jays have scored four unanswered runs going to make it a game again as this pitch is outside and the Dbacks now have Shelby Miller up and throwing we kind of know the policy here four runs even though not a safe situation is a bit too close for comfort as the two pitch inside for ball three and now you’re really hoping the Dbacks can kind of add to it so that way they don’t have to bring Miller in this situation but the bullpen has not been very good beyond Mario here’s the three 0 pitch pin takes a strike now three and one pav’s had a three ball count every time except for when he hit that first pitch homer the 3-1 and he takes a second strike to fill up the count at three and two three balls two strikes nobody on here is paving trying to get the rally started and the 3-2 inside that’s a leadoff walk paving a board down for the third time today teams just have a problem throwing pave strikes not particularly the Blue Jays but a lot of teams recently even though the power hasn’t been there he finds himself in the benefit of a good count more often than not naylor now at the plate first pitch and that one missed inside both of these relievers have come in and DJ is not really executing their pitches one ball no strikes well now here comes Alejandro Kirk to knock things over with Justin Brule was so good just took him six pitches to get out of the eighth and right when the team comes back you need a shutdown inning tacks get a free pass now he’s falling behind Naylor we saw such a nice approach from Naylor yesterday two hits against the left-hander Lowour and I’m curious if he adopts that approach here just going to take a swing or two and really just let it fly left-hander Bul is ready and his one to Naylor swung on and missed that was an inside sinker one ball one strike he’s got to let it fly he’s got to catch up to his stolen bases who would have thought he’d get to 10 stolen bases before 10 home runs that ties his career high as this one won whoa over the head of Naylor breaking ball that slipped and it’s now two balls and a strike kirk trying to tell the umpire that that hit Naylor’s bat behind him and Naylor laughing it off not so fast buddy here’s a two-1 pitch nowhere close brule has just totally lost a field for all of his pitches it would seem it’s now three and one had a tough time facing backtoback lefties thought he’s out there for it he can’t find the breaking ball you figure it have been a onslaught of those here comes his 3-1 runner goes that is swung on and missed the throw to second is in time could be the first out and a bit of a head scratcher there for the Dbacks certainly and maybe you put him in motion 32 but he swings a pitch out of the zone what a throw by Kirk i mean that was on the money that pitch was out of the zone as well from Brew as the standard disengages actually time might have been called you can’t disengage with nobody on base shot stealing goes on that particular play two to six and now here is the payoff swinging a miss naylor down on strikes got to get that sinker in and get it twice successfully and he swung and missed at the sinker down and away and we’re going to get a pitching change I believe unorthodox way for Justin Brule to get the first two batters in this city called to the bullpen brought to you by Sanderson Ford best play to Newport to Sanderson four two outs top of the ninth nobody on forio Suarez when we come back it’s the Dbacks nine and moments in baseball have been broadcast on the radio since 1921 smith courts went into right down the line it may go crazy folks go crazy it’s a home run and the Cardinals have won the game by the three-2 and a home run by the Wizards catch the next unforgettable call on the MLB app and MLB.com take a hack at guessing which baseball player or manager said to follow i really don’t know what to say i’m just uh so happy I gave something these people cheer we all did i mean it was a great game both teams played incredible it was a great game that’s Mike Piaza after he hit an eighth inning go-ahead home run in the first New York Mets home game after 911 hear moments like this and more on the MLB app and MLB.com let’s see if you can figure out the following baseball slang term next phrase is oppo taco you know what it means [Music] oppo taco a home run hit to the opposite field austin with an oppo taco his 13th and it’s a one-run game expand your vocabulary by listening to every game on the MLB app and mlb.com brighter back skipper Tory Lavell talks with Burns and Gambo Friday afternoons at 2:30 on Arizona Sports 987 in the Arizona Sports app rookie right-hander Ray Fischer is facing Auano Suarez two outs nobody on and his first pitch blowing outside for ball one 15 outings 270 erra only is allowed three walks in 16 and two/3 innings while striking out 22 and now the 10 suarez takes loan outside for ball two two balls no strikes the wind has really picked up it’s been blustery it feels like for the last half of this game when you were on the mound how much did just the feeling of wind kind of affect you as there’s a swing and miss on the 200 pitch sometimes it feels like you’re unstable it’s blowing against you so you’re trying to do everything you can to hold against it and it depends if it’s throwing like right towards you you feel like you have to throw it 1,000 miles an hour to get it to home plate two-1 pitch suarez takes a breaking ball for a strike a curve ball from Fiser it’s now two and two suarez I mean he has just been cooking all day long three for four a triple shy of the cycle with four RBI’s and now the pitch blowing inside full count the knuckle ballers tell you they want a breeze coming at him it just holds that ball up really lets advance there’s 3-2 swing and a miss struck him out with a fast ball that’s going to do it for the Diamondbacks here in the ninth last chance for the Blue Jays they need four to tie it they need five to walk it off when we come back on the Morgan and Morgan DBEX radio network moments in baseball have been broadcast on the radio since 1921 smith Clarks went into right down tickets today at dbacks.com the Arizona Diamondbacks played here arizona Sports 987 and the Arizona Sports app a chance for a little redemption for Shelby Miller call of the bullpen brought to you by Sanderson Ford best play in a new Ford is at Sanderson Ford and Shelby on for his 31st appearance this year not a safe situation he’s got a 3-2 record of 217 erra and with the Dbacks in front 9 to5 he faces Andreas Himenez jimenez has been hit by a pitch in his last two trips to the plate he takes this one low and in for ball one bottom of the order 67 and eight here for the Jays as this one is right down the middle for a strike shelby suffered the loss on Tuesday night after allowing backto back jacks to Bette and Barger was the 1-1 blow two balls one strike to count the Dbacks who led it nine to one thought they probably could avoid using Shelby unfortunately Toronto got a run in the seventh and then three more in the eighth and now it’s too close for comfort the 2-1 swung on fouled back jimenez has a two-2 count so important you have to get the first guy don’t let the Blue Jays even get a glimpse of starting a rally also you got four hitters down here at the bottom to get through before turning it over to the top two balls two strikes miller he fires and Jimenez fouls it away it’s that double-edged sword and we talked about it right before the Dbacks had that incredible win against the Padres’s where obviously you want your best hitters up when you’re in a deficit but in order to get to the best hitters you’ve got to set the table if they do that Dbacks are going to be in a lot of trouble two- two pitch jimenez swings fouls it once again they count remains at two balls and two strikes just one split finger and maybe a little gunshy the last two splitties he threw here both left the park here’s the pitch missed inside to Shelby and they count full pull three balls two strikes right anders set here’s the payoff and Jimenez swings hits a towering popup foul first base side and no play for either Pav or Guerrero 32 again he was ready for a fast ball guessing it both home runs against Dfani were three ball counts where they sat on the pitch they wanted and didn’t miss ninth pitch of the at bat and here it is swing and a miss and Jimenez down on strikes completely changes the tenor of the ninth inning getting that out now you can really go to work settle in here get two quick outs get a win and then on to Colorado ernie Clement is 0 for three it’s into a double play back in the fifth inning first pitch Clement swings and misses and the down nothing and one our launch of the game inspired by Honeywell honeywell the future is what we make it give it to Pav Smith good to see him back on the home run wagon as the 01 fouled by Clement it’s nothing at two he got his sixth the season back in the fifth inning was two-run shot nothing at two on Clement nine to five Diamondbacks lead and the O2 pitch reached four and Pope fouled to the right haven just one for two today with a two-run homer two walks and an RBI sack fly miller ready comes the O2 pitch swung on crowded sharply to second it’s Marte who has it and throws to first that’s in time the Blue Jays down to their final out and it rests on the shoulders of the rookie Will Robertson marte positioned perfectly up the middle got a ball that kicked off the side of the mound right to him [Music] 95 Diamondbacks lead the first one to Robertson taken for strike one in our launch of the game by Honeywell honeywell the future is what we make it the one swing and a miss the counting at two couple options now that split finger down in the dirt he just swung at could elevate the fast ball but I think just throw something in the dirt again the O2 pitch swing and a miss struck him out that’s your ball game diamondbacks prevent the sweep and they win the finale by a final score of 9 to5 the offense really shined in this one and Ryan Nelson turned in a dominant starting pitching performance good to see the Diamondbacks respond after the tough loss last night they get ready to take on the Rockies once again your final BAX 9 Blue Jays 5 and Co and I will wrap it up after this on the Morgan and Morgan DBEX radio network on July 3rd and 4th enjoy fireworks spectacular shows at Chase Field presented by BRS secure your tickets to celebrate
