Behind the Battle 2024-25, Episode 8: Mom’s Trip 💙😊
okay um I’ve been uh been in the game a long time this is my first mom’s trip so I will try to not swear and I’ll try to not or I’ll try to be appropriate not inappropriate um but I’ll tell you that um I know dads get a lot of credit right dads get a lot of credit for how hard how skilled you the the kids are and how hard they work and I can tell you firsthand um from my mom and dad is that yeah my dad gave me some skill i didn’t have a lot of skill but my mom gave me heart drive desire grit all of that and the appreciation that you guys should all get that you’re up at 5 in the morning taking these little buggers to practice and dad’s off to work and and you’re the ones that are looking after them and wiping their noses and tying their skates and all that so the appreciation is is really high from obviously all of us carl is this your mom this my mom so there’s some things that we you guys could have gave your kids a little bit more like you could have taught him how to take a face off cuz he sucks at it so So you could have did that goody it’s your mom y so you got a mountain of a man right your son he’s massive he never plays why does he play like he’s all ripped up and then he never gets on the ice so it’ be nice if you could have created a guy that you know would play hockey and boom where’s your mom could you have instilled a work ethic please cuz he never works he never works right Mrs good job your son has helped us um in every aspect of of this year he taught us how to play the game because of his love and his joy and his passion for this game and I’ve only met him once but I know these guys he taught us how to play this game right and we talked a lot about team first and played for each other and I know when I spoke to him that was his main concern that’s all he cared about is that that we play as a team we’ve we’ve won a bit here we’ve had a bit of success we’re going to continue to do that because of your son has taught us that and he’s with us every single day and I’m so happy that you’re with us as well we all are thank you [Applause] [Music] you never left my heart okay my name’s Jane Gdro and my son’s John Gadro when I heard about it Eric had called me and asked me you know if I wanted to go you know I thought about it and talked to the girls and everyone said you know I think you should go and I’m so glad I did cuz it’s such a wonderful group of moms uh the players are wonderful they made me feel so you know at home and even the coaches everyone was like just so like supportive and so you know just wanted to make sure that I was okay and that was really comforting my name is Kila Mateek and my son is Denton he called about I don’t know I guess a month ago and he let me know about this trip and I said well do you want me to come he said well mom why do you think I’m calling you so honored to be here and it’s been so much fun getting to know some of the other moms and just having that time with Denton to be honest I I totally love the plane ride just sitting beside him and getting that time with him and then just being able to see him in this place that it’s amazing it is quite meaningful because uh in in most other instances don’t really get a lot of one-on-one time even when he’s home in the summer there’s you know he’s busy training it’s nice to just kind of you know finger on the pulse and see where he’s at and how he’s feeling and that kind of stuff there’s been some talk about dads versus the mom’s trips and wins versus losses so um we’re just we’re just here to have a good time and support the boys and uh yeah and come up with the W it’s time to put on your jackets tonight from Little Caesars Arena in Detroit Michigan the National Hockey League presents your Columbus Blue Jackets and the Detroit Red Wings get pucks behind their D and make them work okay engage physically early on and we compete our asses off for 60 minutes okay man the Red Wings sit just ahead of the Blue Jackets in the wild card standings in the Eastern Conference 64 points for Detroit 62 for the Blue Jackets believe me these points are huge comes in on the right side with the shot save is made the rebound cleared away red Wings still have it down low they score alex to Brinken it’s Detroit for the one to nothing lead now it’s Jenner on the right wing boards out from the blue line jake Christensen long shot and he scores that one tipped in front by JVR goes to Lebate and now Shawn Cari rambles to center cari along with Olivier and Lebate olivier a shot stopped rebound score 2-1 sean Carali what a job by the Blue Jag Center keeps it in the zone down to Jenner in the right wing corner back to Federal with a score and it’s KJ all day kent Johnson last guy to touch that puck to force him wide jenner behind the net puts it in front there’s JVR and he hammers it home the Blue Jackets with four unanswered puck is loose that is empty timing he got it carell Martinko what an effort to put it away tonight in Detroit [Music] [Music] guys great game great effort but I want to give it for first point in NHL first off thank you definitely want to get a big win for them um you know I don’t think we did last last time so um definitely want to you know makes the trip a little better when we can get a win for them so uh we owed them one from two years ago so um happy that uh they got to see that and I’m sure we’ll see them here soon you know it’s been a great trip for them so it’s it’s a special time for us to you know share this with them [Music]
