MLB LIVE🔴 St. Louis Cardinals vs Cincinnati Reds – Jun 21, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
hello baseball fans and welcome mlb the show has action out of the NL Central it’s the Cincinnati Reds taking on the St louis Cardinals all right we’ll be back to get this one started after this st lewis Cardinals [Applause] just about set to go and now here’s the starter for St louis Michael McGrevy well this guy’s just been filthy out there on the mound hitters batting under 200 against him and they’re just having a hard time squaring up anything doing any type of damage the only way he hurts himself is if he gives up the free passes and surrenders a rare home run but outside of that it’s going to be a tough job for the opposing lineup today all right ready to get underway in now for the Reds tj Freeway big swing and a miss [Applause] battling here as he fouls it away fast ball is outside really good take especially with two strikes foul ball still a one and two count i wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball try to go again with a fast ball slightly elevated he just having a hard time catching up went back to the fast ball and it was effective and now it’s Gavin Lux definitely scuffling at the dish lately barely hitting over the Mendoza line this month out in front with the swing and that is strike one mccrevy a 6’4 righty 220 lbs a former first round pick in 2021 and a pinch swing and a miss chased it out of the zone big time gem right there i hate it as a hitter but standing in center field you can’t help but chuckle a little bit cut on and lifted in the air and that’ll fall for a base hit so a man aboard now with one away batting third short stop Ellie de la Cruz ellie de la Cruz at the dish he’s a guy who could fill up a scorecard everyone stops what they’re doing when this guy’s at the dish he’s a dream player for fans and he’s down 02 as he swings through it with the count one ball in the dirt but kept close [Applause] [Applause] hacks and misses it’s a strike out and Chris that’s a way to neutralize his speed by keeping him off base and the defense breathes a sigh of relief because he puts pressure on everyone if he can put the ball in play but that’s how you do it keep him off balance get him out of there and deal with the next guy and now the catcher comes up to him tyler Stevenson that one misses ball one ball one no strikes let’s go Michael and it’s fouled away lux off of first with two away now one miss two next offering misses down and away three balls one strike that one fouled off great RBI spot here just got to stay focused on the pitch the runner will be in motion so something in the gap should definitely score it there’s a line drive to left field and it’s into the gap lux coming home he’ll score fires the second too late and he’s got a double well that worked out as good as it could have we mentioned the RBI opportunity with the runner moving on the 3-2 pitch and he cashed in by finding a hole in the outfield you know that takes a little extra concentration in the box because of the movement on the base pass easy to get distracted so that was a really nice job there so up next Spencer Steer on the ground right side dives but it kicks off his glove no throw and the defense comes away with nothing righter Will Benson [Music] now here is Will Benson [Applause] that one finds the zone and that is strike one this might be the most pressure you put on this guy today you got one run in you got to try to get another one or maybe two [Applause] up the middle base hit and a run comes in well done drives in the run just a simple soft liner in the center field for the knock right there maybe a little bit fooled by the pitch but he did a good job of staying through it and that allowed him to fight it off and just get enough behind it so digging in Christian and Carnosion Strand [Applause] first pitch and he just misses well he’s just given up three straight hits and now behind in this count to this hitter might be a good time for somebody to call a timeout maybe the pitching coach to go out there and talk to him just a little bit two outs fought off foul well they’re really running up the pitch count in this first inning lots of confidence from this team that is perhaps the hottest in baseball right now that’s inside good spot for the hitter definitely has the advantage in this count with runners on look for him to be aggressive on this next pitch [Applause] fouls one off two and two [Applause] keeps the bat going with a foul ball and it goes just fouled laboring here about to throw his 30th pitch of the inning got it and he’s registered three Ks in this one so it’s two runs on four hits no errors and a couple left on bottom half of inning number one coming up it’s the Reds two and the Cardinals coming up back here in St louis and towing the slab here Lion Richardson and Singi we were talking earlier about how he’s doing a great job navigating through tough spots i’ve just been so impressed with when it seems like there’s more pressure he’s more calm and settles in he’s done an incredible job with runners in scoring position most guys they get a little tight they start to aim the baseball but for some reason he gets looser the ball comes out of his hand with more life and he’s able to wiggle off the hook of you know tough situations and get his team back in the dugout brendan Donovan the leadoff batter as he looks at ball one next offering is fouled back the 1-1 is fouled off breaking ball misses down and away recognize that change up right out of the hand just spit on it and it remains two and two cuts and misses it’s a strike out boi just ran out of patience there he took a couple of pitches to even that count off two balls and two strikes but that time chased outside the zone here comes Wilson Contreras ball on there [Applause] one down base is empty and that’s in for a strike up and in two and one that one missing inside into center and a base hit just kind of slice that one into center batting third first base Alec Burlson next up for the Cardinals i’m liking what I’ve seen from him at the dish lately working on a fivegame hitting streak not even close there and it’s one and0 [Applause] let’s go the kick and the pitch runner goes cut out and miss throw save i know may have made the difference right there it’s kind of hard to say though it’s a little tougher for a catcher with a left-handed hitter in the box and that hitter does not have to move at all to help you out he just got under the throw and it took off on him a little bit man at second swung on popped up left side espenol moves under it two down batting here’s a Cardinal lineup now a really frustrating showing for them in their last game lots of traffic on the bases but they left a ton of runners on base couldn’t cash in their chances chris they had plenty of chances there’s nobody to blame it on but themselves offensively they just did a poor job converting in those situations you have to figure out what’s your plan going to be maybe watch some tape from the last game make the adjustment so if you get those opportunities in this one you’ve got a much better chance of scoring some runs nolan Aronado in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike on the ground dela Cruz tosses to first and they get Aronado for the out third out and that ends the frame so one left for the Cardinals they trail it here two nothing back here in St louis all set for the start of the inning here’s the third base santiago Espol mcgrevy back to work there’s the strike singi wasn’t very sharp in the first got hit around a little bit just wasn’t able to locate particularly well a lot of stuff for the fat part of the plate yeah Boo he wasn’t fooling anyone it’s a tough place to be cuz it’s not always obvious what adjustments need to be made sometimes it’s location sometimes it’s being too predictable sometimes you’re tipping your pitches he’s going to need to figure it out quickly though second base Matt Mlan so a man aboard next for Cincinnati Matt Mlan and that drops in for a strike called strike right there well he didn’t like those first two pitches now in an 02 hole he’s going to have to battle hope he gets a mistake espenol gets his lead at first with nobody out ball one that misses the zone and the count’s even at two and that one popped in the air left field nuke Bar moves under it hauls it in for the out now batting the center fielder TJ Fredle here’s the center fielder TJ Fedel his first at bat was a strike out runner down the kick and the pitch runner goes strike in there throw to second not in time he’s there easily you know having a good lead is so key when you’re stealing bases even if you’ve got great speed but if you don’t have great speed but can get an extended lead and a good jump you can steal bases on a catcher who can really throw it that’s a nice job right there hard hit to third in plenty of time to first two down now batting designated hitter Gavin Lux gavin Lux the next to hit for the Reds one for one with a single so far that one finds the zone strike one well I know they’ve gotten out to an early lead but you don’t want to take these opportunities for granted with two outs still lock in with a quality at bat drive in that run you may not have another runner in scoring position the rest of this ball game swaging a ball hit out towards left center field nuke snags it on the run so one left for Cincinnati but they’re on top two nothing and welcome back to the ballpark ready to go for the last half of the inning now on for St louis Lars Nuke Nuke the wine of the pitch check swing he held up and that’s ball one really close pitch down around the knees there and you could see him asking where it missed probably doesn’t agree but it appears he’s ready to move on to the next pitch right through there for a strike gary Simmons our played umpire today sort of has a reputation as a pitcher umpire yeah a little bit of a wider zone than most I’d say and a wide zone can be tough to deal with as a hitter cuz you have to start expanding what you’re looking for covering both sides and with the stuff pitchers have today you’re just not going to have a lot of success lead off man retired here in the second daddy six second baseman Nolan Gorman here’s Nolan Gorman [Applause] [Music] close one doesn’t get the call and that’s ball one that one called just inside I think and on the mound he’s trying to get a little bit of an explanation doesn’t seem to be too bothered by it though but he clearly thought it clipped the corner that’s way outside and now two and 0 [Music] in today’s game not that many fast ball counts but hitters still in the back of their minds they’re looking for one two change up call right there excellent pitch selection to go with late on that fast ball ooh Baya you got to remember to take the donut off the bat partner strike him out looking called strike three and a fast ball up in the zone no just couldn’t pull the trigger on the fast ball right there and I don’t think he was taking it thinking it might be a cold ball or anything i just think he was flat out frozen did not expect that location in my opinion pedro Pah stands in now and watches strike one two outs base is empty on the ground to third throws across the diamond three up three down inning over redbirds down quietly they trail things here two nothing top half of the third inning and ready to hit now for Cincinnati ellie Dylan Cruz swing and a ground ball and that one gets through into center field so a runner aboard to start the inning wastes no time there just kept it simple played Pepper with the middle of the infield and took it back where it came from and there was just no one there to knock it down and now they’ve got some speed on first so we’ll see if they try to get him into motion and here is Tyler Stevenson and downstairs Dela Cruz on at first nobody out ground ball left side could be two throws to second for one back to first and that is a double play they made that double play look so easy but it was far from routine that’s the one thing about big leagers they make tough plays look simple now the left fielder Spencer Steer reached on an infield single his first time just missed inside almost got him ball three he hasn’t fallen behind in the count like this all day he’s in danger of walking his first batter right here there’s the strike and the count is three and one that’s ball four tried another fast ball but missed the spot one of the things about that two out walk the base runner over at first base is going to have a very aggressive secondary lead so a ball down the line or into the gap will produce a two out RBI and those are the best that is if you are the offensive side of it benson in the box now no balls in a strike run around to go pitch in for a strike throw to second and out there and that ends the inning the catcher definitely looked ready for that stolen base attempt got in position quickly and a strike down to second base to end the inning bottom of the inning now it’s the short stop Jose Barrerero short stop jose Barrerero lifted in the air right center field benson on his way over he’s got it and there’s one down that’s just a really nice catch on the run right there he’s saved extra bases for sure if the pitcher’s his friend he’ll give him a second to catch his breath before he’s ready to deal the next pitch victor Scott next up for the Cardinals and first offering is fouled off swings through that one man that was pretty gross right there [Music] chases the change up in the dirt stevenson to first and it beats him for out number two that’s a strikeout he came out of his mechanics there typically likes to shoot the ball the other way but that time little anxious donovan back to the leadoff spot in the St louis lineup brendan Donovan next up for the Cardinals just missed 10 ball two well he looks more focused at the plate and working the count after that first at bat strikeout hit the air right field that one way back there and that is way gone he made him pay for that one it’s 2-1 he absolutely feasts on right-handed pitching and devours that one for a homer and you can see that’s what he expects of himself at that accurate bat he’s that confident so Singy this is a little bit of a surprise a guy known for line drives one over the fence well if you’re a little too early you’ll get some elevation in the ball game ballpark for him it’s kind of a mistake but you know what when you have such a good approach every now and then you’re going to run into one two outs nobody on now it’s going to be Wilson Contrarus and first offering is fouled off [Applause] he swings and fouls one off and that’s outside two strikes two down base is empty but one run across here in the last half of the third next pitch misses way outside [Applause] and that’s downstairs and outside he should get a pretty good pitch to hit here with the three-hole hitter coming up if he’s walked and Wilson down on strikes cardinals do get one back on the solo blast and it’s now a two-1 ball game you’re watching Major League Baseball on the show and we’re back john Shami with Chris Singleton and set to lead off the fourth Will Benson get out of here Reds all right Cardinal and there’s a foul ball well these Reds doing a great job Boo of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way and I’m seeing very patient at bats out of them they’re doing a good job of working the pitch count and they’ve been able to push a couple of runs across to score as well andy that’s foul off to the right side keeps the AB going still relatively early but with a pair of runs already on the board the ripple effect of that high pitch count might set him up to do more damage later in this game in the air left field down the line and no one can get to it it’s a foul ball swing and a miss struck him out pretty simple plan of attack on the mound right there huh yeah nothing but fast balls they just kept putting down the number one and letting it fly i like it yeah me too and I’d love to hit against that but of course when you’re in the box you think he’s bound to change speeds on you at some point you’re just kind of locked up sort of like reverse psychology christian and Carnosion Strand the next to hit for the Reds and there’s a hit so they get a man aboard with a one-out single now batting third baseman Santiago Espol now the third baseman Santiago Espol and he’s already singled in this game squirts away a little bit [Music] and he chases a high fast there moved into the bullpen for the Cardinals matthew Liberator the young lefty looks to be getting himself ready gray getting cranked up as well the 1-1 slice to right and foul ball [Music] on its way to the corner and he can’t quite get there it’s a foul ball man at first one away finish him got him looking that’s a strike out well definitely a borderline pitch right there and he didn’t look too convinced as he headed back to the dugout no those are tough ones to let go as a hitter but with a human umpire calling balls and strikes it’s always going to be on you to protect yourself with two strikes in now for the Reds matt Mlan flyed to left his first time that misses ball one encardion Strand leads off first with two down of the inning come on rip to right he’s got it and that’ll do it reds leave one they lead it 2-1 bottom of the fourth and now the first baseman Alec Burlson alec Burlington and here it comes and that misses ball one you know these Cardinals just lacking discipline at the plate in this ball game so many of their outs have come from weak contact on pitches they’re chasing outside of the strike zone you can’t do much of anything with those locations and that’s been true again today and the breaking ball drops in for a strike and as a pitcher when the hitters are swinging at everything you feel no need to challenge inside the zone you just keep working the corners and expanding that strike zone and beyond and they just keep eating right out of your hand [Applause] that one misses so a lead off walk thought he tried to nibble right there and just missed his spot hitter didn’t offer at it now he has somebody to worry about over at first so now it’s Dolan Aronado [Applause] that clips the zone one he’s pitching well but not throwing a ton of first pitch strikes usually doesn’t work out for success but you can never predict baseball this one belted deep left field on its way down a two-run blast and they take the lead it’s 32 listen to these fans this place is absolutely buzzing right now you can feel the energy all the way up here in our broadcast booth [Applause] when you have a team that hits home runs at such a high rate they can get back in the ball game so quickly that’s why that leadoff walk was extremely costly [Applause] here’s the left fielder Lars Nbar that one’s in there strike one newbar goes 6′ 3 in 205 lbs and he was drafted in the eighth round back in 2018 next offering is fouled back on the ground of first and Kardashian Strand he steps on the bag one out in the bottom of the fourth good fade and sinking action of that change up got that hitter to roll over and stepping in for the Cardinals Nolan Gorman [Applause] [Applause] there’s a strike still only one out here in the inning next offering is in for a strike no balls two strikes [Applause] fouled off and they’ll do it again [Applause] swings through it and that’s a strike out now batting two down base is empty pedro Pah next up for the Cardinals rounded out his first time up and that drops in for a strike [Applause] and that’s a little bit high one and one i got one ball one strike [Applause] headed down the line and that’s a foul ball [Music] bouncer to second mlan inning over two runs for St louis on this blast it’s now a 32 ball game you’re watching Major League Baseball on the show back here at Bush Stadium ready now for the fifth inning now here’s the Red’s leadoff man TJ Fredel mcgrevy back to work in the air right side donovan calls it in and there’s one away well you got to give him credit out there on the mound this outing started off a little shaky but he’s found a way to settle in and turn this into a pretty good start kind of shows you a lot about his mental makeup as a pitcher here comes the manager out of the Cardinals dugout and he’ll make a move to the pan michael McGrevy won’t go any further and he had to battle nothing came easy in this start but he leaves with a lead new arm when we get back on the mound now Matthew Liberator this southpaw’s been really good against left-handed hitters liberator and now the designated hitter for the Reds Gavin Lux one for two and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter well that’s really the money spot down and away if you can locate that consistently it’s going to be real tough for hitters to square that up that’s what you love to see relievers do coming out of that bullpen in the air left field nuke bar calls it in and there’s two away now batting shorts stop Ellie Dea Cruz ellie Dea Cruz the next to hit for the Reds a switch hitter batting right and first offering is fouled off two down nobody on and we’re in the top of the fifth pitch misses or ball one strike the shorts stop takes the ball nasty back door slider there’s really nothing you can do with that if you swing at it so it’s a good take by him now he breaks his bat pah makes the grab and that’s the inning reds down in order and it’s still a 32 ball game back here in St louis we head to the bottom of the fifth here’s the shorts stop at the plate jose Morero turned on but foul wide of third [Applause] comes up empty that’s strike two and two upstairs i don’t think he was trying to miss by that much in an 02 count just tried to overthrow that the next offering misses ball two slow roller to third espol tosses to first and the leadoff hitter retired in the fifth deceptive slider right there stayed in the tunnel a long time got that hitter out front rolled over it put it on the ground and now the center fielder Victor Scott he’s 0 for one and there’s a ball the Cincinnati bullpen has some movement andrew Abbott up and throwing for Terry Francona martinez a right-hander loosening up as well one down base is empty missed with a change up and the count now two and nothing this one in the air center field fredel makes the grab and there’s two gone now batting right fielder so the lineup flips over brendan Donovan next up for the Cardinals he’s already homered here in this one and there’s a strike on the outside corner fouled off to the right [Music] and that one upstairs ball one cut out and miss struck him out and it’s a three up three down inning one two three go the Cardinals and it remains a 3-2 ball game top of the sixth inning here’s the catcher Tyler Stevenson [Applause] and that one fouled off [Applause] just missed action in the St louis bullpen kyle Ley up and throwing king also getting ready that’s in there and the count is one and two that one missed two strikes [Applause] next pitch off the play full countdown spencer Steer in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here here comes a 3-2 swings and misses struck him out chase the basketball up the ladder for strike three that was a pretty good pitch top of the strike zone we’re seeing more fast balls in that location hitters especially with two strikes have to be ready to pull the trigger now the left fielder Spencer Steer first offering and it just misses [Music] you see the velocity 97 with that fast ball that one way inside straighten him up a little bit one out base is empty swinging a foul straight back towards first slides but it gets by him well a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle we saw the numbers coming into the ball game but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win and now the right fielder Will Benson and first pitch fast is in for a strike with the go ahead run at the plate and we’re the top half of the sixth next offering misses and one and one here comes the pitch runner breaks for second there’s the ball throw to second and he’s out wow oh he just showed right there why he’s known for having one of the best arms one of the elite arms in the league man that runner had a big lead at first base you usually don’t get thrown out but this guy is such a great thrower that’s pretty amazing right there two down to swinging a miss it’s two and two going to really need to hang in there with that front side against this left-handed breaking ball [Applause] up the middle and it falls and that keeps the inning alive now batting the first base Christian Strand pitch misses there and that is ball one well with the tying run at first base he’s looking for something he can get a lot of barrel on drive it into a gap and score that run from first base benson off of first with two away [Music] and that’s outside two balls no strikes when the skipper calls down to the bullpen he’s expecting the guy to come in and get outs so far not getting what he was hoping for two outs that one’s spoiled and the count now two and one foul ball there strike him out knocks that one away and we’ll do it again he hasn’t gotten the result yet but he’s got to feel pretty confident three foul balls in a row he’s right on this pitcher runner on the go got him looking and he did not like the call so no runs two hits no errors and one left on base 234 two up in the home half of the six it’s the Cardinals three and the Reds two back now for the bottom of the sixth and there’s a new pitcher on the mound Nick Martinez and he’s been hit pretty hard at times this year so he’s looking for better right now giving up more than a hit per inning here’s Contrarus now for the Cardinals designated hitter Wilson Contrarus on the ground to the left and it stays fair alec Burlson next up for the Cardinals [Applause] swings and misses that’s strike one activity in the bullpen for the Reds taylor Rogers up and throwing for Terry Francona barlo the right-hander also getting loose let’s go swing and a highf fly ball that’s out to center no trouble here puts it away for the out and there’s one away now batting third baseman Nolan Aronado here’s Nolan Aronado he had a big swing back in the fourth a two-run homer and that helped them get the lead and what a swing it was boo poetry in motion and those are the type that you hardly feel when you connect with the baseball just so smooth a great feeling off the bat in the air left side steer going back on this one pulls it down and there’s two gone up next for the Cardinals left fielder so two down now and here is Lars Nbar has grounded out a couple of times started to swing held up pitches in for a strike and a count even one and one [Music] inside just missed next offering is fouled back we got full count so now two on and two outs not what he wanted to do right there boo that keeps this inning alive puts a runner in the scoring position and a chance for this offense to add on to their lead nolan Gorman next up for the Cardinals who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts [Music] and that’s him for a strike two on two outs [Music] and that is out of play two on two outs in the air right field benson in position makes the grab and that’ll do it so the Cards strand a couple but they’re up three to two now pitching welcome back we’re in the seventh we have a new pitcher on the mound kyle Le2 well the best relievers love the opportunity to come in and protect a tight lead late in the ball game some of them are just wired different so we’ll see what he’s got here well one-run game and ready to hit now for Cincinnati santiago Espino swinging a foul back and that’s out of play [Music] looking to get the tying run on base and ball one [Applause] gets a piece there we’ll do it again had a breaking ball misses outside there and that misses off the outside edge matt Mlan in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here [Music] and a pop up right side foul territory has room and he makes the catch matt Mlan the next to hit for the Reds bowl for two in this one and a foul ball look out that ball was smoked man I am so relieved that they have this netting down the line just to ensure safety for the fans last thing as a player you want to look up and see a fan get there to hold a one-run lead here in the top half of inning number seven yeah that skips into there chases in the dirt slider there catcher has it fires to first and there’s two gone following the strikeout you know V you often think of sliders more for that horizontal movement but most of the good ones have both vertical depth and that horizontal movement and that’s what we saw right there a good drop on the break and got him to swing over the top oh what a stop to first and that’s a great play for the Owl well that right there was all pre- pitch positioning put himself in the perfect spot to make a great play and welcome back to the ballpark set for the last half of the seventh and here’s the catcher Pedro Pahes ground ball left side jumps throws and very nicely done for the out now batting the shortstop Jose Barrero and now the shorts stop jose Barrero the shortstop takes a ball martinez goes 6’1 he features a fourseam fast ball a change up a cutter a two seamer and he occasionally uses a curve lifted in the air right field Benson moving in on this one he’s got it and there’s two away now batting center fielder Victor Scott two outs base is empty victor Scott next up for the Cardinals this guy can absolutely fly i think one of the faster players in baseball that one finds the zone it’s 0 and one two down to that one pulled foul man this has been a real important inning in relief i mean so far they’ve been doing a great job holding that deficit at one foul ball still 0 and two clearly trying to stay back a little bit longer for that change up as he fells that fast ball back swaging a ball hit out towards left center field and that will fall and that keeps the inning going really nice job of two strike hitting in that at bat he got that front foot down and pitch recognition was on point pretty impressive for an 02 count so up next Brendan Donovan he blasted one out earlier in the third just a solo home run but an important swing of the bat in this game we’ve already seen him do it once can he do it again now move to first scott dives back in safely that one’s in there that’s strike one well if he’s going to steal second you want him to go early in the count that way he’s not a distraction to the hitter at the plate go ahead and get Ruer takes off that’s in for a strike throw a save that’s a stolen base [Applause] scott on it second with two down the next pitch misses going to count one and two [Music] swings through it for the K pulled the string of the change up no runs one hit no errors and a man left we look ahead to inning number eight it’s the Cardinals three and the Reds two welcome back and a new arm on the mound to start the eighth john King these are the spots relievers really make a name for themselves late and close there’s not much margin for error but at the same time there’s a reason they’re put in these situations stepping in Gavin Lux one for three gavin Lux [Applause] that’s a little bit low move into the bullpen for the Cardinals brian Hley appears to be getting loose and a strike on the outside corner and the count one and one there’s the strike and a foul ball he stays alive [Applause] not close with that one now two and two outside with a breaking ball ellie Dea Cruz in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here hanging in there pretty good against the lefty [Applause] and the tying run is on base what a battle it’s not always easy laying off a 3-2 pitch and I tell you what he earned that ball substitution being made at first and here’s the pinch runner Garrett Hson so digging in Ellie Dea Cruz h if you don’t get ahead in the count you can forget about having any success against him first offering misses badly for ball one this is one of those situations the infielders have to pre-plan and understand that the ball’s got to be hit extremely hard right at them if they’re going to have a chance to go for a double play with a tying run on at first and we’re in the top of the eighth bounding ball here rolls foul with two strikes may see some movement over there at first base trying to stay out of the double play right here here’s a one two little bit low man oh man i don’t know how you take that pitch that’s as close as it gets [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] just off the outside corner three and two now these first two hitters really making him work out there already 14 pitches this inning gets a piece and stays alive well this is a good time to step out of the box take a deep breath reset couple of change ups probably won’t see another one here and it’s fouled off they’ll do it again [Applause] and ball four to a board walks out of the bullpin can absolutely kill your momentum very quickly they’re in some hot water trying to protect this lead first and second no outs tyler Stevenson the next to hit for the Reds pitter’s got some good opposite field power what I like about something being hit to the right side into the outfield is that the base runner at second has a very good read and can determine whether or not he can score on that base hit tap foul at the plate he’s gone off speed he needs to elevate here with two strikes out of the zone [Applause] on the ground two ball ferrero to second and they get him easily at first it’s a double play oh man what a smooth double play that was a thing of beauty from start to finish [Applause] here comes a manager out of the Cardinals dugout and he’ll make a move to the pan john King done for the afternoon and he leaves in a one-run game new pitcher coming on we’ll be back in a minute so they bring on their closer in the eighth Ryan Hley big swing and miss stuff right here boo averaging more than one strike out per inning this season so far he’s been pretty electric ryan Spencer Steer will hit next that’s a strike and it’s 0 and one so after the double play he’s trying to pick up his teammate and tie this game [Applause] check Swain he went too far and it’s a strike gets a piece and it stays 0 and two that wasn’t an easy pitch to hit it’s much easier to do damage against mistakes but that’s not what that pitch was [Applause] off the mark there one and two to count and that’s awfully close i don’t know how you take that he’s seeing the ball out of the pitcher’s hand really well right now [Applause] two outs that’s ball two two balls two strikes [Applause] [Music] [Applause] and a swing and a miss huge strike out there he’s in a tough spot had to make a great pitch did it got the strike out gets out of the jam clearly he’s happy with those results back here in St louis out of the bottom of the eighth contras now up to the plate and contrast martinez back to work lunges for it but can’t make the catch alec Burlson next up for the Cardinals that’s a bullet but it goes foul and a strike in there a change up missing now one and two excellent arm action on that two strike change up just missed man he wanted that call nobody out runner at first set down on strikes not sure about that call pitcher might have gotten a friendly strike three well that’s the kind of call strike out that just drives you crazy man as you know an opposite side hitter you see that pitch coming in from that arm angle you can tell just how far it is away and you give up on the pitch well that was clearly away as it finished off the plate and man that’s got to be frustrating here’s Nolan Aronado he’s already homered in this game line to left center field and that’s going to fall for a hit quick throw back in lead runner holds it second with one gone and now it’s going to be Lars Nuke fast ball for a strike [Music] swings and misses and it’s nothing at two two is the count ball one there one ball two strikes that’s off the mark and the count is even two and two y and there’s the ball this point in the game you cannot issue free passes he’s going to have to challenge this hitter hitter’s got to be ready to swing it and he grounds one back up the middle oh great stop flips it from the ground that’s one to first not in time great effort there well an aggressive slide at second base but it was legal i like it because you’re trying to break up the double play and it looked like the slide impacted the throw a little bit nice job by the base runner now the Red’s manager is out of the dugout and will make a move to the pen nick Martinez done for the day and the line not closed on him yet as he’s responsible for the runners on base back with a new pitcher after this now pitching new arm out of the bullpen in Jab and as relievers go he’s not a big strikeout guy tries to force weak contact so command and execution are huge for him and up next for St louis Nolan Gorman 0 for three in this one gorman and the first pitch misses for ball one well this is a critical spot for both the pitcher and the hitter you can learn a lot about a guy by how he handles these pressure situations there’s your strike 95 of that one and he gets that fast ball by him upstairs it might be time to choke up a little bit get that front foot down early maybe even just spread out he’s really late right now back foot slider ties him up struck him out new inning getting started and now Will Benson will Benson [Applause] and that’s in for a strike four and one man 91 on the slider right there that’s a hard one that’s a lowend fast ball for some pitchers [Applause] [Music] [Applause] and there’s a hit and a good start to the inning always feels amazing getting the job done when the team needs you to come through it’s just bigger than your own individual stats pretty good spot hard and inside but that’s a perfect example of keeping your hands inside the ball tight to the body the ability to take that back up the middle shows his approach is to use the entire field and now let’s see if they force some action with good wheels on the bases and Kardashian Strand in the box here lets that one go for a ball [Applause] swaging a chopper throws the first in time now one gone in the ninth those plays can be tricky they’re routine but that doesn’t mean it’s always going to be smooth he delivered a good play right there he’s two outs away here’s the third baseman Santiago Espino well comfortable or not these are the situations closers they seem to live for i mean you get into some hot water a jam tough spot whatever you want to call it but this is where they earn their keep that one in triple digits just amazing to me how many closers and backend relievers just throw absolute gas these days i never would have had a chance [Applause] way outside and now it’s even one and one [Applause] in the air pretty deep out to center field scott has this one sized up hauls it in for the out now batting second base Matt Mlan so it’s their last chance in this one next for Cincinnati Matt Mlan trying to deliver as the hero [Applause] pull one no this one kicks away a little as he can’t squeeze it to third t got him and that ends the ball game the tying run left stranded at second well at this point of the year first day of the summer teams are really starting to figure out who they are no more excuses about cold weather or any inclement conditions now I think we’ll start to see what this team is really made of as we move forward 32 the final score they hang on to win it by a run for Chris Singleton and our entire crew here at MLB The Show thanks for stopping by i’m John Shami talk to you soon
