We May Never See This Again

after the clinic that the Panthers put on in game five to put the Oilers on the brink they had the opportunity to win back-to-back Stanley Cups at home and keep the best player on the planet ringless for the second year in a row We are witnessing NHL history with this modern-day dynasty So how did the Panthers put on one final master class to shut down Edmonton and what does this mean for the entire league moving forward well let’s take a deeper look Now biggest thing for the Oilers to start game six is they got to score first You can’t be chasing against the Cats and they actually come out strong But like usual Officer Bob like he’s done all series long steadies the ship early Then hits the fan for the oil Look at Echol here He’s had it rough the last few games He’s definitely battling through an injury But look at this DDD pass but he must think this is Nom because he sends an absolute grenade into the shin pads of Buchard That puts him in a brutal spot to handle this puck Bousard is also a little bit too lazy fair And here comes Samson Reinhardt Ekkome goes to pressure right away and Reinhardt says “You reach I teach fella.” Whoop learns a thing or two from the rack king in game five Ekholm turns to dust Backhand forehand and Reinhardt beats Skinner on a ridiculous effort to take a one- nothing lead That right there is a shining example of how one tiny mistake can snowball into a disaster in a matter of seconds No bueno if you’re the Oilers as once again they fail to score first and are chasing the game Deja vu and the nightmare doesn’t stop there for the Oilers All series long after all of our breakdowns we’ve talked about how there’s absolutely zero room in the neutral zone for Conor McDavid and Leon Dry settle to cook in this series The gaps of Florida are just suffocating and Edmonton is at their best when they get controlled entries So they’re doing everything in their power to inflict their game on Florida Except that’s not as easy as it sounds So first Dry Settle wins a 50/50 puck along the wall and then is just smothered right away with pressure in his face He tries to bump it to McDavid and of course there’s someone right there too to just shut that down Attempt number one is stuffed Okay so Edmonton goes back for more and tries to make a play at the blue line Again though they’re just meant with a fantastic step up at the line to create a turnover So now here comes Florida on the counter Not so dangerous with that being a two-on-ree but again it’s these tiny mistakes that can snowball into a disaster And it starts with the Reed off the rush Bashard takes the man driving to the net Dry Sidle is going to cover the trailer but the miscommunication between Wman and McDavid ends up costing them They both converge on the puck carrier McDavid gets caught over bat checking a tiny bit That leaves Kachchuck wide open top cheese and it’s two nothing right at the end of the period which is just a dagger Edmonton has now allowed two or more first period goals in every single game of this cup final That is not good enough Aside from that too I thought Babski was lights out in period one when he needed to be Not a ton of chances for Edmonton but they did have some clean looks and Bob just calmly turned it away In the second period it was more of the same The Panthers look like Edmonton cooking off the rush Edmonton still can’t get anything going themselves And then things go from bad to worse Verhagy throws a floater from Pluto and Skinner just doesn’t control it It bounces off of his blocker right to Barov He Adam banks it in off of Reinhardt and it’s 3 nothing late in the second period Time is ticking and the reality is setting in for the Oilers They now have 20 more minutes to try and avoid a repeat of last year but the wall is too damn strong And one guy I want to highlight who’s been unbelievable in this series is Gustaf Forsling Mashed up against McDavid pretty much every single game There is no other defender in the world who can seemingly keep up with the raw speed of McDavid like he can The way he was able to close gaps and keep 97 in check was just incredible And in game six it was no different Every time McDavid stepped on the ice Forsling was the wet blanket that suffocated him and Dry Cidle all series long With seven minutes left and Edmonton not being able to generate a thing the Oilers pull the tendy and Sam Reinhardt gets the Hattie for the empty netter to officially seal this game He did get another one later for his fourth goal of the night but the clock winds down and history repeats itself The Florida Panthers are backto back Stanley Cup champs while the Edmonton Oilers and their fans are stuck experiencing a nightmare that they just can’t wake up from Gary Bman hands out the Cons trophy playoff MVP goes to Sam Bennett Bennett the menace was unbelievable all playoff long 15 goals most road goals in NHL playoff history with 13 and every goalie’s worst nightmare Most feared elbow in the playoffs and a hell of a hockey player Captain Sasha Barov lifts the cup up for the second year in a row when the Panthers decide to let all the players who hadn’t won it yet get the first skate around with the cup Three straight finals appearances back-to-back championships and all the makings of a modern-day dynasty Now to give you an idea of how dominant they were in these finals and all throughout the playoffs just look at this plus 38 goal differential They led for 51.4% of total game time and 61% in the Stanley Cup final They’re 10 and three on the road They closed out the first three rounds on the road and they had six 20 plus point scorers And when you think about what this means for the league it will if it hasn’t already fundamentally change both how teams play and how they will be constructed moving forward The NHL is a copycat league but teams will try to emulate the Florida model as much as possible From their overwhelming forche to their unmatched depth the Panthers are the standard of the league The run that the state of Florida is on when it comes to hockey domination is something we may never see again And I know the state tax advantage will be a hot topic But I still remember the Stevie Weiss and Oolie Yoken days in Florida They were a joke And Bill Zto along with the entire franchise has changed the culture completely and have now made it the destination to come play hockey Now on the other side is the Edmonton Oilers Conor McDavid and Leon Dryettidle may never get a good night’s sleep again knowing that there’s a possibility that they may not reach the cup final yet again It’s so hard to get back to that point And unfortunately I now believe that Cory Perry is also cursed cuz this guy has lost five cup finals in the last 6 years No wonder he’s 800 years old All those losses are aging the man rapidly But the Oilers as a whole do have a ton of decisions to make The first thing is that everyone’s going to look towards solving the goalie position Skinner is either prime carry price or a glorified shooter tutor And I think the inconsistency of his play is something that Edmonton will want to address going into next year The whole juggling act of going between your backup and starter in the cup finals isn’t ideal and it’s something that they’ll likely address in the offseason However the bottom line wasn’t just Stuart Skinner Just from top to bottom the Panthers are deeper And as a team they execute better than anyone I’ve ever seen As the series went on the Oilers became more and more reliant on the McDryidle combo than their overall depth It just shows you how important a team is over individual talent The two best players on planet Earth couldn’t get a sniff because they were met by an unstoppable team In hockey there’s only so much a few superstars can do It takes 18 skaters every night to win and the Panthers showed that firsthand Now there’s also a lot of major moves to be addressed as well for Edmonton McDavid can get an extension on July 1st Evan Bousard is an RFA and only six players are under contract beyond next season As for McDavid and his legacy the pressure of being the best player to maybe ever touch the ice and still be missing the ultimate goal of a Stanley Cup is just a tough pill to swallow I don’t doubt that McDavid can make it back for another crack at a cup but there is a possibility that we may never see it again And that makes this loss all the more devastating for the Oilers their fans and McDavid himself So what did you think of the cup final and the season as a whole what’s next for both of these teams are the Panthers officially a dynasty let us know your thoughts in the comments down below Also the season is over but we’re going We break down game 6 between the Florida Panthers & The Edmonton Oilers in the NHL Stanley Cup Final.

  1. Sabres fan in Boston. Was pulling for the X Sabres on FLA and Marchy. Barkov 👍. Class act. Great player. Used to hate, now respect the hell outa Sam Bennet.

Question McD "Greatest in the world" mantra. At what? Skating, maybe. Did see a lot of figure 8s out there. Give me Leon over McMuffin

  2. I'm gonna quote Herb Brooks here: "I'm not looking for the best players, I'm looking for the right ones"
That's the difference between these finalists. Teamwork defeated individual talent.

  3. Lets hope that the league decides that florida fouls can also be called, they had a fairly free reign so now we can introduce back this so called competition and fair play.

  4. This idea being floated that McDavid might not get back to the Cup Finals is crazy. He's 28, and there are lots of great players who won it in the late 30s (Bourque, Selanne, Hasek, Tim Thomas, etc.). I agree it gets harder as you get older, but a player of McDavid's stature will win the Cup at some point in his life. The only caveat is that it probably won't be in Edmonton.

IMHO, Florida isn't a dynasty until they get a third Cup in the next year or two. Two Cups is impressive, but not worthy of the 'dynasty title'.

  5. Next year is the last secure year for McDavid. He's a great player, but he's not won a cup. Meaning it can be done without him. He is rumored to be aiming for up to $18 million a season. With all the money the front office is already dumping into the team, they are close to no longer wanting a return on their investment and closing in on demanding a return. For the money, if they don't win again next season, the front office will start looking at costs. Will it increase their chances to lose other assets to keep McDavid, or can they let him go and add more tools? Fans won't like it, but it'll be a very real discussion for the front office. Make the team more well-rounded and add depth or keep McDavid. He might be hard to replace, but with his contract ending after next season, it's a very real possibility.

  6. Forsling is one of the most cerebral defensemen in the league. If the Norris was ACTUALLY just about playing defense, he'd be in the conversation each of the last 3 years.

  7. The Panthers didn't beat McDavid and the Oilers by themselves. It's Connor McDavid who let people make him feel like he's the best player ever in the history of Mankind. McDavid put himself to be the best but he can't do it by himself or even inspire his team since he didn't have the similar team as the 80s Oilers had whom had a lot more talent than they can handle to win multiple Stanley Cup. Besides, the Sleazy ex-used car salesman Commissioner of the NHL Gary Bettman has other ideas of who should be then next Champions and the referees always obey him.

  8. Oilers this year were steamrolling everybody I am really surprised they lost the final. The way they demolished Vegas and Dallas they looked like inevitable champions. Now that they choked against Florida everyone is bashing on them like they suck. This is crazy strong powerhouse team that just got unlucky to lose 2 overtime games at pivotal moment. Maybe they unraveled mentally because they lost to Florida last year. Florida almost lost to Toronto clowns and looked weaker than Oilers coming into finals. I'm very surprised of the outcome was expecting Edmonton to crush them hard

  9. Does anyone have more Stanley Cup Finals appearances than Corey Perry this century? If that is cursed, I hope I soon earn the wrath of a mysterious fortune teller myself!

  10. ITS NOT A FUCKING DYNASTY 3 in 5 IS THE ONLY WAY YOU BECOME A DYNASTY. Modern day didn't change the requirement it's MEANT TO BE ELUSIVE. Yall are wanna be different cucks

  11. goign to be a long off season not having your weekly NHL weekly recaps. your channel is one of many reasons I keep up with Hockey and you make it easy to keep up with it since i work many hours a week

  12. Panthers are deep. Their 3rd line was a second line; hell their 4th line was a second line at times. Solid, steady goaltending; superior coaching and adjustments. Remember they were down 2-0 and 3-1 in Game 3 vs. Toronto…then the force of their will took over. And their depth won them that series. Dominated everyone else. Dominated the leafs in 2 games too.

  13. Amazing got every player to fit that defensive system perfectly. Can be a risky system if a player is a second late or overcommits , but it also helps they have Bob
