sending out carson palmquist for the start in this one while the diamondbacks will counter with mel kelly and uh palmquist coming off another start last time out where he was a little bit roughed up gave up four runs on four hits a pair of home runs over four and two/3 innings of work and that came at nationals park and it was a game that the rockies ended up winning six to four with palmquist on the bump but it wasn’t palmquist that got the victory in that game um but that being said you know palmquist has still had his fair share of issues at home i mean his first start at korsfield he gave up seven runs on 10 hits six earn runs four walks and a pair of home runs but even in the start you know recently against the giants four innings gave up two runs and while that doesn’t sound too terrible on paper took him 97 pitches to get through those four full innings struggled with control as he gave up three walks was a lot of long drawn out at bats and he had to hand the ball over to a uh a rocky’s bullpen that right now in the last seven days has a 6.39 erra as a unit so there’s you know the problem for me with the the colorado rockies now the rockies are going up against mel kelly here a righty who is coming off a start where he gave up four runs on seven hits over five innings against the padres’s took the loss there um and the rockies in the last two weeks against right-handed pitching hitting you know fairly well i mean they’re still one of the best lineups in baseball from a batting average perspective they’re hitting 273 their team ops numbers are top two in baseball they’re second best the isolated power numbers are second best the bab is second best now if you’re worried that you know maybe that sample size is sort of backloaded from the from the uh last two weeks well you zoom it into the last seven days it’s a 253 batting average so it does drop a little bit the isolated power numbers are still second though and the team ops numbers are top five if you’re looking for a reason to back the colorado rockies that’s it but i will counter with this mel kelly for the better part of his career has absolutely owned the colorado rockies his last five starts against colorado 4-0 a 1.38 ra he’s gone six full innings or more in all of those starts last year two starts at kors field 12 innings allow excuse me 12 innings of work three runs allowed nine strikeouts so he pitched well in those outings now the diamondbacks bullpen has been problematic they actually have the worst bullpen erra in the last uh the last seven days at 7.84 but i think kelly can eat up enough innings to be able to not have to rely on this this diamondback’s bullpen too much and not only that you know the rockies in that 7-day time span that i just alluded to against right-handed pitching also have a 31.4% strikeout rate which is second highest in baseball so they’re striking out a ton they’re putting up a lot of damage to the plate but they’re also striking out a fair bit and i think that kelly could generate enough strikeouts here to be able to get to uh the to able to hold down the other rockies lineup i don’t love the diamondbacks against a lefty you know they have struggled against lefties in the last two weeks hitting well below 200 but carson palmquist for me is just one of those pitchers that i think you know can help any lineup sort of get their you know get their act together when they’re struggling and i think that the uh the diamondbacks do enough here to get the win in this one so i’m going to roll with the diamondbacks here and that’s
