Young at third Josh Smith at short Marcus Simeon at second Jake Burgerer at first Jonah doing the catching with Wyatt Langford in left Evan Carter and Senator Doolis Garcia in right nothing and two as Deg Grom swings to the wind and lets it fly and that pitch is a breaking ball and he struck him out looking on a slider a three pitch strikeout of Jeremy Pñena to get the ball game started dr now 47 strikeouts 10 walks in 43 innings this year boy right at the bottom of the zone toward the outside part of the plate one of the things that we’ve seen recently from Deg Grom he has been able to locate with precision he did that right there you can probably guess who’s coming up the reception for Jos Altuve who swings and pops it up near second base josh Smith drifting to his left takes care of it one-handed and there are two outs for over 125 years Globe Life has helped protect families when they need it most globe Life make tomorrow better two away for Isach Paredus another right-handed batter the Astros have just one switch hitter in the lineup Keratiti everybody else bats right-handed paredus a 267 batter six homers 19 driven in braum with the fast ball slider combo change and curve from time to time and the pitch is a strike on the outside edge at 98 quarterline call goes the pitcher’s way there are two outs and nobody on here in the top half of the first there’s the 01 delivery outside one and one tomorrow we play again at 7:05 then Saturday at 6:05 and Sunday at noon the tickets dwindling for those games so don’t waste time go to raers.com and get yours one-1 pitch swung on and missed good slider from Deg Grom and the count is 1 and two he throws that slider just under 40% of the time the fast ball about 46% of the time he has been really good in his last five starts a 191 erra the one two is on the way that missed outside fast ball at 99 so he has brought his best fast ball to the dance tonight christian Walker would be next the former Tampa Bay Ray and Tiger swings and rolls one foul off to the left he finished last year with the Cubs after beginning the year with Tampa Bay usually a very patient hitter he led all major league hitters in pitches per plate appearance last year and his seventh this year second in the league in walks the two two pitch on the way that’s low and outside a slider and the count has gone full on Paradus a native of Mosio Mexico in his first year with the Astros he replaces Bregman at third base tough task payoff pitch swung on and a dribbler up the first baseline it curls fair the Grom takes care of it along the line and flips underhand to Burger to retire the side that ball started foul had some crazy English on it and spun into fair territory so a one two three inning for Jacob Deg Grom and we’re going to the responsibly the Rangers in the scoreless game josh Smith Wyatt Langford Jack Peterson to face Hunter Brown 26-year-old native of Detroit out of Wayne State University fifth round draft choice in 2019 who turned his season around last year in May when he adopted a two seamer and he has been very effective since throws that fast ball about the same velocity as Deg Grom anywhere from 95 to 99 has a curve a change a slider and a cutter he’s given up just one home run this year that was in his first start no home runs in his last 46 innings josh Smith hitting 314 he’s eighth in the league in batting four homers 10 RBI’s for the left-handed batter brown lowers the hands to the waist up to the cap and to the plate and it’s fouled off to the left and out of play tony Beasley coaching at third base cory Ragsdale coaching at first for the Rangers brown is working in short sleeves tonight features the number 58 on his bat into the wine and the 01 delivery and Josh swings and shoots it foul over the head of third base coach Tony Beasley and he’s in a hole at 0 and2 the Rangers have won five games in a row they’ve outscored their opponents 30-9 during those games they have hit 13 home runs as the offense has come to life the Astros are in a stretch of 17 games in 17 days here’s the O2 swing and a miss he struck him out on a fast ball at 98 miles an hour so there is one away brown sixth of the league in strikeouts that’s his 59th in 49 innings he has walked 14 the league hitting 180 RP that’s the third lowest opposing batting average and with one out here’s Wyatt Langford hitting .262 leading the club in home runs with eight he has 18 runs batted in he had two home runs in the Colorado series brown delivers and Langford takes a strike over the inside corner brown against the Rangers three-2 in his career in six starts and a 309 RA won the game by the three-2 and a home run by the Wizards the next unforgettable call on the MLB app and MLB.com take a hack at guessing which baseball player or manager said the following i really don’t know what to say i’m just uh so happy I gave something these people cheer we all did i mean it was a great game both teams played incredible it was a great game that’s Mike Piaza after he hit an eighth inning go-ahad home run in the first New York Mets home game after 911 hear moments like this and more on the MLB app and MLB.com is the right fielder number 23 big ovation for Fernando here in the bottom of the first inning everybody obviously very relieved that he’s able to go here tonight michael Lorenz on the mound for Kansas City one- nothing Royals and first pitch swinging hammers it foul down the left field line nothing in one cutter got in just enough for Lorenzan’s purposes at least and Tatis unable to keep it there he was looking at potential extra bases there it is 68 in wide of the line good call by the third base umpire Nick Marley 0 and one the pit and Tati swings fouls it back and he’s behind 0 and2 against the veteran righty Lorenzan been a while since we have seen Michael Lorenzan fernando obviously hit by a pitch in his last plate appearance last night ninth inning at Dodger Stadium did not look good certainly did not feel good here’s the O2 tati swings and misses a change up strike three one out in the bottom of the first inning but just the fact that he’s out there tonight a huge relief for this entire organization yeah not only that Jesse but just even swinging at the first pitch that the way that he did it’s a you know good hard sinker in on his hands and he’s pulling it down the left field line that’s a good sign it’s not like there’s any tentiveness and no concern about hey a pitch inside good old Fernando bring it on but now nobody on for Luis Arise left-handed batter of course and a statue take a fast ball that nips the top of the zone on the outside corner for a called strike nothing and one luis has once again put together a nice little hitting streak six straight games with a base hit had a triple in the eighth inning last night and scored a run one pitch is a little bit up tried that same spot and missed so the count is now even one and one i’m not used to seeing Michael Lorenzan in a blue uniform jesse long time red Philly this is definitely a color switch rise shows bunt pulls back takes a fast ball strike one and two yeah I’m used to seeing him in that Cincinnati Reds uniform yeah I mean he’s played or pitched for a few teams but a bunch of them red teams the Reds the Angels the Phillies also been a Tiger last year he began the season with Texas they were red sometime and they traded into Kansas City one and two and Ary swings hits it on a line the other way lofting over but it’ll be into the seats foul and out of play still one ball and two strikes yeah Lor’s an interesting cat too i mean he’s a great athlete he was a two-way guy for a long time and has seven different pitches that he can throw up there he uses a little bit of everything and if you’re trying to prepare against him it’s not that easy and that he kind of is a field pitcher i’ll explain that in a second one and two and Rise swings fouls it off Salvador Pere everybody goes into a ball game of the game plan right you know what the opposing lineup is and you pick out the guys that you’re going to attack and what weapons you think you’re going to use and you actually prepare for that that in your bullpen before coming into that that lineup but he is so feeloriented it is not uncommon for him to come in with a game plan but by the time he’s walking out of that bullpen he just has a feel for a certain number of pitches and he changes everything goes with eyes on the line to center field is bell was shallow he’s got to go back gets to the spot and squares it up to make a catch to that so it makes it difficult from an opposing hitter standpoint in terms of hey he’s got a tendency to go with this a tendency to go with that well that may have been last week but it could completely change based on just what he’s feeling on a given day with all the different pitches that he has it makes so much sense just from like a common sense perspective but I mean what percentage of pitchers starters do you think actually operate that i I think very few of them well more so now but very few guys have the athleticism and the repertoire that he has to be able to make those types of changes two outs nobody on for Manny first pitch swinging ground ball back to the mound he shows off the athleticism fields it and throws Machado out to end a one-two bottom of the first inning onto the second at Petco Park royals ahead one to nothing on the Padres’s radio network hey gang it’s Woodsy ever wanted to drink your shower water with take a hack at field with an oppo taco his 13th and it’s a one-run game expand your vocabulary by listening to every game on the MLB app and MLB.com moments in baseball have been broadcast on the radio since 1921 smith courts one in right down the line it may go go crazy folks go crazy it’s a home run and the Cardinals have won the game behind the three to two and a home run by the Wizards the next unforgettable call on the MLB app and MLB.com magleó on deck and Freddy for mean to follow and uh the Royals despite the fact that Bobby Whit Jr homered in the first inning and despite the fact that they hit three home runs yesterday in Texas they actually don’t hit a lot of home runs generally speaking in fact the offensive profiles of these two teams are nearly identical first pitch to Salvador Perez is high all in no strikes to the very very well- reggarded well decorated veteran catcher hitting 237 eight homers 38 RBI auto pitch and he takes loan outside two and nothing but I mean neither team offensively really strikes out much neither team really walks much neither team hit that many home runs both teams like to steal bases two and0 and Perez takes a good sweeper for a strike two and one now yeah extend it just one more analogy further both teams have gone through stretches during the season where they really struggle with runners and scoring position we know the Padres’s had that stretch and the Royals have had one as well pops this one into shallow right field fernando ambles underneath of it now a couple of steps towards the line and he makes the catch one out in the second as we pause 10 seconds for station identification on the Padres’s Radio Network kwfn and KWFN HD1 San Diego hey what’s up this is Nick Fetta you’re listening to Padres’s Baseball on the Padres’s Radio Network an Odyssey sports station top of the second brought to you by Sinly Food ignite your taste buds with the freshest flavors at Sinly Food discover authentic ingredients at 4665 Elcohone Boulevard the Cook’s Asian Resort kagleó left-handed batter out in front of a curveball swings and misses strike one one of the top prospects in all of baseball and Kagleon had himself a day yesterday not only hit his first career home run but hit his second career home run later that same day 0 and one he checks his swing picks the same pitch a little low this time one ball and one strike 22 years old he was the sixth overall pick in the draft last year at the University of Florida he began the season at DoubleA 38 games there dozen more at AAA now he’s up one foul the other way one and two yeah it’s pretty amazing when you think about it this young man just drafted it last season and he’s already up in the big leagues but Jesse he is kicking the door and when you hit 322 with 15 home runs and 56 RBI’s at double A and AAA level you’re telling the team “Hey I’m ready.” And as we talked about the Royals have had their offensive struggles this year so they figured let’s why not give the kid a shot kind of a no-brainer one and two way high and now two balls two strikes yeah they hadn’t been hitting a lot of home runs that’s what they expect him to do is hit a lot of home runs yep there’s going to be some swing and miss in there for sure and be interesting to see how he does this series but the power is there no doubt two due to two pitch gagleon waited on it and able to knock it fouled back out of play and to your point Jesse he had the two home runs he got his first big league home run and so classic got the silent treatment coming into the dugout on that one i just think it’s so fun and and there’s a time and a place for it but with this young man I think he was able to take it well one out nobody on one- nothing Royals in the second and the two to Kaggleó ripped over the first baseman rise towards the right field corner fernando will pick it up on the warning track higher to second base but it’s an easy two as Tag Leon stands at second with a one out double okay so something we’re gonna have to Jesse we’ve seen a hanging curveball for a home run this is a two strike hanging curveball now to Kagleó for the double and he thrown two filthy curve balls to start him off with so when he hangs this one with two strikes this is easy pickings for Kaggleó but it’s something to keep an eye on because normally that curve ball is money in the bank for Nick Petta but we’ve seen him hang a couple of them so far here in the early going and both of them have been costly so Kagleon at second one out freddy Fine who’s dhing tonight the hitter and he takes a backup sweeper for a strike on the inner third nothing at one it’s interesting because I think generally we regard the curveball as Petta’s security blanket mhm letting him down a little bit here early on tonight nothing in one to Fine and a fast ball that misses off the plate outside one and one now to Freddy Fine played a careerhigh 111 games last year but career numbers across the board kind of a part-time guy salvador Perez obviously does other things besides cat strokes this one out to left center field long run and sheets on the move he’ll get there to make a nice pass two down here in the top of the second inning gavin had a long way to go and where the center fielder Wade was playing I don’t think he had a shot to get there jesse I’m not sure your take but it feels to me like Gavin Sheets have gotten more and more comfortable out of left field the more playing time that he’s got you know which is normal as you would expect but I just feel like his jumps are better his routes have been a little bit crisper he just seemed just more confident and more certain in manning that position out there no doubt about it that was not a routine play and he got to it very quickly two out runner on second nick Loftton swings to the first pen chan rips it foul into the second deck down the left field line nothing at one yeah that’s a hanging sweeper right there that’s the third one that Nick has hung in the zone and he’s gotten away with all three of them so far and he was just looking Diaz saying “Hey I got to get that down.” Nick kind of acknowledging “Yeah yeah you’re right we got to make an adjustment with that pitch before more damage is done.” Royals with an early one- nothing lead gagleon at second two outs nothing and one to Nick Loftton who swings and rips it on a line into left center sheets again will fumble and make the catch to end the top of the second inning going to hang a star for Gavin Sheets in left field no runs a hit kaggleó left on base thanks to that great play by Gavin Sheets and in the middle of the second inning it’s the Royals one the Padres’s nothing and now here’s what’s happening at Valley View baseball takes the field at the 2025 MLB Draft Combine get one-of-a-kind access to over 300 top prospects as we take you in the cage on the field and into the sky during six straight hours of live coverage plus exclusive interviews with the moments in baseball have been broadcast on the radio since 1921 smith courts one in right down the line it may go crazy folks go crazy it’s a home run and the Cardinals have won the game by the start of three to two a home run by the Wizard catch the next unforgettable call on the MLB app and MLB.com take a hack at guessing which baseball player or manager said the following i really don’t know what to say i’m just uh so happy I gave something these people cheer we all did i mean it was a great game both teams played incredible it was a great game that’s Mike Piaza after he hit an eighth inning go-ahead home run in the first New York Mets home game after 911 hear moments like this and more on the MLB app and MLB.com let’s see if we can figure out the following baseball slang term today’s phrase is oppo do you know what it means taco a home run hit to the opposite field taco his 13th and it’s a one- run game expand your vocabulary by listening to every game on the MLB app and MLB.com bottom of the second inning Gavin Sheets will lead off after he made the nice catch in left field in the top of the inning Royals with a one- nothing lead here at Petco Park that was Gavin Sheets first career star i love that you’re tracking that now Jesse dave lost the old file folder he had with his spreadsheets from back in the day cheats tries to check on a high fast ball they appeal he didn’t go one and0 so we uh we modernized it this year now we’re electronically keeping track of these things wait were the old archives recovered no I think there was a fire in his basement and uh long gone went back all the way to the 90s 10 pitch is down the middle and a called strike so we started over and this year Manny no surprise leads the Padres’s with five stars jackson Merrill has four Fernando has three and now Sheets the fourth other guy to have a star hung in his honor this year 1-1 gavin rips it foul into the Padre Dugout right side and now one and two so we started talking about Michael Lorenzan a little bit the previous inning just to give you a little recap for seen fast ball is the primary weapon normally he’s also got a change up curveball sinker slider cutter and sweeper and he’ll use all of them now I mentioned the foreseen fast ball normally the primary weapon but he’s been not using it quite as much lately jesse I’m guessing there’s a very good reason why here’s the one and two and Sheets fouls it back well in his own words it’s just no darn good i think you cleaned it up a little bit i could I cleaned it up a little bit yep gave you the family-friendly version but it’s been very inconsistent this year in every dimension so the velocity is not normally where it has been normally he’s a 95 to 97 type guy this year he’s he’s been more in the 93 94 range with it one and two and she swings hits it on a line to right field kaggleon in his tracks has to hop up at the last second to make the play that is the other piece that is yet to come for Jack Kagleon kind of came up as a two-way guy did a lot of pitching played a lot of first base still learning the outfield and uh nearly nearly missed what should have been a routine out there in this bottom of the second inning yeah that’s part of the reason he was still a double A and less time in triple A they’re trying to get him the reps in the outfield like you were referring to Jesse primarily first base and he was pitching a lot in college as well but they’ve got a guy by the name of Pasquatch pascino at first base right now vander gets in takes a fast ball strike boggart’s his first four hit game of the year last night in LA so to finish the story on the fast for Lorenzan yeah the velocity has been inconsistent but on top of it Jesse just no movement whatsoever wanda Bogart is fouled back and it’s not that he’s that he was traditionally a big movement type guy to begin with he didn’t have a ton of carry on it but in a combination with inconsistent velocity below where it needs to be to get it by guys on its own and you don’t have a whole lot of movement on it you got to be pretty darn perfect with it and he’s not which is why he’s been getting away from it we’re going to probably see more sinkers and force and two bogarts gets a hanging breaking ball trying to dump it into shallow left but he will right between Loftton and Whit left fielder was coming in short stop is going out sander finds some space and Mr bogart’s now six for his last six that was the Padres’s first hit of the game brought to you by Frozen Ropes summer softball league runs July 7th through August 17th with games training and tons of fun check him out at san diegrozenroppes.com that’s san dieg frozenroproppes.com somebody’s getting hot Jesse look out xander Bogart swinging the hot bath that was such a huge plate appearance for him two nights ago when he came up with that game time double did not yet get to enjoy it very long of course no but uh picked up where he left off last night now again tonight is Croninorth and he will take a fast ball a little bit high one and0 did get to enjoy the four hits yesterday though had the home run you know it’s really interesting too when you look at Xander’s numbers behind the scenes all of the supporting numbers would suggest that he would having his best year ever here’s a slow grounder to the right side lorenzan reached for it doesn’t have it glove flip from India to first is in time for the second out bogarts advances to second base and the Padres’s now with the tying run in scoring position two away in the bottom of the second inning stat of the day brought to you by Culling Water of San Diego providing advanced water treatment solutions including softeners filters and bottled water they ensuring cleaner safer and great tasting water for homes and businesses since 1936 st of the day involves one of my favorite notes about any guy in all of Major League Baseball oh that’s saying something cuz you have a lot of notes on guys Jeff yes I do it involves Michael Lorenzan who misses high ball one you might remember two Augusts ago as a Philly he threw a no hitter and a great note about that is that Michael Lorenzan went to Fullerton Union High School up in Orange County he is one of five guys to ever get out of that high school and pitch in the major leagues or swings and misses one and one four of the five guys have thrown no hitters wow that’s pretty amazing actually one of them Walter Johnson by the way okay in the big train that’s going way back steve Busby Mike Warren the others nice so five guys out of that high school ever to get to the big leagues four of them have thrown no hitters one so I got a miss okay so who’s the guy that’s just let down the entire program and not thrown a no hitter in the big leagues his name is Bob Ross he only made three career starts for the Senators in the early 50s and he’s actually a little bit of an asterisk you could argue he doesn’t actually fit because apparently he began his professional baseball career before he actually graduated high school oh cuz you know it was 1940 whatever and I guess he’s not an official graduate of the school so he’s off the hook so you could argue the four guys who actually graduated all have thrown no hitters brook swings and misses add a change up to strike out that’ll end the second inning no runs ahead xander left at second base and onto the third with the Royals ahead one to nothing on the Padres’s Radio Network board employee pricing is here i’m general manager Greg Ryan at El let’s see if we can next unforgettable call on the MLB app and MLB.com take a hack at guessing which baseball player or manager said follow i really don’t know what to say i’m just uh so happy I gave something these people cheer we all did i mean it was a great game both teams played incredible it was a great game that’s Mike Piaza after he hit an eighth inning go-ahad home run in the first New York Mets home game after 911 hear moments like this and more on the MLB app and MLB.com with Junior a homer on a hunk curveball from Nick Paveta second batter of the game he is due up third here this inning with Isbel and India preceding him kyle Isel the number nine hitter starting in center field one out of 11 in their three-game sweep of the Rangers this week in Arlington left-handed batter one of only three in the Kansas City lineup and he takes a fast ball strike nothing in one and that was something Bob you were pointing out very early on and a little bit different against Pavetta who’s actually struggled with right-handed hitters more than left-handed hitters this year a one pitch and Isbell takes down the middle at the bottom of the zone but called the ball and now one and one yeah and I don’t mean to suggest that it’s been this crazy lopsided split and right-handers are owning him they’re not by any means he’s they’re only hitting 219 off them pitch low but he’s just been so dominant against the lefties that it’s been really impressive they’ve hit a buck 999 with a 550 on base plus slug only two home runs so he’s just done a great job of dominating the lefties and you know I can just speak from experience when you’re used to facing a certain batter on a certain side of the plate now back to you get into a groove and you just know okay this is what I need to do i I I know where to start my pitches i’ve got the visuals i know where to start my you know for me it was a split finger and a two seam fast ball that I was able to run in on guys and get them to chase over the top of and you just get comfortable with it and all of a sudden it’s a little bit different sort of have to recalibrate sometimes and sent two and two to Isel he swings and misses strike three that was a good curve ball from Mick Fett second K of the day and one out in the top of the third inning as the order turns over for Jonathan Indian that curveball was filthy and that was the same curveball that Gagleon saw the first two pitches that he saw facing Nick Fett it’s basically from your nose to your toes that thing just has great 12-6 drop with a lot of action on it so it’s there he has it tonight it’s just made a couple of hangers with it as well india stands in 0 for one he got machado in the first inning leading off and he’ll take a sweeper outside from Paveta 1 and0 india always been a good walk guy always been a very good hit by pitch guy couple things to keep in mind always one pitch is swung on and fouled back out of play one and one walked 80 times last year that was tied for fifth most in all of baseball led the Reds another guy that was a high draft pick cincinnati took him fifth overall back in 2018 one-1 pitch popped dump foul and out of play university of Florida guy liked Jack Agleion i was always an India fan over in Cincinnati i thought he put together good plate appearances defense you know a little bit lacking i think that might be one of the reasons that the Revs ultimately opted to part ways with him but good hitter he’s not been getting to the fast ball this year though jesse hitting only 224 on the heater he’s been doing most of his damage on breaking ball hannah ahead of him one ball and two strikes with one out and nobody on top of the third inning pitch on the way and India swings muscles it in the air to right center field fernando will call off Tyler Wade and Tatis makes the catch two down here in the third with Bobby Wit Jr coming up and as we’re talking about Tyler Wade running around in center field a little bit of a Jackson Merrell update earlier today from Mike Schill who despite the suspension tonight was allowed to meet with us which we appreciate and uh he said basically Jackson went through something of a normalish pregame routine today felt good about it and obviously appears to be trending in the right direction yeah that was definitely positive news for Mike Schult today pitch the wid is a fast ball out and it’s been interesting it’s been sort of a progression and each day the the headaches are getting less the nausea is getting less i mean it was really a thing the first few days but it seems to be past most of that stuff and great to hear that he’s actually doing some baseball skills now swinging the bat and throwing outback one and one jackson is eligible to come off the concussion IIL for the game on Sunday here uh but that decision will be made by the medical center jesse at no point have I gotten the impression that that was the expectation it was really really bad one and one and Whit takes a fast ball on the outside corner for a strike one and two it was a weird play to begin with with Maryland and Arizona and can tell Marte I mean the very moment he put the tag down he knew something bad had happened and that’s how hard he hit him again one two late defensive swing able to line it foul up the right field side yeah it surprised me because when you we first saw the play just from the outside it didn’t look like a type of play that would cause as much symptoms as we’ve been hearing about but to your point Marte knew so he must have known that he was putting in a forceful tag and felt the impact because there was no doubt in his mind that that was a hard contact one two to win swung on a miss strike three got him to chase a sweeper and a nice one two three top of the third inning turned in by Nick Petta who strikes out two more after two and a half royals won Padres’s let’s see if you can figure out the following baseball slang term today’s phrase is oppo Nationals this Monday at 6:40 visit padres.com/giveaways and Jesse I’ve never seen a bat spin 360 like that they’re getting more and more creative yeah it’s a lot of fun good toy and I’m sure the place will be packed for that one on Monday bottom of the third inning trusted will score the Royals won and the Padres’s nothing diaz Wade and Tatis 8 N and one coming up against Michael Lorenzan first pitch on the way and Aaliyah swings hits it in the air to left center field pretty deep lofted his back into the gap he’s got room at about 3 ft in front of the warning track he’ll circle around it to make the catch for the first out of the inning did miss by much but he missed and it will now be the driver yeah just a nice little cutter just barely missing the barrel up the back of Elias Diaz and again that’s sort of the challenge of facing Michael Lorenzan he’s got the curveball sinker sliders cutters sweepers not one pitch that you can sit on wade a left-handed batter and he’ll take the first pitch fast ball low one and0 padres’s have one hit so far this first trip through the line out and a one out single by Xander Bogart’s last inning now six for his last six third baseman Garcia pulled in in case Wade tries to knock one the other way and Tyler takes down and in two balls and no strikes told you Mark Ripper is calling the balls and strikes tonight escandido native had a perfect game calling balls and strikes early this season one of only three that has been reported 2 and0 and downstairs three balls and no strikes to wade nick Lent who is the first base umpire has also called a perfect game in terms of being a home plate umpire i don’t mean a pitcher’s perfect game i mean an umpire’s perfect game didn’t miss a call 3 and 0 wade taking all the way looks at a fast ball strike the knees three and one now from Lorenza that’s pretty impressive really and tip of the cap to both those gentlemen you think of all the pitches that they’re seeing over the course of the ball game that’s probably 250 between 250 and 300 pitches possibly we get them all right 3-1 is inside ball four so Tyler Wade draws a one out walk here in the bottom of the third inning and now speed aboard as the order turns over aiso for one he struck out in the first inning leading off against Lorent fact that he’s out there though is definitely the big picture good news wade leading at first they check on him it’s close but back ahead of the tag from Pascal Tina lorenzan’s got a nice quick move for a right-handed pitcher he has always really done a nice job controlling the running game and that one was so close the Royals were momentarily holding it up to see if they wanted to challenge they will not lorenzan set and ready wade not going and Tatis leans back from a fast ball that looked in but was called a strike nothing in one not going to be a perfect game for the river tonight Jesse but the first few misses go by but yeah that one was particularly not all that good 0 and one and Tatis takes in the dirt outside one ball and one strike beautiful evening at Petco Park bob Mansion jam-packed as always first day of summer but of course that is a far more comfortable thing here than it is in most of the rest of the country one and one to Tatis and look out oh boy over his head and Wade is advancing to second takes a turn and now goes there as Salvador Perez gets it and understandably these fans here not at all happy fast ball over the head of Tatis who ended up on the seat of his pants that was right at his head i mean he had to do one of his matrix tricks to get out of the way of it we’ve seen Fernando do that so many times and hey we’ve talked about it enough but last series alone he had to do that multiple times now Lorenzan has pitched him in this ball game with that hard sinker and he’s been able to throw it in there for a strike but that one definitely got away two and one misses outside ball three so Wade at second on the wild pitch and uh of all nights well you know Lorenzan’s aware of it kansas City’s everybody in Major League Baseball is aware of what went down three and one now and Tati steps back takes what looked like a strike but was called a ball and had the second walk of the inning issued by Lorenz puts two men aboard for Luis Rise you know it’s it’s such a challenge because as a human being you understand what Fernando is going through but as a pitcher you’ve got a job to do in terms of trying to get him out and part of getting him out is being able to pitch inside so you know those things are going to happen now Salvador Perez is going to hit out and have a little chat with Lorenzan and try to get him back on track but it can it can play with your head also Jesse as an opposing pitcher just thinking to yourself “Oh my gosh I I don’t want to do some guy in the head especially after everything else that he that’s kind of the I don’t want to say funny thing but the the wild thing about it is that that was a much more dangerous pitch just now than maybe anything we saw in the two series against the Dodgers.” True cuz it was right at his head and he ducked down out of the way here’s a rise statue taken a fast ball on the inner edge might have been a cutter nothing and one so the Padres’s have Fernando at first wade at second and one out trailing one- nothing here in the bottom of the third inning rise 0 for one he lined out to Isbel in center swings here pops it up high in a shallow ride india back gagleon in and it’ll be the right fielder making the catch and out number two in the bottom of the third boy a nice little pitch sequence right there he goes he goes cutter in at 91 and then he goes back inside again and it looks like it’s going to be another cutter luis feels like okay I’m ready for it i’m going to get my throw to that wall but ends up being a change up and that’s a pretty bold fit for that change up down into the same location as he just threw the cutter not a lot of guys will do that especially to a left-hand batter but Lorenzan just pulled it off successfully here comes the lumber brought to you by Dixie Line lumber at home centers fix it build it enjoy it two on and two out for Machado first pitch Manny takes and that’s a slider that breaks over the heart of the plate for a called strike nothing and one 0 for one at a comebacker that Lorenzo made a nice play on and it’s bottom of the first inning huge lead for Tatis at first and the 01 pitch is low pasquantino is playing well off the line i mean he’s got to be 25 maybe even 30 feet off the line at first base so Fernando able to take just about that same distance from the bag ball and a strike to Manny runners lead at first and second one- nothing Royals and now Lorenzan will reel around and watch way back to second base in uh looked like he was poking away at his pitch now ready and the one-1 man is a chopper to third charged by Garcia ricky Hop played it perfectly and on the run he throws Machado out to end the bottom of the third inning no runs no hits two walks and two guys left on base head to the fourth at Petco it’s still the Royals one and the Padres’s nothing on the Padres’s radio network let’s see if you can figure out the following baseball slang term today’s phrase is oppo taco do you know what it means [Music] oppo taco a home run hit to the opposite field go ahead home run in the first New York Mets home game after 911 hear moments like this and more on the MLB app and MLB.com perez 34 and five coming up against Nick Pavetta who I think you could argue to this point it’s been one of those you know one bad pitch kind of nights garcia 0 for one he struck out in the first inning who’s Hot Out who’s not brought to you by The Grilling Store at Hillrest Ace Hardware the official grilling store of the Padres’s Radio Network for all your grilling needs visit them on University Avenue or the grilling store sdd.com garcia takes a first pitch curve ball for a strike nothing at one and it is grilling season officially the first day of summer nothing and one and the pitch to Garcia is taken a little bit down and away one ball and one strike all right and so who’s hot little guy jos Altuve last couple of weeks hitting over 400 with five home runs and all of a sudden the Astros are five games ahead of the Mariners in the West foul ball off the catcher Diaz and now one and two to Mike El Garcia after the Spurs got off to a terrible start to the season Jesse they definitely turned things around it’s almost as if it is a marathon and not a sprint you think I’m I’m noticing that one two hit hard on the line up the middle and into left center a base hit sheets over to get it quickly garcia will take a very wide turn at first base but a good throw in from Gavin will send him back to the bat lead off single here in the fourth the Royals have the leadoff man aboard for the first time tonight all right so Altuve is hot not hot giant second baseman Tyler Fitzgerald hitting barely 170 in his last 25 games no home runs and he’s striking out more than 30% of the time asantino squares to Bunt trying to beat the ship and he fouls it back behind home plate strike one and uh I think Padres’s would take that to be honest hey anytime you you can get a slugger to give up his power to go for the single yeah that that’s a compromise that you’re willing to take garcia with great speed at first base although he’s not been as successful stealing bags this year as he was last year on one pitch Pascantino does not show up on he takes way high one ball one strike so Garcia the runner at third base and to be clear by the way this is not the Mikel Garcia that used to play for the Phillies you know 10 years ago this is a younger Mikel Garcia who appears to be a much much better player not that that guy was bad but this guy is a budding star pitch inside 2 and one and last year Garcia was 37 out of 39 stealing bases but this season he’s 15 for 22 so everybody is very well aware and he has not been as efficient in that department not running and the 2-1 lined into right field fernando has to play it on a hop garcia got a great read and ends up at second base back-to- back singles to begin the top of the fourth inning against Paveta yeah look Nick’s not had his sharpest stuff throughout this ball game and he’s basically only given up the one home run as a result of it but we’ve seen a couple of hard hit balls we’ve seen a lot of mislo tonight quite frankly especially on the fast ball and that’s another mistake pitch right there it was a missed fast ball to Mael Garcia mislocated it was for the single now this is another hanging curve ball we’ve seen several of those tonight so it’s been inconsistent sometimes Nick’s making his pitch but other times he’s not and it’s been costly perez gets in he takes a breaking ball low and outside one and0 and I think honestly lucky that that pitch to Pascino a moment ago was only a base hit there are nights in which Vinnie Pasquantino would go full pass on a hunger ball on top and hit it a very long way one and0 to Perez swing and a miss backto-back sweepers and Al ball in a strike goes without saying that Salvador Perez a 35-year-old catcher is a tremendous double play candidate grounded 17 of them last year to lead the Royals and as everybody knows it’s in our broadcasters handbook that anytime a veteran catcher comes to bat you have to say it basketball right down the middle at the bottom of the zone one and two from the press box rule right Jesse it’s absolutely right he is grounded in eight already this year that leads the Royal Ninetime All-Star five-time Gold Glover one-two pinch reach for poked the other way caught by a rise on a line throw back to second not in time as Garcia had another good read so Perez with a soft line out and one away top of the fourth brought to you by Genesis Home Improvements san Diego’s trusted painting Ruth Magnets and Window Company one- nothing Royals top of the fourth two on and one out for Kagleon big strong left-handed batter first pitch on the way kagleon swings and misses 95 little bit up out of the zone nothing in one pen kaggleó drafted sixth overall last year played collegially in Gainesville Florida grew up in Tampa kickoff at second and Garcia back went to the same high school Kaggle Leone as both Petonzo and Wade B clint High School in Tampa runners lead at first and second trying to keep this a one- nothing game here’s the pitch runners go it’s inside throw down to third the tag is in time elias Diaz great throw and a nice tag by Machado to get Garcia asino ends up at second base but that’s the second out of the inning great throw by Diaz and when you’ve got the door open you’ve got a left-hand batter up there so there’s no distraction for him to be able to just come up and fire and that ball is right on the money easy play from Hanny to put the tag down if you’re going to steal third base you better be sure you get a pretty darn good jump especially when you don’t have a right-hand batter up there so now the eighth time Garcia has been caught again last year only twice one and one to Kaggleó check swing and that’s a foul ball at the plate so one and two at second does not get credit for a steal royals with a one- nothing lead but Mikel Garcia running into an out on the bases perhaps helping Nick Veta out of this fourth inning as Quintino leads at second two away a ball in two strikes here’s the pitch and a foul ball straight back challenged him with a heater challenged him but again it wasn’t well located and got way too much to the plate nick again lucky to get away with that one you saw the catch of Diaz he was almost getting all the way out of the crouch he wanted it so far up he was trying and it it was almost down a bit yep will now step off and reset as he and Diaz go through some pitch keystrokes runner at second two away a ball and two strikes the veta ready here’s the pitch and Kaggleó rolls over grounds it deep to first a rise has it he’ll bring it himself and in time to end the inning no runs two hits and one guy left on base middle of the fourth at Petco Park it’s a one- nothing Royals lead on the Padres’s radio network escape to historic Tom Hams Lighthouse on Harbor Island fresh seafood vast great moments in baseball free MLB Network Strike Zone Wednesday and Friday matt trying to get a little something going offensively against Michael Lorenzan AC ahead one to nothing on a Bobby Whit homer back in the first inning here’s something on Lorenzan so far this season in the first two innings of games his RA is 2.89 very good obviously but in the third inning and beyond this year that ERA jumps way up over six yeah it’s really interesting and I’ll complement that stat here in a second gavin cheat swings fouls at back correct one to your point Jesse I was looking at the plate appearances same same trend 212 batting average with a 644 OPS the first time through the second time through and I normally talk about the third or the fourth time right not for Lorenzan the second time through the batting average jumps up to 324 and a 901 OPS that’s pretty dramatic for only the second appearance the one is way outside and I don’t have an answer for that other than what he had talked about himself in terms of the stuff just not being as electric this year as it has been in the past and so maybe you get by with it the first time through but the second time through if you don’t have some sort of a a fast ball that you can keep guys honest with launch foul by Sheets that’ll find the upper deck down the right field line one and two yeah but if you don’t have something that you can keep guys honest with then it gets tougher and tougher to trick them with the off speed and be perfect with it and obviously that’s been a challenge for Lorenzan even the second time through cheats to be followed by Bogarts and Croninworth down one- nothing here in the fourth inning one-two pinch Gavin inside outs it the other way loftton started back now he jogs in a couple of steps and the left fielder makes the catch for the first out here in the bottom of the fourth inning and our friends on Apple TV just had a replay from the Padre dugout after the top of the inning you mentioned it Nick Pavetta his stuff is not doing what he wants it to do tonight and Nick went in there and he was slamming his glove on the bench a few times after the end of the top of the fourth inning yeah I I I get it i’ve seen him with a lot of emotion on the mound tonight and frankly not much of a good he’s very frustrated with how he’s throwing the ball and yet here’s Bogart he’ll lift up the hands and take a slider first try no he’s getting away with it but he knows that it’s on borrowed time if he keeps missing his locations with those fast balls and hanging curve balls the way that he has i I’ve not seen him have an outing like this but to his credit he’s keeping the damage to a minimum 0 and one bogards takes and a fast ball this time right at the knees on the outside edge nothing and two and we talk about that all the time in terms of hey there’s going to be nights where you have your stuff and you better win those games and there’s some nights where you don’t have your best stuff well this is one of those nights where he doesn’t but he’s still keeping the Padres’s in the ball game going to the pitch and Bogard takes downstairs that’s the change up from Lorenzo sanders got the only Padre hit of the night so far a one-out single in the second inning so he’s now six for his last six at the dish four for four last night in the big game tying double in the ninth inning the night before one and two and Bogards out in front able to ground it foul at third base keep the AB going ball and two strikes for Lorenzan little surprised to see Lorenzan pitching without the sleeves tonight Jesse he went through a period where he was wearing sleeves all the time and the reason is he was tipping his pitches one and two and Xander takes low outside and so you’re probably wondering what does wearing sleeves have to do with tipping your pitches how does that coordinate well this guy is so muscular and so vascular that the opposing hitters were actually able to see what pitch he was going to throw by the way that his muscles and his veins were moving as he was getting the grips on his pitches two and two and Bogurts takes low again nice job getting himself back in the at bat count is now full borenzan has always been a guy who enjoys showing off the biceps and no judgment no blame we all would if we looked like that that’s a that’s a pretty remarkable little thing to have to deal with 32 the day was it the one year when he was in Cincinnati they wearing throwback uniforms with sleeveless and I mean he took the sleeves all the way he just had to cut him off like Frank Howard exactly xander was behind 0 and2 it’s now full and he’s about to see the eighth pitch of this at bat with Lorenza really first time tonight there’s been this kind of AB here it comes and Bogarts takes in the dirt ball four nice job by Bogarts third walk of the night issued by Lorenzan first two came last inning and a one out base runner here in the bottom of the fourth down one to nothing you know I started to talk about it earlier with Xander a little bit and when you look at his peripheral numbers the exit velocity is up the number of barrels that he has is up the chase rate for him this year is down i mean record levels at any point of his career yet he’s not had the results to show for but maybe starting to catch up for him jess Xander excuse me Croninworth out in front of a change up swings and misses xander is at first with one out one- nothing Royals in the bottom of the fourth inning the one pitch is upstairs one ball one strike have you gotten any read on Jake’s shoe situation this year uh you know what we talked about it in the spring training a little first bogard’s back standing see the bright green and then but those have now gone away they have and I’m curious about it because at first he had the bright greens going and I asked him about it and he said “Well I just haven’t had time to paint them yellow yet.” But then I thought well maybe he’s breaking them in to wear on the city connects and here it is city Connect and he’s still got the yellows going it’s here swung on popped up behind third base garcia back onto the grass right near the line but in fair territory and he makes the catch so Cronorth pops to third two down foggard’s back to first base and the pods here it’ll be left up to Trenton Rose i see you have no more insight on the shoe situation than I did no but I’ll be honest I really appreciated him wearing the bright green shoes because it was just a nice quick easy identifier for my brain on who was making a play on the infield that’s true yeah like a relay throw or something it was like “Oh yeah I know who that is.” Totally selfish and nobody else cares but for me it was helpful ball outside one and0 to the left hand hitting Brooks Trenton playing his first home game tonight and to that point Jesse you taught me that trick early on many years ago when I was trying to figure out they had two a short stop and a second baseman that looked almost identical and he said “You got to pick something out.” Whether it’s the height of their socks or a batting glove that the one guy is wearing some little thing for the first Bogarts was leading but he’s back and I I thank you for that since then I’ve been able to successfully you know keep two players that are basically the same height and everything looks the same except one guy’s got the banning glove on and one guy’s got a little bit more space on his socks it’s uh it got really important in the age of the shift it’s a little easier now bogart’s runs pitch out perez throw down the tag is in time if that stands it’ll be the first time this year that Xander Bogarts has been caught stealing throw was not perfect from Salvador Perez but Xander did not get the best jump ever brian Espazito holding it up remember he’s the acting manager tonight and the Padres’s will not challenge it was close but Bogarts is out and that’s all for the Pods here in the bottom of the fourth inning onto the fifth in San Diego one- nothing Royals on the Padres’s Radio Network hey parents got a softball loving player between the ages of 6 and 12 this summer let her don’t know what to say i’m just uh so happy I gave something these people cheer we all did i mean it was a great game both teams played incredible it was a great game that’s Mike Piaza after he hit an eighth inning go-ahad home run in the first New York Mets home game after 911 hear moments like this and more on the MLB app and MLB.com has been able to limit the damage just the one home run by Bobby Wit Jr second batter of the game fermine will get in 0 for one he lined out to sheets back in the second inning nick has not walked a batter i think his command issues have been more in the zone than away and first pitch here is a good breaking ball for a strike nothing at one those seem like the sweeper is a little bit more cooperative tonight than the curve ball there have been less hanging sweepers than hanging curve balls 0 and one for me flinches takes and a called strike on the outside edge another sweeper 0 and two the problem is the curve ball when it’s good is so good and he’s throwing some excellent ones tonight as well it’s just been fickle oh and two to Fine the pitch is a fast ball a little bit up and now one ball two strikes is ready now the one and two man for me and takes another fast ball a little bit up two balls two strikes i think Nick thought that that was strike three and he was kind of stalking down the other side of the mound expecting the ball to go around the horn and it did not he is an easy read out there not holding anything back emotionally two two pitch low and outside ball three you know some guys Dylan Cece maybe a lot of the time at least when you look at him you can’t tell whether the best night of his career or the worst night of his career nick will let you know very very quickly generally speaking how he feels emotional player three and two the pitch for me able to foul it back and the battle will continue just got to be yourself well that you just got to make sure that the emotions don’t distract you from the next pitch that you’ve got to make seventh pitch of the AB about to be delivered and Fine takes low ball for first walk of the night allowed by Nick Leetta and once again the Royals have the leadoff guy on base second straight inning we’ve been able to say that today’s question of the day is brought to you by Kaiser Permanente if you have questions about your health visit kp.org/ / San Diego kaiser Permanente for all that is you good question timely question and if I mispronounce the name I apologize here’s Nick Loftton with a runner on first nobody out squares to bunt takes outside one ball and no strikes it should by the way be no surprise at all to see Loftton squaring the bunt he and Isbel who’s on deck are both guys that can really put a bunt down alzando James with today’s question of the day one and0 and the pitch is outside two balls no strikes and Dezando writes “Would it be uncommon for the respective managers to contact one another after a dust?” Very good timely question i have certainly heard of it happening obviously the exact circumstances dictate part of it 2 and 0 is way high ball three yeah I think it really depends on the relationship that the two managers have to begin with right obviously there’s certain guys that they’ve known each other for a long time they have a mutual respect and they they’ve shared a lot of you know back and forth over the years and then something happens on the field between your players and both guys need to stand up for their players and I think that that’s a more likely scenario to have some sort of a contact afterwards three pitches outside ball for backto back walks issued by Paveta to begin this fifth inning that was a four pitch i I thought it was interesting also that apparently there was an exchange between Mike Schultton and Dave Roberts after last year’s playoff incidents with Manny and everything mike made reference to that today he didn’t go in any details about what was said or even when it was said but he did acknowledge that there had been some contact so yeah those I don’t know that I would say it’s common but it’s it’s not out of the question i don’t get the sense that it happened last night no I didn’t get the sense that it happened last night either just probably for the best yeah I think both guys were were pretty hot in that in that situation back-to-back walks to begin this fifth inning ruben is out to chat with Veta visit to the mound brought to you by The Window Depot offering the best prices and biggest inventory on InStock final windows and interior and exterior doors order online or find a location near you at the window.com both those managers serving their oneame suspensions here tonight brian Espazito steering the ship for the Padres’s he of course was also ejected last night when Robert Suarez was tossed remember if a pitcher is ejected after warnings have been issued for hitting a batter the manager is also automatically ejected mike had already been ejected so Espo got ejected and that left Robbie Hammock steering the ship late in the game last night here’s Isbel great bun he will square gets it down back to the mound pavetta has it only played a first with Croninworth covering and Kyle Isbel yet another sacrifice punt his league leading eight of the season yeah just clinic baseball right there nick Vetta doing what he needs to do you throw a strike in the bunt situation the batter not wasting any time getting the job done early perfect punt got the job done now it’s up to Nicka to try to make some pitches to work out of this jam with the infield pulled in top of the order now jonathan India with Loftton at second for Mina at third and one out first pitch to him fouled straight back nothing at one bobby Wit Jr is on deck after Espo got it ejected I was wondering who was taking over the helm so I’m need immediately asked Ruben Y i said “Hey Ruben you in charge now?” No no no no i don’t have anything to do with that probably Hammock done asked him if he got the first managerial win he says “No I think I got a save.” But India hits it high and deep to left center field sheets his back and this one going to go about seven rows up underneath the overhang in left center field and a three-run homer for Jonathan India his fourth of the year and just like that luck may have run out for Nick Pavetta it’s four to nothing get fast ball fast ball location has been a challenge for Nick all night long we we’ve talked about it we were just keeping our fingers crossed because he’d been able to dodge some bullets throughout this ball game Jesse but it finally catches up to him and it’s been the same problem that he’s had all night long against the right-handers he’s trying to come inside on the righties but all night it’s been drifting back over to the middle of the plate he’s been getting away with it but not that time to Jonathan India fast ball down the middle yep one out nobody on bobby Whit Jr goes after a first pitch fast ball hits a towering fly to right center and Wade will call off Tatis make the catch that’s the second out of the inning and we’ll pause 10 seconds for station identification on the Padres’s Radio Network kwfn and KWFN HD1 San Diego hi I’m Walta you’re listening to Pad Baseball on the Pad Radio Network an honesty sports station with Bob Scandlin and our producer engineer Dave Marcus i’m Jesse Agler four nothing Kansas City and now up and into Mike El Garcia with a sweeper ball one two outs nobody on and Nick Vetta whose command has been off all night long had kind of been able to manage it but a big three-run homer here by India has swung this game and now a liner over Machado Fair all the way up to the left field corner another hard hit ball here and Garcia into second base with a double his second hit of the night juani Praa is throwing in the Padre bullpen and may not be long for this game no not the way things are going right now Jesse and first pitch sweeper up around his head then he tries to come back with a curveball but he hangs it we’ve seen several of those so far tonight tough night for Nick Petta he’s just going to try to do what he can to keep it at four at this point not going to get the opportunity nope brian Espazito the acting manager is on his way out to make a pitching change a very frustrating night for Pavetta and after 84 pitches he’ll depart here in the fifth inning kansas City ahead four nothing pitching change at Petco on the Padres’s Radio Network dixie Line Lumber and Home Centers helping San Dieans fix it build it and enjoy it into this ball game this pitching change and this slowdowned action is brought to you by Eerve it’s a lefty lefty match up here against Pasquantina royals have Mike El Garcia at second base two outs in the top of the fifth inning four nothing Kansas City pair of homer bobby Whit Junior solo shot of the first jonathan India three-run homer here in the fifth and first pitch swinging and missing pass Quintino got loose reaching for a slider could not connect nothing in one when we said the Royals don’t hit a lot of home runs we were serious they don’t pitch is a check swing strike 0 and two as they appeal to third base but they hit a bunch earlier this week in Texas and they have hit two more here part of the reason they don’t have a lot of home runs total is that it’s really hard to hit them out in Kansas City so two is low and outside is a very big yard and a lot of extra base hits a lot of doubles a lot of triples but not a ton of homers not that this place is a home run paradise one two is fouled at the court but I think tonight it just goes back to everything you’ve been saying about location i mean hung a curveball the wit fast ball pretty much on a te to India and no matter the environment not going to go well those are pitches that should get punished ball and two strikes to pass Quintino peralta delivers and misses low and outside two and two runner at second obviously belongs to Pavetta but to this point four runs six hits two and two pascantino hits a bouncing ball over the mound bogarts has it behind second base the throw to first is just in time and that’ll end the top of the fifth inning but a three-run homer by Jonathan India has put Kansas City ahead four nothing at the midway point on the Padres’s radio network hi this is Tina How from Philh How we’ve been serving San Dieans for over 40 years let’s see if we can figure out the following baseball slang term today’s phrase is oppo taco do you know what it means [Music] ao taco a home run a while um I’ve kind of been flowy with my hands the 2025 MLB draft combine coverage continues right here on MLB Network thought he was at the dish when Xander Bogarts was caught stealing in the bottom of the fourth inning first time all year Sanders been caught steal began 13 out of 13 and it was bang bang up at second base but it was a pitch out and they were able to get it so Xander has the streak ended 13 for 13 andre record for most steals without getting caught to begin a campaign belongs to Ever Cabrera Stakes fast strike on the outside corner he began 2012 24 for 24 justin Upton 16 for 16 in 2015 and Manuel Marggo 15 for 15 to begin 2019 sanders streak fourth the franchises one pinch and Brooks rips it over the head of the first baseman passino down the line into the right field corner brooks loses his helmet rounding first he’s at second and Kaggleó had a little bit of trouble picking it up but he’s got a great arm and fires it back in that’ll keep Brooks at second base a leadoff double for Trenton Brooks who hit his first home run as a big leager the other night in LA little breaking ball in half he’s able to turn on it try to get something going here against Laoren and as we mentioned earlier Jesse familiarity has not been a friend to Michael Lorenzan this season the more the opposing hitters see him and it’s not even third or fourth plate appearance it’s the second plate appearance least getting his second look now let’s see if he can continue this damage first pitch to a misses upstairs one ball and no strikes so Brooks getting the opportunity to play Peteco for the first time up in Alpine and he doubles here to lead off the fifth he has takes a fast ball at the bottom of the zone for a called strike one and one four nothing Kansas City padres’s with what I guess really is their best run of the night runner on second nobody out first time tonight the leadoff guy is one and one and Diaz steps into it but pops it up on the right side of the infield pascalino will be called off by India and the second baseman makes the catch just onto the outfield grass one down in the bottom of the fifth nine hitter Tyler Wade coming up wade for one his first time up lorenzo just continuing to mix everything up jesse I mean one pitch that he’s the entire recorder and everything just about equally 20% on the change up the cutter the forcing fast ball the slider the sink i’m going to miss as we talked about earlier a lot less foreseen fast balls than he’s traditionally been losing this season it’s usually at about 40% but tonight it’s only at 19% oh and one to Tyler Wade and a change up for a strike at the knees on the inside corner 0 and2 yeah I mean he brings this kitchen sink out there every five days and you got to kind of figure it out on the fly like this brooks at second one out bottom of the fifth inning 0 and two pitched Wade hit on the ground the other way whit going to his right slides and can’t grip it kind of in and out of the glove of Bobby Whit Jr at shortstop was going to be a tough play especially with Wade’s speed but either way it’s a play you’ve certainly seen Bobby Wit Jr make andre is now two on and one out for Fernando Tatis Jr yeah normally he gloves that cleanly to your point Jesse I don’t know that even if he does is he able to get Wade coming out of that lefthand batter’s box potters will take it two on and one out first pitch swinging fernando laces one on a line to center field and a diving catch by Isbel coming in hard hit up the middle by Fernando Tatis Jr But Isbel basically coming straight in a few big strides just go forward to make the catch and now two down it’ll be left up to arrive yeah good to see Fernando swinging like he normally does on that first pitch and the only reason I’m saying that is because he took a pitch right at his Poconut again tonight that he was barely able to get out of the way of but he’s digging back in there Jesse not getting intimidated here is a rise two on two out and he takes a curveball outside one and0 that line drive came off Tatis’s bat at 104 miles an hour like you said a good sign wade at first brooks at second and Arise fouls it back one and one padres’s have collected their second and third hits of the night against Michael Lorenzan here in this fifth inning but still in search of their first run royals ahead four zip one and one and Arise lines it into right center field that’s down at a base hit whoops is rounding third he’s on his way wade is heading to third he’ll be held there rbi single Luis Arise and the Pods are on the board here in the bottom of the fifth no surprise that it’s Luis Arise that gets the Padres’s on the board and Jesse the pitch before that was a cutter that he just barely missed and he was not happy with himself of not getting to that one but we talked about in the previous plate appearance this is the same sequence that Lorenson had used to retire Arise in his first plate appearance he went putter in and he followed it up with a change up he tried to do the same thing again but this time Luis was all over the change up and lines it in the right field to get the Potteries on the board that’s something to smile about brought to you by Smile Spirits real vodka cocktails not a boring seltzer try Smile Spirits gold flavor with no sugary aftertaste available at padres’s have two on and two out for Manny Machado vincent coach Zack Bog was out there visit to the Mal brought to you by The Window Depot offering the best prices and biggest inventory on in stock vinyl windows and interior and exterior doors order online or find a location near you at the window.com first pitch Manny check swing it rolls away and what are they saying a little safe foul ball there was no initial signal from the plate umpire Riper he was just standing there and Wade came sprinting down the third baseline why not eventually Riper remembered that he is supposed to indicate foul ball by putting his hands in the air and he did just that paul was correct kind of a check swing foul from Manny that’s impossible to tell for most people in the building and that’s why the umpires are supposed to put their hands in the air to say foul ball exactly tyler Wade all he sees is a check swing in the ball getting away from the catcher he doesn’t know if there’s contact made or not did the right thing running home there he had no signal from the home plate umpire it’s a pet peeve of mine as you might be able to tell i get that it was obvious there but most of us are not that close got a little fired up right there Jess oh and one machado takes at the top of the zone a strike nothing and two not as hot as you’d be with a fast ball to your head but you got a little heated right there that is the announcers version of a fast ball at the head leaving everybody in the dark first and third two outs 0 and two to Machado here’s the pitch from Lorenzan manny takes low one ball and two strikes lorenson has been really susceptible to the long ball this year Jesse he’s given up a home run in 10 of his 14 outings this year including the last four consecutive ones the one thing he’s done well is most of them did solo shots but let’s see if Manny can change that friend one and two is off the plate not by much count now two balls two strikes the other thing with Lorenzan to be aware of here he’s thrown more wild pitches this year than anybody in baseball not afraid of him for pork and he’s got nine of them rise at first wade to third two and two to Manny here’s the pitch machado flinches and takes on the outside corner strength three called good fast and he freezes Manny to end the inning padres’s get a run on three hits but they leave two guys and we’ll head to the sixth inning in San Diego it is now the Royals four and the Padres’s one on the Padres’s radio network tony Gwyn Jr here baseball season is upon us which means long days and restless nights so first pitch change up for a strike nothing at one wii came on to get the final out last inning after Paveta was removed final line for the Padre starter a one pitch he swung on a miss four and two/3 four runs six hits two walks three strikeouts petta gave up two homers that accounted for all four runs and he threw 84 pitches as Bob pointed out I mean maybe two batters into the game perez here serves one out into right center tyler Wade to the gap makes the catch one away command was off almost from jump for Nick here tonight and uh boy I’m almost tempted to say it could have been worse for Nick Pett i don’t think that’s an unfair assessment Jesse and I thought he did a really nice job of of battling even though he didn’t have very good command of his fast ball especially to the right-hand batters he just couldn’t get it inside of them he didn’t have consistent command of his curve both do some excellent ones which is sort of a tease for you right first pitch to the left hand batting tag Leona strike you throw a nasty one you feel like okay I I I can throw nasty ones tonight let me stick with it but he hung quite a few as well and did a nice job of just trying to keep the Padres’s close but it caught up in the fifth broken back grounder to the right side charged by Arise has a nice friendly hop right by the bag steps on first just like that two down fans who’s on deck for the Padres’s in the six is brought to you by Timberch decking and railing everything wood should beat visit timbertech.com and coming up in the six for the Padres it’s going to be Gavin Sheets Dander Bogarts and Jake Croninwood base is empty two outs freddy Firm mean who began the trouble last inning with a lead walk is at the plate wandi delivers and this is way up and away at 96 miles an hour ball one i mean officially 0 for one line to left in the second one and0 is again way upstairs two balls and no strikes and Elias Diaz looking out to Wandi Baralta and often times you see the catcher kind of put their palms down as if to say “Hey settle in.” Peralta did it to himself here’s the two and a broken bat one hopper out to second base broner has got it long throw to first in time at least one base hit by far the longest hitting streak of his career 0 for two so far tonight he’s lined to right and flown to left third look at Lorenzan and the first pitch is a change up that kind of floats in hits the outside corner and a called strike nothing in one cheats a dozen home runs already just three shy of his careerh high here’s the 0 and one and Gavin swings and loops it in the air foul above the Kansas City dugout on the left side nothing in two out of town scoreboard brought to you by KMG Psychiatry official mental health partner of the Padres’s Radio Network offering TMS transcranial magnetic stimulation to lift the fog of depression and restore clarity visit kmg psychiatry.com oh and two lorenzan delivers and Sheets takes one that bounced a couple of feet in front of the plate for a ball one and two padre’s third place in the West five in back of the Dodgers one and a half behind the Giants who of course are in second place so we begin our night by taking a look at those two teams dodgers hosting the Nationals and leading four to one in the top of the fifth inning one and two and Sheets takes inside two balls two strikes giants meanwhile this for some good scheduling they’re hosting the Red Sox raphael Devers gets to face his former team and they are 33 in the bottom of the fourth de 0 for two in that game so far for Jesse you know he’s trying to get some revenge there two and two and Sheets able to wait on that one and line it foul the other one i would imagine the Devils was probably taking some ground balls at first base also in the pregame just to show his former team that that he could do it and he was willing to do it that whole thing man you could uh he could write a novel just on the last month really two two sheets swings and misses strike three good curveball from Lorenzo only his fourth strike out of the night but he’s been very effective and one down here in the bottom of the sixth inning you know we talked about Lorenz and what he’s done tonight and Jesse you explained it perfectly it’s been a a kitchen sink night and he’s got all these pitches he doesn’t always use all of them as frequently as he’s used them tonight but it’s been everything across the board just an equal mix and really very few mistakes in the middle of the zone getting the Padres’s to expand the zone a little bit more than I think they’d like to one out nobody on bogarts takes a fast ball strike xander singled in the second inning and has also drawn a walk so he’s still officially six for his last six at the dish lorenzan both heels on the rubber looking straight ahead at Salvador Perez now out of the wind up he deals and the 01 pitch is downstairs one ball and one strike to Bogarts who fell behind 0 and2 in the fourth inning and eventually blew a walk on the eighth pitch of the atbat one out nobody on down by three and a one-1 pitch banged on the ground foul left side one and two continuing with the scores in Minneapolis how about Brewer rookie righty Jacob Misarowski perfect through six and then a walk and a home run but began his career with 11 straight no hit innings brewers up 17-2 in the ninth christian Yelich has driven at eighth and that kid has been unbelievable there’s a little number off the end of the bat rolling pal at first base i think maybe as equally as impressive as his stuff Jesse is his nickname the Slim Reaper very tall extremely skinny but he throws like 102 and yes that is an absolutely elite nickname the Slim Reaper we got a chance to see some of the highlights from his outing today and point did you see some bad swings on some nasty stuff it was pretty impressive there’s one in particular that you will see for the next 20 minutes total side note not to take a shot of the Twins there’s the one and two and Bogart’s grounds a foul twin City Connect uniform we need We need a new version terrible terrible you’re officially calling them out on their city connect like by far the worst ones in the history of the program wow that’s quite a statement right there Jess i stand by one and two to Bogards having another long AB here and Xander another foul ball at the plate is this a carryover from your anger at Riper Riper for not calling the signaling the foul ball no no no separate 50 okay nationals by the way have gotten a run back at Dodger Stadium it’s 4-2 in the fifth in the NL East Mets have been reeling phillies have been hot came into today tied they went head-to-head tonight in southeastern Pennsylvania and the Phils beat the Mets 10 to2 here’s the one and two bogards takes low so the Mets have now lost seven in a row and the Phillies move into sole possession of first place in the National League East one out nobody on bottom of the sixth 4-1 Royals two and two to Bogarts and Xander another foul ball this one into the AC dugout on the left side wow that was the eighth pitch of this at bat yeah Xander really making them work and again it’s been Lorenzan every pitch sort of starts like it’s going to be on the outer third or the inner third right at the knees and at the very last second it’s got movement on it one way or another and it ends up out of the zone but Xander doing a nice job of not taking any chance of the two strikes you got to swing and stay alive and that’s exactly what he’s doing coming up on 90 pitches now and the two- two line the other way into right field how about another Xander Bogart’s opposite field single on the ninth pitch of his at bat and he is now seven for his last seven good for Xander and we talked earlier about the fact that really he’s sort of been a bad luck candidate a lot of this season in terms of hard hit balls barrel dump balls really having nothing to show for it now the last few days Jesse hitting some rockets putting together some great plate appearances getting a little bit of luck also on an infield single yesterday so good to see Xander finally getting rewarded and that nine pitch at bat will end the night for Michael Lorenzan the Kansas City manager Maxero has come out to make a pitching change so the Padres’s with a man aboard one down and Cordenworth coming great moments in baseball have been broadcast on the radio since 1921 smith Clarks went into right down the line it may go crazy folks go crazy it’s a home run and the Cardinals have won the game by the MLB app and mlb.com 96 mph he’s got a slider to go with it jesse he’s only allowed one run in his last 16 trips to the mound so the Potters have their work cut out for him his pitching change and this slowdown in action is brought to you by Heiserve jake Cronorth going to face him for the second time in his career lefty to lefty hard thrower and first pitch swinging cronorth knocks one foul into the netting right above the Royal on deck circle left side nothing and one ogard at first one out in the six padres’s who trailed four nothing are now behind four to one trying to chip away against the Kansas City bullpen here’s the 01 hard hit grounder up the middle and India who was going towards first ends up not being able to reach it bogart’s wheels around he’ll go first to third and the Padres’s runners on the corners and one out here in the six that way Jake not getting beat by the lefty lefty matchup gets the fast ball inside is able to fight it back up the middle and this has been a really really effective Kansas City bullpen this season Jesse they got the seventh best run average but even more importantly their save percentage conversion is the best in all of Major League Baseball at 77% in other words when they come down with the lead they’ve been better than anybody else in Major League Baseball are holding on to a little weird there too india for whatever reason was kind of going towards first and that ball went to his right so he had to slam on the brakes go and try and track it down he couldn’t i think he had he not been moving it was pretty much an easy play for him to make and I’m wondering if it because these infielders a lot of them have the pitch come and they know a pitch is coming they probably sensed okay he’s going to come inside maybe I need to play him to pull ended up not working out now Jose Glacius will pinch it for Trenton Brooks and he takes inside ball one running at first bogarts at third one out got to get something here right 10 pitch and a good slider on the inside corner one and one to a Glacius who is appearing in his 51st game hitting 222 on the season designated hitter to start last night at Dodger Stadium one-1 pitch basketball strike down the middle of 96 and now one and two like to get that one padres’s two for eight with runners in scoring position tonight one and two to the count here’s the pitch and a Glacius gets the slider knocks it into right field and a base hit bogarts will come in to score mosaic Glacius a pinch hit RBI single a 4-2 game here in the sixth inning and three straight Padre hits here with one out that is a professional AB right there that is a veteran understanding exactly what he’s doing up there the pitch that he’s likely to get he knew he saw some fast balls and Serba likes to go with the back door breaking ball to the right-handers we’ve seen Jose Glacius do this multiple times Jesse where late in the count he tried to anticipate a pitch he guessed perfectly and was able to line that in right field now Diaz another right-handed batter they had a wraparound slider apparently on the outside corner and a called strike nothing in one the Glaciius at first Croninorth at second and one out here in the sixth inning padres’s have gotten another trail by two and obviously an opportunity for more no balls and a strike here’s the pitch and a swing and a miss diaz went chasing a fast ball was a little bit up and out of the zone nothing in two from the hardthrowing left-handed reliever Anhill Serpa serpa is set now the O2 and Diaz takes off tried to go another rung up the ladder and Elias wasn’t going to go chasing it padres’s now out hitting the Royals 7 to6 kansas City has got a three-run homer that is the difference in the game one and two diaz lines it sharply foul on the right side so the cow remains one and two book by the way is now closed on the starter Lorenzan two runs on five hits in five and a third three walks four striker two on and one out the one-two Diaz hits it on the ground slowly off the mound india has got it near second steps on the bag and the throw to first is in time that is an inning ending double play padres’s get a run on three hits they leave one guy on base and we’ll head to the seventh in San Diego now the Royals four in the Padres’s two on the Padres’s radio network a board of bland seltzers try the coolest the shuffle with everything else taking place in the ninth inning last night but Shawn really really struggled with his command walked a couple of guys and was charged with a couple of runs as that one nearly got away pitch inside one and one yeah the walks have not been a problem for Shawn this season he only had one other outing Jesse where he walked two and that was in the game where he went two and two/3 against Seattle earlier they’re tied two and one so he’s throwing strikes doing a nice job with the fast ball in the slider did allow two runs yesterday because of the free passes issued and this is the first time all season Jesse that he’s going in backto-back nights two and one loftton takes inside ball three it was just 11 pitches yesterday when all was said and done yeah it wasn’t a big workload but he’d been a nice little streak and not a lot of run in his previous eight appearances three and one and a hard headliner foul deep into the Terrace level behind the Padre dugout on the right side so it’s now three and two he came into a very hot situation last night as well 3-2 pitch is popped up in a very shallow right field runner back from second we’ll call off Tatis who’s coming in and Jake makes the catch run away you make a great point Jesse because I was actually trying to put myself into his shoes last night after the rhubarb right i mean everybody’s out on the field your adrenaline is pumping you’re all you’re all fired up and then oh by the way you’ve got to get loose and go into the ball game i’ve been in those types of situations and you really have to try to control your adrenaline at that point and just get focused on oh yeah get back to making pitches to say nothing of the fact that oh by the way he just sprinted the 400 ft yes you know from the right field bullpen to the back stop pitch inside and ball one of the left hand hitting his belt yeah and your your head’s on a swivel you’re running in there full speed you don’t know what to expect you don’t want to get blindsided by somebody one and0 is Bell takes a not a normal outing I guess nope one out nobody on top of the seventh on the strike and Isbell fouls it away trustin will score royals four Padres’s two kansas City has scored the first four runs of this game padres’s got one back in the fifth one back in the sixth so now Reynolds trying to keep it where it’s at here in the top of the seventh ball and two strikes here’s the pitch and Isbel takes way high two balls and two strikes from Reynolds that 98 mph fast ball got a little bit away from it isbel 0 for one on the night struck out against Pavetta in the third inning had a sack bunt in the fifth there’s the two and two and way outside ball three that sweeper did not sweep three and two and Isbel swings and misses strike three chase a high fast ball two down in the top of the seventh inning create unforgettable memories in a 2025 game with a group of friends or family hospitality spaces are the perfect setting to socialize while making game day easy with all-inclusive food and beverage packages book your outing today at padres.com/groups [Music] here’s Jonathan India’s got the biggest swing of the night a three-run homer back in the fifth inning first pitch swinging here and missing no balls in a strike padres’s continuing this long stretch 26 games in 27 days three against the Royals three against the Nats slider for a strike 0 and2 and then finally a day off on Thursday in Cincinnati but Nick Paveta 4 and 2/3 tonight the starter Brian Berard 4 and 2/3 last night steven Kick thankfully on Wednesday worked into the seventh inning at Dodger Stadium but it’s not going to get any easier tomorrow for this Padre bullpen 02 pitch India check swing on a pitch low and outside but he did not go and now one and two as far as tomorrow’s game it’ll be Dylan Cease against lefty Noah Cameron so hopefully Dylan will be dealing one and two little tapper foul behind the plate there’s two guys they need to start getting the longer outings out of and that is Dylan CE and Nick Paveta I mean look the other guys have done a great job are Andy Vosquez and Kick and Ber excellent But those other two guys are the guys that you really anticipate getting some deeper innings out of one two India muscles it in the air foul behind first base a rise over towards that sidewall he’ll run out of room and it comes down to the fifth row still one and two on India it is uh it has been a very tough time to not be getting longer outings out of those guys in particular light is kind of at the end of the tunnel but really until the All-Star break not a lot of breathing room in terms of the schedule here’s the one and two that is just up and in two balls two strikes gide is proclivity for getting hit by a pitch nearly showed up there kind of flinched the arm and the shoulder out a little bit at the last second but it missed it he is very skilled in that department 2-2 and a hard-hit liner over Machado fair up the left field line that’ll go down into that left field corner gavin Sheets has to go dig it out and what a night for Jonathan India standing at second base with a two-out double you know I was very curious to see what Jonathan India had coming into this ball game Jesse and the reason for that is he injured his shoulder last Friday he had a diving play up the middle hyperextended the shoulder and had to take a little bit of time off and it was his front shoulder also the left shoulder and often times with hitters when that front shoulder gets compromised he just can’t get to the ball as quickly and sure enough after that injury he had been one for his next 18 but Jesse tonight he’s shown that that shoulder is not an issue at all with the home run on the hanging breaking ball and now jumping on a 97 mph heater and ripping that into the corner now Bobby Wit Jr and he takes high ball one india off the bat just now 111 off the bat third hardest hit ball of the night after a Sheets foul ball and Bobby Wood Junior’s homer one pitch is in the air to right center field that should end the inning fernando is there and he makes the cap so a two out double for India but he’s left at second base time to scratch it petco Royals four Padres’s two on the Padres’s radio network cole’s fine flooring has closed and let’s see if you can figure out the following baseball MLB.com lead off against the new Kansas City pitcher right-hander Lucas Ersick they have also made a switch in the outfield the left fielder Nick Loftton is now out of the game true Waters takes over and bath remodelers for more than 30 years visit myaritchenbath.com to book your free consultation today here’s Fernando and Tatis takes a 97 mph fast ball first strike right on the outside corner nothing at one yeah Ersk throws the ball pretty darn hard he’s had a nice season as you mentioned Jesse with the 1.71 earn run average missed a little bit of time with some back issues but back at it well you ain’t going to miss it a slider strike too you’re going to see a lot of those the slider is the primary weapon that he goes to at 85 mph but as we’ve already seen he also has the four seamer at 97 and a sinker to go with it oh and two to Tatis and he almost hit him unbelievable it was a slider but it ran in and Fernando spun out of the way and Tatis gave him a look remember earlier tonight Fernando had a fast ball whiz right over his head and this one right underneath of his left elbow it’s almost like he’s a ball magnet right now Jesse i mean that’s a breaking ball missed a spot by six feet one and two and Tatis takes the slider that goes outside two balls two strength goodness gracious two and two and a ground ball foul at third there is an element certainly of everybody wants to pitch him in and that is totally understandable and within reason however here’s the 2-2 swing on a slider in the dirt ball three we have seen way too many pitchers in this game particularly this year not have the command to do that in really kind of any sort of reasonable way yep three and two and he takes loan outside ball four second time tonight has taken a walk and now the tying run will come to the plate with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning you know Jess I really wonder for as an industry standpoint if they’re just not teaching these kids how to how to command the pitches and we know the answer to that a lot of organizations all they care about is stuff how hard can you throw how much can you spin it how much can you rip through your breaking pitches lost are the days where you were actually taught how to pitch inside for strikes a rise hits one foul right side pitch inside off the plate for effect and to pitch way off the plate when you actually have to knock somebody down and there is a time and a place for that but you have to be able to learn how to do all three of those types of pitching inside and I just don’t know if you know young players are being taught that anymore throw to first fernando goes back in standing a 15 out of 17 swiping bags this year padres’s have a rise in the dish down 42 with one out here in the seventh inning fernando a very modest lead at first base not running and Arise grounds it to the right side india to his left has got it pivots goes to second one hard slide turn to first not in time bang bang but Arise able to beat it out and that is obviously critical because it will allow Manny Machado to come to bat here representing a potential tying run good effort by India he had to go to his left to get that one spun pretty quickly and it was able to hit Wit Junior right in the chest luis Sia doing a nice job of getting out of the box early and digging hard to make sure he didn’t get doubled up here comes the lumber brought to you by Dixie Line Lumber and Home Centers fix it build it enjoy it first pitch coming and Machado smacks it foul the other way strike one fernando did go in hard it was clean all the way and never actually made any contact with Whit you just don’t see it often in 2025 but Tatis understandably based on the game circumstance and other stuff was going after it ball outside and now one and one to Machado manny getting only his second ever look at Lucas Kersley rise it first two down in the bottom of the seventh 4-2 Royals one and one here’s the pit and he takes and the fast ball misses down and away two and one Padres’s found themselves down four nothing going to the bottom of the fifth inning got a run in the fifth got another in the sixth and now trying to scratch again here in the seventh two-1 pitch right down the middle j looked like he was taken all the way and the cat is now two and two Bay Area guy former athletic now Royal and the 2-2 is low ball three so Rise will be on the move here padres’s down by two in the bottom of the seventh inning steps off or was Machado with a timeout i think it was a timeout either way Brusig now set and ready to go three and two arise runs manny swings hammers it in the air down the left field line that is a fair ball into the corner and it hops up against the wall goes out of play that’ll cost the Padres’s a run arise going to have to stop at third on the rule book double manny with a missile to left and it hopped over the little wall in the corner there so instead of an RBI double Arise has to stop at third base and now two on and two out for Gavin Chief bad break for the Padres’s absolute rocket off the bat of Manny Machado ursa tried to stay away from him that entire plate appearance and he did successfully all the way until that pitch he missed inner half manny did not miss it hardest hit ball of this game 114 off the bat for Machado so instead of four to three with Manny at second two outs it’s four to two with Manny at second and a rise at third for Gavin Sheets first pitch coming gavin leans back takes a high strike wow nothing in one tying run at second base with two outs here in the seventh inning 01 pitch cheats hits it up the middle into center and a base hit verizon has scored on his way this game is tied thanks to Gavin Cheats two-run single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh and it’s four to four change up in the zone and Gavin Sheets has been seen off speed pitches all season long in fact he’s seen more off speed pitches than any other batter in all of Major League Baseball they don’t want to throw him fast balls because they know he can do damage on him but he does some damage right there on the change up in the zone to get this game tied so the Pods have come all the way back from trailing 4 nothing and it is now 44 in the seventh inning xander Bogarts who if you haven’t been paying attention the last I don’t know 24 hours the hottest hitter on the team is coming up sellout crowd of 43,574 is as into it right now as they have been at any point tonight cheats at first two down for Bogarts who’s two for two tonight with a walk and seven for his last seven verse has given up the lead and now the Padres’s trying to really ruin his night first pitch to Bogarts is a fastball strike on the inside corner in 97 nothing and one padres’s are already going against the odds jesse as we mentioned earlier the Royals have been the best team in all of Major League Baseball at not blowing saves and they’ve already got the blowing save here this in one to Bogard xander with a big swing fouls it at the plate strike two cheats with that two-run single not only ties the game but also extends his hitting streak to 11 after the bad break on the automatic double great to be able to see somebody come through and make that not happen one of those things when when it’s not going well you feel like you can’t recover from not the case tonight here’s the 0 and two boggards takes in the dirt outside and Salvador Perez able to kind of swat it down and keep it close enough preventing Sheets from advancing into scoring position now Gavin Sheets has just done such a great job Jesse all season long we’ve seen him with fudge hits and he’s earned his playing time i mean there’s a reason that he’s got the hitting streak going it’s because he’s earned the opportunity to be an everyday guy finding ways to get him in the lineup and he just keeps continuing to come through versig just got the warning about coming set too quickly one and two to Xander Bogart tie game in the seventh here’s the one and two reach for it bounce the other way into right field another hit for Bogart pete’s going to try and go to third gagle Young’s throw and the tag is not in time xander now eight for his last eight and Sheets challenging Pagleó who’s got a great arm and just barely getting in there the go-ahead run is now 90 ft away and maybe just maybe things are starting to equal out for Xander Bogarts who for a good part of this season was hitting rockets right at guys and now things are going his way Jesse and it’s been a little bit of everything hasn’t it it’s been power to the left side we’ve seen him hit it up the middle now he’s seeing him going opposite field as well tanner Bogu’s on fire yeah you’re talking about evening it out i mean that ball initially hit the ground about 4 in in front of the plate and then bounced through the right side here’s Croninworth two on and two out and he takes outside ball one only the third time this year Ersig has given up more than one run in an outing here’s the one and0 cronorth swings and misses it a fast that even hit a ball in a straight hers gave up two runs May 21st in San Francisco and two runs two days later in Minnesota that’s it till tonight balling a strike ronworth fouls it back and now one and two take the seventh guy to bat this inning but in three straight two out hits here in the bottom of the seventh continuing a trend we have seen all year 44 game at Becca bogart’s at first cheats at third two down ronworth one out of three he singled last inning it behind one and two and this pitch is in the third two balls and two strikes for Mercy ersig is thrown only one wild pitch this year but obviously at the ready leading down the third base line representing the potential go-ahead run andre is trying to lead for the first time tonight here’s the 2-2 it’s low and now three balls and two strikes to Cron having a tough time with that change up tonight Jesse he hung that one to Gavin Sheets and now he’s bouncing them to Jake Cronorth as a batter you start to eliminate that pitch you know that you can just focus a little bit more up to that that heater or the hanging change up that’s actually hitable he got a couple really bad swings on fast ball and as it brought him one three and two bogarts will be on the move here’s the pitch jake reaches for it bounces it up the middle whit has it right near second base and the throw to first is in time to end the inning padres’s though do what they needed to do got a couple of runs on three hits here in the bottom of the seventh and we’ll head to the eighth at Petco Park 44 against the Royals on the Padres’s radio net introducing baseball’s all new national pregame show MLV tonight going let’s pause 10 seconds for station identification on the Padres’s radio network kwf and KWFN HD1 San Diego hi this is Michael King the Padres’s play here on San Diego’s number one station 973 the fan and Bon Sports Station pitching change brought to you by Sids Carpet Barn sid’s Carpet Barn stands alone as San Diego’s floor covering leader from a huge selection of premium high-end choices to quality budget friendly options sids has you covered 44 game eighth inning michael Garcia leads off against Jason Adam and he takes a perfect pitch slider for a called strike nothing at one garcia who had a great series for these guys in Texas earlier this week has stayed hot tonight two for three with a double 0 and one and Garcia steps back from a nasty slider that’s a called strike two jason Adam for the 38th time this season jeff 1.46 run average only two runs allowed in his last 18 appearances oh and two to Garcia and he just got a piece of a fast ball and fouled it back pascantino on deck and then Salvador Perez three four and five for KC here in the eighth inning royals scored the first four runs of this game padres’s have scored the last four runs of this game oh and two and a pitch to Garcia a slider looped up the middle and that’s center of base hit wade into the gap in left center to get it he’ll send it in and a nice job by Tyler Wade to hold Garcia to a single but that’s the third hit of the night for the Royals third baseman and a leadoff base hit here in the eighth well he’s really done a nice job of making some adjustments in his swing Jesse last year he was way out on his front foot a lot it was really causing him trouble especially on fast balls because he was going towards the balls the ball is coming towards him this year he’s not doing that as much he’s not lunging he’s waiting still has that flat back pass through the zone and really a singles machine and also now a top 10 hitter in the American League is Basquantino left-hand batter sends it in the air foul up the left field line nothing at one garcia we talked about it earlier is uh very capable of stealing bases however he’s been caught a bunch this year including in the fourth inning tonight 01 is up and away one ball and one strike and so you kind of wonder right if you’re Matt Petero in the Kansas City dugout are you maybe putting the yellow light or the red light up for Mikel Garcia in a tie game eighth inning especially with a power bat at the D one and one adam delivers and Pascino takes way up and away two balls in the start garcia last year 37 out of 39 stealing bases had the third most steals in the American League but this year he is now 15 for 23 two and one throw overs and he goes back in standing up without a tag from a rock adam working from that first base side of the rubber comes set two and one to pass Quintino here’s the pit taken and a back up breaking ball on the outside quarter for strength two percy at first nobody out tie game eighth inning two and two the pitch and Pascino takes in the dirt nice backhanded stop by Elias that fills the count three and two ask watch tonight one out of three with a single he’s also flown out and ground today was reached safely in 31 out of his last 32 games steve Garcia runs on three and two arise holding him he is and the pitch way outside ball four so a single and a walk to begin the top of the eighth inning and now two men aboard for the future Hall of Famer Salvador Perez you mentioned it earlier though Jesse you’ve got the obligatory catcher at the plate a good chance to roll that double play might as well make it a triple play at this i like it they’re going to be a pinch runner over at first base i believe that is Tyler Tolbert who will take over for Pascantino apologize it is John Rae who is going to pinch it pinch run so they get a speed upgrade at first base brave running for Pascino garcia already with good wheels is at second and nobody out in a tie game eighth inning salvador Perez 0 for three he is popped out once and lined out twice and yes he has grounded into more double plays than any other Royal this season he knocks it right to Machado at third they can go around the horn adam a look back ed Garcia the lead runner now the pitch and Perez takes a slider on the outside corner for a strike nothing in one rean Garcia take their leads the 01 pitch is lined over Machado into left field little base hit beats charging it he’s got it garcia’s on his way throw to the plate is coming and not in time go ahead rbi single for Salvador Perez and the Royals go back in front it’s five to four hanging slider right there for Perez the veteran’s not going to miss one of those so three straight Royals reach to begin the inning they have scored a run and they look for more as Kagleon stands in left-hand hitter takes a change up outside ball one 39th RBI of the year for big Salvador Pere he’s at first ray at second still nobody out one and0 kaggleó way out in front of a slot swings and misses to even the counted a ball in a strike kagleion one for three tonight he doubled in the second and since then he has twice grounded out to arrive it his first two major league home runs yesterday in Texas here’s the one and one and Kaggleon another wild swing and a miss this time the change up and it’s one and two david Morgan starting to meet up behind Jason Adam at this point runners lead at first and second a ball in two strikes adam ready and a pitch to Kaggleon misses away two and two steady diet of off speed to the unslubber adam comes set and ready now the 2-2 Magleó swings pops it up foul up the first baseline that’ll come down into the seats all the way in the 24th row two sections beyond the Padre Dugget that was another slider by the way he has yet to see a fast ball from Jason Adams two- two pitch and a foul ball at the plate just got a piece of another change kagleó is very big very strong he can hit the ball a very long way but he also swings and misses a ton so no real surprise to see Adam working in this way perez at first ray the pinch runner at second base two and two again to Kagleion this will be the seventh pitch of the at bat and it is a fast ball but it misses way high and now the count is full three and two you know that fast ball is so far out of the zone Jesse you wonder if it really helped to set up anything else that they want to go with right here you got to imagine it’s probably going to be something off speed changer would be my guess three and two runners stay put tag Leon swings and misses frank three got him on the slider back door one of the better ones that Jason has thrown in that plate appearance as well most of the other sliders had been inside they were going change away but this time he starts the slider off the plate a little bit catch the outside corner gets we own the swing over the top so the elusive first down here in the top of the eighth inning and now Fine will be the batter adam looking for that ground ball lead runner Rave goes pitches a strike no throw and John Rae steals third base for stayed put at first I guess so the double play is still in order ray with his second steal of the year period 17 in TripleA Omaha 0 and one for me squares to bunt pulls it back and takes in the dirt good block dia has one ball and one strike so for me trying to put the bunt in the minds of the Padres something the Royals will definitely do particularly at the bottom of the order one and one with the infield drawn in now he does square he misses a bunt and that is strength two might have tipped it into Diaz Smith either way now a ball in two strikes runners lead first and third one and two to for me adam delivers and right on the outside corner strike three called with a slider for backto back haze the first two outs here in the eighth and now two runners will come to bat for the first time tonight as Adam tries to strain guys at first and third frustrating plate appearance for Freddy Fine he can’t get the blunt down on the first two opportunities and then Jason Adam paints him with a slide on the outside corner waters a switch hitter batting left-handed he’s slumping big time first pitch from Adams swung on line into right field that’s down and a base hit brave will come in to score as Tatis’s throw goes to second base an RBI single for Drew Waters and the Royals now lead it six to four you know Jesse a similar theme right now for Jason Adam as we were talking about with Nick Petta where Nick would throw some really good pitches and then hang one it was a similar situation situation right here now for Jason Adam where he makes a great pitch to punch out Freddy Fine but then a first pitch hanging slider to waters that he’s able to jump all over now Isbel will be the seventh guy to bat in the inning manny in at third he loves to bunt left-handed hitter against Adams and he takes outside ball one and yet Adam’s command has just generally been off pretty much the entire inning now he’s up over 25 pitches yeah that’s the last thing that anybody in this Padre bullpen needs right now Jesse is an extended inning in terms of the pitch count one and0 and a swing and a miss at a change up all right is Bell 0 for two the couple of strikeouts also a sacrifice his league leading eight six to four Royals here with two on and two out in the top of the eighth inning kansas City has answered back after the Padres’s tied it up one and on is Bellins with misses strike two got to figure end the line soon for Jason Adam class drivers down 28 and David Morgan appears to be ready in the Padre Bull one and two to Isel runners leaded first and second here’s the pitch from Adam and a little knocked ground ball just wide of the bag at third and he was playing pretty well off the line and he got a change up outside and just took a shot luckily for the Padres’s it was not fair waters at first perez at second two down one and two to Isel the pitch from Adam swung on and miss strike three got him to reach for a high fast ball third strike out of the inning for Jason Adam but the Royals got a couple of runs on three hits they leave two guys on base and we go to the bottom of the eighth inning now six to four Kansas City on the pad see if you can figure out the following baseball slang term today’s phrase is oppo taco do you know what it MLB.com in the seventh but the Royals just answered back with two in the top of this eighth inning against Jason Adam and now the Padres’s will take their crack at righthander Steven Cruz who relieves Lucas got both runs on three hits against her in a long seventh inning pitching change brought to you by Valvaline instant oil change valvaline is your 15minute instant drive-thru oil change visit socal oilchange.com for directions and discounts that’s socal oil change.com second at bat for Jose Iglacius and he takes a fastball at the bottom of the zone 99 miles an hour and strike one you’re going to see the hard fast ball that he just started off with a glacius he’s got a slider to go with it he’ll throw a cutter at times as well jess and one cruz misses outside with the slider at an easy 94 he has been human though lately i mean I gave you the stats on some of the other relievers that have come in and they’ve allowed one run over their last 18 outings but he’s allowed a couple runs in his last few trips to the hill one and one a Glacius swings pops it up right side of the infield kaggle Leone now playing first and right near the grass cut out but on the dirt there and he makes the catch for the first out of the inning yeah Ra who pinch ran in the top of the inning for Pascino stays in to play right and Kagleion who was in right now covers Pascortino at first base base is empty and one away for Elias Diaz 0 for three padres’s trail by two in the eighth and a first pitch fast outside 1 and0 cruz the big strong righty delivers and the 10 pitch is on the inside corner but called a ball and when I say big strong righty uh he very big Steven Cruz 67 225 and he looks every bit of it out two pitch is inside 3 and 0 tyler Wade waits on deck and that it would be the top of the order rio pitched Diaz taken all the way and a fast ball missing high a one out walk here in the bottom of the eighth inning time for our next game preview but a reminder the party starts before the game on the coaster train join the winning team buy your coaster train tickets to Padre games and score big at goctd.com/padres 4:15 tomorrow for Fox and Dylan CE on the mound against lefty Noah Cameron he has it first one out for Tyler Wade and he’ll take a fast ball strike at the top of the zone tyler tried to bunt his way aboard last time wanted to drag it up the first baseline but got it a little bit too close to the pitcher using swings here loops it the other way that’ll be over the third baseman Garcia and into left field a base hit so the Padres’s set it up the way they needed to here in the bottom of the eighth inning they will get Tatis up with two on and one out trailing six to fourth a nice little piece of hitting right there by Tyler Wade that’s a nasty cutter 95 mph in on his hands and he’s able to keep his hands inside just enough to be able to fight that one off into left field brandon Lockbridge now will pinch run for Leas Diaz at second base and if you’re thinking to yourself well he’s the the first run not the tying run i think the idea is with Wade at first who’s obviously really fast something in the gap here you want to make sure both runs can score first pitch coming and Fernando sends it in the air foul out of play right side nothing in one six to four Royals in the bottom of the eighth inning wade at first Lockage at second one out tatiso for two but he’s walked twice here’s the 0 and one and Fernando takes down and in the other thing Fernando has done tonight is twice have to get out of away from a pitch that very nearly hit him including a fast ball that went right over his head from Lorenza one and one cruz will kick and fire and Tati swings and misses at a 99 mph fast ball strike two that was the match up we were hoping to see right Jesse we know that Fernando can catch up to anybody’s fast ball he’s going to see at least one during this plate appearance there it was very tip top part of the zone not able to catch up one and two now the pitch and Tatis breaks his bat clears it behind second india makes the catch they called the infield fly rule very very late but they called it either way two down wade still at first Lockidge still at second and Luis Rise will try and keep the line moving but off the field Fernando giving a little bit of a scouting report to Machado who’s on deck yeah that was a slider that actually didn’t slide Jesse it sort of backed up and that’s the reason that it was jamming in the hands of Fernando first pitch to arise is outside ball one [Music] 10 runs 21 hits now between the two teams six to four Royals in the bottom of the eighth one and0 to arrive tying run is at first base pitch is hit on the ground right to India at second base he’ll go to first and in time to end the no runs a hit padres’s lead two guys on and if the pods are going to win tonight they will have to do so in walk-off fashion to the ninth at Petco Park moments in baseball have been broadcast on the radio since 1921 smith courts wanted him to right down the line it may go crazy folks go crazy it’s a home run and the Cardinals have won the game by the three-2 and a home run by the Wizards catch the next unforgettable call on the MLB app and MLB.com let’s see if we can figure out the following baseball slang term today’s phrase is oppo taco do you know what it means oppo taco a home run hit to the opposite field with an off taco his 13th and it’s a one- run game expand your vocabulary by listening to every game on the MLB app and mlb.com every game night is a chance to go big with MLB Big Inn turn on baseball’s only nightly show that brings you the biggest plays of the night live and commercial free stretch him out no one stacks more clux plays into one live show with up to four games on a single screen out of here he is a fire knocked off change up game night with baseball’s biggest game changer mlb Big Inning presented by Bet MGM every night all season long on MLB.TV take a hack at guessing which baseball player or manager said the following i really don’t know what to say i’m just uh so happy I gave something these people cheer we all did i mean it was a great game both teams played incredible it was a great game that’s Mike Piaza after he hit an eighth inning go-ahad home run in the first New York Mets home game after 9/11 hear moments like this and more on the MLB app and MLB.com the game tonight start of the ninth inning top of the order coming up for Kansas City and they will face David Morgan who relieves Jason Adam adam allowed two runs on three hits last inning while throwing 30 pitches pitching change brought to you by Myiramar Kitchen and Bath when it’s time to upgrade your kitchen or bath think of San Diego’s top kitchen and bath remodelers for more than 30 years visit myramaritchenbath.com to book your free consultation today india and then Wit and Garcia and all three have done real damage here tonight morgan delivers and the hard throwing righty gets a foul ball straight back on a 98 mph fast ball nothing at one i’ve really enjoyed watching David Morgan pitch so far this season jesse done a nice job with the 2.31 earn run average we know that he’s got the big arm pumping it up there 98 99 miles an hour but has a very nice breaking ball to go with it as well no balls in his strength indians had a three-run homer and a double tonight and this is a slider that slides outside one and one have you heard the story of his curveball how he got his curveball going no so he’s a short stop in college comes to the fourth here he’s not drafted his coach says “Hey why don’t you go pitch some summer ball?” One and one and India hits it hard on the line into left field another base hit third of the night for Jonathan India she sends it back in in a leadoff single here in the top of the ninth inning so David goes to summer ball and all of a sudden he realizes hey I can throw a ball 95 miles an hour maybe my future isn’t necessarily as a short stop maybe I can do something as a pitcher so he hears about a try out camp coming up figures I’m going to go to this try out camp try to light up the radar gun see what I can do and somebody tells him the night before hey you know they’re not going to sign you unless you have some kind of an offset pitch to go to he goes I don’t have an off pitch he better find one by tomorrow but they’re not going to sign it so he calls up a friend and his friend over the phone talks him through here’s how you throw a curveball tyler Tolbert pinch running has a huge lead bobby Wood Jr the batter runner stays put and a threequarters swing for swipe one so he has his roommate and says “Hey I just got off the phone with my friend he he kind of explained to me how to throw a knuckle curveball can I practice some with you?” So they go out into the parking lot he starts practicing some with his roommate and the next day he goes out there and has enough of a breaking ball that he’s able to get signed well the first Holbert back just ahead of the tag from the rock and that was the birth overnight of the David Morgan breaking incredible home was nearly out on that pick off good quick tag from Roz got a huge lead over there very new in the major leagues does not yet have a steel but he’s very fat there he goes pitch to Whit is a strike throw from Aldonado the tag is Oh not in time first major league stolen base for Tyler Tolbert took 48 bags in the minor leagues last year you can see he can fly boy was he getting him up and down Jesse great crossover step and really just incredible foot speed he’s not like a big long guy with long strides little strides but going fast not a bad throw he just outran it nice quick tag from Croninworth who put the tag back on him when it looked like he might have overslided at second which was a strike so it’s 0 and2 now on Bobby Wit Jr organ delivers and misses bobby Wit Jr one out of four hit a home run back in the first inning one and two morgan delivers and a liner foul right side rustin will score here in the top of the ninth inning royals six and the Padres’s four in the bottom of the ninth pachado Sheets and Bogarts are due up and all three of those guys have contributed here tonight can’t get Xander out one two whit hits it hard on the line into left field cheats comes in to make the cut nicely done but a hard hit first down here in the top of the ninth over back to second base mike El Garcia coming up slider middle of the zone bobby Wick got a really good swing on it fortunately right at Gavin Sheets now you got to make some pitches to Mel Garcia is swinging a real hot right now morgan after that pitch by the way kind of dropped his head like he thought something very bad was going to happen yeah well he knew that the pitch was set up for something bad to happen over at second one away garcia swings to the first pitch pops it up left side of the infield xander backpedaling onto the outfield grass he makes the cap garcia who had hit each of his last three times up makes a quick second out here in the ninth i like that curve ball i know that he’s thrown a lot of sliders tonight so far i don’t think they have been quite as effective as that first pitch breaking ball with Garcia good downward action got him out front trying to work around the lead single by Tolbert or by India and a stolen base by Tolbert john Rae will be the batter he came on as a pinch runner last inning first at bat for the left-handed hitter and Rafe takes a little bit low outside ball one brave another guy that has made his major league debut fairly recently from the 18 games under his belt six for 30 at the dish runner on second two outs one and0 and Ray flinches takes the inside ball two rave made his major league debut at the end of May been up since the uh since then after beginning the year at TripleA two balls and no strikes it’s ter swung on send in the air to center field deep but should be playable tyler Wade is back and right at the edge of the warning craft he will make the catch to end the inning a nice job by Morgan working it around that lead off base hit and the stolen base last chance to dance coming up and in the bottom of the ninth inning it’s the Royals six and the Padres’s moments in baseball have been broadcast on the radio since 1921 smith courts one in right down the line it may go go crazy folks go crazy it’s a home run and the Cardinals have won the game behind the score of three to two and a home run by the Wizards catch the next unforgettable call on the you know what it means oppo taco a home run hit to the opposite field h with an oppo taco his 13th and it’s a one-run game expand your vocabulary by listening to every game on the MLB app and MLB.com take a hack at guessing which baseball player or manager said the following i really don’t know what to say i’m just uh so happy I gave something these people cheer we all did i mean it was a great game both teams played incredible it was a great game that’s Mike Piaza after he hit an eighth inning go-ahad home run in the first New York Mets home game after 911 hear moments like this and more on the MLB app and MLB.com has been brilliant as the closer for Kansas City is on the mound takes over for Steven Cruz who had a scoreless save pitching change brought to you by Sids Carpet Barn sid’s Carpet Barn stands alone as San Diego’s floor covering leader from a huge selection of premium high-end choices to quality budget friendly options sids has you covered machado Sheets and Bogarts against Estis who we have seen so many times over the years as a Rocky and Manny will stand in against him just one for 12 in his career steaves on the season that leads the American League tied with Robert Suarez for most in baseball and he won out of four with a double in a run score first pitch on the way amachado fouls it back strength one fast ball slider change up the repertoire for Estz 95 on the fast ball so not as overpowering as we see out of some quotes he’s in that triple digit range but he’ll keep you honest good slider 0 and one the pitch and he takes and a fast ball strike bottom of the zone he’s behind 0 and2 began his career with the Rockies back in 2016 last pitched in Colorado 2022 an all-star with the Angels in 2023 last year between Anaheim and Philly 02 to Machado in the air down the right field line that’s headed towards the Petco Forge it’s going to go up Taco for Manny Machado and a one-run game in the bottom of the ninth inning it’s six to five no fast ball 96 miles an hour manny Machado is able to drive it opposite field in the typical smooth Manny swing and that’s the second time in recent weeks Jesse that we’ve seen Manny go deep opposite field like that like it’s no problem only the second home run that Estz has allowed this season and now Gavin Sheets will stand in the potential tying run first pitch to him is low one and0 and he did that same thing at Diver Stadium got a fast ball away drove it off opposite field knew the entire time yep that’s going to be gone pitched his sheets at the top of the zone and a strike one and one in his last at bat Cavin had a two-run single to tied the game at four he bats now with his team down by one and the pitch is outside two balls in a strike xander Bogart’s on deck is as hot as anybody in the game eight for his last eight no Padre has ever gone nine for nine here’s the two and one it’s outside ball three bogarts has tied the franchise record eight hits and eight at bats fernando did it last year it’s also been done by Kevin Koozman off Brian Giles Tony Gwyn and Dave Winfield three and one to Sheets here’s the pitch on the way gavin rips it foul up the right field side and now full count three and two that’s some pretty fine company to be in isn’t it Jess tell you what and I mean if this game won’t drive you crazy what wills couldn’t buy ahead three and two cheats pops it up foul back towards us and into the seat and now eight for his last eight royals by a run in the bottom of the ninth padres’s have already gotten a homer from Machado here’s the 3-2 to sheets swung on and popped up shallow left center field went going back from shortstop we will call everybody off and make the catch for the first out of the inning tolbert by the way who ran for India stays into play second base one out nobody on here is Bogar rander in his career against Estz two out of three with a homer six to five Kansas City in the bottom of the ninth inning first pitch coming and Bogart takes a fastball strike and it’s amazing that this game a one-run game in the bottom of the ninth has felt like every other game the Padres’s have played all season long oh and one to Bogart estz delivers ander swings and misses at a slider strike too you mean a roller coaster for gutwrencher Jesse only a slight exaggeration but certainly more often than not it looks something like the pitch bogart’s able to fight it off and foul it back royals lead six to five with one out and nobody on in the bottom of the ninth inning here’s the O2 bogarts takes in the dirt even that take right there Jesse the way Xander really didn’t flinch at it very much you can just tell he’s really sealing the ball well right now all in two strikes there’s Stez ready here’s the pitch and Bogarts gets a fast ball in underneath the hands at 98 m an hour that is now two and two your point about seeing the ball well he’s had an eight pitch block tonight also singled on the ninth pitch that he saw his at bat after that here’s the two and two bogart sps it off again he’s laying off pitches he’s spoiling pitches and then when he gets the opportunity he’s squaring up especially the spoiling part he’s seen a lot of really quality pitches on the corners on the edges with two strikes and has been able to foul him off to stay alive two and two xander swings pops it up right side of the infield tolbert on the dirt will make the catch so back-to-back pop outs after the home run by Machado padres’s are down to their final out and Xander unable to set a new franchise record yeah it’s unfortunate 97 mph heater in on his hands put an end to the street [Music] now Croninworth who has always hit well against the Rock perhaps envisioning Estz in a Rocky unifor two for five against him in his career with a double how about a visit to the chron zone right here down by one and down of their final lap 0 and one the pitch running trying to loop it in the air left side that old fade foul into the seats just beyond the Kansas City dugout and now the Padres’s are down to their final strength six to five Royals in the bottom of the ninth inning cronin Worth uses his time out jacob tonight one out of four with a single pretty much everybody has been involved offensively but at the moment down by one 0 and two as Steves delivers and just outside one ball and two strength first game of this threeame series we do it again tomorrow afternoon at 4:15 one and two cvz delivers and Cronorth takes high two balls two strikes roninorth waiting now the pitch on the way and Jake this is it the seats out of play nothing coming easy for either side tonight base is empty two outs down by one two and two to Cronin here’s the pitch for MZ it is just up and away and another full count three balls two strikes what a tempered basket put together by Dave after falling down with a count and two he’s fouled off a couple of tough ones to work it full josea Glacius would be next payoff pitch cronorth swings and pops it up left side of the infield third baseman Mikel Garcia just off the line at third base he makes the catch and the ball game is over manny Machado led off the bottom of the ninth with an opposite field home run but that is as close as the Padres’s will get picks up his now major league leading 22nd save of the season and the Royals hang on to take game one of this series by a final of six to five take a break come back give you some final thoughts and the totals on the Padres’s Radio Network palomar Health leads the league in patient care recognized by Newsweek as a world’s best of this series goes to the Kansas City Royals for the first time in 18 games the Padres’s did not have a lead at any point tonight but after trailing 4 nothing they came back to tie it up kansas City went back ahead in the eighth padres’s got one in the ninth when they needed two and a frustrating night certainly although a lot of encouraging signs offensively from a team that as we know has not been firing on all cylinders the last little bit yeah I mean there’s some pros and cons tonight right Jesse i mean if you want to look at the challenges Nick Petta not very sharp tonight he goes four and two/3s allowed the four earn runs and you you could tell that he was struggling with his command right from the get-go both with the consistency on his curveball the location of his fast ball especially the right-hand batters did a nice job of battling with it as long as he could but take a hack at guessing which baseball player or man has a following i really don’t know what to say i’m
