Stars Trade Marchment to Kraken for Draft Picks
welcome back all right so if this trade had happened say an hour later I would have had to wait to do this until after I got back from the game tonight but it’s done so we’re going to discuss the Dallas Stars as I mentioned this morning in a bit of a a cap hack situation and they’re working on digging their way out of it so what they’ve done is they’ve traded Mason Marchmond who we all knew was on the move uh he’s been moved to Seattle so Marchman’s 30 years of age has a $4.5 million cap hit for one more year seattle can afford it with this trade they still have 15.45 45 million in cap space according to Cap Friendly uh last season 2023 2024 Marchman 81 games played 22 goals 31 assists 53 points this year 62 games 22 goals 25 assists 47 points uh Marchman is uh is is is an agitator he’s an agitator that has some skill uh he does take the occasional bad penalty but honestly I think Seattle’s done well here as soon as I saw this trade went down I thought yeah he should fit in with Seattle in fact uh he and Carte could go on the same line maybe next year we’ll see what the lines look like now the top six for Seattle I thought this was worth pointing out since it’s 15.45 million at least what I think will be their top six uh currently would be Schwarz Bener Tolvin Stevenson McCann and Wright so there’s definitely room here and a little bit of cap space for Seattle to maybe add another top six forward unless they envision Marshman as being a top six forward uh he’s generally been a third liner with Dallas but with the amount of points he’s been able to produce maybe Seattle sees a little more upside there if they give him some more ice time uh and then what Dallas gets back in this trade is a 2025 fourthround draft pick which they had traded to Seattle previously as well as a 2026 third round draft pick with this trade Dallas now has a little under 5 million in cap space or 4.96 million to be precise and their top six currently looks like this robertson Hint Rantin Johnston Duchain and Sean the problem being they only have $5 million in cap space and even with this trade they’re going to need to move more money uh the the the names that everybody keeps bringing up are Labouchkin and Dumba i’m thinking if they want to move either of those players they’re probably going to have to add a sweetener uh and then the one thing I’m wondering too is if they do say end up moving Robertson because that name keeps being thrown around out there does that mean that they envision Maverick Bourke as a top six forward one thing the concern that I have with Dallas is let’s look at how Edmonton beat them in that conference final depth was a big part of it dallas’s depth was not as good as Edmonton’s and it looks like in this off season Dallas could be shedding some depth teams like Seattle that have the cap space picking up some depth should make them better and it should even things out a little bit around the National Hockey League but we shall see so let me know your thoughts in the comment section below do you think that Dallas got enough back do you think that the cap space is enough to justify the deal how do you feel if you’re a Seattle fan at this point in time like I said I think Marshman’s going to fit in perfectly fine with Seattle uh they have some agitators some guys who can definitely cause the shift disturbance on the ice and uh Marshman should fit in with that kind of u mindset so let me know your thoughts hit like and subscribe in the event you may not have done so already uh as I said I am going to be going to the game tonight so if any other trades take place between now and when I get home they’ll be reported on when I get home i’m not doing trade videos inside the arena i just think it’ll be a little bit loud and weird to do so so I will talk to you again soon but either way uh thank you guys so much for watching i will talk to you again uh probably when the game’s done because I’ll be doing a review at that point
As Dallas needed to clear cap space, they did just that with this trade.

CAP dump by Dallas.
I don’t know how the kraken can think they’re in a position to be giving up draft picks for a 30 year old player. They’ve really committed hard to mediocrity from day 1
Sharks probably on his no trade list because I'm sure they could and would have beat that.
Does anyone care about Seattle? They definitely are not anywhere close to being like Las Vegas.
He’ll fit really nice, but the Kraken need super star power, not top 6th depth.
NOOOOOO!!! Poor guy’s gonna waste his career. Why couldn’t he come to the Sharks??
Sat next to his Dad Bryan at the Sharks 25th Anniversary dinner. He was a great guy.
Mush took too many pens this playoffs and not enough scoring, glad to see him gone. 4.5 was too much for his lack of production.
Rantenon such a idiotic deal, way 2 overpaid
Excuse me while i swallow my puke. WTF Seattle?!
Dallas clearing cap space to sign McDavid July 2
I found your channel at the beginning of this past season and you have opened up a whole new world in the Hockey World for me, love your insight and opinions, I’ve learned so much about the game from you. Awesome content. Cheers
Go krak go baby
I hated Marchment being in Central. Don't get me wrong… that's a compliment. But I'm glad he's not a Star now. 🙂
was hoping hed come to vancouver. So close
Go Stars, I guess.
Seattle Fan here: I think he's a good player, but Seattle's weak in Top 6 scoring… So add Marchment to the long list of "good player, but not great" that Seattle has… Maybe they're hoping that Kakko will become that guy? Maybe Wright becomes that guy? … But as of now, there's no "pillar" for Seattle… Good trade, but I don't think it changes Seattle very much (just another veteran that pushes the young players back… which begs the question: Why are we loading up our farm system to not play them?)
It hit me when you said he is 30. Time flies!
Why couldn’t the Canucks match/beat this offer
Scott Laughton was worth a prospect and a first and he ended up playing around 12 min a night on avg for the leafs
Robertson is their best player, it would be foolish to trade him.
This is great for Kraken.
great trade, getting this guy out of the central division!
Darnell nurse for Robertson
This is a great trade. Fills a void that both teams need and helps both teams move forward.
im sure Dallas was asking for a 1st rounder and Robertson from the Leafs hahaha
A trade video in the arena would be like Simon Millers Ups & Downs after Wrestlemania in front of the stadium. I think it could be great fun.
Kent Hughes will be burned at the stake if he does not get a similar trade this off season. Marchement IMO was the perfect second line center for Montreal …. 6-5/212 pounds … he loves the rough stuff, something Montreal is lacking.
as a leafs fan i'm very disappointed yes he has a m-nmc but i doubt the leafs were on his no move list aside from that Seattle is in a tax free state so if Bettman says it's not a factor he's full of it a 3rd in 26 and a 4th in 25 is chump change after what the leafs paid to get laughton GO ABBY'S
Ugh, damn hard cap. I’m not a Dallas fan but I do not like the fact that teams have to dump salary to stay under the cap simply because they develop young talent well. The NHL should move to an NBA-style soft cap, where teams can exceed the cap to sign their own free agents and draft picks, but are heavily restricted if they are trying to acquire a player from another team.
Pretty frustrated Detroit didn't make this move
Jackson Blake, Scott Morrow, a 1st and 2nd for Jason.
I was hoping the Bruins would take a swing as we could use some top 6 help. We shall see how it works for Seattle!
Use those 2 new found picks to trade away the two pilons on D and then bring back Granlund and unfortunately Benn. Then sign Lundkvist and Bourque.
They just need to move Dumba or so. No need to move Robertson which is terrible for the team if you think about it. I don't see Bourque to replace Robertson at all
Love to see Dallas get rid of their second-biggest piece of shit and get like nothing in return. Now if Jamie Benn retires I might be able to root for them
They can use the picks they get in this deal to move Dumba or Lyubushkin, if so then this is a decent trade for both sides
Dumba, lyubishi, should leave with robo, if it came down to it. Going to the Ducks or Devils
the key piece to the Krakens' 2026 Stanley Cup run
Playoff team ? Sure. Contender ? Not even close. The worst place to be. They need their "Zito & Maurice" miracle…
I was hoping San Jose would acquire him, especially at that price
SEATTLE WINS HANDS DOWN
Kraken need to bring back that beautiful sweater! Happy with this trade.
Dallas had much better depth than Edmonton. They lost because they had to go through Colorado and then Winnipeg. They were exhausted and Edmonton's path to the conference finals was much easier. Two years in a row this is what happened. Should have been a first round matchup.
