A’s owner SELLING San Jose Earthquakes (for Vegas ballpark?)

here’s brody brazil when i come on here to share that there’s a report out there saying a’s owner john fiser is in fact selling one of his teams i already know the high emotion and anticipation that comes with just hearing that but let me stop you and stop everything right there by letting you know the report is that the san jose earthquakes of mls are for sale not the athletics of formerly oakland now sacramento possibly of las vegas but i do believe the sale of this soccer team directly relates to the transition potentially of the baseball team from california to nevada in the next handful of years i’ll get into the baseball side of this in just a second let’s first focus on the soccer side that will help us understand potentially the baseball connection all of this coming by the way in a report from a very reputable source sporico has put this out it’s not official they’re saying that within the next 24 hours it might be officially announced but that’s not the case right here right now san jose earthquakes owner john fiser has hired an investment bank to sell his mls club according to multiple people familiar with the billionaire’s plans an official announcement is expected sometime on wednesday fiser who owns and recently relocated mlb’s athletics from oakland has retained molus and company to run the process the move comes nearly four years after fiser hired mullis to explore selling minority shares of his soccer club fischer intends to sell a control interest in the earthquakes this time according to a source who was given anonymity because the matter is private there you go big deal sale of a soccer team a majority interest a control interest this time around it’s not fractions of the franchise it sounds like the whole thing might be for sale here are some numbers to know and some perspective to have again before we get to the baseball side of this the potential a’s in las vegas side of this the earthquakes valuation at the start of 2025 this was done back in january by sportico they do it for every team across almost every league the quakes were valued at about $600 million which is 20th in rank across mls john fischer purchased this team by paying for its $20 million expansion fee that was back in 2007 so in approximately 20 years it’s done quite well as an investment from 20 million to maybe selling it for 600 million and we’ll talk about the sale on two fronts later on in this video how much would he be interested in selling is it 51% is it 80% 90% 100% but also what will be the sale price that he will get out of this in terms of a liquid asset the team owns and operates paypal park they’ve got a stadium that’s what a little bit more than 10 years old i want to say i was there for the opening match can’t remember how many years ago that was now time flies but the point is that’s also another huge asset of this team they’ve got a relatively new stadium quite small and actually the attendance and revenue for the earthquakes as of last year weren’t great but at least there is that platform you’re in the bay area with your own stadium that you own and operate a lot of control a lot of nice parts about that in terms of again valuation of the franchise if we’re being honest here there are some other mls factors this doesn’t necessarily apply to the earthquakes but it kind of surrounds this situation it’s been 3 years since an mls team changed hands via a sale so this doesn’t happen all the time or frequently but currently the vancouver white caps are also up for sale i think that uh they went on the market back in december of 2024 so they’ve been on it for a while they haven’t sold in basically half a year mls teams are also hoping for and expecting a little bit of a world cup bump as 2026 approaches and happens just a a general increase in soccer interest and attention and people realizing “oh maybe i should go to more mls matches in my hometown in my backyard right around the corner from my house.” so teams and the league in general are expecting this they’re hoping for this and i think to some degree they will get a bump how much i don’t know how much is that worth i don’t necessarily know but we’ll ultimately find that out now there’s also a situation surrounding mls’s contract with apple tv as in the broadcast deal some criticism it’s basically buried people have to pay a subscription to watch any matches it’s not necessarily on a bunch of free television there are some games on fox and fs1 but few and far between basically the criticism is that mls is hard to find and for the casual fan and exposure that’s not a good thing so i don’t know if that current deal brings values across the board down but maybe not a little bit but that’s also something the league and probably apple tv are trying to figure out how to better expose this league to up attention and obviously up valuations of respective franchises but back to baseball and back to one of the main reasons i decided to make this video sure an mls team being sold is a big deal but when it has a direct tie to the movement and maneuvering of a major league baseball team i think this is almost like a necessary sale the vegas ballpark that the a’s want to build the price already went up from 1.5 billion to 1.75 billion as an estimate and now that we know construction prices are up even further it has to be done on more of a time crunch labor costs are more construction materials costs more tariffs you name it there’s a large expectation that that number 1.75 billion has gone up significantly again and even really before it went up the a’s had already stated their intention to sell about $500 million worth of a stake in the team now for what percentage we don’t know but that was the value they were looking to get out of the team about $500 million to apply it to construction of this brand new ballpark they haven’t got to anybody’s knowledge and i i want to say it’s been almost a year they haven’t got anybody to invest at that price point well what did we just say the earthquakes are valued at about $600 million so there you can see if that’s a ticket to get that $500 million by selling the earthquakes again kind of a necessary sale and a lot of people right or wrong are crunching the numbers on two fronts how much money does john fischer have to pay for all of this like is he good for it but also number two what is the cost i mean it is in in defense of anybody trying to do a construction project right now costs must be going straight through the roof and so there’s two parts about it having enough but also what is the final cost it’s like a moving goal line basically what is the final cost actually going to be and so in preparation for really making this happen really maneuvering the a’s down to southern nevada like it would seem that john fischer is trying to capture that missing link if it’s a full sale now what if it’s a 51% sale and he’s trying to get perhaps $300 million out of this then i don’t know how much that covers you’d have to think because of the situation at hand and knowing the large gap for lack of a better word that might exist in funding and this would probably cover a certain amount of it again we don’t know how much of an amount we don’t know the total cost we don’t know the initial investment these are all numbers we’ll never have but i think it confirms the initial speculation that things were probably short on the funding front for a while now and this might help to some degree so if you’re asking me does all of this increase the odds that the a’s end up eventually in las vegas with a brand new ballpark again to some degree the answer is yes i thought about this for a long time that this was an asset that if it had to be unloaded to cash in on the value of the soccer team and take that funding and apply it to a las vegas ballpark this was always in the cards as kind of a rip cord of a parachute pull that rib cord to get your parachute to come out and you’re good now i don’t know if this solves everything but it certainly helps to some degree so i’m not terribly surprised by all of this in fact i’m pretty sure at some point in one of the hundreds of videos i’ve done on this topic i probably have talked about this before i’ve expected this to a certain degree that this was always a potential and that’s why the report makes a lot of sense there still are some questions again how much can you get from a soccer franchise how much is he actually willing to sell of the franchise how much is the baseball stadium going to cost what’s the final number there but if you’re asking does this help the move and help the process i think the obvious answer right there is yes and again it just confirms a lot of the speculation and criticism that things weren’t in place maybe this better helps things be in place for las vegas but again back to the earthquakes yeah again kind of a necessary sale and and quite honestly if you’re john fischer you’ve moved a baseball team out of town here you might as well cash in on this and just be done in the area right it’s kind of weird to move one of your big assets out of here have a lot of people not feeling great about that happening and your involvement in that maybe this is just a kind of an easy way to wipe the hands clean move out of here start something fresh and new elsewhere and and maybe get the baseball stadium paid for but we’ll see again a report by sportico you got to think that’s pretty authentic maybe the earthquakes will say something within the next handful of hours uh maybe they don’t maybe this was a leak maybe this was not intended to come out maybe it’s very premature maybe they’ll wait another six months or so or never but i have to respect and at least repeat the source it’s coming from because i think it’s pretty trustworthy let me know what you think about all this in the comments section below also while you’re down there thumbs up helps me the video and the channel and don’t forget to subscribe to this channel you know i would definitely love to see you back here next time

  2. In terms of possible new owners for the Earthquakes, I think the ownership group that currently owns Bay FC of the NWSL (who also plays at PayPal Park) which includes former USWNT players Brandi Chastain, Aly Wagner & Leslie Osborne will put in a bid so that they can basically own everything soccer related in San Jose. Given how well Bay FC has been running since they joined the NWSL last year, I think this ownership group should they become the new owners will have the Earthquakes in a much better position than they are currently. As for the Vancouver Whitecaps ownership situation, there are three possible groups looking to buy that team with two of them wanting to keep the team in Vancouver. One is the same group that owns the Canucks of the NHL & the other is a group that includes Steve Nash that is looking to build a new soccer specific stadium for the team. Lastly there's a group out of Phoenix that is seeking to move the team there even though Phoenix already has a successful soccer team in the Rising of USL.

  3. If true, it’s fantastic news to the Earthquakes and their fans. Finally have an owner that actually cares about the team and fans. Well, let’s HOPE the new owners care.

  4. I still contend, even if financing comes into place and the stadium is built, the attendance expectations are way too high to be able to cover the mortgage. It is 6:00 PM today and it is 107. Right in the middle of baseball season and it is not even summer yet.

  5. Smart move by Fisher IMO. Should sell the whole team if he can find a buyer(s) to take it all – majority owners don't usually want to stick around and become a minority owner, but who knows in this case. Fisher is persona non grata among baseball fans in Oakland (and probably other parts of the Bay area) anyway, so why stick around? Plus, I suspect he'll be putting all the proceeds from the sale of the MLS team into the constructions of the Vegas ballpark.

  6. ‪Dear Mr. Fisher,‬

‪Here is my final plan for you to be a hero..‬

‪1. Sell the SJ. Earthquakes for $600M‬
‪2. Sell the A’s to Lacob for $1.7B.Equally to the Ray selling agreement.‬

‪Now you have $2.3B, pay for the LV stadium in cash. Now MLB will gift you an expansion team because MLB wants LV.‬

    ‪So,‬

‪Oakland gets it team back, Lacob builds water front stadium privately. A’s fan happy!‬

‪LV gets what they want, a team home grown like the Knights. ‬

‪MLB and those owners get new stadiums in Oakland and LV. Besides the Rays are getting sold.. ‬

‪So Mr. Fisher, be hero, here’s your plan.. ‬

  7. This feels desperate. He’s going to fail in Vegas. Hopefully his empire is beginning to crumble. No one wants to invest in anything he is associated with so he’s going to have to go it alone. Boycott anything that he is associated with.

  8. I also agree that the Quakes need new ownership, and perhaps unloading the Quakes to new owners will indeed help get the stadium built. But I can also see him selling the team, only to see that stadium costs kept growing and he still had the same funding gap at the end of the day.

  9. In my opinion, this owner was never interested in Soccer, in promoting soccer in USA. He bought Quake, Earthquake just to get the land deal. That is why San Jose has been constantly under spent and been the joke of MLS.

  10. The New Owners should build a new stadium and market the Quakes better and actually invest into the club. Yes the Apple TV deal was an experiment that hasn’t worked the way they thought. I hope the new buying owners take care of the club well

  11. Imagine growing up wealthy beyond belief in the Bay Area, going to Stanford, watching your family start the GAP then doing something so disgraceful as ripping the Oakland A's out of Oakland when there was a plan to keep them. Generations of folks all across Northern California loved this team so it's easy to see why he's so despised in the region. Pretty pATHetic that one could be all too willing to bet on Vegas and lose all of your fans in the process and be happy perfectly catering to tourism. He could've saved the Bay Bridge Series like he begged his family to SAVE the Giants and forever been a HERO in Oakland instead he chose to burn those bridges instead 🔥🌉🔥

  12. Fisher selling the Quakes to build this tiny baseball park contraption in Vegas. SMH. He could've did this and built a new park in Oakland.
This proves he doesn't got solid investor strategy in place.
