  1. It’s the right call if things don’t turn around soon, frankly. Lugo’s already 35 and his value isn’t getting higher. We also have guys realistically vying for the starting rotation soon with Cameron and Mozzicato.

  2. My fear is that we will deal him for a subpar haul. I feel like trading Lugo would essentially be surrendering the season and take us out of serious playoff contention. To make that kind of trade I really want to secure some pieces who figure into the team’s future.

  3. Trading Lugo doesn’t signal a true sell-off. The Tigers were a middling team this time last year and people wondered if they would tear it down to rebuild, including trading Skubal. Instead they traded their second best pitcher in Flaherty and wound up making the post season by not tearing it down, and look at where they are now as well. The Royals trading Lugo for a solid return and rolling with the remaining pitchers they already have would feel very similar.
