BREAKING: Rangers make SHOCKING move…

we have breaking news as Chris Jury and the New York Rangers have made a shocking move and this move not only affects what they’re going to do at the draft this weekend but the future of what this roster looks like entirely and opens them up to a massive opportunity this weekend and with free agency right around the corner we’re going to break it all down in this episode of Rangers Digest but before we do a quick reminder to hit that subscribe button about 74% of you who watch these videos are not subscribed to the channel so if you want to stay up to date with everything that’s happening with the New York Rangers go down below hit that free subscribe button and you can stay up to date with everything going on with the New York Rangers now let’s dive right into it we have some breaking news the Rangers like I just mentioned made a pretty shocking move the Rangers have officially surrendered their first round pick this year the number 12 overall to the Pittsburgh Penguins now the one thing that a lot of people aren’t talking about which I think is very interesting Pittsburgh now has picks 11 and 12 so I do wonder if they move off of one of them but for the New York Rangers side of things this is a pretty shocking move but a move that makes a ton of sense and as you can see from Colin Stevenson here they surrender the number 12 overall pick to Pittsburgh and that means they get to hold on to next year’s pick which a lot of people are like man I even myself maybe the Rangers are going to make the playoffs next year there’s no real reason in keeping next year’s pick there is a reason in keeping next year’s pick because this now allows them to sign a big money RFA to an offer sheet and also gives them an asset they can use at the trade deadline if they need to i think a lot of people are expecting this team to make the playoffs next year a lot of people are i am expecting this team to make the playoffs next year now with the current roster maybe not but there’s going to be a lot of changes between now and next Tuesday that is for sure and now you know with this pick keeping next year’s pick they can go out and offer sheet a big money big bign name RFA a JJ Purka you know there’s a bunch of other RFAS on the market as well including their own considering um or you know to some other teams so um going to be very interesting and as you can see here Vince had it first and a couple other insiders as well that it’s official the New York Rangers are sending the 12th pick to Pittsburgh and that of course was uh flipped in the JT Miller trade over to Pittsburgh as well and this means that the New York Rangers will keep their unprotected firstrounder in next year’s draft this is another very important piece of information by the way not only is you know all the offer sheet stuff very nice that is something that could happen um you know that they could do now and they’ve opened themselves up to that opportunity next year’s pick was an unprotected pick it’s unprotected firstrounder right that could be extremely dangerous if you ended up making this pick this year and I I was you know an advocate on the channel for keeping this year’s pick i I have to say I was right uh it just made sense to me i don’t think you were going to pick that high but this is a team that knows themselves better than anyone else I guess at this point and knows that whoever they picked at 11 or sorry 12 was not going to be able to be developed and then end up on the team so they’re just going to go out and make a move so I guess that makes sense i guess they recognize um you know where they are as an organization but again it was an unprotected firstrounder in next year’s draft so if you do have a disastrous season again everything goes wrong cuz anything can happen in this league in this sport it’s unprotected what if you were giving away like a top five pick what if you won the lottery and you gave away that pick could have been absolutely disastrous but not happening they’re keeping next year’s pick uh and again it gives them flexibility moving forward whether it’s for offer sheets a future trade that they can bundle it with something else or making the pick in 2026 uh that most people actually consider next year’s draft very strong that’s something that I’ve seen the top five in this year’s draft I think is actually really really good but uh beyond that it is considered a weaker draft and next year is considered very very strong so uh you know it does make a lot of sense when you think about it this way and where the team is at i thought they would have made more moves by now but they haven’t and with where the team is at right now this makes a ton of sense and again this uh was part of the condition for those of you who don’t know from the JT Miller trade from the Canucks and then the pick was then flipped to the Pittsburgh Penguins so um that is a decision that the uh obviously the New York Rangers had to make here before tomorrow at 700 p.m and obviously they’ve made that decision here so something must have happened something must have happened in terms of Chris Jay knows that a move that he was trying to make is not going to go through and he decided okay we’re going to start making moves we’re going to have the dominoes fall now we’re going to do this we’re going to send this pick to Pittsburgh and then we’re going to start trading Carson Susi which I imagine comes down very soon keandre Miller’s on the block i wonder if now they’re just like “Hey we can’t get via trade at least JJ Purka out of Buffalo let’s offer sheet him let’s make sure we’re in a position to offer sheet him.” And I don’t know about you if you want to give up next year’s first round pick for JJ Purka i know after everything I just said that it’s unprotected uh JJ Persk is a great player and he could be not even he was almost a point a game player i could see him being like a hundoint player on this New York Rangers team and a lot of people might scoff at that i could absolutely see that happening so this is what the Rangers are looking like in terms of current cap space so very interesting they have 13 million if you move off of Carson Susi that frees up just over $3 million and I would imagine all of that goes directly into Will Coulie’s bank account immediately so um I imagine that’s the next domino to fall and then what do you do with Keandre Miller there’s a lot of teams interested by all accounts in Keandre Miller and I wanted to pivot a little bit actually let’s get into one last thing before we do pivot to what the Rangers are looking like in terms of uh contract situations and everything they’ve been doing this is the lineup right now not bad again you have some RFAS i would imagine Susi is not going to be here much longer it’s a matter of hours at this point I think or maybe a day like he’s going to get traded before Friday I would imagine and uh what’s going to happen of course with RFA Keandre Miller uh you know it looks like a trade is very likely at this point if a trade does not come to fruition then they’re going to let him go in an offer sheet that is going to happen that’s been reported so uh he will not be on the team next year and they still have to sign Will Coulie but the rest of the team is starting to take shape the lines obviously wouldn’t look exactly like this this I would have Zabanagad up on second line right wing as well but you know we can talk about that till we’re blue in the face and for another day and obviously there was talk we talked about it yesterday of the Rangers moving up in the draft to get James Hagens they would have had to move up into at least the top eight if not the top five to get James Haggins although there’s a lot of movement in the draft right now some names they’re saying a lot of names are going to fall that was that were originally higher uh in order to do that I would imagine you would have needed this year’s first round pick so I don’t think that’s going to happen anymore that seems like it’s off the table and Chris Jay said hey we’re going to start rolling we’re going to start making the moves that we need to make now to get into this the Rangers and we’ve been talking about this a lot on the channel are following the structure of the Florida Panthers to a degree right and I think that you know they have their entire fourth line locked up right now for two years by the way to term uh for less than what Barlay Goodro currently makes on the San Jose Sharks and that’s $2.9 million uh for three fourth liners i think that’s tidy business and it’s one of the better fourth lines in hockey and we’ve seen that a lot of people have been saying that the last day I’ve been saying it and I see a lot of comments and people saying the opposite there is a lot of you know the positive stuff for sure there’s a lot of comments about the opposite though you can’t disagree with that they were quite literally they quite literally this fourth line won this team games in January themselves like it was a 2-1 game there’s a couple 2-1 games where they quite literally it was Shurken and the fourth line that got it done this is one of the best fourth lines in hockey and not only that the biggest fourth line in hockey so they’re going to be physical they’re going to be hard to play against they’re fast i love the I love this move i love these moves and the contracts that they signed for and there’s term right there’s term and the salary cap is going up $10 million next summer so you still have some flexibility right now i’d imagine some of this is coming off the books too uh with some trades coming up in the next couple days and of course you’re going to have to sign a guy like Gavricov which I think is on the way and as you can see here UFAS I would imagine a Cabela is not going to be returning same with Kevin Dhan will Kulie is going to get signed i don’t think Kalev is returning uh that was a failed experiment and obviously Zack Jones and Keandre Miller are both on the trade block and those are the notable free agents for your New York Rangers so let me know how you feel in the comments about this move sending the pick over the Pittsburgh this tells me that something else fell through that they were I think they were still trying to move this year’s pick something tells me that something fell through in terms of trying to trade up and then Drury said “You know what we’re going to send it to Pittsburgh we’re going to keep next year’s pick this opens us up to the opportunity to offer sheet a mega star and like a JJ Purka or a a guy a budding star in the league a young superstar a guy who needs a contract and they’re going to go out and do an offer sheet or at least threaten to do an offer sheet and then maybe they can acquire that player in a trade although an offer sheet could make some sense as well and might be a little bit tidier depending on what assets they want back so let me know how you feel in the comments

  1. Drury must not be very confident about the team this year. If we do well, we might be picking at the late 20s/30th in next year's draft.
Then again,…. Anderson, Kratzov, Kakko, Chytil (concussions) were all busts (for us!) So,….what ever!

  2. Fire Drury NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Panarin, Kreider, Trouba, Zibanejad, etc. were right. Drury is braindead.

  3. Only idiots sign players to offersheets. Drury and everybody knows that Hartford sucks and the player development sucks, yet nothing is being done to improve it.

  4. If jt miller and panarin couldn’t reach 110 pt plateau last season, no way in hell is peterka a 100 pt player, seriously, look at the players who had 100 pts last year, and you thinknpererka is in that category? Cmon.

  5. Has anyone actually heard from Drury? When Davidson was rebuilding the club, he sent a letter out to the fans letting us in on the plan.

  6. They have enough young players who need ice time now, trade K Miller, Soucy, and lock up Cuylle.
    Schneider needs an extension.
    Great move on Edstrom!
