Cam Newton Said THIS About Dak Prescott, Arch Manning & The Dallas Cowboys
before we get into today’s show we have another free raffle entry for our George Pickins jersey raffle this summer The most comments on today’s video We’ll get that free raffle For reference JT equals him with three M’s Got it last time with 104 comments So flood the comments section Type in whatever you want right now [Music] Tom Downey here for the Cowboys Report We are discussing the Cam Newton comments he made on his podcast/show about Dak Prescott Arch Manning because of course and the Cowboys in general Here’s what Cam said kind of condensed it down uh from some rambling that was in between He says the door is closing because if you don’t succeed this year I mean this is NFC championship or bust Dak Prescott if you don’t perform this year that door is going to close In comes drum roll please Arch Manning You out with an injury this year Jerry is going to do any and everything which is not the phrase to spend everything for Arch Manning We’ll get into this because I don’t think this is the first time that someone has connected Arch Manning and the Cowboys because outside of like maybe five QBs in the NFL every fan base has tied themselves to Arch Manning There’s actually several kind of massive issues with this that we will dive into I do want to start with the one that I think is actually kind of a fair criticism and that is there is a limited window that exists right now for Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys I don’t think it’s as small one year as what Cam Newton is currently claiming We’ll get in that with the specific contract stuff that currently exists for Dak Prescott but there is a window I think it is fair and to point out and even maybe more fair to be concerned about the fact that Dak Prescott is now entering his age 32 He turns 32 next month and has an injury history and is coming off a bad year Like all of that is fair to point out And you think from Cam Newton’s perspective and I think a lot of ex players often draw on their own experiences for good reason When Cam Newton was 32 after that year he was done in the NFL So Cam’s experience is at this point it’s now or never I don’t think it’s now or never for Prescott I do think this is a big year though You know there is a new play caller There is a new head coach and of course the always present pressure that exists as the Dallas Cowboys quarterback and he didn’t play very well last year And knock on wood if he has another injury that ends his season We are very much in that like 2014 2015 Tony Romo Romo timeline where it’s like boy if there’s another one This is a real concern So be honest with me What is your confidence level in Dak Prescott It is the pin comment on today’s video Head down there and let me know One to 10 is your scale Let’s go to the first idea You know dumping Dak assuming he plays badly the badly element We’ll see I have my doubts he’s going to be bad this year But if Dak and the Cowboys both of them struggle this season how easy is it to actually move on And the answer is not very easy And frankly the answer is borderline impossible This is the Dak Prescott contract Next year he’s got a tentative for now Let’s go into $74 million capit The Cowboys owe him $40 million in cash Actually not that bad relatively speaking What matters though is the dead money which you cannot get out of There are no ways to work around that The dead money if the Cowboys cut Dak Prescott is $130 million That is more than his current cap hit If you cut him before his 2027 salary becomes guaranteed the cut savings you lose $56 million in cap space with the slight rounding up for the dead money difference there By the way the 0.01 So we’re talking about you’re paying him $130 million to not be on the roster You could post June 1st him and save 0 you’re still paying $74 million in the gapit and eating a bunch of leftover money next year too You could trade him and have a $90 million dead cap charge You can’t dead in a post June first trade So what this means is is this If you move on from Dak Prescott this upcoming off season you’re still paying franchise quarterback money two years if you cut him So two years of paying him essentially what he was already going to make and count against the cap and now you don’t have a quarterback You’re just eating a bunch of money That’s only viable if you completely tear down the roster If you go “We don’t care about winning We’re just going to totally reset tear it down to the studs.” That is something the Jones boys never want to do They would rather win eight games every year than jeopardize having a five- win season outside of chaos and injuries and stuff there And any trade idea would fall into okay well who who wants this it Because if you’re going to get something back and teams want to trade for him well that means Dak is good And if Dak is good and playing well which I think is the reasonable assumption right now well then why would you trade him Why would you get rid of your really good quarterback And if Dak is just terrible and you want to try to move on well then who’s going to trade for him like like the actual reality and not you know mad in La La Land If Dak is so bad you want to move on one year into his new extension who’s going to trade for that contract History tells us it’s actually extremely reasonable to expect a bounceback campaign from Dak Prescott He did that in 2021 coming off the injury Did it in 2023 coming off the injury Honestly I was more worried about the 2024 performance than I was 2022 performance The 2022 interceptions those weren’t his fault The 2024 ones were in theory The offense fits him better than what McCarthy was trying to kind of force and shoehorn into into the schematics last year It’s reasonable he’s going to be good And if he’s not then okay that’s two years in a row Who wants to pay him a massive you know multiple years guaranteed contract More on this to come contract And we’ll talk Arch Manny of course too You can get the Cowboys training camp gear at chatsports.com/cowboys camp That’s hats the visor if you want to go full Shottenheimer look plus t-shirts and hoodies It’s kind of the sideline gear you’ll see some Cowboys players wearing uh on the signs if they’re not playing this upcoming season Links in the comments and the description of today’s show It’s chatsports.com/cowboyscamp I do want to go back to the contract here by the way because the way it is set up is the Cowboys can restructure Dak’s contract It’s it’s designed it’s built the goal is to restructure it It’s nothing is needed It’s just “Hey Dak we’re doing this.” Dak says “Cool.” Doesn’t even need to sign off on it technically And it creates $30.96 million in salary cap Pushes it off to the future When the cap keeps going up the Eagles do the exact same thing And that brings his capit down to $43.1 million So now your options are okay you can pay Dak 43 on the cap or $1 130 on the cap I don’t know one of those sounds a lot better to me And that actually makes his cap hit less than what it is is this upcoming season That $43 million figure for next year would put him fifth among QBs right now Now it probably comes in like seventh or eighth next year It would be like 12th right now but other QBs are going to get restructured too So now you’re going from 50 plus million dollar capit down to 43 That’s better for you and frees up more cap space too So I think the answer here is yes I think Dak Prescott is on the Cowboys roster in 2026 Do you think that is the case Why for yes N for no Let’s go to the Arch Manning conversation And you can bookmark this and send it to the other 30 25 NFL teams that aren’t going to be in Arch Manning range There’s issues here The biggest of which does he actually go pro Everyone is operating like he’s going to I don’t think that’s actually the plan in Texas right now The Mannings have said this too They want Arch to stay four seasons You know why He’s thrown less than a hundred career passes He hasn’t actually played that much There’s plenty to be intrigued by The name brand the last name the athletic ability the the traits are all clearly there but he hasn’t actually done it yet Now let’s stick with the hypothetical Let’s say Arch Manning is everything everyone thinks he can be He wins the Heisman Trophy Texas wins the national championship At that point he actually might go pro He did it all in one year Well he’s going to be the number one overall pick So are you bad enough to be in that range Are you bad enough this upcoming season that you’re going to be actually in arch territory to go let’s say it’s not the one pick Let’s say you let’s say Jerry does everything possible and trades up Well here’s the thing Cam That’s not Jerry Jerry Jones is not wild and gambling Jerry the way he used to be They don’t make trades in round one They don’t move up They haven’t moved up since Morris Claybourne That was over a decade ago If anything that’s more of a Howie type of deal which they’re not going to because they’re going to be good But that this is not what Jerry Jones does anymore He does not make these aggressive move ups to go get players They were never going to go make the move for Travis Hunter Let’s say they’re picking 12 again you’re going to sell the farm to go from number 12 to number one That is not how Jerry and Stephen operate They don’t believe in doing that That’s that that would actually be a very off type off-brand move for the Cowboys More on this to come Update on the June sub battle Ravens rundown The Ner report we’ll discuss that later Uh have gained a significant amount of ground We’re less than 100 subs behind You want more free Cowboys videos Hit that sub button for me right now Number four is it actually even smart Again let’s say you’re picking 12 or let’s say you’re picking seven or five and you want to go get that number one pick to get Arch Manning Are you actually setting up your new franchise quarterback for success by trading away all of the draft capital it’s going to cost to go get him the massive hall it would require And you’re still paying franchise quarterback money for two years with Dak Prescott So you’re not benefiting from being able to throw money around on a rookie contract for a QB I don’t know if that’s actually a good plan Obviously the quarterback in theory is set but the supporting cast we’re going to be doing the conversation like is it actually good enough That’s not a good way of going about building a team right And most importantly if Arch Manning is everything we all think he can be and he’s what Cam thinks is who’s trading away from Arch why is that always ignored in these conversations of “Oh just go get him.” Why would you do that If you’re a quarterback needy team you are so bad you got the number one overall pick Why would you not take Arch Manning Why All you’re going to do is have riots outside your team facility Doesn’t make any sense Everyone’s going to want Arch if he’s even remotely good So no one’s going to trade him No one’s gonna say “Yeah we’ll move on from that I want overall pick and not take Arch Manning.” They’ll trade their current quarterback and take the new cheap one And don’t start on the “Oh but Archie said not really.” Actually he didn’t actually say he wanted Arch to be a a Cowboy All Archie was doing was responding to a Cowboys fan who he was just trying to be nice to and was like “Yeah Dallas is fine Don’t read anything They’re not forcing a trade to Dallas.” They might force a trade somewhere else but it’s not going to be to Dallas They did it with with Eli right That one is not going to happen [Music]

#1: Does He Turn Pro? – that’s not the reported plan for Manning with Texas Football
#2: How “Bad” Are You? – Will the Cowboys have a Top 5 pick?
#3: Jerry’s Not Aggressive – Would the Cowboys be willing to move up to the top pick?
#4: Is It Even Smart? – Is paying millions of dollars to not roster Dak and giving up massive draft capital to trade up setting up Arch Manning for success in the NFL?
#5: Who Trades Away From Arch? – if Arch Manning is as good as people think, why would the team picking #1 overall not simply draft him?

Confidence level in Dak Prescott? Scale it: 1-10
Ok
Ok
Ok
Ok
Dak was surrounded by trash in 2024. Rookies all over the o-line and a RB room that was ranked dead last in the NFL. So he's supposed to beat the Eagles with one WR, no run game and a HC whose play call sheet hasn't been updated since 2010.
Thats why i said Cowboys signing Dak was not good for our team
How is he good he went 3-5 and played shitty in 2024. Lol no the 16 ints were thrown by Jerry not Dak. Quit giving excuses for Dak.
Why would you restructure a declining QB.
I'm a all in on Dak, BUT if he does not get better in the playoff's then it's real time to look in another direction. There has to be progress this year.
Yes
Dak 4 MVP!
Dak 4 MVP!
Confidence in Dak: 8.5
Dont cut a top 10 qb
Dak is a career Cowboy!
GP about to go off!
Tom stop being disingenuous Dak is a bottom feeder killer… He sucks if we play mid-Great teams… He is a dere n headlights QB…. We have Joe Milton for a reason!!!! Dak get 1 of them injuries for the season his position is up he is not so good u cant move off him…. He is Kirk cousinz… How many teams has Kirk played for now… Dak has had a embarrassment of riches n has done nuttin wit it but get more n more money for it…. When is he gonna repay JJ for all he's done for his bum ass!!!! "Fuck Arch" We have Bazooka Joe!!! I'm all in wit him…💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿
Tom please decide. Are you going to support dak or hate dak
You're stupid wishy, washy. Daks problem all of the time was scheme failure by coaching staff. Defenses knew what was coming. Lamb was always in traffic. You have got to stand firm. You have said it! It's coaching! IT'S Mccarthy! Make up your damn mind, Tom. Defend him! Or hate him!
The time to stop hating dak is now. We have all determined Mccarthy was the problem. Defenses knew what was coming. Kellen Moore sucked.
8. Remember Aikman was a turnover machine. Jimmy Johnson worked around that by scheming the offense to get the ball out of his hands. Emmett Smith. Jay Novachek. Darryl Johnson. Newton. Tuinea
No. We're not cooked. Dallas is going to be coached to victory. Schemes to out coach. To out wit. To obliterate defenses and offenses in 2025. To win a Super Bowl in 2026
They have the wr duo. They have 1st round depth. They have the hunger. They are going to feast.
I hope No he’s not on roster
Everybody wants to say about a bad year and there wasn't a quarterback out there that hasn't had a bad year. That being said what of the years before that when he went 12 and 5 12 and 5 oh and 12 and 5 but I guess he didn't know what he was doing there either there's too many coaches sitting on their couches the man plays good football when all 53 of them get on the same page you'll see he's a very good quarterback
Glad that Cam is speaking truth to Dak's situation. He's no spring chicken and has become injury prone … indeed "that window" is closing. Jerry was very foolish to both make him the highest paid NFL player ever and also rewarding him with that no trade clause.
I said this last year
