Justin Fields’ Development Being Prioritized By The New York Jets
[Music] all right guys what’s going on welcome in so I think for me one of the biggest points of emphasis that the New York Jets need to focus on this off season during the season the development of Justin Fields right when you think about Justin Fields right now it’s like okay he has a great physical skill set he has a really good arm one of the best running quarterbacks in the league has had some crazy highlight types of moments he’s had some awesome games as well he’s bounced around right different coaching staffs in Chicago uh obviously last season with Pittsburgh ends up getting benched for Russell Wilson lots of fans weren’t happy about it lots of players weren’t really happy about it and uh now signing a two-year deal two years 40 mil 30 mil guarantee with the Jets it definitely feels like it’s a new chapter in Field’s uh career new chapter with the New York Jets moving on from Aaron Rogers and the drama to more so that head down work hard type of approach which I think has been wellreceived so far in the Jets building but again we know that Fields isn’t a top five quarterback we know that there’s been struggles there has been areas of concern in Justin’s game throughout his career so far and so when we’re trying to project what this 26y old can do with this Jets offense again I think it needs to be a hands-on approach by the Jets coaching staff to say hey and also to front office to make sure that Fields has a you know enough of a supporting cast around him you know it’s imperative hey we got to make sure that this guy’s developing he’s moving in the right direction he’s stacking days uh he’s progressing as a quarterback he’s getting better right i don’t want to be in a situation where Fields looks you know pretty good in week two but then looks worse in week nine i mean what at that point you have to question not only just Fields but the coaching in place so one of my favorite things about this Jets’s coaching staff so far uh and of course Darren Muji it really feels like they have good self-awareness and when they accepted the job they knew exactly the strengths and the weaknesses of this Jets team and that’s been really really encouraging as a fan to kind of hear these uh pressers for hear these quotes read read these articles about Aaron Glenn and whatnot so far through the process and granted there hasn’t been any sort of adversity that the Jets have faced so far but you know in this short time again it seems like there’s a real clear approach like a crystal clear approach hey this is what we need this is what we need to work on this is where we want to be so with that comes this new approach that the Jets implemented with quarterback development which is putting GoPros you know it sounds kind of uh you know funny or maybe uh simple but putting GoPros on Justin Field’s helmet well really all the quarterback’s helmet but with Justin Field specifically again if we’re trying to maximize his development and this is a tool in your toolbox that you can use to potentially maximize his development then you got to go ahead and and at least try it out i don’t really see how this can backfire or work as a negative at this point in time but supposedly that’s been a great great piece of advice for not only just Tanner Restrand but uh Charles London the Jets quarterback coach zack Rosenblat of The Athletic released an article where he kind of dove into some of the details on what’s been happening in voluntary OTAAS and mandatory mini camp and there was actually a pretty decent um you know a pretty big section about this whole you know quarterback development GoPro uh style of approach let’s dive into it rosenlat reported after each practice Tanner Instrand and Charles London are able to sit with Fields and go through each play to see what Fields did where he was looking and how and why he made decisions on certain passing plays it’s also been useful in offering a different perspective to show other position groups too because they can hear everything including the calls Fields is making now Justin Field’s take on it is uh it’s kind of cool it’s my first time ever doing it but it’s definitely cool just basically hearing the play call again and kind of just going through making sure you’re doing everything within the process of the play i like the GoPro a lot here’s Tannering Strand’s take it’s what’s your pre-nap process you break the huddle what are you looking at what are we keying are we looking in the right areas what’s the concept if it’s a pass play am I looking in the right spot there’s all sorts of things to talk about with that and so again you know I’m not going to sit here and try to make a big deal about the GoPro camera on quarterback’s helmet but I do think it speaks to again the um the understanding from the Jets coaching staff hey we got a young quarterback with a lot of upside here he’s flash he’s made plays let’s make sure that we’re doing everything we possibly can as a staff to make sure he’s heading in the right direction and if this is available let’s try it out here now uh what probably my favorite thing of the off favorite storyline of the offseason so far is that Fields has been getting better throughout the process early on there were questions like okay Justin Fields he’s holding on to the football like a second too late my personal takeaway on it was okay we know Fields isn’t like this top five elite level quarterback of course there’s going to be mistakes and there’s going to be you know areas where you can look at and say “Ah I wish I had that throwback or that play back that sack back or something.” Um but you know he’s learning a new offense year one of a brand new team with a brand new coaching staff doing it for the first time as well so of course like the expectation cannot be Justin Fields better go 13 of 14 for three touchdowns in a mandatory mini camp practice you know like early June you know what I mean so there was that whole segment of it but then you have this other segment where it’s like Fields isn’t being hit there’s no contact allowed at these practice it’s not like Will McDonald is flying off the line of scrimmage and spearing Justin Fields into the turf if the QB knows that they’re not going to be getting hit there’s not that subconscious clock going off in your head like I got to get rid of the ball right this second you know especially in this portion of the off season so then you’re factoring in that fields as a running quarterback you literally cannot make plays running the football down the field picking up first downs getting into getting into the end zone putting moves on defenders if you throw the football away so for better or for worse what Justin Fields is right now the reality of him as a player is that he is a running quarterback uh one of the best in football so in order for him to make plays running the football you can’t just dump the ball you can’t just you know bail out of the play by throwing it away if the first two reads aren’t there in other words what might be happening is instead of that split-second decision that you have to make get rid of the football fields much like Lamar Jackson much like Patrick Mahomes much like Kyler Murray Josh Allen Jaylen Herz it’s not get rid of the football now it’s not like Breeze it’s not like Brady it’s not like you know Matt Ryan some of these other like immobile pocket passers it’s maybe let me hang on to it for a second cuz there could be something later on either a little bit better or I can maybe make something happen with my legs just my two cents but according to Rosenblad here Fields has been improving in a lot of different areas so he goes on to say it’s only OTAAS in mini camp uh where fields can’t be touched and there isn’t tackling but he showed a lot of progress throughout the spring uh if he was holding on to the ball too long at the start of OTAAS he was making quicker decisions by the end of mini camp he’s thrown dimes like a 50-yard bomb to Garrett Wilson followed by a throw in the back of the end zone uh to Josh Reynolds with pinpoint accuracy but Glenn has been more impressed with some of the uh some of the throws that Fields didn’t make like on the first day of mini camp when he rolled out of the pocket saw nobody was open and just threw it away rather than forcing it reading that’s awesome right and of course it is early but I will say how would you feel if we were getting reports that Fields is getting worse if he’s not picking up the offense if Garrett’s still a little frustrated with the quarterback position i mean there are teams out there there are quarterbacks out there young quarterbacks out there where you dive into reports like these and the reviews aren’t so great the reviews are yeah he’s going to need a lot of work he maybe he’s a little behind on the process that that’s not really what’s happening right now with Justin Fields and this Jets team so uh yeah cannot wait for the start of the season thanks so much for watching i appreciate you guys and as always go Jets no no that’s the name [Music]

I thought he was the 2nd best QB in that draft. Maybe now he can prove that and maybe more. Steelers will look very stupid if he turns out to be a franchise QB or something close to that!
The season basically comes down to Fields' level of play. If he can be a great QB, we're a playoff team. If he struggled, we're a top 10 pick again team. I think the defense will be fine. Its good that theyre focusing on developing Fields because he is the key to having a successful season imo. He doesnt even need to be a Top 5 QB. He just needs to make smart decisions and protect the ball.
Iam going to remain positive about fields. Arron glenn came in this organization with plan of attack and betterment
This makes sense, given how critical the QB is. I am putting my hope on Scott Turner rather than London ( who quite honestly, strikes me as one of AGs questionable hire, he reminds me of the owners nephew being hired as a manager in a company ).
Lets hope this focus is real. With Saleh with Wilson I really felt like they almost assumed that he would develop on his own and that helped lead to his dismal play here ( I am not saying Wilson is good, I think he isn't that good and he had some attitude problems as well).
If anything they are giving Fields as much attention as possible and seeing if he takes it and runs with it ( no pun intended).
Since there is no contact in training camp we won't see how he is under pressure until pre season ( if he plays, which I hope, along with other starters).
I like the fact that unlike Saleh it looks like Glenn understands there is no such thing as a minor detail, and they are looking at everything.
Y😊
Keep up the good work
Better Fields than Zach who can't process
GLORY!!!'m favoured, $140K every 3weeks! And am retired i can now give back to the locals in my community and also support God's work and the church. God bless America 🇺🇸 ❤️
Look at Geno and Sam. The coach and players around them made all the difference. Fields had terrible OL and coaching with the Bears. He played okay with the Steelers so he can be an above average QB. That’s all we are asking for a Jets fan.
The off-season is always the best time to be a Jet fan.
It's definitely a good tool to help develop him i think if they are using virtual glasses like VR vision Pro, in combination from the footage on the Go Cam, Fields would be able to review his plays and see where he made mistakes or where on the field he is not looking , it could help train his brain to process things quicker. I dont recall any Jet coaching staff in recent memory developing their QB so this is a good start.
I like the GoPro training a lot. It makes a lot of sense on both sides. Questioning things like, you called this why were you looking here, then picking his brain and understanding how he ticks and whatnot. It's a lot of trust between the team and coaches as well.
I really hope it all works out finally man. Maybe the bad juju from johnson will slide over to the soccer team or whatever. haha
So, the facts are crazy with Fields. If you look at Fields he has put all up of these stats and narratives without playing a full season one time. Why is that important? Because if he stays the same and just finished the season he would be putting up career numbers. If you go off of his last Bears Season numbers then Justin would hit about 3200 pyds. which would be 2oth in the league and ahead of SB MVP Hurts. I think he would have 21 ptds, which would have been tied for 13th in the league. 12 t.o . i think he gets 120 carries for 700 ryds and 8 rtds. That would be enough to get the jets to fringe play off contention And it should get him another year. I honestly think he will do much better than that and will get another year as the starter.
Curious what you think it’s going to take from Fields this season to not take a QB in the next draft.
Plenty of top 5 QBs have never won a SB. Many of QBs who aren't top 10 have. Your QB needs to manage your offense and not make mistakes that kill you. That's what we need to see from Fields.
Man, if only I could sleep as soundly as your cat does!
Jets fans check out the only game JF has played against Steelers defense, he passed for 290 and led a late 4th quarter comeback only for the defense to give up the lead with a minute or so left
Fields development better be a priority.
Then again, how much more do we expect Fields to develop as a 5th year pro?
I have a hard time believing that a player with Fields talent can't be developed. Let's face it, he'll never be a top 10 qb. But the talent is there to at least be middle of the pack, 14,15, 16 or so.
It can be viewed as a new chapter for Fields if you're optimistic. I view it as a last chance saloon for him. If it doesn't click for him here he won't ever move to another team as a starting QB. He'll be a good back up. As a Jet fan I hope it goes well for him. Like someone has already mentioned, it'd be interesting to know what a successful season for Fields looks like? 2026 is a good QB draft class I've heard?
