Michael Misa Meets With The Media Ahead Of The 2025 NHL Draft

weather here too you’re almost at the end of the road here can you just look back at this whole process um like look Yeah the whole the whole draft process yeah I mean I think overall this this year’s flown by for me I think um you know going to the combine was a fun experience uh you know being able to talk to all the teams kind of see where their heads are at and then coming to the draft it’s ultimately you know the end goal to get drafted to the NHL so um you know looking forward to it what’s it going to be like to hear your name definitely a lot of excitement um you know being here with my family and you know friends and cousins are going to be here so um yeah i mean it’s what it’s all about you want to hear your name call just get on the set you have a feeling for that tomorrow i have a feeling you have a feeling like first second team yeah i don’t know i mean obviously I want to get drafted as high as I can but um you know it’s up to the team to decide what they’re looking for and um ultimately whoever does draft be super grateful it’s going to be a different draft with the Central what do you think that’s all going to be like the sort of the the virtual stuff the Zoom calls you know you’re not going to go up and shake 25 hands when you get drafted yeah I know i think that part’s a little bit more simpler but I I think you know I heard you get to like go into a room and kind of talk to the team on a TV or whatever afterwards so that part’s pretty cool but overall it’s still kind of like the same draft experience which I which I I like so um yeah how did you manage in the last year or two to be under so much scrutiny to be to be watched that much to be asked so many question so many interviews do you feel it’s like a long year that’s going to be yeah I mean definitely I think that’s that’s part of it the draft you’re just you know all the interviews and media and stuff like that but um you know you get used to it a little bit and um yeah no I’ve enjoyed it so um yeah overall it’s been a good year what have you learned about yourself through the whole process um you know I think the biggest thing is just you know believing in myself i I came into this year having you know a lot to prove to people myself and um you know playing with confidence believing in myself and what was it like to be an exceptional status player not many guys get that what was it what was it like for for young kids stepping into a team like that yeah I know uh tremendous honor you know when I when I did get exceptional status I think um Sagena did a really good job for me my my three years that I was there and um you know I couldn’t be couldn’t be more grateful to play with some of the teammates I got to play with and you know just to stop stop and call this organization so would you do it again like was there was there any debate about whether it was the right move at the time what was the sort of the thought process like yeah I mean it was I think it was the right move um like my whole life I played up here with with 2006 foreign players so I you know I found like why not try to get drafted with them and just throw my name in the hat and see what happens and you know it ultimately it ended up working out so grateful for that what’s the pressure like though when you’re when you’re that young you know there’s so talk about eyes on you what was what was it like at that age to have so much tension yeah no it’s definitely something you got to get used to my my first year there’s yeah a lot of expectations pressure on me but I think the best thing for you to do in that situation is kind of just block out the noise and focus on the um you know ask for advice just worry about what you would Yeah well every guy that’s getting interviewed right now I think I know pretty well um so many other guys too I it’s it’s kind of cool you’re much like a team getting to do this together um you know you build connections with all them throughout throughout the you know playing with them at prospect games and media stuff like this so um yeah it’s been a great thing like two three years ago it seems that there was no no contest Michael you said would be the number one in 2025 but now we’re approaching the day and it’s not so sure is it something you like if it’s did it sore for you or it’s okay um yeah well I I mean I think ultimately I had the year to be able to go number one it’s ultimate what teams are deciding um but yeah coming out of this year I I I really had no regrets with how I how I performed and so it’s it’s not up to me at this point cuz they is there a rivalry between Matt and you or Not at all i mean he’s he’s one of my good friends it’s it’s just something that we’re both going to be happy for each other wherever we do go and um you know just being able to you know be here with him at this moment it’s pretty cool did you met the Islanders yeah I I met them at the combine um had a dinner with them um yeah great organization had great conversation with them so um yeah nothing bad to say about it what’s your mindset right now we talked about this years like now 24 hours away from flying having it happen yeah um for me it’s just kind of enjoying this this moment this next couple of days trying to take it all in it only really happens once so um just being here and you know doing all this all this stuff being here with my family it’s it’s it’s really special for me and um you know when when I do get drafted I I’m going to you know be super excited how many people you going to have out um I just got about 20 like 18 people i mean was uh your brother went through this last year um like he didn’t kind of get his full experience what you know I’m sure you talked to him he’s nervous i talked to Victor said his brother’s more nervous than he is is uh is kind of feeling the same thing right now yeah he’s he’s been like pretty relaxed about it he definitely is is nervous like my my whole family is they’re they just want to they want to get it over with you know um but yeah he’s he’s been my biggest supporter through this whole thing so um you know I’m happy happy he’s my brother do you have any idea what could happen um any feeling yeah I mean there there is you know possibilities it’s all kind of what teams are looking for and stuff like that so um like I said whoever does draft me I mean I’m super grateful and just work worked my hardest for them sorry i’m sure you were you were disappointed not getting a good camp invite how did that push you in the second half of the season um yeah i think you know just trying to play my game throughout that whole year i think it was a little disappointing i I wasn’t able to you know help help them out or even get an invite to you know try and prove myself but also we still had a season going on so I kind of just shifted my mind back to you know sagging on trying to help them win and um Oh yeah definitely was like a little chip on my shoulder sorry if this has been this before i just got here uh the the format has changed a little bit this year for the draft uh would you have liked to walk down the stairs hear your name in an arena and have the full experience instead of something a bit different yeah I think for the players itself it is pretty similar i mean I know like all the teams are in here which definitely is a little different but like you’re still going to hear your name called the walk down kind of thing and get that that experience so yeah I’m I’m fine with it have you and your family been able to enjoy LA a little bit yeah we went to Santa Monica last night um which was pretty cool um saw the beaches there and then I’m golfing at Riviera after this so I’m looking forward to that um yeah but yeah it’s it’s been good so far yeah going to stay over after the draft a little bit and kind of enjoy it or Well yeah i don’t really know what the plan is in terms of what what like the team that drafting wants me to do but I’m hoping at least stay for Saturday watch some of my other buddies get drafted i think it’s it I have a lot of you know um friends that I’ve worked out with skated with so I I I just want to see some of them get drafted as well congratulate them so i thought about some of the teams towards the top of this draft that you know if we’re going to play some legendary players we hear you grew up watching positive match what is the thought of getting to line up against some of those guys and going through your hand as you get through this process yeah that that’s that’s a good question i mean for me it’s kind of like one step at a time i got to worry about getting drafted training camp getting better in the summer and then you know ultimately shift my focus to the actual NHL if I if I do get the chance the next next year to play and like you said that’d be that’d be pretty cool to think about yeah did you get a chance to watch any of the chase or or anything pro last year to the island that pretty heavily with it happening on Long Island yeah uh I think I mean most I think most hockey fans were probably watching that go down last year it’s it’s pretty pretty cool to see um you know what he’s done in the the NHL OB so um one last question uh some of the top prospects are played in the OHL what does that speak to the league just being able to particularly be such you know high quality in terms of even you have top level guys that are going to be in the draft obviously but then some guys who win a little bit later and then get to shy later on junior draft yeah I think it’s it says a lot about you know the OHL and uh what they do for players development I mean there there’s it there’s so many great talents that have came out of the OHL and um yeah it says a lot about their league so um I I think each year they do they do a great job you’ve seen you know new new talent and new guys so it’s it’s cool it’s cool to see michael there’s been a lot of you know back and forth like you know who just a lot of rumors out there right and I know that you try not to pay too much attention to it but do you find yourself do you talk with your agent every day about sort of hey what’s what are you hearing what’s going on or do you guys just kind of not talk about it yeah I mean I think if if I was feeling um in any sort of way I kind of you know he’s he’s the guy I talk to um but you know I think just staying off the phones the next couple days and trying to just enjoy the experience I think is something I’m going to do and um yeah my you know my agent does a great job he’s he’s going to kind of you know be on that side and figuring everything out for me so do you get texts from from family or friends like “Hey I read this hey I read this.” Like not really um I’m I’m sure there is stuff out there but yeah I haven’t I haven’t been really following anything so yeah yeah how long has the phone been off um not not even so much being off just like I I don’t think there’s a point in looking on social media now just kind of getting in your own head if you do see something i think it’s just you’re in LA you got to got to enjoy this have fun so that’s that’s kind of what I’m doing i know you even asked this but if it is the San Jose Sharks what would that mean to you you know how exciting would that be be Yeah it’ be a dream i mean um such a great organization i think um you know some of the the players they already have there and um you know their their young core coming up it’s it’s pretty cool to see what what their organization will look like down the line and um I got I got you know a teammate there that played on Sagenol with me we had we had pretty good connections so um yeah maybe we could run that back you uh you play guitar right as a hobby uh the I don’t know why they put I was kind of confused why they put that there like I’m I’m learning i’m not great at it but I was gonna say the people want to know can you play Wonder Wall no no no Wonder Wall yet i’m I’m just like learning the strings here and there like um but yeah it’s something I am I’m picking up so maybe maybe after the summer I I’ll be able to play some songs uh you mentioned Shernop what did it mean for him to kind of come in i know he he didn’t really speak English very well but you guys built an instant chemistry right away can you talk about Shernish yeah he’s uh one of the best players I’ve ever played with and it it was he didn’t even speak English so it was pretty impressive how we found each other out there but um yeah he’s he’s he’s a big boy too like you see his legs off the ice you’re like “Oh my god this guy’s this guy’s a monster.” So I I you know I could I could see him playing in the NHL as soon as next year uh doesn’t help hurt that he played against the KHL was it Did he mention you know just kind of going from playing grown men and then kind of playing against the OHL competition not not really as we like you try and talk to him he he’d more just like laugh at things cuz he wasn’t great at English but um yeah like great great player so interview with you at I think it was TSN yesterday and bunch of Star Wars posters behind you are you Star Wars fan or is that just the room you’re in that was um that’s my dad i mean I I watched most of those movies but my dad growing up was a huge Star Wars fan so um we Yeah we do have like a lot of like posters cool cool photos down in our basement well your daddy has to pick yeah so I will appreciate
