Full Dobson trade details

  1. This is considered a weak draft class. They HAVE to use those picks to move up

  2. Whether we win or lose this trade depends on how much more it takes to move up for Hagens. And if we don’t trade up at all, this isn’t a good trade

  3. Looks like Montreal really wanted him. They paid New York handsomly for the right to pay Dobson all that money.

Youth movement on Long Island incoming.

    Two questions…

1-So where does Hagens realistically go?

2-Are 16 and 17 enough to get you there?

  4. Can anyone tell me, a Habs fan, about Dobson game? I’m not sure how to feel about him as a fit since hes likely not taking PP1 from Hutson. Can the guy actually defend, and does he use his size?

  5. Honestly take that all day for a guy who seemingly took a massive step back this season. Now Darche can package these picks to maybe make Schaegens a reality.

  6. Back to back picks in top 20 is enticing no matter what the draft looks like.

  7. If we move up for Hagens, fine. Schafer is a Dobson+ and we keep $10mm of cap space for free agents we desperately need up front.

If we don’t move up this is a terrible trade. Also I’ll say it now, prepare yourselves for him to randomly put up 90 points the next few seasons and suddenly become the best defender in NHL history.

  8. I don’t like this trade at all. Dobson still had 39 points in a down year. Hope this doesn’t turn into another case of regret like Toews. Maybe they go for someone big with cap space?

  9. I’m underwhelmed with the return right now, but I need to see what Darche does with those picks.

It’s clear to me that Dobson drove the bus on this deal and backed us into a corner by dictating his destination. He screwed us.

Let’s see what magic Darche in his hat tonight because if we end up keeping those picks and making them, I’ll be kind of pissed.

If it’s not for Hagens, perhaps he’s got deals lined up with those picks for players who can help us.

That said, as it stands we have 5 1st round picks in tonight and next years draft. That’s bananas.

  10. No 2026 picks? And no premium prospect back??Unless there’s a deal in place to move into the top 10 and get a blue chip player this is an awful return.

  11. I’m whelmed by this one. I guess it depends on what happens with 16 and 17

  12. I think we will see pageau and the two firsts we just acquired for the hagens pick.

  13. Take good care of Heineman for us. We loved him here in Montreal, I can’t see you guys not liking him too. Best of luck on the rebuild/retool.

  14. What else do you think the Islanders would have to add to a package with these two picks to move up to get Hagens?

  15. I wanted him to stay too, but we have to understand maybe he didn’t want to stay here and Darche’s hands are kinda tied.

  16. I don’t know how much more you could have gotten for him. 9.5 for eight years is a lot to invest in a guy who may have peaked. That contract might look really fucking bad very soon.

  17. Any chance there’s more to this deal? Been over an hour and neither team has confirmed the trade

  18. NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! I JUST GOT TWO DOBSON JERSEYS TWO SEASONS AGO.😭😭😭😭😭😭

  19. I kinda love it. Dobson had flashes of brilliance but I wish he had more time to develop under Boychuk or Chara.

  20. If moving up for Hagens doesn’t work I think the Hawks might be looking to move up into that range with 25 overall and next years panthers first. As a Hawks fan I think if Carbonneau is available they’d pull the trigger.

  21. 8 year contract would scare some teams for sure. If they use those picks to move up in the draft I think it’s a trade to be made.

  22. Disaster, not even a prospect and 2 mid first rounders in a horrible draft for a very good 25 year old defenseman

  23. Dobson had great upside offensively but I saw enough games where he was soft physically and I think Roy wants a team to have more of an edge to them.
Look at the Panthers, any of their top 6 offensive players would eat Dobson raw
