you’re listening to another episode of Locked on Blazers part of the Locked On podcast network available wherever you get podcast and also on YouTube thanks for making this show your first listen coming at you each and every weekday Monday through Friday so make it a part of your daily routine make it your first listen tell your friends to do the same as locked on Blazers your team every day in today’s show we’ve made it to the end of both rounds of the 2025 NBA draft we’ll check in on where the Blazers stand because free agency starts on stinking Monday the off season rolls along in earnest uh Portland did not make a pick in the second round we’ll talk all about sort of what happened after they didn’t do anything other than draft Yong Hansun and and and Young is Young is is uh still remains a polarizing pick in sort of the national media but I want to talk about uh the Blazers pursuit of him and and uh and some reporting from various sources around uh around how they landed on him at pick 16 plus Caleb Love signs a two-way contract blazers uh filling out the back half of the roster with a Tarheel legend we’ll talk about that to close the show and some thoughts in general on the NBA draft but let’s let’s talk about what happened with Blazers came into the second round armed with zero draft picks they left with zero players that’s what happens if you can’t make a pick um you know if you don’t have a pick to make you can’t make one that that’s like kind of just sort of the basic that’s the basic logic of the math you of the draft rather um you know you could buy your way in but if you if you send money out in a trade you you could end up with some other limitations you’d be hardcapped at the second apron that’s not going to come up for the Blazers can’t imagine that they are a team that pays the tax this year but we shall see um and in any case they didn’t do anything so the move that they made in the draft happened on night one um I don’t love the twoight draft i don’t love it i think it it from from what I understand it’s just way easier for teams just way better for for like the folks who actually work in NBA teams and maybe it’s better for for uh ESPN or whatever the the partners at Disney to to broadcast it on two two separate nights but second round’s got no juice it’s got no juice i liked the old the old uh you know 4hour NBA draft but the Blazers they come away with one pick in the draft they traded back from 11 to get Yang Hunen the the 20-year-old Chinese center uh who’s who’s played the last two years professionally in the CBA this Chinese basketball association yang’s going to come over here in fact you are listening to Friday June 27th show and Yang’s on his way flying from Brooklyn to Portland i assume he’s already landed as you were listening to this i assume he’s already landed as I’m recording this blazers will introduce Yang at a press conference at the team’s practice facility on Friday uh for my new listeners uh this show comes out during the week so I won’t have a show immediately reacting to that press conference but I will uh early next week uh probably posting sometime Sunday Portland time we’ll talking about what what happened at that press conference and looking ahead to free agency uh so after you know they made they they obviously traded for Drew Holiday they uh they drafted Young and this is where the Blazers stand at the end of the draft they’ve got 14 players under contract and they’re about $8 million shy of the luxury tax um you know I can’t imagine that they end up a tax team but they are they are by virtue of being below the tax have access to the non- taxpayer mid-level exception um and and then to the taxpayer exception as well um if it just doesn’t seem very likely that this team is going to be a tax team but they do have some wiggle room to add to the roster uh an NBA roster is is 15 players they have one open roster spot after the draft one of probably the big reasons that they didn’t get into the second round and draft anyone is because one they didn’t have a draft pick and two like the the opportunity cost of filling the 15th roster spot with a second rounder this year that probably didn’t appeal to them because they they might have to make trades and make some unbalanced trades um and and uh they it probably behooves them right now to operate with an open roster spot however an important note here as we get into it is that that 14 players does not include Delano Banton who is an unrestricted free agent and it does not include Jabari Walker who I think will likely end up an unrestricted free agent uh because his qualifying offer he’s he’s uh because he’s he’s a veteran with um with his time of service in the league he is a restricted free he could be a restricted free agent but the Blazers would have to extend him a qualifying offer so how that how that works is the Blazers extend him a qualifying offer which is an offer sheet for a one-year contract walker signs that QO he signs that qualifying offer and then he would become an he would become a restricted free agent which would mean that the Blazers would have the opportunity to match any offer he receives on the open market or if he doesn’t receive an offer he would just get paid that that qualifying offer the problem is that that that qualifying offer is is higher than his minimum contract number and I don’t think Jabari Walker is going to get more than the minimum based on where he is right now in his career on the market so if he were to come back to the Blazers it would just make more sense for him to um hit unrestricted free agency and sign at a lower number perhaps multi-year whatever it is um but but I assume that’s my that’s my assumption i literally have done zero reporting on this is a total guess and if you’re a long time if you’re a recent listener to the program you know that my educated guesses have been really bad recently but um but yeah that’s my guess based on based on the quick back of the napkin math that’s actually like front of an Excel sheet math but um it’s it I assume that Walker will be an unrestricted free agent and Delano Band will be unrestricted free agent and the Blazers will go into free agency which will be begins in the middle of the day 3:00 on Monday and on Monday afternoon here in Portland um with $8 million below the the luxury tax threshold and probably a need to clean up the roster a little bit you know I want to talk about Young in the second segment and I will but like when you draft this guy 16 and you make all this they kind of you know they chased him right he’s 20 he’s probably going to take a little bit of seasoning i don’t think you can expect him in year one to be a um I think right now as the roster stands he just straight up won’t play um and and and if they do make some moves for him to play I think it would be unreasonable for him to you expect Young to be a positive contributor in year one just because generally almost every rookie is bad and two like he’s 20 and he’s making a transition from the CBA to the NBA the Blazers aren’t counting on him being good in the fall though you make this pick because you think his upside in you know many many future seasons to come is there right like it’s you’re not banking on like okay well he really needs to play and be good right away um by virtue of making this pick like he was 19 on draft night right like when you draft a teenager who’s making a a massive leap in in competition level you kind of understand like it’s baked in that he’s going to take a while to get up to speed and Joe Cronin admitted as much right the idea isn’t that he’s like this plugandplay player ready to go the idea is that he is um that they think he has really high upside and is going to be really good that of course remains to be seen but I think like importantly um the Blazers roster is crowded and doesn’t have space for him to play but I don’t know if there’s like a ton of incentive for him to play but there is probably incentive to like specifically try to trade DeAndre Aton this summer if they can or at some point before the trade deadline unless he unless he walk in free agency as he’s entering the final year of his contract and the Blazers in the last two drafts have drafted two centers impossible to say world where um I guess it’s possible there’s some real believers out there but it’s ve it’s I would very very slim that DeAndre could possibly be part of the Blazers future plans based on the last two draft picks that they’ve made um Donovan Klingan and and and Young Hansen um so the Blazers probably need to make some sort of roster clarifying moves um I think the priority would be probably trading one of Aiden or Rob Williams i would probably prioritize Eightton but I don’t think the Blazers will necessarily but they like I think Rob Williams has basically no trade value because of of the injury concern and Aiden has really challenging trade value because of how much money he’s paid 35 million and what you’re pay when you’re trading for DeAndre Aiden you’re either getting this expiring contract which could have some value or you’re pay or you’re trading for the right to pay him um and that is uh we’ll see which teams have the appetite for that so I like I think they could trade a center and I think that I think that makes sense um but I don’t think um and I assume they will actively shop DeAndre Aiden i assume they’ll actively try to trade him just we we’ll see what we’ll see what what the market is for him and how the Blazers are able to do that um I don’t think there’ll be players in free agency the free agent class is not that is not that appealing they obviously still need like shooting that’s like desperately a thing they need so in any transaction they make be it a a small free agent signing or uh trades to kind of balance out the roster if they could find a taker for Jeremy Grants I think there that would have some real value as well although you could argue that Grant was one of the best shooters remaining on the roster um he he forgot to make how to make two-pointers last year but he made three-pointers just fine like shooting is shooting is a big priority but they’ve got a little bit of wiggle room to uh to improve the roster and and and make some add some value add some talent to this team uh be it immediate term value uh or or immediate like immediate talent for to to try to win right away which seems to be the Drew Holiday move suggests they’re trying to win right away they have some wiggle room they have a roster spot 8 million bucks heading into free agency i want to talk about Young uh the Blazers when they drafted Yon Hunson it was it was always going to be because it was such a surprise and such a pick so um so far removed from the consensus thought on where Young’s value was it was always going to be something that didn’t go over particularly well with like sort of the the larger media apparatus that covers the league and let me tell you it didn’t and I want to talk a little bit about that and a little bit about the pursuit of Young in the second segment um because it was one of the most surprising picks of um in a in a while in the early in the first round um and I think like how they got there and and why they did what they did uh is still worth talking about and and and interesting cuz cuz welcome welcome to Rip City Young uh and if you’re a new listener who is uh who’s a young fan what’s up welcome i heard from a handful of you over email and uh I’m happy to have you on board let’s do it let’s talk young in the second segment join me there won’t you first though let’s talk underwear my underwear and it could be your underwear as well it’s Ski you might know Skiims because they make famously feminine cuts of underwear underwear for the for the for the a fem physique but now they’re making underwear for everybody that’s men that’s women that’s folks whoever you are you can go get yourself some super quality very comfortable uh undergarments it’s a perfect balance of comfort and style uh Ski was nice enough to send me over a couple pairs of underwear and this is the highest compliment I can pay them they are indeed extremely comfortable is lightweight material that feels amazing almost like you’re wearing nothing at all i put them on in the morning and then I do not think about them for the remainder of my day because the worst thing that can happen to you while you are living your life is that you have to consider what’s going on with your underwear that stinks that’s not You’re not having a good time if you’re living that way so like you know I can wear Skiims underwear if I’m working out i can wear Skims underwear if I’m just living everyday life going grocery shopping sitting at my desk whatever it might be and I won’t notice them cuz they’re super comfortable and then they don’t give you any problems skiims are great so go get yourself a pair whether you want to go shop Skiims men’s or all of their Skiims lines they’re available at skims.com and let them know we sent you after you place your order select podcast in the survey and select my show in the dropdown menu that follows all right let’s talk young Hunson the Blazers surprise the world right they trade back from 11 they get to 16 they get young 19-year-old hanging up out in the stands uh wearing respplendant in a white suit i believe I said yesterday and I’ll say it again because it’s a stupid line um he’s he’s he’s rocking the he’s rocking the silk shirt um he he puts on the Grizzlies hat later gets a Blazers hat uh his head’s too big to to snap the snapback in the back he’s just wearing the hat propped on his head all day long living all evening long I should say living the dream right a young man about to celebrate his 20th birthday realizing his NBA dream but the perception so like in in Yang’s world this is a dream come true he there’s a video I saw circulating on the internet of the moment his phone blows up and he’s finds out yes indeed probably from his agent Rich Paul of Clutch Sports Portland at 16 it’s for real going to happen we knew they liked you and it’s happening and he’s just a big smile you know comes down on the stage he he was in the building right had a feeling this was going to happen but nobody else did nobody else knew I mean my man Raphael Barlo has been writing about Young since freaking November of 2024 uh the polarizing prospect who at the time Raph said was a top 40 talent top 16 as it turns out he’s in the building though and a uh a listener Mark I told you I heard from a couple a couple listeners uh Mark is is is an American citizen but living in in China and Mark sent uh a note saying that um uh that Ching Dong the the organiz the basketball organization in the CBA the the basketball team that that Yang was playing for kind of alerted folks in in the area that that um the perception was that to tune in to the NBA draft cuz Yang was going to get drafted um I I didn’t get a ton of details and I followed up with Mark and I didn’t hear back so if you know more about that situation email me locks onerspgmail.com i would love to know what that looks like i’m super curious but like um Inching Dao like apparently was like they also it was probably through Young and his and his his people in Clutch Sports right um that Young was getting buzz right after the in his in his postdraft interview young told reporters in Brooklyn that his perception was that he was he thought he was going to be drafted in the first in late in the first round that’s why he was in the building that’s why he’s wearing a suit he was ready to be there because he knew he was going to be drafted blaze made his dreams come true a little bit earlier than than uh maybe even Yang thought but he thought he the reason you know it’s it’s two nights right like he didn’t show up tonight too showed up tonight one because he had some ins intel that he was going to he was going to get drafted um I I think still the Blazers pick stunned people uh Sam Vini said it was the most one of the most stunning picks of the last decade um Vini of Sam Vini of the Athletic not a fan of the pick I will say um but but uh but settles you know like the the perception when when you do make a pick that is so far outside of the consensus the like immediate draft reactions are always going to be negative no one’s going to be say like “Yeah I had this dude way lower on the board and so or I didn’t have or I don’t know who this is but I looked up the other you know like people get just like paid to blog about it maybe don’t like do like hardcore draft analysis.” Like yeah we’re giving this one a bad grade because I don’t know who Yon Hunson is like I don’t I don’t know who that is um so like of course the immediate draft grades from like the the NBA press range from like pretty freaking bad like some Fs out there to some like C’s right like no one is when you when you when you make a pick that bucks what is the sort of general thinking on a prospect’s range like no one is going to say like “Yeah good job.” So I don’t think you can you’re going to go out there and find um you’re going to find someone who’s saying like the Blazers did a great job my my my my like stance here is that I don’t know him enough about Young to tell him either way i I can say with confidence this was a stunning pick by anyone’s standards right like a very very surprising pick but um the Blazers are you know they laid their claim right this was their guy they traded back to get their guy and what Joe Cronin said last night was 16 was about as far back as he felt comfortable um felt comfortable dropping before making a selection i’ve seen some speculation on the internet um particularly perusing our/Rip City that the Minnesota Timberwolves were definitely going to take young at 17 i cannot I I cannot find any confirmation anywhere on the internet of that reporting um I think that is generally some speculation it might be from from a sources I haven’t seen um I’d I’d love for you to share it with me if you see it but but what does appear um what does appear to be to be widely believed by a variety of media people including Sanvicini where I first saw it in the Athletic um is that Brooklyn was interested and Brooklyn had four picks from 19 to 27 so they had 19 and then three picks in the 20s right um and and they had a real international flavor to their draft like uh they took Jor Demine um from Russia at 8 uh they took Ben Saraf they took uh Nolan Trayor they took a couple Americans and Danny Wolf and Pittsburgh North Carolina’s own Drake Palar he’ll stand up at 22 um and like Joe Sai’s Chinese and he owns the Brooklyn Nets like there’s there’s reason there’s you don’t need to really uh the reason that the perception is the Nets might have taken Young is probably because they were interested in taking Young and the reason that maybe this got all the way back toQing Dao and and and China and that organization is cuz maybe the Nets really had some real interest it sounds like Brooklyn um in one of their their myriad picks late in the first round and they did end up making all five first round picks a record of any NBA team probably because just weren’t that tradable picks in the 20s maybe just weren’t like you just couldn’t get value for them well we’ll just keep them right um unless you were able to trade up to 13 those lucky devil hawks right or exc I mean from 13 like they just like they didn’t have value um it’s it is it’s quite something uh like so Young’s in the building he’s under the impression he’s going to get drafted uh the the the Nets reportedly are interested and had a lot of opportunities to do so um and the Blazers made their move they traded back and they said “We’re worried like we’re 19 is we don’t want to get too close to 19 we don’t even want to drop further back so if the Nets do end up packaging say 19 and 22 to move up and get our guy like this was the Blazers guy.” And uh Sean Hiken over at Rose Garden Report wrote a piece today about the Blazers pursuit uh multi-year pursuit of Young uh starting in 2023 i speculated last night that it almost certainly was the um the uh Febasian World Cup in in in 2022 but it sounds like it was it was the World Cup in 2023 that’s when Young played against Alex Sar uh as as an 18-year-old when Sar was 19 and played pretty well and that was like when he first got on the Blazers radar um I’m not going to recap Sean’s whole like go subscribe to Rose Guten Report and like support support independent journalism but like that in 2023 the Blazers kind of like got wind of of of Young and then and then start started to like really build their book um I think it is a little overstated that like a 2-year pursuit is something unique every nowadays in the modern world um guys get scouted a long time like American American basketball players will get scouted from you know junior year of high school through their if not earlier but junior year of high school through freshman year of college right you’ll get a three-year book on a guy from when he’s 17 to 19 the difference is that they did a you know a two-year book on building a two two-year scouting book on a freaking 17-year-old in China all the way across the world and that they they traded up and made an a pick that was sort um no one else saw coming but I will note this i will note this this is my last thought go go go go go um go look read Sean’s work at Rose Garden Report it’s it’s it’s a good story on on sort of the Blazers pursuit uh pursuit of Young it’s it’s it’s worth reading um that’s roseguardenreport.com if you’re if you’re new to the market I want to make sure you’re read you’re getting everybody um but uh like I I think an important thing here for me and this is something I probably missed is that the Blazers really valued Yong and we had a clue we had a clue we knew they gave us a very very obvious hint that they liked him and I just missed it and I’m not going to miss it again i want to tell you about that clue in the third segment plus we’ll talk Caleb Love and some other thoughts on the how the Blazers felt about Hanson about Young Hansen um they loved Young they loved Young they straight up loved Young and we should have seen it coming on May 29th the Blazers hosted a workout asa Newell Jace Richardson Liam McNeely Rasher Fleming Will Riley and Yang Hansen from theQing Dao Eagles in China and I dismiss this as yeah they got some first round talent and they also got this big Chinese kid stupid the Blazers ha under Joe Cronin when they when they target lottery talent have brought those players into the building that is the tell they get them in the building they want to see them in person they want to work these players out they haven’t worked out everybody you know um they haven’t worked out uh like Jabari Walker who they drafted late in the second round they didn’t get him in the building right but in So this May 29th workout is the highest profile public workout that they did the entire time now they worked out some other players that are relatively high-profile but these were private workouts the media wasn’t invited these were closed and later reported private workouts with um uh Spar Yakatunis and and Derek Queen Jagger Dean and Cullen Boles like those players you know generally rated much higher probably than this whole group and certainly then Yang Hansen in uh in sort of the consensus drafts but Young is part of this group with Asa Newell considered first- round talent jason Jace Richardson Liam McNeely Rashir Fleming Will Riley like for uh Rashir Fleming first pick of the second round these are all all first round talents and Young on May 29th when the Blazers brought uh Young into the building they told us that they really they valued him at the same level as all of these other first round guys we should have known we should have known they they gave us a clear path we we as a Portland Trailblazers uh viewing people have to pay closer attention to these draft workouts they are telling they have been the most telling aspect of the Cronin era um I amum I will not dismiss like yeah I don’t know who this this teenager from China is next time laur’s like I know him but he’s you know he’s oh he’s mocked in the 40s like he’s just a he’s not just like a charity invite this was the dude they wanted and they brought him in and they told us speaking of dudes that have been in the building Caleb Love was invited to the Blazers draft workout on May 27th and now Caleb Love a guard from North Carolina by way of Arizona his final two years he was the Pack 12 player of the year during the 23-24 season then went back to Arizona because he didn’t have a lot of draft buzz for 24-25 uh he’s he spent last season finishing up his collegiate his collegiate career averaging 17 points four boards three assists shot under 40% from the field and 34% including 34% from the uh three-point line 89% from the foul line um Kale loves a Tar Hill in 2022 he buried Duke a second time they they invited us back and we and we buried Duke a second time sent Coach K to his funeral again u this is career funeral the man is still alive but um listen listen Caleb loves target legend i’m a Chapel Hill kid and Caleb Love’s shot in the 2022 Final Four from the top of the key is one of the most iconic shots in North Carolina history for my money I think it is the most important shot of the 21st century in North and for the University of North Carolina with apologies to my man Luke May because booting Duke in the final four is a big deal they won the championship with the Luke May shot but that’s that’s for locked on Blazers not locked on uh or that’s for locked on targets not locked on Blazers caleb Love is it you know he’s he’s a six 63 guard um I do not think he’s an NBA player i’m going to be straight up with you i don’t I do not think he’s an NBA talent i’ve watched a ton of him uh he’s I don’t watch a ton of college basketball but I watch every Carolina game uh for those of you watching on YouTube the shirt I’m wearing right now is is like a classic uh Carolina blue t-shirt i was wearing this in 2022 when Cable Love hit the shot i am I am a true Chapel Hill kid um I just happened to be pushing 40 um it’s it it happens to all of us but Love was he he did not get invited to the NBA combine he got invited to the G- League Elite camp and then he didn’t play well enough in the le in the elite camp to get to get an invite to the NBA combine but the Blazers nonetheless um invited him to invite or gave him a two-way contract i think this is just a small thing filling out the back half of the roster he looks like he’s a he’s like a big physical athlete he’s not very tall not like super long or super tall he has relatively long arms but not like super tall um he’s he’s he’s not like a super plus-sized point guard but he’s an inefficient scorer a volume shooter not a natural passer physical and could be a good defender at some point i just um I like him as a like I’ll just root for him but yeah I think he’s a two-way guy and I don’t think he has a path to being an NBA player um but but hey I’ll still I’m shoot when he gets in the game you know I’m gonna mention him on the show um in any case go Tar Hills uh I digress the NBA draft was supposed to be about trades right they told us ESPN reported it jake Jake Fischer of the Stein Line reported that the the NBA draft is uh Timmy Good Times been Tim Bontamps at at ESPN and Jake Fischer from the Stein Line reported that the the NBA draft was supposed to be the busiest transactional day in league history but like no star players got traded in fact no NBA players really got traded during the NBA draft by my count two NBA players got traded during the NBA draft mark Williams and Vasile Meich meich and Williams in the same trade meich had to uh the the Suns had to had to send uh uh Meich back to Charlotte where he originally was from Charlotte back to uh to Phoenix but he he goes back to Charlotte as uh as part of to make the the Williams trade work as Williams heads over to Phoenix like those the only two players traded on draft night you know Kevin Durant got traded beforehand drew Holiday got traded beforehands desmond Bannon a pretty big trade got pretty traded beforehand it’s not like there weren’t fireworks but like there wasn’t there weren’t a lot of big trades and I think this is important for the Blazers because they do have some roster stuff to sort out as I mentioned at the top of the show it’s like they probably should trade one of the centers if possible um they still probably need center depth like you don’t want to just like totally punt on that you don’t want I don’t think like if you’re planning on being competitive going into the season with like something like Donovan Mitchell Doo-Woo wreath and Yon Hunson is like a good idea that’s that’s like that’s you’re just not going to be very good although I’m I’m I’m probably a pretty big like Don Klingan believer in terms of like impact i don’t think you want to like bank on him being a you know a 28 to 35 minute a night guy um it’s it is eventually he’ll get there but I wouldn’t I wouldn’t do it in October they probably if the Blazers can I think it would be important for them to try to trade Jeremy Grant um so like maybe there’s big trade stuff coming uh maybe there’ll be some stuff to sort out i think obviously the Blazers will pursue that i don’t know the general appetite for for trading Aiden and and Jeremy Grant but like or across the league I should say i don’t know the appetite for like acquiring either of those two gentlemen i imagine I imagine it’s relatively low almost uh pretty pretty non-existent for Grant and uh and for uh for for Eightton just because of his price point pretty narrow pretty pretty narrow uh market um you know there weren’t trades in the second round second round has no juice at all it happens in a weird quiet version of Barclays it’s no good it’s is good for teams it’s no good for TV it’s no good for me Mike Richmond um but the Blazers still have stuff to sort out and so what what I think next week is really important for is we get to the beginning of free agency it starts on Monday you get the mortorium period where you can agree to contracts but nothing gets finalized then we’ll get to July 6th when the mortorium lifts and you can finally like you know a bunch of the trades will go through uh you know the the Drew Holiday trade hasn’t been announced or finalized it could get wrapped into a bunch of other larger trades or the Blazers could just like hold out for as long as possible if they can’t wrap it into into a larger trade with you know multiple teams yada yada yada um they’ll just uh they’ll just complete it as has previously been reported but um there’s probably still some roster stuff to shake out and the Blazers like I said have an open roster spot to do so and because there wasn’t any action during the NBA draft you assume there’s still a little bit coming on the backside right you’re still a little bit a little bit on the back end of this there’s there’s going to be some some trades that happen as we head into free agency as we head into to teams like with you know this week I guess this like the this stretch from the from the draft to the end of the moratorum at the first week of July this is when teams have like the most roster flexibility right because things are a little bit um loosey goosey with like order of operations and and how much money you have to spend the way second round picks work if you use certain exceptions they don’t even count against your cap until the end of July so you have another little bit of wiggle room to get stuff done it’s the most flexible teams are ever going to be if there are going to be trades it’s it’s coming and the Blazers are you know they got to they if they want to reconfigure the roster I believe over the next two weeks is the time to do it almost certainly and then if they don’t get it done then we’re talking into the season and and towards the trade deadline that is going to do it for today’s show like I said uh introductory press conference for Yang uh with Cronin and 1. After few days, Yang will show us why he be pick in 16th of first round.🤫

Actually, Yang know him may be pick in 17th、19th、23th、26th、27th.
He got promise of first-round pick, so he go there.

But Blazers got him suddenly in 16th.🤣He is suprise.

I think that maybe Yang beat Asa Newell in the Team trial?

  2. You don’t need to know about a guy to know that he was over drafted. Cronin took a 2nd rounder at 16. It was a bad pick based on value.

  3. Love the Yang pick. Welcome big fella. It will be fun to see how he and Clingan become friends /scrimmage rivals -I see it with some serious humor

  4. In my humble opinion, I think this team may have the opportunity to put a defensive lineup on the floor that has never been seen in Portland. Jrue at the 1, Toumani at the 2, Deni at the 3, Matisse at the 4 and Clingan at the 5. Those guys will turn you over and dunk on you, they will block shots and steal the ball. Everyone wants to cry and whine about offense. When you build a defense that is potentially this good it becomes a big part of your offense. Hey, it's a lot harder to hit that jumper in the fourth Qtr when Portland is breathing down your neck and D'ing you up. By building this strong of a defense it takes pressure off their young core, it is a more reactionary style of Basketball which allows the young players to just play and use their instincts.

  5. If we still have 5 centers at the first game we have to start all 5 even if it’s just for 2 min just to troll😅 average height on the the floor would be 7’ 1

  6. Let's go back in time to the 2014 draft. You have intel that Nikola Jokic could one day be an MVP candidate and you can take him in the second round. Would you panic and take him 16th or trust he'll be there at 41? We know what Blazers would do.

I like the Yang pick, but not gathering more assets by trading down, losing your leverage by waiting until you have 5 centers to trade them, giving up two seconds for Jrue in a trade that helped the Celtics for a multitude of reasons; these are the moves that any other franchise would fire you for.

  7. Do the draft guys get upset more that they were so wrong or that they genuinely think the pick was bad? Maybe it’s a bit of both.

  8. My thoughts/questions as the Blazers move forward:
-Who is a realistic suitor for either Grant or Ayton?
-I wonder if Schmitz/Cronin are looking at the '26 draft as a big opportunity for us. Maybe we get a pick or two from one/two of the guys on the trade block.
-We want to be relatively bad this upcoming season because if our pick falls 15-30 we give it to Chicago. if we stay in that 35-40 win range we're probably fine?
-If we let Ayton walk next year, that's not as much of bad thing anymore because we took on Jrue's contract, no?
-I need Sharpe to take a step up this year… we're slated to pay him next off-season and I'm worried it's going to end up being an overpay. Camara is going to deserve a big paycheck more.
-I'm fully on the Yang Train. Our future Wemby stoppers between Yang and Clingan are essential to be competitive in the upcoming western conference landscape.
-That Deni contract continues to look so so nice. I just hope that we have another competent SF by the time he's slated to come off the books. I assume we'll resign him when that time comes but we need another wing player. That's why I was excited about Coward pre-draft night

  9. Regarding the Timberwolves — after the Trail Blazers made their pick, the camera cut to the Timberwolves, and you could see that everyone looked serious, with many holding their heads in frustration. They were also one of the first teams to scout Yang Hansen in China (along with the Blazers). On top of that, they picked a center at No. 17, and the Blazers had reportedly said they felt more comfortable taking Yang at 16. So naturally, many people are speculating that the Timberwolves were planning to draft Yang at 17.

  10. Credit to Richman for noting that, of course the “experts” are critical of the pick, since they all missed on him. Jokic comps are silly, but now that we’ve all had time to look hard at clips of this guy, it’s hard to imagine that someone with his skill package and fluidity, at 7’2” wouldn’t have been rated much higher had he been in the American collegiate system. Seems like even the experts are starting to back off of their critiques.

  11. The Timberwolves taking Yang at 17 stems directly from just reaction videos of them being disappointed when Yang was drafted. It very well could have just been they were confused by the pick like everyone else. There is a lot of thin arguments on tiktok. lol

  12. This pick is make or break for Cronin. He seemed very confident about it, so I'm leaning towards having high confidence this kid can play in the NBA and be effective. Now have heard that several teams were going to take him, including Minny at 17 who took a much rawer center right after Yang went off the board.

  13. I think there is a possibility of him being a shade of Arvidas, work out in the weight room for upper and lower body strength, with his skills git improvements, he could be a beast

  14. oh my wut a shy guy…and at least two times asked about who he has served as his role models court or off court, who he admires to learn from, he missed all these questions Sighs why?
He could be either too excited or too nervous.

  15. I wish we would've also signed the undrafted Mark Sears on a two-way, as our third-string back-up PG. Dude, can flatout shoot. I'd really like get off of Kris Murray too, along with Grant. Rob Will & Ayton are expiring contracts so it shouldn't that difficult to move them and if we don't we could probably even do a sign & trade. The only free-agent I like for us to get a guy like Larry Nance Jr. on our roster just a solid veteran PF that can also give us a different look at Center besides massively huge and a bit slower like orur two younger Centers. Also, should make it easier to trade and part with Ayton and/or Rob Williams since one less big would be available on the market.

  16. You want a high ceiling pick after the lottery, we got that. We also came away with an extra first and two 2nds. Thats a great draft imo

  17. I think that the Blazers told him in advance that he was their pick and that he should be there on draft night and walk across the stage and soak it all in. I am excited about him and am eager to watch his and the rest of the Blazers' development. They ALL need to keep improving!

  18. I didn't know much at first, but the more videos I watch of Yang Hansen, i'm convinced he will be a very good piece for us moving forward. His handle is decent and the post moves are very nice. Not too mention he has great vision at the top of the key and out of the post as well.

  19. The NBA draft isn't long enough for two days. Not huge on Walker coming back. DB is more interesting to keep around since they didn't draft a guard. FA class isn't too appealing this year.
