Eiserman, Ritchie, Nelson, George, Schaefer, Eklund, Aitcheson… went from the worst prospect pool to one of the best in short order
Remember when you guys drafted Tavares?
I also like the winger they picked up from MTL. Lets trade Pageau, Varly, Pelech etc. Tank and keep adding picks. It might hurt the next year or two but watching a young core come together is IMO the best thing in sports. There is a vision for the future now.
Really wanted hagens but holy shit, we did well
Kinda crazy to say, since we lost Dobson and missed out on Hagens, but this franchise is much better off than when we all woke up. Schaefer is a sure thing, but Eklund and Aitcheson also seem like very solid potential building blocks.
Taking a look at the prospect pool, I think we have a lot of space for them to grow. Since we have many solid prospects, we don’t need every single one to pan out, besides Schaefer, which decreases the pressure upon all of them. They can take their time and grow together.
One thing we cannot overlook, which is where I think teams like Buffalo failed, was the lack of a supporting veteran presence for younger guys. Older mentors are important for young people. They need to be shown what it takes to be great on a daily basis, how to build a culture, and they need protection from both hard minutes and aggressive opponents. In the front office, Matt Martin will be very helpful for this purpose and we should consider bringing players into the organization for that purpose (for the right price and a fairly short term). At this point, we should not focus on tearing down, but smartly rebuilding. That distinction is critical
