Brodie Chats with Ravensbergen

hey Josh congratulations on being selected 30th overall this year by the San Jose Sharks were you surprised it seems like you’re excited but were you also a little bit surprised on when you got picked and maybe what the future holds for you now
a little bit surprised by San Jose hadn’t talked to him like a ton so a little surprised about that but so excited to hear my name called
and I understand you I’ll just get to this right away you already have a friend in the organization or at least one person you know in the organization who is that i just get with Mac a little bit sorry i started doing that yeah so started to get to know him he’s a really good guy it’s a It’s a North Van North North Vancouver connection right you guys similar stuff
yeah and Wetsy Wet’s been Oh that’s right that’s right
uh a lot of the pundits talked about the upside for you in this draft they certainly saw you as a first round potential pick what do you see as is maybe where you’re at right now as at the goalie position and what does the goalie look to get better at over time and over the years uh for yourself
yeah yeah i feel like I didn’t improve a lot this season and I am a good in a good spot right now maybe the numbers didn’t show it as much but I do feel like I worked on things that will help me know when I get to pro and later down in the road so like right now I feel like my skating’s at a good point i just need to work on like my depth a little bit and my hand positioning and those are things I believe I could achieve this summer and I’m super excited to get going with the Sharks and start playing again next year
you played a lot of games in the last two seasons did that also help i mean obviously practice will help you too but game experience is what goalies love and and starts are what goalies love did the Did the amount and volume of of games you played help you in the last couple years i’d say it’s definitely an adjustment i’d say it does help a lot but you have to learn it it’s really good it does help you because you have to learn how to take care of your body both physically mentally you know be prepared for the next game and and played a lot of games this year up in PG and really thankful they had that much trust in me and I think that will really help my development down the road just you know being introduced to that so young absolutely hey what’s your impressions of obviously we’ll get we’ll circle back to Mlin in a second but you must pay a little attention to where the Sharks are at who’s on this team the direction things are going in right now what do you know about the Sharks and what excites you about this
it’s exciting they have so many young prospects in their pool so I think there’s a really bright future san Jose and you know guys are set up good yeah hey uh I got this secondhand but but I’ll believe it’s true mlin was very excited about just reacting to to you getting drafted by his team um
so you guys go way back or just recent years or what’s that connection like
uh just recently like I just been coming out to skates with Cool Todd so it’s nice that I’m able to go out and really good skates and starting to get to know him and his brother a little more and yeah it’s just fun being around him
and you’re a West Coast guy right so this coming to California thing is probably not as big a deal right
no this is my first Yeah West Coast kid but first first time here in California
yeah uh what else are you like what else do you like to do what else should fans know about you obviously everybody’s pretty excited to to to figure you out and get to see you firsthand and I know you’ll probably be out here for dev camp next week but what what else personally should we know i think I like I like being outside i like nature like when I was younger I used to do a lot of snowboarding and biking can’t really do that as anymore because of hockey but I enjoy I enjoy being outside and you know seeing sites and you know doing other activities such as basketball or ping pong just you know playing around it’s a lot of fun
all right multiple goalies going in the first round it’s a good moment for goalies huh i mean everybody’s talking about forwards and D and all that adding i I think a lot of Sharks fans were maybe caught off guard by going that route but obviously this team saw something in you what does it say about maybe the goalie pool in this year
yeah I think it’s really cool that teams are considering goalies in the first round again i feel like goalending is the most important position so you know one of our kind to be respected well Josh I really appreciate this can’t wait to meet you in person congratulations i know this has been a whirlwind try and remember and enjoy what you can cuz it goes fast
yeah thanks thanks appreciate a lot super excited

  1. Glad we picked goalie it’s been a problem for a while now. I like this kid Ravensbergen’s demeanor so far and hope he can continue to grow with Askerov and hope they can be a one two punch later on. Tommorow I think we should start off the 2nd round and draft defenseman Blake Fiddler to help our blue line and develop with Sam Dickinson

  2. Ravensbergen won't be in NHL till 2030 tbh, great spacing between him and Asky because if Asky is an elite goalie in 2030 then you have a back up for a couple seasons and then can see who wins a potential goalie battle. Great move by the scouting department and GMMG!
