[Basu] Noah Dobson says he wanted to sign an extension with the Islanders, but they couldn’t find common ground in contract talks and then focus turned to a trade. The initial desire though was to stay on Long Island: “That was always the goal at the start.”

  6. Kinda shocked Dobson got 9.5 million but Mtl has cap room and the cap is due to balloon. Glad we didn’t cave and now we got 2 young players who will cost us almost nothing.

  8. A bit of news that I saw on the Habs sub that didn’t come around here is that Dobson apparently came into conflict with Roy. Which… I guess validates the “Dobson is soft” folks since Roy seems to be a hard-ass given his era and how he treated Duclair. Still, they really couldn’t come to terms with Dobson? What was he asking for? If he offered us the same 9.5M he offered Montreal, that sucks not to take that, though we would have had to let go of an RFA. Maybe they wanted 9M to hit the cap exactly?

  9. It’s a business. 25 year old kid has a chance to make life changing money, tough to blame him for betting on himself. Both Dobber and the Isles made out ok here. Will applaud him when he returns

  11. In that case then, I’m very surprised we didn’t want to give him 9.5. I would’ve been fine with him at that number, and probably would’ve preferred that to 16 and 17. We did well with those picks at least, but if one of those two kids turns into Dobson, we’re lucky it even got there
