🔴LIVE 🔴Oakland Athletics VS New York Yankees/June 28/ Major League Baseball /MLB THE SHOW 25
just about ready to go and on the hill Max Freed Singing he’s been outstanding and should be fun to watch
well when you have a guy that can limit the opponent to very little run production you have a great chance to win a ball game when he takes the mount he’s just having an outstanding season so far you hope he can maintain it because if he can he’ll be in a nice conversation at the end of the year ready to go now and now the shorts stop Jacob Wilson and there’s a strike on the outside corner and we are underway line drive caught and time now to check out the A’s lineup singi this righty heavy lineup must be licking their chops with a lefty on the mound
well to me Boog it shows the manager trying to set these players up to have a big game facing an opposite handed pitcher you only get a fraction of a second longer to see the ball and decide to swing but that can be the difference between a line drive and a swinging strike
let’s go Max brent Rooker batting with one down takes a strike
was a good pitch there really had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge and that’s one of those if you swing at it he had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout got him two away now i mean there aren’t many curve balls in the sport today that break like that thing does huge movement it’s so difficult to get on the same plane and even think about squaring it up let alone get a piece and hope he throws something else to keep the atbat alive hit pretty well in the air out to center gisham is there makes the catch and that is that we’ll go to the bottom of the first 0 back at Yankee Stadium and towing the slab here Jeffrey Springs and Singy we were talking earlier about how he’s doing a great job navigating through tough spots well that whip is just below the league average and that’s a good thing in this case not allowing too many base runners so on most days he’s going to go out there and compete and put his team in a position to win and I expect to see that from him in this one today here’s the center fielder Trent Gisham swings over the top of that one gisham first round pick of the Brewers in 2015 just missed and there’s a ball that’s ball three swing and a miss and the count is filled up got him looking that’s a strike out here comes Aaron Judge what a season it’s been for him he has supplied a lot of power and that average and it’s fouled away judge working on a massive campaign right now putting up some big home run numbers well we’ve seen him flex some impressive power this season and there’s still a lot of time to go if he can keep up this pace he’s on we could be in for something really special and he chases a high fast there strike three and that’s two in a row just overmatched on that fast ball right there and it wasn’t like he was set up for it by something off speed earlier in the at bat just came right after it with three straight and he had no answer for it ben Rice now in the box comes up empty with a swing there and a pitch a swing and a miss as he chases way out of the zone swing and a miss struck him out and he strikes out the side in the first impeccable command in that one three batters three strikeouts that’s electric stuff out there on the mound back for more from the Bronx here’s the third baseman Max max Freed will go to work center field gisham settles under it carous it and there’s one away batting fifth second base
here’s Luis Orias he’s been a great free agent sign urias in his sixth season 27 years old he joined the team as a free agent and the first pitch misses for ball one we talked so much about how starting pitchers prepare for their starts i talked with Max Freed and one of the things he told me back in 19 he and Lucas Gileo started using MLB The Show to go over scouting reports and another ball max said he’s not sure who actually started it first but it was 2019 and he and Gilito who were teammates together in high school in Los Angeles they had the idea to become more familiar with the opposing lineup using MLB to show that’s off the inside corner counts full three and two one out base is empty outside and that is ball four and that’s how they get their first base runner of the game man that’s a tough one to take on the full count but I guess he saw it really well it’s a really nice plate appearance gio Shell to the plate first pitch doesn’t find the zone and that one fouled off uas leads off first with one away i wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball try to go again with the fast ball slightly elevated he just having a hard time catching up maximus next offering is downstairs and a swing and a miss down on strikes and there’s two away austin wins up next for the A’s just missed come on Maximus nope two gone but the go-ahead run is at first here in the top of the second fast ball for a strike at 95 and a big swing and a miss still two and two after the foul ball second inning here no score swinging a miss that one in the dirt throw to first that completes the strikeout inning over the A’s strand one we’ll go to the bottom of the second no score back in the Bronx now here’s John Carlos Stanton john Carlos Stanton let’s go springs back to work and that one upstairs
pretty smart not to serve something up for him right there he’s really good at hitting the first pitch throughout history the fast ball down has been the most successful pitch guys can handle a little bit better these days but they of course still prefer something belt high and a foul ball next offering upstairs
way to lay off that fast ball up right there you’re looking for something you see well that you can handle but you also have to keep the discipline so that you’re not popping up pitches that are just a little too high
make it four strikeouts in a row just cruising along jazz Chisum Jr now
Jun Swing and a ball lifted in the air shallow left field wilson hauls it in for the out and there’s two down
batting six leftielder Jason Dominguez
and stepping in for the Yankees Jason Dominguez singing he’s never finished the season with more stolen bases in his entire career right through there for a strike that’s excellent location on the fast ball right there early in this game if he can do that all game it should be a good outing for him and that one upstairs ball one york bats in there and the count one and two that one way inside straighten him up a little bit two outs base is empty let’s go battling here as he fouls it away and that’s a strike out ed Drummond says he won around so the Yanks go in order we’ll move to the third with no score and we’re back now it’s going to be Max Schum come on Yankees and ball one man that pitch was dotted so much talent on display when this guy’s out there on the hill line to right and that’ll be a base hit so a runner aboard to start the inning love how he let that ball travel trusted his hands nice job of going the other way so digging in Denzel Clark good defender he’s been inconsistent offensively just missed schuman aboard here at first with nobody out free throws to first oh and they got him leaning he’s out so much for their first hit right there good move and he had him leaning all the way swang and a miss i got one ball one strike swang and a ground ball on the run throw to first safe at first as they can’t make the play
boo that’s staying within his game right there i mean this speedster gets the infield single and now he’s on base to possibly do some damage i love seeing what guys like this can do to disrupt the game once they get in a position to do so
wilson stands in now looks at that one inside man at first one away let’s turn out in front rip foul the one-1 on the ground boots it still fires to first and they get the out good recovery wasn’t easy following the misplay rightielder Brent Rooker so the go-ahead run in scoring position and now the right fielder Brent Rooker that one fouled off and a foul ball runner at second two down strike him out that misses the zone and it’s one and two that one just misses
really good take especially with two strikes and that one is in the dirt three and two now
he should get a pretty good pitch to hit here with the three-hole hitter coming up if he’s walked and ball four two aboard that’s a tough one to swallow right there if you’re on the bound you’re ahead in the count 02 and you just couldn’t find a way to put him away that’s going to be frustrating if that one comes back to bite him
and now Nick Curts he’s 0 for one first pitch and he just misses top of the third no score swings and pulls a foul to the right side fights that one away still one and two and a swing in the miss make it four strikeouts for him on the bump today sometimes he wears the emotion on the sleeve but that’s okay as long as he’s getting results and right there thrilled with the punch out to get out of a jam back here in New York set for the bottom of the third and stepping in for the Yankees anthony Vulpi vulpi that one finds the zone 0 and one and that’s in there at the knees for a strike
quickly down 02 in the count i think you got to choke up a little bit spread out the feet you don’t know what the velocity or the location of this next pitch is going to be spoils the two strike pitch and he’ll see another the shorts stop takes a ball tough to take a two strike change up that just missed i think it froze him and that one almost got him swing and a miss and he got him so he picks up his six strike out of the ball game he came out of his mechanics there typically likes to shoot the ball the other way but that time a little anxious austin Wells getting ready to hit swings and misses and that’s strike one ball one there swinging a miss one and two
going to really need to hang in there with that front side against this left-handed breaking ball not close with that one and that’s ball two keeps the atbat going with a foul ball into center no trouble here puts it away for the out and there’s two away batting ninth second base
up to the plate steps DJ Lameu let’s go fast for a strike now the key to his success is getting ahead early in the count he cannot afford to go deep in the counts doesn’t have a ton of swing and miss stuff so he’s going to have to work efficiently
and that’s downstairs and that’s ball one just missed fouls one off two and two and that one is inside swanging a ball drilled center field clark should have this one makes the play and it’s out number three nine straight retired here to start the game no score here at New Yankee Stadium in the Bronx john Shambi with Chris Singleton and set to lead off the fourth Maxy
let’s go Yankees you can do it first pitch misses
you know these A’s just lacking discipline at the plate in this ball game so many of their outs have come from weak contact on pitches they’re chasing outside of the strike zone you can’t do much of anything with those locations and that’s been true again today dives but it falls and now it looks like extra bases runner holds it second so another base hit could get us the first run of the game
well I’m not saying that play was easy but it was harder than it needed to be thanks to the bad jump those small moments can be costly go ahead run on base luis Urias up next for the A’s he swings and misses at the first pitch 0 and one and as a pitcher when the hitters are swinging at everything you feel no need to challenge inside the zone you just keep working the corners and expanding that strike zone and beyond and they just keep eating right out of your hand
man at second fought off foul fourth inning underway no score next offering upstairs
i don’t like to say he wasted a pitch i think that was a purpose pitch change the eye level have him look up now go back exactly where you want to go hacks and misses it’s a strikeout usually when you see several pitches you’re going to get at least one that you might be able to do something with but they didn’t exactly challenge him in any way right there and really they just used his aggressiveness against him i don’t think he even got a pitch in the zone
no that’s a good point Singi he goes down on strikes but not a single pitch was actually in the strike zone here’s Gioella yeah that’s fouled off york at a highf fly ball well struck judge going back on it pulls it in on the warning track runner tags at second and he’s up to third safely with two gone now batting catcher Austin wins austin wins up next for the A’s he’s been such a good hitter with runners in scoring position some guys just take it to another level for him right now at the plate it’s like everyone else is in slow motion and he’s in full speed bounding ball here rolls foul next pitch is outside curve in the dirt muny at third with two away swinging a foul out of play really great change of speeds he goes off the off speed to the fast ball and the hitter doesn’t know what’s coming next his confidence level is so high really nice job of coming through in a big spot nice job of driving that pitch the other way on a line you know hitters they take so many reps in the cages working on going to the opposite field and it doesn’t always translate into the game but right there it did and he did it perfectly
so up next Max Schuman clips the outside corner it’s 0 and one he’s pitching well but not throwing a ton of first pitch strikes usually doesn’t work out for success but you can never predict baseball freed out of the stretch fires and that’s in there for a strike and quickly nothing at two
and a bat like this is almost over as it begins in this situation you have no idea what the next pitch is going to be you just got to hope that you can make contact hit on the ground to short vulpi
out number three back in New York bottom four and now the center fielder Trent Gisham
taken high in the draft he’s had that top prospect label over him since he put on a professional uniform but at some point that starts to go away and you’ve got to produce at the big league level swings through that you know these Yankees just haven’t produced as many competitive at bats as I’d like to see in this one strikeouts are a little easier to stomach in baseball today but even by those standards they’re going down way too often and I think they’re having a hard time getting any momentum going as a result and Shella that takes care of Gisham gi’s doing a nice job of keeping the ball out of the air lets the defense work behind him with another ground ball good execution well in terms of hitting rocket home runs Judge is near the top of that list only John Carlos Stanton has hit more with greater exit velocity than Judge look out though show is quickly climbing those charts and that one fouled off inside two and two and down on strikes and he’s up to seven strikeouts
just absolutely rolling on the mound he’s looking very much on his game in the early parts of this one boo fully on the attack with these hitters that’s seven strikeouts already so he’s got a good pace going no doubt rice batting for the second time and that’s strike one misses outside and the count is one and one
the guy at the plate could recognize Slider out of the hand didn’t stay in the tunnel very long in terms of depth and perception he knew right away it was an off speed pitch and a one-two and it’s fouled off they’ll do it again the Yankees hitless so far in the game outside low and it’s two and two and a slider misses down and away foul ball and it remains a full count two down nobody on swing and a foul ball at the plate they’ll do it again
oh he’s desperately looking for that swing and miss he’s going to have to just change speeds a little bit try to move it around create just a little bit of illusion at the end ca strikes him out for the second time today one two three go the Yankees they still trail one- nothing all set for the start of the inning now Denzel Clark
we talk about guys with good speed and definitely he has it but pushing the offense aside for just a second Chris it’s the defensive side that I think the speed factors in the most and he gets that fast ball by him upstairs well he gets to balls that get by most people at that position just really impressive because there’s certain times the ball comes off the bat automatically that team and hit it thinks that they’ve got a base hit or they may have extra bases and he just takes it away got him swinging and that’s six Ks for him in this one and Chris that’s a way to neutralize his speed by keeping him off base and the defense breathes a sigh of relief because he puts pressure on everyone if he can put the ball in play but that’s how you do it keep him off balance get him out of there and deal with the next guy so the lineup flips over jacob Wilson will hit next and first offering is fouled off for you growing up in New York City I mean you’re a big sports fan tell me about your experience with the Yankees growing up i really went to Sha Stadium more than I did to Yankee Stadium i grew up a Phillies fan there was one game though that I went to as a kid i sat in the upper deck it was a game that Bo Jackson hit three homers in his first three plate appearances and then hurt a shoulder diving for Dion Sanders inside the park home run that’s probably the most memorable game that I ever attended as a fan at Old Yankee Stadium that pitch just misses the inside corner two balls two strikes and there’s a rocket into the outfield around first and hustling for second the throw in and he’ll reach second with one away
now batting right that ball was absolutely ripped 111 off the bat and I’m pretty sure it started to whistle after it left the bat
i think I heard that too Boo and these are the moments we appreciate when we can look at Statcast and just see exactly what the data is always so much fun to see what numbers pop up
rooker stands in here leaves that one off the inside hitter’s got some good opposite field power what I like about something being hit to the right side into the outfield is that the base runner at second has a very good read and can determine whether or not he can score on that base hit that’s outside and it’s two and one a’s leading by a run next pitch off the play now three and one and ball four to a board oh you know this guy wants to swing it but he’s showing some good patience in this one it’s the second time he’s taken ball four
and a dangerous hitter coming to the plate nick Curts now at the plate four for two in this one swings through that one for strike one well a come and get me fast ball right there he didn’t look ready for the velocity i think it’d be a mistake to throw him anything off speed right here that’s in there and it’s 0 and two
don’t play situation here he’s been working up in the zone typically you look for guys to get that ground ball see if he adjusts on this next pitch now 02 from Free gets a piece and stays alive well all eyes on the double play ball in this spot no better way to get out of this inning two on one out
that one got close now one and two oh he might have to look for a different putaway pitch right here 22 he’s already seen the curveball couple of times in this at bat so might have it timed up and ready for it that one missed
that’s a really good take maxy in the on deck circle for the A’s that’s out to center field gisham settles under it hauls it in and there’s two away now batting third base Max max Muny digs in now one for two and a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike movement in the Yankees pen clark Schmidt the hardthrowing righty is up and loosening hamilton also throwing two on two outs that’s a strike across the top of the zone well this is a higher leverage spot and I love the way that he’s turned things around he’s got two outs now ahead in this count and he can pretty much dictate what’s going to happen next in terms of the pitch sequence this one in the air rice moving under this one and that’s the third out a strand a couple but they lead it one to nothing back now in the Bronx ready to go for the last half of the in and now the DH John Carlos Stanton Springs back to work check swing called strike and that is strike one in the air right field rooker sizes this one up makes the grab and there’s one down
now batting third base jazz Chisum Jr stepping in now for the Yankees 0 for one with a fly out
yankees chisum in his fifth season 27 years old and they went out and made a trade for him last season fast ball for a strike 0 and one it’s just been an impressive outing so far continues to pound the zone pitch after pitch and he’s been able to stay down that’s what’s been key that missed by a lot and it’s one and one and the sweeper misses the Athletics up by a run last half of inning number five swing and he breaks his bat muny whips it across two gone good late life on that inside fast ball ran in on the hands and got that weak contact little slow grounder to get the out
and up next for New York Jason Dominguez
he was a strikeout victim his first time and that’s in for a strike and it’s 0 and one
oh he’s got to be pretty proud of this outing so far sometimes guys cower coming into a ballpark like this but he has attacked hitters pitching on the road like this is very impressive this has been a treat to watch come on York swang and a miss struck him out and it’s a three up three down inning yanks held in check they’re down one- nothing clark Schmidt will take over here
pretty tight game so they’re looking for quality pitches out of him right here got to do his best to keep the score right where it is well one-run game digging in luis Urias how about this one Boo in 2023 Aras hit grand slams for Boston in back-to back plate appearances they happened on different days but he still became the first Red Sox player to do it since Jimmy Fox in 1940 and a foul ball he stays alive that’s outside and the count one and two well that’s kind of what you expect in an 02 count excellent job of the hitter to have the plate disciplined to lay off of that pitch knocks that one away and we’ll do it again swings and misses it’s a strike out couldn’t hit the fast ball at the knees now here’s Gio Orchello
the first base Gio and that one way outside and that’s ball one activity in the bullpen for the Yankees jonathan Loisa getting loose out there that one found hard the other way saying four homers in 22 games at Old Yankee Stadium what do you remember well I remember my rookie year hitting two in one game and you know before that game in the clubhouse there was a gentleman there who owned a suit company there in downtown Manhattan and he said to me “Hey kid you hit a home run in the game tonight come over to the store tomorrow and I’ll give you a free suit.” And now two and two
so I went into the game I happened to hit two when I walked into the store the next day and he looked at me he said “You’re trying to put me out of business aren’t you?” And that was a great great experience that I had as a rookie playing against the Yankees playing in New York
jazz tosses the first urella is out
batt Austin wins two outs base is empty austin wins up next for the A’s
come on New York
so did Super Joe give you two suits super Joe hooked me up with two suits not even close there ball one right through there for a strike the one-1 is fouled off cuts and misses it’s a strike out so they make short work of him there 789 two up in the home half of the inning it’s the A’s one and the Yankees nothing back for more from the Bronx well we go bottom six now now it’s the shortstop anthony Vulpi yeah there’s the strike when a guy’s throwing a lot of first pitch strikes as a hitter you got to be ready to hit now that’s not going to help you get deep into his pitch count and into the bullpen but you got to take what he’s offering that day swings through that one for strike two and it really looks like these hitters have been in between with their timing today good fast ball excellent slider but they’ve not been able to commit to one velocity and stay there the shorts stop takes a ball spoils that one and it remains two and two
pretty impressive we haven’t seen that pitch from him much but he’s got a really good feel when he throws it and a swing and a miss so he cracks double digits with his 10th strikeout not too often you’re going to see a sub 90 mph fast ball get by a hitter for the strikeout especially when it’s in a very hitable location like that makes me think he was either looking for something else completely or he tried to do way too much that swing
austin Wells stepping in now for the Yankees and that is out of play and that misses and it’s a ball and a strike there’s the strike the Yanks still looking for their first hit in this one pitch misses and the count’s full line drive and foul ball look out that ball smoked man I am so relieved that they have this netting down the line just ensure safety for the fans last thing as a player you want to look up and see a fan get hit in danger of losing the perfect game here this one popped up right side ursella under this one and there’s two away
good hard fast ball up in the zone right there they look really good coming in but so hard to get on top of as a hitter
here’s DJ Lameu 0 for one with a fly out to center let’s go Yankees foul ball there two down nobody on here in the bottom of the six and that one is downstairs one and one the one-1 is fouled off he’s mixing his pitches really well late on that fast ball after seeing the change up see if he can elevate one i think if he does he’ll get the swing and miss on a line and that’s a base hit and that ends the perfect game bid and the tying runs at second base with a double well there goes the chance for a perfect game put a really nice balanced swing on it and when you can rope one into the gap like that you’re thinking extra bases from the first couple of steps out of the box and he’ll feel real good about that one now a pretty big at bat coming up with a chance to even this ball game up now here’s Trent Gisham hot shot to first base and he snags it to end the inning one left for the Yankees they trail here one- nothing we go to the top of the seventh here’s the left fielder Max Schuman yanks there’s the strike ripped on the ground to second over to first one up one down up next for the A’s center fielder Denzel Clark
denzel Clark up next for the A’s
struck out on just three pitches last time outside low one and0 base is empty one away here in the top half of inning number seven next pitch inside and it’s 2 and 0 and another ball next pitch in for a strike three and one that’s a walk went with the cutter again but couldn’t find his own
pretty easy walk right there last pitch wasn’t even much to think about
one gone runner at first here’s the shorts stop at the play jacob Wilson one for three and there’s the strike clark at first one gone ground ball to the right side and it stays fair rounds third headed for the plate he’s safe and they lead by two
couple of hits in a row for him here really good swing right there he got a pitch that he knew he could handle allowed himself to stay back just a tad bit longer and he hit the ball on the screws so digging in Brent Rooker couple of walks and a strikeout swinging a foul straight back the A’s looking to add another yankees misses the zone for a ball that was the sweeper man at second right through there for a strike swinging a ground ball up the middle now the throw to first on the run and very nicely done for the out now that is number 16 next is the designated hitter Nick Curts i’m curious how he decides to attack on the mound this guy at the plate has been great hitting under pressure this year and the first pitch misses for ball one and that one hammered and it’s off the wall the run scores from third and they take a threerun lead and he’s there with a double
big at bat to pad their lead up to three textbook bat control right there got a pitch on the outside saw it deep into the zone and just barreled it up went the other way for the knock manager out of the dugout and he’s going to make a change clark Schmidt out of the game it’s a three-run game and we’ll be back to tell you about the new arm in a minute new pitcher for the Yankees Ian Hamilton and this could be a pretty critical point in this game they’re hoping he’s the guy to keep him within striking distance maxy the next to hit that’s a strike and he couldn’t hold back he’s rung up on strikes so it’s two runs on two hits no errors and a runner left midway in inning number seven and it’s time to stretch it’s the A’s three and the Yankees nothing now
we’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh tj McFarland
this softball has been really good against left-handed hitters now it’s Aaron Judge up to the plate who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts and charge the Yankees looking to rally
you know these Yankees from what we’ve seen I think it’s fair to wonder if they’ve been too patient at the plate they found themselves behind in the count quite a bit they’re trying to be patient but it’s mostly resulting in outs not base runners and you could argue it’s making things more difficult at the plate
now batting first Ben and here’s the first baseman Ben Rice and that drops in for a strike
pitching has been pretty dominant in this one but you got to be careful not working with too big a lead they could get right back in this ball game if you’re not careful one down base is empty
tapped at the plate but it’s a foul ball stays alive the A’s leading by three here in the bottom of the seventh fouled off and they’ll do it again
that wasn’t an easy pitch to hit it’s much easier to do damage against mistakes but that’s not what that pitch was
that misses it’s a ball in two strikes that one missing inside and it remains two and two eighth pitch of the at coming up
well he’s having a tough time getting a pitch by him as a hitter you feel pretty confident that you’re seeing different pitches still able to make some type of contact nice grab throw to first and they get the out cadillac reflexes on that one makes the dive has to get up clean exchange to throw a strike across the diamond and what a tremendous play and here is John Carlos Stanton there’s the strike two outs that one close ruled a ball and now it’s even one and one
good spot there but didn’t get the strike at the knees and doesn’t seem too convinced by the call out there on the mound as he tries to get a better sense of the umpire strike zone
come on Yankees let’s go oh he doesn’t get the call two and one one strike that’s hard hit in the line and the inning is over down in order go the Yankees they trail it here 3 nothing back to the Bronx we’re in the top of the eighth and here is Luis Urias swing and a hard hit grounder to third and that’s a fair ball
around first heading for two throws to second not in time that’s a leadoff double went up there looking to be aggressive and got something he could handle got the top of the ball a little bit but not much that was hit pretty hard through the infield so I think he’ll be happy with that swing definitely generated some good bat speed runner in scoring position no outs next up for the A’s Gio Urchella 0 for three in this one
first pitch just misses one no strike and that one is in for a strike movement in the Yankees pen mark Lighter Jr up and throwing loisa a hard throwing right-hander up as well urias stands at second with no outs and that is downstairs now two balls in a strike come on and that one is lifted in the air judge has it sized up he’s there he’s got it runner tags at second and it comes in too late he’s up to third on the fly out with one away now batting catcher Austin wins and here’s the catcher austin wins fly ball to the outfield for a sack fly soft ground ball to the right side find a hole he can attack this a few ways but the one thing he can’t do is strike out and that misses and it’s one and0 and another ball pretty easy to give up on that pitch right there started on the edge of the plate with the spin you know it’s going to finish well off the plate swing and a miss looked off balance that time so hard to touch being at the top of the zone 99 98 even 97 as pitchers do such a good job of teasing that part of the zone just elevating a little bit it looks good because you see it for a good while as a hitter looks juicy and by the time you swing it’s almost in the catcher’s mid fights it off if he’ll see another one away with a runner at third and we’re in the top of the eighth on the ground to the left and it goes just foul fouled off again and it remains three and two in the air right side judge makes the grab runner tags for home that’s a sacrifice fly as he comes across and it’s four nothing they had a chance to add to their lead right there and they did with the sack fly nice job of getting it done really good execution with that at bat
next to hit Max Schuman at 96 that pitch is in for a strike
he didn’t want to give up that run but he did got the fly ball sack fly out now it’s time to attack these other guys get your team back in the dugout and that’s downstairs and outside
one ball one strike and there’s a foul ball up the middle oh he gloves it over to first it’s there and that’s a great play that was a great job of doing the math he had the perfect angle diving stop completes the play and that ends the inning back now new pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth shawn Nukem and he’s got a nice lead to work with so he should come in throwing strikes attacking these hitters and now it’s going to be Jazz Chisum Jr it’s interesting he plays kind of a a power spot defensively but runs pretty well so when you’re looking at that position you’re not expecting someone that has maybe above average speed but he does line drive base hit man aboard on the leadoff single really stayed true on that swing it wasn’t an easy pitch lefty on lefty pitch was a little down a little bit away but he committed to it and his shoulder stayed square to the plate didn’t try to pull off that ball at all and that’s why it jumped off the bat next to hit Jason Dominguez his home and away splits there new York and I think that skill set really upgrades the position because when you have that kind of speed it makes the whole team that much better next offering is in for a strike what about him playing another position on defense one that would require a little more range
absolutely and I think if push came to shove where they had to make a a move during a game it’d surprise a lot of people you might even be able to put him in center field that misses two balls two strikes waves at the bender for the strike out well they’ve had a great plan of attack for him tonight i mean finding all the holes in his swing and his approach just frustrating for him up there you strike out a guy three times in a game I think that guy’s got to go back and really study some video with his hitting coach figure out how they’re beating him make this adjustment really quick cuz Word will get around the league in a hurry vulpi in the box here lets that one go for a ball let’s go Yankees struggled a little bit in this one couple of strikeouts earlier but doing a much better job in this at bat to get ahead and find a good hitter’s count at two and 0 yankees squirts away a little bit yankees and ball four two aboard you know Boo it’s been said these guys are savages in the box you can see it right there with such tight plate discipline
austin Wells stepping in now for the Yankees yankees ground ball could be two the throw to second double play they can’t seem to break through inning over one hit one left through eight full it’s the Athletics four and the Yankees nothing we’re back it’s the top of the ninth and there’s a new pitcher on the mound jonathan Loisa coming on to face a righty here and he’s been fantastic against him this year his numbers in those matchups are very good jonathan Denzel Clark getting ready to hit
this is a guy who’s in a lineup first and foremost because of what he contributes defensively Chris and when you talk about preventing runs from being scored this guy is a big contributor and that one in there at the knees for a strike going on
i was always told it’s hard to take you off the field when you play really good defense especially at a premier position and that’s what he does that’s in there 0 and two now
the hitting’s going to come around he’s going to figure it out but right now his big asset is the way he plays the game on defense lisa fires pitch misses going to count one and two hey you got this good eye in that spot well I I think he’s trying to get a feel for where that one missed i mean it could have gone either way but he looked a little shocked for a second there and that just misses
he’s really tightening up his hitting zone with two strikes here i love it that’s a good at bat right there he was down early in that plate appearance works the walk
second walk of the game for him and he’s been really patient at the play a game plan that he’s sticking to he’s just not going outside of what he’s looking for up there wilson the next to hit takes outside clark on at first nobody out he swings and fouls one off the 1-1 ground ball right side could be two whips it to first now one gone in the ninth now batting right fielder Brent Rooker next up for the A’s Brent Rooker a former first round pick and he’s really turned into a nice everyday player and misses inside swinging a foul pushed off to the right that one drifts inside
hoo he never moved cuz he never had time to but that kind of velocity you’d prefer that pitcher work away york man at second that’s one absolutely belted and that’s going to bang against the wall the run comes in from second it’s 5 nothing everything came together for him put a pretty good swing on that one as he drove it out to deep left didn’t quite have the right combination of launch angle and exit velocity to get it over the fence but you’re never going to be disappointed with extra bases so now the DH spot Nick Curts RBI knock for him last time now a chance to drive in another run whacked out to center field that’s well struck that’s back there makes the catch on the edge of the track rounder tags at second and he moves up to third now two away now batting third base Maxy so a man aboard and the batter now Maxy ball one no strikes two outs and one in scoring position here’s a rip to short but he’s there for the third out but a run will score in the inning on this RBI double and the lead is now 5 nothing back now as they hand the ball to a fresh arm to start the bottom of the ninth Tyler Ferguson he last pitched two days ago number 44 DJ Lame Hugh to start things off second baseman DJ Lameu swaging a popup foul out of play off to the right side that’ll find the stands here’s a swing and a drive left field and he knew it and they cut into the lead it’s 5-1 lightning fast hands to be able to hit that velocity fast ball on the inside part of the plate in my experience when you’re looking out over the plate allowing the ball to travel it’s pure reaction to hit a pitch in that location that’s a tremendous swing
now it’s Trent Gisham to the plate right down to shoot it’s 0 and one always exciting to see a leadoff home run in an inning kind of gets the offense fired up and you start to expect a big inning swing and a pop off in foul ground he makes the grab and there’s one down now batting right fielder Aaron Judge
he’s two outs away aaron Judge at the plate 0 for three with two strikeouts and a ground out outside with a breaking ball just missed
back to back breaking pitches away you get the feeling as a hitter that the pitcher is afraid of you that he doesn’t want to challenge you so I think the confidence level is raised right here
one down base is empty that pitch in for a strike and a count two and one
well I think that pitch surprised all of us right down the middle doesn’t get a swing not very often you see a hitter lay off a cookie like that three and two the pitch is outside and ball four
his ability to draw walks has been something that’s been part of his career since day one
and now the first baseman Ben Rice first pitch doesn’t find the zone judge the base runner at first with one out come on New York swing and a base hit and they’ll have runners at the corners after a one out single let’s go
now batting hitter
manager out of the dugout now and he will make a move to dip into the A’s bullpen tyler Ferguson done for the night and a line not closed on him yet as he’s responsible for the runners on base back with a new pitcher after this mason Miller comes on trying to close it out and I can’t imagine any save is an easy one you’re holding a small lead on the scoreboard and you know those hitters are going to give you the best at bats they can so it’s always high stress let’s see what he’s got here to try and close it out
here in the bottom of the ninth one out john Carlos Stanton stepping in now for the Yankees that’s in for a strike on the outside corner 0 and one just missed Miller he’s kind of a prototypical bullpen arm in today’s game electric stuff that results in a ton of strikeouts in a tough spot like this that is a big time benefit comes up empty that’s strike two no as a hitter when a guy like this comes into the game you feel like he’s standing on top of you and it’s just attack mode coming right at you now this ball is well hit this one’s got a chance onto the track and he makes the catch runner tags from third he’ll score in the sack fly it’s 52 so many times that one gets out of here and into the seats but he’ll take the sack fly good job to get that run in from third so they’re down to their final out jazz Chisum Jr stepping in now for the Yankees good pitch right there anytime you can get one by a bat of this caliber especially with runners on it’s got to give you some confidence out there on the mound that you can win this battle they’re down to their final strike well so many hardth throwing relievers in the game these days you would think that hitters have made the adjustment but I don’t know if you ever get used to it just pumping gas out of the bullpen so hard to play catchup
two runs across in the inning we’re in the last half of the ninth inning that one hammered center field reaching back towards the wall and that one is off the wall rice around third one run is in coming home the relay safe at home is two score on the inside the park homer well he just about hit it out of here but once it took that carum off the wall like that I mean he really turned on the afterburners and I’ll tell you as an outfielder this is pretty much your worst nightmare but playing the ball off the wall like that can be really tough sometimes definitely an exciting play and next for New York Jason Dominguez 0 for three with three strikeouts first pitch and he just misses
now Boo this is a real tough place for visiting teams to come in and close out ball games for a win a onerun lead there and the home team trying to pull it out lifted to left and this should do it
are you kidding me and that’ll do it the A’s hold on to win a tight one as this one ends as a one-run ball game well you take a tie ball game into the ninth on the road you know that you’ve got some work to do you got to score but then you’ve also got to get three outs in the bottom half of that inning they did just that today very well played ball game get this win on the road everybody’s happy with the W
