This is what you’ll be talking about the offense once again but this time in a positive fashion Um the offense has been really rough especially at home Today I’m going to pull up the box score here Today they total or they tally 14 hits but I think they had 12 going into that ninth inning or bottom of the eighth when Rojos was pitching I think they only got one hit off Miguel Rojos who was just pitching for you know for fun So the Royals were able to get some solid solid run production out of the lineup today The top four really did the heavy hit uh heavy lifting 11 hits from that group Uh uh combined they scored eight of the nine runs out of the top four in the order Um this was just once again what we’ve been what we saw a lot last season was just the top of the order doing a lot of the heavy lifting And this year you know you add a Mel Garcia into that fold where he’s a you know league average hitter and he’s actually a much better than league average hitter you add Jonathan India who has his moments um as a as a solid hitter but uh it is uh it’s definitely it’s definitely a uh a good sign of things to come with the way the offense played Obviously the bottom half had a really rough game Jack Kagleon hat-tick did not hit well today at all Um he’s down to 171 Um not a good sign there He did not have very many competitive ABS today Um I wouldn’t be surprised if he got the day off tomorrow I didn’t see who the starting pitchers are going to be in tomorrow’s game I’m going to pull that up right now But I wouldn’t be surprised if Jack Kaggleon just got the day off tomorrow Kind of like they gave Salvi It doesn’t look like the Dodgers have anybody listed for tomorrow um as a starter Chris Bubich will go for the Royals which is a great thing But uh I’m pulling up roster resource here just to see because I’m curious who the Dodgers counter with If it’s a lefty or righty or maybe they go bullpen game but they kind of went bullpen game today Uh Fangrass has them going with Justin Releski a left-handed pitcher So I wouldn’t be surprised if Jack Kaggleó does not play tomorrow because he really struggled today But uh I went through the advanced numbers today or I don’t even want to call them advanced numbers It’s just baseball so anybody has access to him But the thing that the Royals did today that they have done pretty much all season is they hit off speed stuff well And I tweeted out the Royals had a ton of extra base hits today I think they had seven in total Um none of them were on pitches of more than 90 miles per hour We said it earlier in the week We’ve said it on the last couple of shows The Royals truly have an issue in hitting velocity and they didn’t hit show that well when he was throwing with some VO when he was throwing the fast ball They didn’t hit fast balls well today either Um they had some singles that got through I mean Bobby’s double was a um that double he had I can’t remember which inning that was in Maybe it was the fourth but he had a double off Kasparius that was not really a double Um but the offense struggled once more with hitting fast balls a little bit concerning but I think that at some point they’re going to figure it out At least I hope so But uh this was the offense at its truest you know best form The top four did their line did their job And then honestly the bottom half the lineup was fairly unspectacular Uh Kaggs Ofer Nick Loftton continues to scuffle Those guys are both under the Mendoza line Drew Waters also had a hit and then Kylo Obell had a hit as well He’s put together back-to-back games with a hit So that’s good to see for the Royals offense is getting at least something out of the bottom four in the lineup But I continue to think that this lineup needs a couple extra bats at least somebody to protect Jack Kaggleon in that six hole because I think that’s probably where he bats the rest of the season Um but he just got picked apart today Um he looks like he’s pulling off on everything His approach really looks like he’s just trying to yank the ball down the line And when he does hit the ball square I mean when he’s fouled pitches off he has been so far out in front of it yanking it into the tarp on the right on the first base side I mean I really get concerned that his approach is kind of screwy right now because he’s trying so hard He’s trying to hit himself out of his slump which does kind of worry me a little bit but not to the extent where I’m like send him down to AAA Um I have a lot more of a patient leash with Jack Kagleon especially considering they already called him up There’s no need to send him down and give him bad thoughts Um I can’t remember who said it on Twitter It might have been Alex Gold but you know talking about the he’s got he was going to have a bunch of bad habits if he just continued to crush AAA pitching And it’s better you kind of work out the kinks at the major league level and see what you have than have him continue to mash and in and triple AAA and not have him up So um I am concerned a little bit with his approach to the plate but I think he’ll be just fine Um I don’t think that there’s any one person to blame for his struggles here recently Um but it is obviously something that is concerning and like I said I think tomorrow he will not be in the lineup I think he gets the day off struggling and you don’t want to throw him up against a lefty Maybe he pinch hits or something but I’d be very shocked if he is in the lineup tomorrow heading into the series finale But honestly the other thing they did they did well today they hit the ball with some carry I mean they got balls in the outfield Um something they haven’t really done all year Um even Bobby’s double which was you know a a bad effort play by Tay Oscar Hernandez Um that was I mean fine whatever But I think they’ll be just fine in terms of the offensive output This was probably an extreme end of the spectrum for them in terms of run production I think that you know they got some luck with some balls in play Um but I think this is kind of what you like at the best if this offense is working at its best this is what it looks like It’s the top four top five in the lineup hitting their abilities the bottom three or four kind of just murking around down there bunning them over getting some you know floaty hits like putting the ball in places that it needs to be And the offense getting a lot from the top five because that’s exactly what we saw all year from the Royals with Bobby Vinnie and Salvi Now it’s Bobby Vinnie and Michaelel and you’re kind of flipping a coin on what version of Jonathan India and Salvador Perez you’re going to get on a day-to-day basis So um the offense today really really good but again concerning that they continue to struggle hitting fast balls Still one of the worst teams in baseball hitting fast balls No extra base hits on balls over 90 mph today That is my big concern after this game Hopefully it gets fixed but uh I I’m not holding my breath until I mean like I said I I said this after the Rays game on T or uh sorry on Thursday nightmare scenario is they take two out of three from the Dodgers and they think all is just fine So um I think that it is going to be just okay but this is uh they they still have issues that they need to fix and I think that that you know winning cures everything but it doesn’t it kind of glosses over the issues that are underneath under the cover So um that is uh my opinion and kind of my concerns with what we saw from the offense today But after this break we will come back and we’ll talk about Seth Lugo’s outing and really just the kind of pitcher he’s been this season and last season that we’ve kind of taken for granted here recently That’s coming up guaranteed Seth Lugo was really really good once again today Um I know somebody in the comments earlier said uh he was really good except for the walks And I am sorry that I’m I’m trying to find uh trying to find that comment because I’d like to put it up Uh here we go Obido uh puts it back in the comments Awesome today Other than the walks Oido thank you for chiming in in the comments and yes I agree Um very much the walks were an issue I think when you have uh we saw this early in the season from Seth Lugo Um when you’re hunting the punch out a little bit you’re kind of picking at the at the you know white end of the strike zone You know what I mean like the when they show the box on the on the broadcast he’s kind of picking at the corners a little bit trying to be too perfect and sometimes you just miss spots and then you end up walking guys Um but I thought Luga was really really good today This was one of his best outings I understand the five walks as a concern but folks this is a lineup that I’m okay with him pitching around a little bit I mean he made it through five and two/3 shutout innings against this Dodgers lineup And this is a really really good Dodgers lineup I don’t think it needs to go underestimated or understated that this is a really good team And for him to punch Shi out twice for him to really I mean I I think it was Muki who he struck out and Muki kind of looked back was like “Dang that ball got on me fast.” I mean he had one of his best outings and you know maybe the Dodgers as an organization got a good scout on Lugo at the trade dead for the trade deadline and the Royals can float uh a couple better prospects in return I’m not saying that’s going to happen but for a Dodgers front uh for a Dodgers pitching staff that needs reliable starting pitching I have to imagine that the the Lugo outing today probably boosted his value maybe to another team maybe to the Dodgers but also just his value in general to the Royals It boosted it a lot more I mean he is a really really good pitcher that I think we take for granted just because he uh just because he’s been so good Um but I really like what we’ve seen from Seth Lugo Um I think he’s probably the second best arm on this staff I’d put Reagan’s Lugo and Bubich in a three-game series And I think Waka is a heck of a four and Lorenzan would be your long guy But this is a really good pitching staff Um I I totally forgot about Noah Cameron too I mean that’s that just goes to show you you know the overhaul this team has had in pitching development with Brian Sweeney coming in I mean hey guys Brian Sweeney came with Matt Cotero so I get it Alex Zumalt has been pretty bad recently Um I’m in the same boat I don’t think he should be the Royals hitting coach anymore I’m in the same same stratosphere as you guys I agree with you there Um but we can’t just pick out the negatives on guys and not you know float the positives I mean Brian Sweeny’s been an excellent hire by Q in this organization and JJ and uh it’s totally revamped the Royals like contention window because they can develop pitching like anybody in the they’re probably a top five pitching development organization in baseball right now So um just continuing to see improvement out of Seth Lugo over and over again And I think he really likes pitching to Salvi Um that can that’s something that I’ve noticed as well I mean he pitches a lot better when Salvi’s behind the dish compared to Freddy Um but that just might be me having you know might be recency bias checking in But I liked how Lugo threw today He was competitive I said it when they I think they was when they faced the Rangers Um Lugo is the stopper Like he is going to stop a skid He He’s always been that guy for the Royals He was last season He has been this season or at least he’s tried to be I know that the results haven’t always been there like there was in the A’s series and the Yankees series but remember the game they lost that Lugo started in the last home stand was the one- nothing loss to the Yankees So Lugo is the guy that I understand wanting to trade him because he’s probably their best trade piece right now Uh at least realistic trade piece Um but if you want to make a playoff push Seth Lugo is a vital part of that because he goes out every fifth day and I think he gives you the most consistent chance to win Cole Reagan has bad outings but he has some really elite outings Same can be said for Chris Bubich and the rest of the guys in the bullpen Seth Lugo’s bad outing is like five innings two earned runs and that is really really good So I think that Lugo has increased his trade value even more than we could have seen possible after his Sai Young runnerup season last year but man he was spectacular today Um and uh I I continue to think that he is one of the better pitchers in Major League Baseball right now And DJ uh sorry DJ Mack comes on and says we have to be 47 and 32 from now to get to 86 wins And DJ I I do think that that’s a a good point to bring up Thank you for bringing that up Um I think 86 is probably what you’re aiming for And honestly 47 and 32 that’s fairly realistic You got a lot more games coming up against the White Socks Um you got a lot more games against teams that you can beat here soon And at some point they’re going to make a move I I’m not saying they can’t go 15 over for the last 79 games but we’ve seen crazier things happen And in this American League where you know 86 wins probably gets you in the playoffs like it did last season there’s a lot of mid in this American League and so I think that that’s a great you know that’s a number that they’re looking for because I think that’s what they got last year from not if I remember correctly Um 86 is kind of the aiming point and I think that that is the goal that they have in mind is going to get 86 and then putting yourself in a position to win a postseason series But this is a uh a really really good win for the Royals some concerns still but obviously a step in the right direction for a team that desperately needed it after losing 12 straight at home All right tomorrow we’ll be back in this chair probably around 3:15 tomorrow Royals and Dodgers series finale Hopefully we’ll have a chance to talk about a series win once again as the Dodgers stay in Kansas City for another game That’s coming up tomorrow Appreciate you guys for tuning in today Don’t forget to like the video subscribe to the channel and turn on notifications so that you get notified when Jack posts a video and big deal so they got lucky and won inspite of the moron Q and sorry ass coaching 9 runs they just blew all their scoring for the next 10 games so very royal like no need to hurry with the trades now they already checked out a long time ago , gm sucks too
I think Lugos command was fine besides a couple pitches. He was trying to get them to chase which is understandable. Look at each walk, the pitch grouping was nice and tight
Don’t know how to feel. This proves they can be good offensively, but will they? Something is wrong with the coaching on this team. It’s way too inconsistent.
