  1. All the talk about getting the right value back and this is our draft day trade?

  2. I can’t, for the life of me, try to make sense of why Don Waddell would do this and give up this much. All while just handing Colorado 7.75m in cap space. Wtf

  3. This is supposed to be a cap dump. Miles wood is a negative asset, Charlie coyle is not worth his cap hit.

Meanwhile we gave them a 2nd, 3rd, and Gavin Brindley who was the 34th pick in 2023, looked good in the AHL, and is good friends and former teammates with Adam Fantilli.

My faith in Don has fallen tremendously

  4. I actually don’t really know what to say about this one, maybe Brindley is awful and we all just don’t see what the GM knows? Can we just give them back Miles Wood and they give us back Brindley

  5. Fantilli gonna be pissed. Moving his best friend who the team made a big deal about drafting together to trade him for 2 guys who don’t make the roster better is baaaaad bad

  6. Gifting Colorado cap space and paying them is insane when they could easily be in the running to now get FAs we are trying to get. Ehlers will 100% be looking at Colorado as a destination now

  7. Brindley was not that good last year. 52 g 6g 11a and a -10 . I am more bummed we threw in picks honestly

  8. I hope (and cope) that this is the precursor to a major move that needed a salary match.

  9. I’m gonna hold off too much judgement until Coyle and Wood actually play a game for the Jackets. Losing Brindley sucks, but who knows how prospects develop. Of course if he develops well this sucks, but Brindley could fizzle out and be a career AHLer. Who knows, it’s all just magic beans.

  10. Hey there friends! Avs fan here, look idk why your GM did what he did. I’ll say this, coyle wasn’t bad as a 3c but he was just too expensive for his price. Miles woods…well let me tell ya. He is definitely like a rollercoaster but, this ride doesn’t know when to stop itself before it get hurts. Also what’s the story behind brindley? Saw he got drafted 34th 2 season ago.

  11. I love how fast people are turning on Don. Such a massive overreaction imo.

He must not rate Brindley that highly. Fans, me included, often overvalue our own prospects.

He must also think we are a playoff team this year and that Coyle is a piece that gets us there this year, and Brindley doesn’t have enough long term upside to be patient.

GMs don’t value picks the way fans do. It’s so hit or miss outside of even just the top 10.

This is a win now move from Don and he clearly rates Coyle.

Not a move I’d have made, but Don has the CV to get the benefit of the doubt imo,

  12. Brindley is fighting an uphill battle to be an NHL regular with his size and last season’s AHL performance. I’m going to try and reserve judgment for now bc there are going to be a lot of future moves hopefully

  13. Giving up some decent future prospects for a 33 yr old center……

  14. I don’t really see what Coyle has that Kuraly doesn’t, except maybe double the salary and another year on the tires.

  15. You guys need to relax. Brindley was not drafted by Don, has had a tough go in the AHL, and don’t have much room for him. Coyle fills a need at center. Miles wood will thrive in deans system. Dude flys around checking everything in sight. Hard checking 4th line at 2.5MM is nothing

  16. is this ACTUALLY bad or is everyone just knee-jerk dooming?

If I read the comments out of context I would think we just gave Severson an 8-year extension.

EDIT: oh it’s because he costs $8M, carry on

But hey at least it’s only a year

  17. I don’t think any of you actually watched Brindley play up at the Monsters. Had potential sure but we don’t need another finesse 5’6 forward when we already have 10.

Funny how they are booing this but were stoked when Jiri got traded. At least Jiri contributed when on Monster’s.

  18. After stepping away from the sticker shocks. Colye is a major upgrade to Kuraly and ticks off a lot of boxes his team needs, right handed center, leadership, major pker, more defensive than offensive.

Brindley, as much as being my guy and I am sure Hfboards is in flames now, has taken a step back this year and undersized…I figured he be a potential trade asset this summer.

Woods is uh…the return of Erob…well yeah he’s going to be the 4LW but I’m going to let you have that one.

This could had been decent with a 2026 3rd and Brindley alone so /shrug.

It’s not as bad as some of you think it is but if y’all need to vent it’s fine.

  19. Oh my God some of you are insufferable. Brindley was not going to make this team. This just boosted our bottom 6 for virtually nothing.

  20. I’m not excited, but I’m not super upset. In a way, I feel like he’s playing a bit of moneyball here. He must see a need and is filling a niche. I’m not going to be mad until I see them play. It could work, it could not. Time will only tell

  21. I know we’re overreacting, but it’s hard to not feel sick with this being the only move so far, especially after missing out on Dobson. In GMDW we trust to deliver more fireworks this evening!

  22. Y’all kept pestering DW to use the cap space. That monkey paw curled real fast 😂

  23. This makes me feel like none of the high dollar Free Agents are going to pan out for us and we are working to get back to the cap floor.

  24. We needed to get better week 1 of the season, we did that with this trade. We got bigger, more experienced, more physical. We’re fine, everything is fine calm down.

  25. A Devils fan

    > My brothers and I always called Miles Wood the Cocaine Kangaroo. He’s not a good player but Christ every time he’s on the ice he acts like it’s the last shift of his career.

    > He will be loved in Columbus

I mean, put him on a line with Olivier and we’ve got a fucking tornado

  26. FWIW, the guys on NHL Radio actually like this trade for us, so maybe tamp down the doomerism

  27. I was pretty high on him at first. Brindley had 17 pts in 52 games last season tho and he’s a small dude. Coyle had 13 in 19 games, and was coming off of an injury. That’s still pretty damn decent.

To those mentioning Fantilli getting upset, I don’t imagine he’s going to be all that bothered.

He knows this is a business. We are still trying to get the ball rolling on this team. He knows what the deal is.

It’s not like he’s gonna pack up and say fuck it over this .

  28. As a dual citizen of Avs/CBJ fandom, I think Wood’ll do well under Dean, possibly even improve moreso than under Bednar. However, I gotta warn us, he does draw a lot of useless penalties and seemed to have so many turnovers last season before injury. But damn it’s fun to see him skate and smash!!! He’ll re-find his swag and puck sense, maybe the trade will wake him up, give him a boost. I personally love the guy. When he’s on, he’s really on, and he energizes the hell out of people! I hope his vibe matches well with Ollie… Bash Bros?!

  29. So, let me get this straight, we gave up a 2nd, a 3rd, and a B-prospect in Brindley to take a cap dump from Colorado? I mean Coyle is a decent 3C, but he’s undoubtedly overpaid, and Wood is a replacement level 4th liner signed for too much money and too much term, what is the upside for the Jackets here? We could’ve just kept JVR and Danforth for free instead, or maybe kept Wood out of the deal and made it just a 2nd or Brindley…

  30. Avs fan here. I don’t know anything about Brindley but I know the Avs were in need of cap space and picks, and we got both of those out of this. I liked Coyle and I really liked Wood. Coyle kinda disappeared in the playoffs this year, but then again, most of the Avs did. Wood can take some stupid penalties but dude plays hard and has speed, talent, and tenacity. I realize CBJ may end up moving one or two of these guys but this seems like a potential win-win trade. Anyways, I like Columbus a lot as a city and hope this works out for both organizations!

  31. Seeing that the 2nd rounder was conditional. Did anyone see the specifications on the conditions of the 2nd? Trade would make more sense if this has some tight conditions.

  32. So many armchair GMs on here. We don’t need all the cap space we have, Brindley wasn’t playing in the show next year, and these 2 guys will be on the opening day roster. Wait until you see GMs lighting money on fire July 1 in free agency – both of these cap hits will look good in comparison. Last point not mentioned a lot, you need the puck to score and Coyle changes our faceoff acumen immensely.
