MLB LIVE🔴 Chicago Cubs vs Houston Astros – Jun 29, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
all right first pitch coming up and towing the mound for Houston in this one Colton Gordon and Chris he’s a guy that gets better when things get tough well he’s been a very dependable starter for his club and what stands out for me is that left-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 against him and it just tells me they have a hard time tracking the baseball maybe it’s the release point maybe it’s the motion but just some way somehow they’ve got to figure out a way to pick it up and try to have some success from the left side ian H leading things off and takes a shot just missed there’s the swinging event one ball two straight good eye on that spot
good spot there but didn’t get the strike at the knees and doesn’t seem too convinced by the call out there on the mound as he tries to get a better sense of the umpire strike zone here’s a 2-2 the count is full and that one hammered and one hops the wall into second safely it’s a leadoff double to start the game he was all over that one got a good pitch to drive stayed short with his bat path to the ball and caught it out front and he stayed long in his follow through that’s how you split the gap and that’s pretty much a double every time so the go-ahehead run in scoring position kyle Tucker the next Cub to hit base knock right field h rounds third headed for the plate he will score and they take the lead and it’s an RBI single one- nothing always feels good when you come through and get your team on the board first off the bat that one registered at 105 mph man that is smoking and these days you hear it all the time but the numbers just don’t lie if you can drive a ball like that more often than not you’re picking up a knob seiya Suzuki the next Cub to hit
and he gets that fast ball by him upstairs all one [Applause] foul ball [Applause] see if he can go upstairs a little bit make sure you miss up and out of the zone since you’re heading to count one two don’t miss in the zone cuz that’s where you get hurt
in the dirt tucker aboard here at first with nobody out [Applause] foul ball another 2-2 upcoming [Applause] and a foul ball he stays alive [Applause] two two upstairs [Applause] keeps the bat going with a foul ball grinding AB right here about to see pitch number 10 and ball four to a board oh very close with the location right there it’s just tough to get rewarded on the call with pitches near the top of the strike zone
pete Crow
and up next for Chicago Pete Crow Armstrong he’s been tearing it up at the plate recently working on a fiveame hitting streak slider misses outside
this might be the most pressure you put on this guy today you got one run in you got to try to get another one or maybe two misses off the plate and now two and0 could be some action here on this next pitch couple runners on probably a challenge pitch coming
no outs runners at first and second [Applause] grounder might be two can’t glove it cleanly headed for the plate he’ll score and he’s into second with nobody out batty fifth shorts stop dansby Swanson and here comes Dansby Swanson golden opportunity right here [Applause] on the ground to third fires across the diamond and Swanson is set down michael Bush the next Cubak high in the draft he’s had that top prospect label over him since he put on a professional uniform but at some point that starts to go away and you’ve got to produce at the big league level a little out front there as he swings through it
really need to hang in there with that front side against this left-handed breaking ball
gordon checks the runner back in safe really close [Applause] and he swings through that one
pitch started in and ended up on the outside edge just changing planes and very difficult especially for a left-handed hitter to track
ground ball right side elu handles it onto first awesome play there time now for the Chicago Cubs lineup and Chris this group has been struggling to put up runs lately
well they haven’t been on base a ton and even when they are they haven’t been hitting very well with runners on base so they need a player or two to really step up have some quality at bats hit according to the situation and sort of break out of this i think if they do the rest of this lineup will follow and first offering is fouled off [Applause] two outs pop foul out of play off to the right i wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball try to go again with a fast ball slightly elevated he just having a hard time catching up swinging a ground ball paradis fires over to first that ends the inning and stops things from getting out of hand three runs for him here and they move ahead onto the bottom of the first it’s the Cubs three the Astros coming to bat back here in Houston and towing the slab daniel Palencia what should we keep an eye on here
well this guy’s just been filthy out there on the mound hitters batting under 200 against him and they’re just having a hard time squaring up anything doing any type of damage the only way he hurts himself is if he gives up the free passes and surreners a rare home run but outside of that slides but it gets by him [Applause] batting second third base Isach
Isach Paradis up next for the Astros outside low ball one now move to first safe two and0
in the dirt that one a little bit high and now 3 and 0 well triple digits on the gun i I know there are more pitchers that can reach that now than in the past but it’s still impressive to watch
and ball four two aboard
oh now he’s got two runners on after that walk and things can get out of hand in a hurry in these situations so he’s going to have to find a way to get back into the strike zone
jose Altuve up to hit here off the mark there and it’s one and0 can’t find it here that’s six straight balls come on Jose and that one fouled off first and second here no outs [Music] [Applause] pitches in big situations and right here with a middle of the order hitter up runner in scoring position he’s got to find a way to throw a quality strike [Music] knocks that one away and we’ll do it again [Music] the pitch swing and a miss for the strike out gas it right by him i love to see guys compete and I know he’s frustrated that he wasn’t able to do anything with that pitch you see it so well but you have to respect the upper 90s velocity man it is hard to catch up to and next will be the cleanup hitter Jake Meyers off the mark there and that is ball one [Applause] and that one upstairs [Applause] here we go here we go on the ground right side four six out three double play and the inning is over so no runs here on a base hit no errors and one left onto the second inning now from Dyken Park it’s the Cubs three and the Astros nothing back here in Houston top of the second here’s the second baseman Nicoer gordon back to work and first offering is fouled off [Music] just missed eric Summersgill our plate umpire
one thing to watch out for Boog is what side of the plate Summers Gill might be favoring he usually sets up at an angle pitchers sometimes will try to figure that out early so they can attack that spot and get as many strike calls as possible throws to first lead off man retired here in the second what about some nos like you can’t call the umpire blue the way you do in little league or high school right
yeah even in the minor leagues you’ll learn quickly uh you call the umpire blue you better learn his name and uh that’s just part of being a professional player and even a major league player matt Shaw at the plate and takes high there [Music] as the game has moved along we see more and more information supplied by teams about the umpires i’ve been in clubouses where they have pictures of all four umpires nicknames hometowns and as well hobbies listed just so you can kind of small talk the umpire a little bit that’s great
next offering is in for a strike one out base is empty this one lifted in the air left field two lay down
man Boo I love watching an outfielder take on the wall to make that play and it’s a lot easier to watch from up here because
that can be painful in the end you know the wall’s coming up on you quickly so you have to maintain concentration in able to make that catch and hold on to it after contact tab stands in now and watches strike one that one ripped right center field and one hops off the wall should be extra bases in safely with a double his second of the day
he’s a fast ball savant with the bat which is really helpful in today’s game fast balls aren’t getting any easier to hit these days here’s Kyle Tucker singled and drove in a run his first time through [Applause] that one pushed to the left and fouled runner at second two down here in the top of the second swaying at a highf fly ball well struck that’s back tattooed and gone his 17th of the year and they add a couple more it’s five zip [Applause] when you’re working with this kind of velocity so critical that you move the ball around work quickly and make sure that you keep that hitter off balance clearly not fooled by the location or the velocity he was all over that fast ball so two away with nobody on seiya Suzuki the next to hit fast for a strike [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] that clips the inside corner for a strike
no balls two strikes
two out space is empty cut out and miss struck him out that ends the frame cubs had two on this homer and the lead is now 5 nothing you’re dialed into the show bottom of the inning here’s the rookie rightielder Cam Smith
right fielder number 11 ground ball left side and foul ball [Music] next offering is fouled back [Music] on the ground to short in time to BCH and quickly one away in the second six first baseman Christian Walker
and now it’s Christian Walker swings through that one out in front that time
there’s a certain point where you have to commit to what you think you see and he guessed wrong right there nasty slider with just terrific bite at the end up and in and that’s ball two was good pitch there billy had some run and finished little up and in just on the edge
and that’s one of those if you swing at it he had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout [Music] let’s go outside and that is ball four
pretty good spot on the outside but just couldn’t quite clip the zone that’s a stone cold take
one gone runner at first yiner Diaz up next for the Astros [Applause] and a first pitch fastball is in for a strike
there it was a high velocity fastball in the zone i think a little frustration from walking the previous hitter he’s got good stuff pitch inside the zone and trust it next offering is in for a strike looks like he’s just sizing him up there a really good pitch to hit but he took it all the way sometimes guys just want to set their timing later on in the game that may be a pitch that he turns on just off the inside edge
really good take especially with two strikes to short could be two over to second for one onto first double play and that’s the inning offense held in check there we play two full it’s the Cubs five and the Astros nothing and welcome back to the ballpark onto the third inning so up now for Chicago Pete Crow Armstrong that catches the corner
i think this is an important inning on the mound for him in this game he’s got to find a way to settle things down and give some length in this start swing and a high-fly ball that’s out to center pulls it in for the out and there’s one down
up next for the Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson
dansby Swanson stands in [Applause] and there’s a rocket into the outfield now he turns and heads for second the relay and he’s there for the double seems like he got exactly what he was looking for right there that was one of those swings that it feels like you’re swinging an aluminum bat jumped off so hard squared it up and it went screaming at 108 miles per hour [Music] manager out of the dugout now and he’ll make a move to dip into the Astros bullpen colton Gordon done for the day and he’s responsible for the runner on second so the book isn’t closed on him yet we’ll be right back now pitching
righty reliever out of the pen ryan Gusto
he’s pitching on two days rest
ryan Gusto one out runner at second digging in Michael Bush that one missed swanson the runner at second with one away late swing fouled to the left little tardy on that fast ball is going to have to get it going a little quicker get that front foot down swing and a foul out of play [Music] fouls it back with two strikes clearly trying to stay back a little bit longer for that change up as he fouls that fast ball back waves at the Bender for the strike out well classic pitch sequencing there to change eye levels for the punch out that fast ball on the pitch before was up it was very competitive and that gets you thinking that he might try to climb the ladder but then the curveball out of that same tunnel just falls off the table and you can’t make contact and now the batter is Carson Kelly grounded out his first time up and that’s outside and that’s ball one two outs and one in scoring position [Music] swag a popup foul out of play off to the right side that’ll find the stands [Music] man at second and it’s fouled away [Applause] that wasn’t an easy pitch to hit it’s much easier to do damage against mistakes but that’s not what that pitch was stays alive runner at second two down hey you got this and the sweeper is off the plate [Music] still two and two after the foul ball cut on and missed and it’s a strikeout and that is the inning cubs leave one but they hold a five nothing lead so now the DH spot Cooper Hmel he’s been a great free agent side
hmel just off the outside edge on the ground right side horner over to first one gone bottom of the third inning batting night left fielder Mauricio here’s Mauricio Dubon dubon 30 years old now and he was born in Honduras fast is outside swanging a highf fly ball in the air left field half ranging back on it gone it finds the Crawford boxes a home run and they cut into the lead it’s 51 he absolutely feasts on right-handed pitching and devours that one for a homer and you can see that’s what he expects of himself at bat after at bat he’s that confident [Applause] that was one of those home runs where you really don’t know if he got enough of it off the bat i mean he put a good swing on it clearly but I wouldn’t say he really got the sweet spot on the back the exit be wasn’t anything too impressive but it had all it needed for him to circle the pillows [Applause] jeremy Pñena will hit next one for one he let off the bottom of the first with a single and that one sliced fouled [Applause] fast ball for a strike 02 is the count had a good eye there
i don’t like to say he wasted a pitch i think that was a purpose pitch change the eye level have him look up now go back exactly where you want to go
that’s outside and the count is even two and two swing at a ball popped up kelly has this one sized up makes the grab two down it’s a good recovery though after giving up the home run not allowing it to stay in the head but going to work at the next hitter and a tough one at that isach Paradis up next for the Astros worked to walk in his first trip to the plate hit hard on the ground to the right side and that’s just fouled [Music] two down base is empty but one run across here in the last half of the third and it’s even up
that’s inside [Applause] the one-1 is fouled off [Applause] that just misses it’s two and two boo he never moved because he never had time to but that kind of velocity you’d prefer that pitcher work away that’s out to center field crow Armstrong should have it makes the grab and that’s the inning astros get a run back here on the solo shot it’s now 51 you’re watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show nico her will come up to hit
he’s kind of an outlier especially when guys are consciously sacrificing contact to deliver power slashed foul down the right side that’ll hook off into the seats in the air out towards right center touch is down that’s a hit had a good start to the inning now
put a pretty good jolt into that one great swing nice balance and weight transfer and he got it to drop in out there in the deep part of the field
and next for the Cubs Matt Shaw that’s in there
yeah his swing is so good it’s in the zone a long time he gets the barrel to it a lot and that produces more base hits singy one of the things that’s interesting is that guys really don’t worry about swing and miss from an offensive standpoint
her on the go into center meyers makes the catch and there’s one gone
that’s just a really nice catch on the run right there he saved extra bases for sure if the pitcher’s his friend he’ll give him a second to catch his breath before he’s ready to deal the next pitch
in half up to hit yeah and the domino effect of that is running up pitch counts on pitchers and then either getting them to a place of fatigue or getting into the bullpen perhaps before you get to those higher leverage arms at the back end that one misses one and one one of the things that Jim Leland used to say when I was broadcasting with the Marlins the longer a plate appearance goes for a batter the more likely it is that something good will happen for the hitter
one ball two strike on the go
and they’ll do it again yeah and I figured you would get Kay into this because you had a free dinner at his house the other night
that is true battling here as he fouls it away in the dirt now two and two and down on strikes he goes that K is his third of the game frustrating end to the at bat for the hitter and I’m sure that’s going to sit on him for a little while you want to be ready to hit the fast ball sometimes you can overthink things and I think that was the case right there tucker in the box again takes the strike and one next offering is in for a strike perhaps not quite ready to hit first two pitches by him for a couple of strikes now back is against the walls going to have to figure something out and figure it out quickly and
a swing and a miss beat him with a fast ball
one left for the Cubs they lead this one though 5-1 here’s the former MVP Jose Altuve he was a strikeout victim his first time
jose Aluve that’s a hit and the lead off man aboard now batting center fielder
that ball was absolutely ripped 111 off the bat and I’m pretty sure it started to whistle after it left the bat
i think I heard that too Boo and these are the moments we appreciate when we can look at Statcast and just see exactly what the data is always so much fun to see what numbers pop up
and now Jake Meyers and first offering is fouled off and that one pulled foul nobody out runner at first tap back to the mound over to Swanson he turns it and it’s a double play oh man what a smooth double play that was a thing of beauty from start to finish cam Smith digs in now grounded out his first time foul ball two down nobody on we’re here in the bottom of the fourth close one doesn’t get the call and that’s ball one that one hit the knees for a strike it’s a tough pitch but in terms of the best pitch you’re going to get to hit in the at bat that fast ball was down enough where you’re going to catch up to
He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it astros are down quietly they’re down 5-1 now it’s going to be Seya Suzuki struck out on just three pitches last time gusto back to work in there for a strike at the bottom of the zone action in the pen down there from Valdez appears to be getting loose or also throwing and now the one and that’s a little bit high [Music] and that’s a little bit high two and one that one missing inside
he’s great hitting the ball the other way and that pitch did a good job to straighten him up a bit mission accomplished
in the air right field smith drop steps heads back on it and makes the grab one up one down now batting center fielder Pete Crow Armstrong
pete Crow Armstrong the next Cub to hit bowl for two in this one and first offering is fouled off a swing and a miss as he chases way out of the zone
two strikes
base is empty one away and we’re in the top of the fifth come on foul ball still 0 and two
man he’d like to have that pitch back all right let’s go tried to hold up on the 02 now a look down to third no swing he held up carl Dixon with the call there in the air right field pretty well struck this one’s got a chance pulls it in on the warning track up next to the Cubs short
Swanson digs in fought off foul not close with that one it’s a ball in two strikes [Music] ripped in the air left field and it’ll touch down for a base hit and that keeps the inning alive good two strike hitting right there Boo a bit of a lost start for some so that was nicely done to beat the odds you can’t do much better than that on a pitch that far outside of the strike zone got him to chase on the two strike count but he wasn’t fooled he hit that ball really well
at the blade Michael Bush foul ball there two outs and that one is downstairs and the count is one and one
just missed with a good breaking ball in looking for that hitter to chase and perhaps get some weak contact or a swing and miss good job on both sides and a foul ball the one two ball to he might have to look for a different putaway pitch right here 22 he’s already seen the curveball a couple of times in this at bat so might have it timed up and ready for it here we go that misses
and a full count now
great RBI spot here just got to stay focused on the pitch the runner will be in motion so something in the gap should definitely score it
oh nice stop at first
and that’s a nice play to end the inning excellent stop right there he wants to take it himself waves the pitcher off and continues to run into the dugout now at the plate Christian Walker
the Astros first baseman Christian Walker and that finds the mark on the outside corner strike one tap foul at the plate [Music] swing and a miss struck him out couldn’t catch up to the heater now batting
so next up for Houston Yiner Diaz he’s 0 for one out to center cro Armstrong gets under it corrals it two away what was that now batting the designated hitter
two out space is empty cooper Hmel up next for the Astros rolled out to second in his first at bat close one doesn’t get the call one and0 [Music] called strike a sinker at the bottom of the zone and there’s a foul ball [Music] and that one almost got him the Stros down by four last half of inning number five misses and now three and two [Music] [Applause] [Music] foul ball left side he’ll see another [Music] fouled off again and it remains three and two
well I think the key I mean if he can get through one more inning anything after that a hitter or two is bonus but they should be lined up good enough to get to the finish line zips it to first and that is that one two three go the Astros they’re down here five to one now the Cubs catcher Carson Kelly
carson Kelly fast ball in the inside corner for a strike [Music] hit on the ground to the right side and it goes just foul swings and misses at the breaking ball in the dirt gets to it onto first throws sails on him and it takes off down the line and he’s going to make it up to second base as that’s a two-base error now batting second baseman Nicoer runner in scoring position no outs and up next for Chicago Nicoer first pitch doesn’t find the zone
runner in scoring position nobody out and we’re the top half of the sixth clips the outside corner and it’s one and one [Music] come on Houston [Music] [Applause] [Music] swing and a ground ball out to short got him on the offbalance throw now one gone in the top of the sixth now batting third baseman Matt Shaw
and now it’s going to be Matt Shaw and a strike on the outside edge all one’s the count next offering is in for a strike he’s clearly out there throwing pitchers pitches in this situation first base is open if he walks him no big deal and down on strikes and that’s six Ks for him in this one well I think that’s a case of overthinking right there you got three straight fast balls looking in the O2 count just to pour it back here’s the Cubs leadoff man Ian Hap former first round pick out of the University of Cincinnati grew up in Pittsburgh
oh he doesn’t get the call ball one [Music] and another ball [Music] that misses the zone and it’s three and0 kyle Tucker would be next if they can extend the inning
and he’s homered already so I’m sure he’d love a chance to do some more damage here so now two on and two outs
he did not take the bat off his shoulder the entire bat
batting designated hitter Kyle Tucker so here’s Kyle Tucker now and he’s already left his mark on this game
he certainly has boo a two-run shot in the second inning and that made an early impact on this game in a big way delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95 some hitters are just more confident they can track that first pitch out of the hand of the pitcher they don’t care if they fall behind 01 got the bat going too soon it’s strike two well that’s textbook pitching right there i mean he executed those first two pitches perfectly kelly on second half at first two out of the inning nope that’s in
02 curve right there hitter kind of expects that and good job of just showing that confidence and trying to get back into this count swing and a miss struck him out make it seven strikeouts for him two left on 91 and two scheduled to hit in the home half of the six it’s the Cubs five and the Astros one here comes the new arm for the Cubs Cade Horton and he’s had his struggles so far this year as you can see the inflated RA looking to bring that down a little bit right here kade Horton leading off now the left fielder Mauricio Dubon he blasted one out earlier in the third
just a solo home run but an important swing of the bat in this game we’ve already seen him do it once can he do it again that one fouled off horton in his rookie season he features a fourseam fastball a slider a curve and he works in a change up takes it in for the out
it’s never fun going back to the dugout after hitting a line drive that finds a glove but you will get some high fives you know when you make great contact you feel like you’ve done everything right but in this game of baseball not everything is in your control
stepping in Jeremy Pñena one for two the shorts stop takes the ball the Cubs bullpen with some action brad Keller up and throwing for manager Craig Councel pomerance also getting ready the Cubs leading by four here in the bottom of the sixth in the air left field pat sizing this one up puts it away for the out and a couple of quick outs
hey man four pitches two outs that is an excellent base
two down base is empty down the third base Isach Paredus he’s 0 for one and first offering is fouled off [Music] that’s inside [Music] [Applause] next pitch a slider that misses outside pretty easy to give up on that pitch right there started on the edge of the plate with the spin and you know it’s going to finish well off the plate fouled off left side and there’s the ball he should get a pretty good pitch to hit here with the three-hole hitter coming up if he’s walked got him looking and a nice inning of work there as he sets him down one two three three up three down that time we’re through six full it’s the Cubs five and the Astros one now pitching on here Caleb Ort
well he’s been a bit of a wild card out there in terms of throwing strikes he’s definitely struggled with free passes this year and now the right fielder Sea Suzuki right fielder Seiya Suzuki [Music] backed off the plate that time oh the adrenaline’s pumping right there pretty good fast ball unfortunately it got away from him he’s going to have to corral things a little bit the one ball inside [Music] and that is out of play [Music] there’s a swing and a drive and it’s off the out of town scoreboard the throw in and he’s going to get to second with nobody out
a late jump and I think that was the difference on the playbook it’s not always easy seeing the ball off the bat something to improve runner in scoring position no outs pete Crow Armstrong getting ready to hit first off and it just misses no outs runner on second hit hard but foul off to the left [Music] inside corner for a strike one and two activity in the Houston bullpen from Valdez the southpaw is throwing and getting that sinker dialed in let’s go Astro come on Astro
the one two cuts and misses it’s a strike out
he came out of his mechanics there typically likes to shoot the ball the other way but that time little anxious and now it’s Dansby Swanson let’s get the win this one popped up foul ground first base side walker hauls it in and there’s two away now batting first baseman Michael Bush michael Bush the next Cub to hit 0 for three with two ground outs and a strikeout that’s in there that’s strike one [Applause] next offering is fouled back gets a piece and it stays 0 and2 [Music] breaking ball misses down and away recognized that change up right out of the hand just spit on it popped up altuve moving under this one he’s got it and that is that cubs leave one they’re up 5-1 [Music] 345 do up for the home team now it’s the second baseman Jose Alt
alt here’s a high-fly ball out to center cro Armstrong under it brings it in and there’s one down now batting center
jake Myers now at the plate
myers [Applause] that one pushed foul the Astros down by four here in the bottom of the seventh that one inside and the count even one and one up the middle swanson fires over to first two gone now now batting number 11 two outs base is empty cam Smith up next for the Astros has grounded out a couple of times now a screamer into the outfield got it really had to move for that catch and that will end the inning starting to run out of outs as they’re unable to chip away eighth inning coming up it’s the Cubs five and the Astros won and here’s the catcher carson Kelly 0 for three with two strikeouts and a ground out astros ford back to work right through there for a strike there it was oh here it is hit it he gets a take gets ahead in the count little bit high and now it’s even one and one
one ball one strike [Music] swing and a miss as he chases that one darting out of the zone swinging a miss stuck him out chase the fast up the ladder for strike three third time he struck out in this one and definitely an individual performance you want to flush he just hasn’t looked very comfortable up there just one of those days but when you’re still winning the ball game at least you can focus on doing your part to maintain that lead and getting that W ripped on the ground is second altuve slings to first two up two down here in the top of the eighth
now batting third baseman Matt Shaw matt Shaw will hit next 0 for three with two flyyous and a strikeout and first offering is fouled off let’s go swinging a foul back that’s out of play i wouldn’t say the game’s close right now but it’s not out of reach either i mean these pitchers really need to put up a zero on the board just to maintain a little hope swing and a miss and he struck him out and the Cubs go one two three now pitching for the
Keller takes over on the mound and he’s got a nice lead to work with so he should come in throwing strikes attacking these hitters
and now Christian Walker
first baseman Christian Walker check swing and he went and that is strike one just lost so now one and two
he has a tendency to chase out of the zone and that slider that’s down that’s one of his money pitches to get that swing and miss swing and a miss at 96 struck him out lead off man is out here in the eighth well that’s always the key to effective pitching is getting ahead in the count and as a pitcher it really allows you to start expanding the zone hitters become defensive and all of a sudden that plate starts to get really wide and what happens is because of the pressure you end up committing to a pitch as a batter before you recognize what it is and that’s what leads to the strikeout one down base is empty and that one fouled off inside almost got him base is empty one away here the bottom half of the eighth inning ground ball to the right side and foul ball and the one two misses to even the count oh this is a guy that can be frustrating for pitchers because he fouls off so many pitches and grinds out the atbat i’m sure there’s sometimes where a pitcher would rather just give up a first pitch single than have to waste six or seven pitches on one hitter strike three and that’s two in a row no you know that’s got to be very frustrating for this guy he knows the strike zone extremely well and you know what good hitters are not going to compromise he’ll take that punch out but ultimately stick with his plan and have more success than anything else two down base is empty next is the DH a switch hitter Cooper Hmel and that one almost hit him [Applause] two down to that one finds a corner and a count one and one
wow that’s 89 on the gun and it’s a change up it’s like good hitting if you’re looking for it but because of the speed differential between the fast ball and that pitch really hard for a hitter to get on time with it fans another and that’s three straight strikeouts so no runs no hits no errors and no one left through eight full it’s the Cubs five and the Astros won now pitching
and Valdez into the game and one thing on him he’s been really good this season at keeping the ball in the park not an easy guy to take deep back to the top of the order so up now for Chicago in half
the half daddy [Applause] Valdez in his sixth season he features a sinker a curb a change up a slider and he works in a four seamer grounds one to short boots it kyle Tucker aka King Tuck to the plate now he’s already homerred here in this one [Applause] and first offering is fouled off h gets his lead at first nobody out next pitch inside one ball one strike activity in the bullpen josh her the left-hander is getting that big fast ball of his ready to go [Music] [Applause] and a 1-1 swings through that one for strike two one two strikes two
in the dirt runner at first with no outs here [Applause] chopped to the right side walker to second pulls him off the bag now batting right fielder Seya Suzuki first and second no outs seiya Suzuki digs in now [Applause] and the first pitch misses for ball one first and second no outs here in the top of the ninth hit on the ground might be two offbalance feed there’s one to Walker and that’s two they made that double play look so easy but it was far from routine that’s the one thing about big leaders and they make tough plays look simple
pete Crow Armstrong the next cup to hit 0 for four a couple of fly outs he’s also grounded out and struck out [Applause] first pitch misses and that one is in for a strike
ruer third two away and that’s fouled off one and two here and a swing and a miss and that’s that so it’s no runs on no hits a couple of errors and one left on base and 912 scheduled to lead off the bottom of the ninth it’s the Cubs five and the Astros one and stepping in for the Astros Mauricio Dubon he’s already homerred in this game [Applause] and that’s through there for a strike go and one out to short swanson the throw to first one out bottom of the ninth
now batting the shorts stop jeremy Pñena
jeremy Pñena up next for the Astros one for three [Applause] and first offering is fouled off the Cubbies leading by four we’re in the last half of the ninth inning swinging a foul pushed off to the right and that will get out of play [Applause] one down base is empty foul ball it stays nothing and two [Applause] look out
and it hit him he had two strikes on him and he hit him
is he parades up next for the Astros pitch misses there and it’s one and0 squirts away a little bit [Applause] and it is two and one [Applause] and that’s downstairs and outside swing and a highf fly ball out towards right center field he’s there he’s got it and there’s two away up next for the Astros second baseman Jose
astros down to their last out now a chance for Jose Altuve let’s go Astros [Applause] first pitch and he just misses now
if he’s going to steal second you want him to go early in the count that way he’s not a distraction to the hitter at the plate go ahead and get it out of the way so the hitter can focus on the pitch and it’s fouled away [Music] the Stros down to their final strike that one inside two and two
that turns out to be a really good take right there but you don’t want to end this game with the bat on your shoulder
pñena off of first with two away [Music] and a pop off right side foul territory and that’ll do it sometimes road trips can be tough you’re away from your family but when you can win silence that opposing crowd it makes things just a little bit better makes the road trip just a little bit shorter 51 is how it ends the Cubs go home a winner for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB The Show i’m John Shabi we’ll see you soon
