it is awesome i was at the ballpark these last two games just watching this team have the success they’re having they’re playing some of the best baseball i would argue under the Peter Bendix era these guys are are coming over otto Lopez a waiver claim last year how important has he been to this team augustine Ram Ramirez Kyle Sters this team is competing and they’re winning you know that we talk about competition and staying in games being in a position to win them that’s what the Marlins are finally doing they’re finding a way to come back these guys are the fighting fish i absolutely love it the Diamondbacks the Giants two very respectable teams these aren’t the Rockies you know like you think you think back to that Rockies series the vibes were just non-existent we were wearing bags over our heads it was depressing and this team rebounded there they’ve now won seven straight games for the first time since 2022 three series in a row they’ve won including two sweeps let’s we got Let’s take a step back to Friday’s game i was I was in the stands for this one that was awesome an absolute awesome game just back and forth between two good ba two good baseball teams i’m calling the Marlins good right now because they are playing very good baseball kyle Stau is a huge home run and then in Sunday’s game he clears the bases with a double he looks like he’s going to be the Marlins All-Star representative now because he’s heating up again and for all the fans that were wondering oh was it just a flash in the pan kyle Sters started off hot but he’s regressing back to the mean he’s not a good ball player you’re wrong kyle Sters is here to stay folks well what happened at the beginning of the season that started us off I think it was like four and six four out of six games we won we started off like four and two I believe in that first week what started us off that hot was a Kyle Sters being hot and b it was Otto Lopez being hot so when those two guys are a driving force of this uh lineup that they have going on they think they’ve used it four times or five times an actual same lineup over the last couple weeks it’s a winning lineup and these players are hot and did you take the swimming lessons over the weekend from Dane Meyers cuz I I feel like jumping in a pool i got those swimming lessons on how to steal a base it was an overall team win you mentioned the names and we just did Otto Lopez we mentioned the name Kyle Sters we mentioned Dane Meyers Augustine Ramirez um you could really go down the whole thing it was really funny cuz Jesus Sanchez I think is the only player over the last uh couple games or week or so that didn’t get an RBI but uh everyone else and he contributed don’t get me wrong but everyone else contributed with an RBI just overall team play is at an all-time high even when the pitchers aren’t doing so well the team the the the uh position players get to the plate and uh back them up yeah i mean that’s what it is it’s team success it’s not just one guy or two guys finding individual success you know like we we’ve seen that happen before we’ve seen that over the last decade the Marlins had guys who are studs like the fact that Augustine Ramirez is coming up and is just an absolute force in this lineup that’s not new the Marlins had Jean Carlos Stanton Christian Yelich you know we’ve had guys but what’s happening now is this team of underdogs they’re all playing together as one cohesive unit and that’s where the winds start to roll in think about you know the fact that the bullpen the bullpen let’s go back to the Giants series calvin Fosch gets a save opportunity he blows it he blows it in the ninth it goes to extras the Marlins two three weeks ago lose that game but Araberto Hernandez huge two-run double otto Lopez with the RBI single they blow the the game wide open against the Giants closer Camo Dval this is what is happening guys are stepping up when it matters most they’re hitting with runners in scoring position and two outs how important is it to hit with guy with a guy on second base third base and then what I really liked seeing over this weekend this the the the stolen bases i mean Dane Meyers stole five bases in this series alone he was running wild the the Diamondbacks couldn’t stop him it was great it I if you look back on how the Marlins were losing for that long stretch that really put us I think 16 or 15 games under 500 it was everyone was stealing on the Marlins and we weren’t doing it back right even in that uh sweep series that we don’t like to discuss we’ll call it the Voldemort series um where we got swept out of Lone Depot Park um that series the the the Rockies just ran all over us ran all over our pitching and during the last week that’s what we did we ran all over their pitching we didn’t care if we got thrown out we took the chance most of them paid off a couple of them had to go to review we lost a review today um which I I still think it was a steal but they couldn’t reverse the call you were at the game but they they they announced it as um as not like confirmed just the play on the rule on the field stands because they couldn’t find enough to reverse it or vice versa keep it uh but ultimately it came to the call on the field that was the Otto Lopez steal I believe um but for the rest of the series the Marlins are running they’re creating runs dane Meyers in the top of the ninth yesterday created his own run to get in to tie the game friday night verse um the the Diamondbacks you had I think it was Phillips uh come in in the bottom of the ninth and load the bases and luckily he got out of it i think that that was bad managing by Clayton Mcola to be honest he should have been pulled after the bases were loaded not given that opportunity to give up the game he just uh really got lucky I think um but going into Saturday we won a different way going into Sunday we won sort of like Saturday just a little bit earlier um I think Kyle Coff said it perfectly uh of course he wasn’t calling the series getting the week off um he called it perfectly he said “If you let this team stay in games which the Diamondbacks and Giants both did if you let them stay in games and give them that opportunity to come back they’d never quit.” As Dane Meyers and I’ll quote Dane “We are the fighting fish that is standing.” He said that yesterday in his interview yeah no I mean Dane Myers was huge in this series going back to that stolen base it it was almost a deflating caught stealing given the situation that the Marlins were in jav it was Javier Senohha not not Otto Lopez and from the press box I’m looking at the video board it looked like his cleat was on it in fact the Diamondback media member next to me he said he’s safe and I was like “Yeah I mean he looks like he’s safe.” And they the call stood but they didn’t let that one call determine the outcome of the game that that’s what I love about how they’re playing right now after this break we’re going to we’re going to do a quick ad and then continue talking about this series against the Diamondbacks seven straight wins and look at it from a bird’s eyee view just how good the Marlins are playing right now and what we expect from them moving forward that’s coming up right after this and this episode is brought to you by FanDuel summer started second segment segment with loud Miami fan and we’re discussing this awesome series win against the Diamondbacks seven straight wins they swept the Giants they swept the the Dbacks let’s keep the good times rolling Chase let’s keep winning because winning is fun and I I’m I’m just sometimes I I just sit back and I I’m just so happy with with the product on the field that the Marlins are putting out there i look at this young core and there are some players that are going to be here for a while and that aren’t just placeholders sometimes in a rebuild you think about placeholders guys that are just there to fill up a roster spot and you know they’re not going to be part of the next Marlins core the next competitive team but I look at someone like Augustine Ramirez Kyle Sters Otto Lopez who why wouldn’t they be part of this Marlins core this is a de developmental year the wins are great but the team probably isn’t going to buy at the deadline it they’re still eight games under 500 but they’re a game back at the Braves but this core is producing and and that’s what I love to see it’s not just you know a cheap win here you squeak by three to two no they’re blowing the doors off of opposing bullpens right now they are putting runs up in bunches ramirez you don’t want to face Augustine Ramirez the Diamondbacks intentionally walked him on Sunday kyle Sters yeah he he was through a slump but he broke out of it and now he’s an absolute force at the plate and Otto Lopez is playing out of his mind they’re they’re those players that you’ve mentioned are leading the way are the catalysts and you got to throw Dane Myers in there you can’t tell him I’m a big Dane Myers fan but you got to throw Dane in creation of some offense here um he’s batting 299 um he’s had he didn’t get had the most hits over the last week but he did he did win basically or tie at least game two of the series um I do want to point out that Derek Hill is coming back so this team’s not even at 100% you mentioned place fillers i think Derrick Hill was brought in as a place filler and he’s not even on the roster he’s coming back up probably a Winkler is going to be sent down uh for him um but let’s talk about what this team has done it they’ve won seven straight games they’ve won nine straight road games and that’s going back to three sweeps first being the uh Washington Nationals then the San Francisco Giants now the Diamondbacks they’ve won 12 of 16 games they are the hottest the hottest on fire team in baseball if you want to make a comparison you just make you just mentioned they are not going to be buyers at the deadline no they are not but will they be sellers at the deadline is a wait to see we think they’re going to trade uh some pitching but our pitching’s in shambles away from who’s on this roster right now um so can they afford to uh get rid of uh or not get rid of but trade a Sandy trade a Cabrera will will Sandy get back the return i don’t think so after his Saturday start um but we we’ll wait and see um if you want to make a comparison I think the Fish on First team did a great job with Eli spitting numbers and he was great on your show for those listening go back to the YouTube and the podcast listen to last week’s episode by with Eli Susman and Jeremiah it was great eli did mention that we are on pace i think one game behind where the Detroit Tigers were at this point last year a team just has to get hot and they were not buyers or sellers actually they were sellers at last year’s deadline but they were not buyers and if this team can stay hot which we’ll have to see how they do out of the break right out of the All-Star break in two weeks that’s kind of when it’s make it or break it but if this team can get hot it’s unfortunately they’re in the National League because in the American League they’d have a shot a real shot at a wild card um there are just too the National League is sacked however if it goes to a tie they now have the season series over the Diamondbacks and over the Giants so they can take if it comes to a tie they would get the playoff spot the Cubs who are leading their division they have the tiebreaker over the Marlins this year um the Braves the Marlins have the tiebreaker over so far of course we’re early and uh we’ll have to see where the Mets who’ve really owned the Marlins this season and the Philly have really owned the Marlins this season which one of those ends up getting a wild card cuz one of those teams will so it’s going Sorry for long talk here but they’re they’re they are in it how how many more series can they win and season series can they win to hope for a playoff tie uh to be one of the wild card spots is the question the fact that we’re sitting here on the podcast entertaining you know the idea that the Marlins are even relevant in postseason discussions that should tell you that this team is is playing extremely well going back to your point about winning nine straight road games overall on the season you know entering Sunday’s game the Marlins were tied for ninth place in all of Major League Baseball in runs scored this team plays well on the road i don’t know where the disconnect is between home and the way you know you you want to play its home field advantage but there is an element to the fact that the Diamondbacks stadium right at Chasefield 28,000 yesterday and 30,000 on Sunday so that that that would be a record- setting crowd for a random June game in in Miami in Long Depot Park this team obviously feeds off of the opposing crowd’s energy they like the underdog role they want to go out and and have the booze you know that they take pride in being the comeback kids they’re the fighting fish this team will not quit and it’s a it’s it’s composed of guys who were were kind of counted out their whole career dane Myers was a rule five draft pick otto Lopez was was was DFA by the San Francisco Giants he was a waiver claim you have Eraberto Hernandez era Klutch Hernandez as I call him minor league free agent who else kyle Sters discarded from the Orioles in the Trevor Rogers trade he wasn’t viewed as one of their top prospects and then struggled immensely in 2024 many Marlins fans didn’t want him on this opening day roster i can’t remember LMF if you were one of those fans at the beginning of spring training because we knew we had to stay the course you had to stay the course with Kyle Sters and I said going back to the to spring training this is it i have no problem with him making the opening day roster but he’s got a short leash this is make it or break it for Sters and you know what he stepped up to the challenge and he proved that he is a good major league ball player and one of the best offensive you know producers that the Marlins have a lot is going to tell us oh go ahead i I’ll let I’ll let you go
well I was going to say I wasn’t one of those people who was against Sters making the roster i think I was very adamant that I didn’t think Derek Hill was going to make the roster just because he didn’t fit jesus Sanchez got injured which allowed the opening for the Sters or Conine to make the team uh as they went with four outfielders or five outfielders it’s going to be a strange week now they’re adding um you have Hernandez here and now they’re adding uh Derek Hill back so I I think there’s a plethora of outfielders but not enough spaces to play them all i just really hope they do not ruin the camaraderie that’s been going on or the momentum that’s been going on by trying to put some of these guys in uh to platoon we’re going to talk about the return of Derek Hill and also look ahead to this home stand because I think it’s a very important next week at home for the Marlins against two quality teams the Twins and the Brewers that’s coming up right after this make sure you’re subscribed to the YouTube channel it helps me out a lot on the YouTube page and also remember that that Lock On Marlins Monday through Friday Spotify Apple Amazon Music wherever you get your podcast you can find Locked On Marlins derek Hill is most likely going to return this week LMF and I struggle to see the fit where where Hill’s going to fit in because I don’t want him taking away playing time from the hot hands of Kyle Sourers or Araberto Hernandez and you know and both of those guys have been really really good during this this last winning streak seven straight wins you don’t want to break up that continuity i would rather Derrick Hill kind of slide in to be that fourth fifth outfielder if you really think about it and just be the guy that comes off the bench as a defensive replacement comes in the game as a pinch runner and then gets a spot start maybe once a week and you know it’s it’s nothing against Derrick Hill but I I want to see the guys continue to play we we have to see what these young guys continue to do and you you talk about defensive replacement really the only defensive player who’s or player who’s not up to par at defense is Jesus Sanchez out of that group you got Dane Meyers who flattens his face almost every road trip against the wall you have Kyle Sters who stole a home run um over the weekend um you you have Jesus Sanchez from the DH spot he didn’t start on Sunday’s game um but and then Herberto Hernandez had a great defensive week um out in San Francisco so it’s going to be very tough other than to platoon Derek Hill with the Jesus Sanchez at the end of game to get him in look it’s nothing against him as you say we appreciate what he’s done it’s not like an obvious Garcia situation where you’re like “Oh I can’t have him play he’s not good he can’t hit.” Derek Hill can and does and adds something adds a veteran leadership to this lineup that they just don’t have elsewhere so if he’s on the bench if he takes Winkler’s spot on the bench as someone who might play once a week I’m all for it if unfort there’s it’s unfortunate in sports you get injuries if an injury happens you have him ready to go i’m not saying DFA him but you can’t put him at DH because you have to give Liam Hicks some time too you didn’t mention him before but he’s been on fire all season and one of those rule five draft guys yeah that’s right hicks has been great for the Marlins thing with Derek Hill like he’s just kind of a low offensive ceiling guy like you’re not going to play him over Starders or Sanchez unless there’s a lefty in which he’ll might platoon but then you have Eraberto Hernandez who’s going to get those those reps against lefties in place of Sanchez so there’s a lot of like moving parts on this Marlins team when it comes to the outfield because they have a lot of options so moving on to this home stand nine straight on the road seven straight wins your last series at home you took two out of three from the Braves now you got the Minnesota Twins you fly back to the to the East Coast you got a nice off day on Monday the guys need it they’re going to be enjoying it but then it’s right back to work because you have three against Minnesota and you’re going to have to face their ace Joe Ryan so it’s it’s a tough test for Miami because right after that you got the Brewers i want to see this team just continue to do what they’re doing don’t change anything up you’re you got to rely on your bullpen and rely on your studs and and you gota Dane Meyers Augustine Otto if these guys stay hot I see no reason why they don’t at least take two out of three from Minnesota i’m gonna steal a term from a show called The West Wing which is a political show great show if you get a chance to watch it on Max i’m not plugging that but I’m going to steal a term from there called The Big Mo and that Big Mo is Big Momentum and the Marlins have that Big Mo right now so why change it up just continue it make make it a home thing right you’re not hitting at the top of the ninth you’re hitting You don’t even have to hit in the ninth just bring the lead in from the eighth right um you have the chance to win games if they’re tied at the end um you got the Twins coming in we face the race you’ll see me on TV Thursday at the 12:00 start game or the noonish start game in Orange with Marlins man behind home plate uh he’s bought about eight or nine seats behind home plate i’m going to be one of them and it’s going to be fun so look out for that i will be at the game on on Saturday sorry on Friday and Sunday i’m doing three of four it’s big thing coming from Bokeh to go down there but no I’m celebrating this team as you should and you being the listeners if you’re in South Florida please come out and support this team it is the dog days of summers there’s no Miami Heat there’s just heat in the sun coming down and we have a roof and the games don’t get rained out so come out support this team you got a couple night starts you got an afternoon start Thursday an afternoon start Saturday you have a uh night game on Fourth of July come see some fireworks and Sunday let’s send this team out on a high with with hopefully what could be additional sweeps or just series victories where we can get closer and closer to 500 this team has earned it they’ve earned it with momentum for you they are your fighting fish they don’t hear the outside noise some of them as we learned uh as we interviewed uh Troy Johnston on Friday night which you can listen to at the hash let’s get louder podcast right after listening to this yes that’s a shameless plug but um you can you can listen to that episode there um but you heard from Troy Johnston that sometimes they block out all the noise they just play their their job is baseball and they don’t even watch what everyone else is doing they’re playing their game so let’s let’s support this team let’s be good fans not the fans that are somber oh our team stinks this team is good they’re overachieving you could compare them to 2023 except the rest of the league is just doing better than they did the rest of the league did in 2023 so uh let’s watch and support this team and that’s my rant get out to Lone Depot Park and let’s get louder if you Yeah like LMF is saying if if you’re in an opportunity to go see the Marlins whether you’re in South Florida you’re on the road where just go out and watch them like for all the fair weather fans out there and I know if you’re watching or listening to the show you’re not a fair weather fan like get back on the bandwagon start watching these Marlins because you can see the future you can see guys who are becoming part of the Marlins core if I were to tell you and and this is for everybody listening or watching that on June 30th the Marlins would be 37 and 45 one game behind the Braves and they’re fourth place not fifth place in the National League you would absolutely take that you would they’ve won 12 out of 16 they’re playing good baseball yes they they may have gotten swept by the Rockies but you know what that feels like forever ago doesn’t it because to me I I think that feels like a hundred years ago i can’t even reme remember it i remember putting the bag over my head but that’s about it i love this team man you started from the bottom now you’re here you got to hit hit rock bottom against the Rockies to make your way up and play better as a team better managing and look Clayton McCull has not been perfect at all he’s been better but he’s also made some mistakes like even Friday night I mentioned before keeping Phillips in a little bit too long it was a little close to getting that win um as they had bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth did the Arizona Diamondbacks um the rest of the league is struggling the Marlins are making up ground let’s get out there and have fun it’s not expensive i can’t tell you people how to spend your money i have to save to go too but I will spend 5 to 20 bucks on a ticket lower bowl which is great seats in any other stadium you’re paying 85 to 150 for those seats get out to Lone Depot Park Miami this is to you get out to Lone Depot Park have some fun it’s fun it’s entertainment and these guys deserve your cheering in the stands uh for for them the rest of this week we’re going to give our final predictions for this upcoming week because next week LMF will be on and we’ll re-evaluate the week before it’s a good kind of schedule we got going on so against the Twins you got three against Minnesota three against Milwaukee keep it going the Big Mo as LMF said I love that the Big Mo marlins win two out of three from Minnesota then they go to Milwaukee and they sweep the Brewers and now the rest of MLB starts noticing and instead of 50,000 Show Otani posts we get a Ronnie Enriquez post we get an Otto Lopez post and this team the vibes are going to be immaculate it’s going to be July 4th this upcoming week the celebration of our country’s birth and we’re celebrating the Marlins rebirth into a team that we all love they’re fighters they do not quit and you should love them too you got Cabrera you got Junk um and I don’t know who the third pitcher is in the next series and then you’ll get Sandy you’ll get Yuri again maybe Yuri’s one but you you’ll get you the way the Marlins are set up they can win every two of three when you have Yuri and Sandy going back to back even in a game that Sandy wasn’t himself again he he he kind of got lit up i think it was the third inning where he really It’s It’s It’s strange with Sandy we didn’t get a chance to discuss it on this episode but it’s strange with Sandy to me because it’s one inning it’s when guys start getting on base he gets in his own head and he overthinks it and that’s where it starts and you watch it in his face anyway you we can win two of three games at any set and we can compete against the best pitching in the league once we get to their bullpin and blow them out of the waters and I use that as a punt get out to Lone Depot Park i have us also winning bowl series i don’t have another sweep uh but I do have us going four and two in the next six
that’s great i love it and um that’s going to do it for today’s edition of Locked on Marlins and for LMF for Jeremiah Guyger we’re out of here stay safe stay locked on and let’s go fish
The Marlins are on FIRE! Back to back sweeps of the Giants and D-Backs, and the win streak is at 7! Otto Lopez can’t be stopped, Agustin Ramirez is a stud, Kyle Stowers is punishing baseballs again, and Dane Myers is swiping bags left and right. LET’S GO!

This team is super fun to watch, I’m genuinely excited to watch them play day by day.
