names prominently mentioned in the deal were Nick Wah and Nick Heg the Knicks at night and now he is off the table a sign and trade deal would appease perhaps both teams more for Toronto we believe but what are the pros and cons Chris of a sign and trade deal at this late stage um the Leafs get something in return and I I still wonder why Hey ends up going to Nashville in this circumstance maybe Mcrimman did want a couple of depth pieces maybe it was simply the Leafs were asking a little too much for a player that’s going to walk away in a second in free agency so Mcrimman’s like “Um yeah I’m just I’m going to give you the middle finger and I’m going to trade Nick Hey to Nashville and you can take Martner for uh you can take Martner for Nick Wah and maybe some type of throwin or on Tuesday morning uh about you know 7 a.m local time or 8 a.m whatever the earliest Martyr can be signed we’re just going to take him from you for nothing.” So it’s it’s fun watching the the chess game between the general managers break out here uh the benefit for both teams in a sign and trade vegas has control uh another camp can’t come in and try and sway Marner away from the Golden Knights at the last second that’s the first thing I would say and then of course on Toronto’s side the benefit is they get something instead of what’s likely to be nothing as it’s basically 24 hours away from uh the start of free agency so it helps both teams in this circumstance more for Toronto but I think uh once the leaf started talking about this tampering uh BS and everything I think that’s the moment McMin said “Okay fine watch watch watch what I’m going to do now you had your chance.”
Well for VGK it also an opportunity to clear some more cap space there so that they can in fact sign
well clear whether it’s with Toronto or someone else as we saw with Hey we’ll talk hit that harder a little bit but yeah
tampering penalties are no joke in the NHL vgk has been talking to MNER since last year’s uh the trade deadline you and I our names is they’re also attached

okay um that’s interesting and uh house house shopping probably right out there
he was in Vegas this weekend okay so anyway uh remember it goes back to the trade deadline of a year ago shay Theodore was up in that deal but there is up to a $5 million fine for teams termination of any contract signed forfeiture of draft picks and then for individuals i.e kelly Mcrimin
a million-doll fine suspension or expulsion from the league very severe and on 32 thoughts again again got to hand it to Freriedman he’s been oh so busy he said that the league had sent another memo about tampering to all of the GMs and he’s starting to feel that they might make a case out of one of these general managers i don’t understand why you are not taking these charges serious for one one there’s no charges yet and two it’s the Leafs just sour grapes it’s it’s well we’re going to lose mner we’re going to try and get something you know no it’s it’s sour grapes i mean listen the Toronto Maple Leafs effed this thing up going back an entire year right now to try and find a way to retain Martyr and whether he really just doesn’t want to be a Toronto Maple Leaf which that could be the case maybe there was nothing they could have done in this last calendar year or maybe there is something they could have done to keep Marner around and at the end of the day you look at the way Marner is being treated up in Canada right now by the Toronto fan base you look at the fact that he and I don’t agree with it but he pulled the plug on his charity event because of a multitude of reasons but he did cite his uncertain future I believe as the main reason and I think it was basically he didn’t want to have a blood bath from a bunch of fans up there and I mean again I don’t agree with it but that’s the reality so be it so no I’m not taking the tampering stuff seriously nothing’s going to happen there’s nothing more happening with this than any other free agent if this is where the NHL decides to put their foot down and uh exercise a little bit of power over the Golden Knights what are they going to do now Marner they’re not taking Mner away from Vegas they’re not even going to take away a draft pick they hit They hit him with the what is it a million was it a $5 million fine okay fine give him Give Vegas a $5 million fine folio will laugh as uh Marner becomes a Golden Knight i don’t think anything’s going to happen that’s why I’m blowing it off
okay i don’t believe that it is easy to prove these tampering charges so I’ll side with you there
but if there’s some sort of a witch hunt against Vegas then you have to watch out cuz I’m sure again
this is where the line is drawn after all the stuff and everything i mean no
this is mner or bust season szn for sure and we said at any cost McCrimman was going to get Mner eventually right so
so who knows what those costs were uh so the reports are Marner’s 7-year deal uh times 12 million and what apparently is that’s apparently on the table but 12 million here is worth about the same or even more than a $14 million deal in California due to all those taxes and what have you um so 12 million is a great wage for Vegas um I think he’ll survive here on 12 million a year uh so I think that that’s uh something definitely
cost living has gone up a little bit but I think 12 million is about the number where you can live comfortably in this town not 11 million though 11 million you can’t do it but 12 million that’s the number
that’s why Eel needs a raise um Toronto is moving forward Chris so they signed Matthew Ny six times 7.75 million
that’s big that’s big for Toronto and then John between those two a combined $12.1 million a year only a $1.79% salary increase for those two combi was Kelly McCreman negotiating this deal that’s the tampering charge right there i mean Matthew Ny that he is going to going to be a cornerstone of that organization along with Austin Matthews as time goes on so good for Toronto to shore up that side of their business and that might make the pain of losing Marner a little bit easier as far as when Toronto’s looking up and down their roster looking at the future and everything but again I’m the next I mean I got Twitter open right now i’m keeping an eye on things as we record here

yeah no it’ll be when I’m deep into my card show in about an hour and a half from now and I can’t get off the computer so that’s definitely what’s going to happen but at the end of the day here it’s going to be a lot of fun watching these next 24 hours we’re going to see if Toronto caves in and says “Okay fine we’ll take Nicholas Wah.” Or if Toronto is going to try and see this thing to the end and uh you know cry over spilled milk and sour grapes and any other pun I can think of uh once they lose Martner it’s going to be it’s going to be fun it’s going to be a fun fun 24 hours as it always is

november 11th of 2018 so there I went up to you sort of no that’s good that’s fun right there um so my first perspective about this is it’s a two for one deal uh first of all we knew Nick Hey was gone that was uh and this that was the chalk to exit whether Marner happened or not that was the chalk move that was going to happen number one um you basically are flipping $5.5 million which is what the market of course was for Nicholas Heg for about 4.86 million in laws and and sizens you get a couple of depth pieces you talked about the experience that Citizens has of 690 games uh if he can get to double digits in goals and a and likely a fourthline role that would be great and get into the teen and assist i mean we’re talking a you know a 22 to 25 point player who is going to be consistently out there playing a physical game on the fourth line then I’m in right there uh Lawzen is the bigger question from a health standpoint i don’t know what the injury was but only 28 games played last season lower body
lower body okay well that that really clears it up right there thanks cleared it up for you
um you do have about 86 87 games of familiarity with coach Cassidy back in the Boston Bruins days going back to 1819 and um Lawson even came up through the American League with the Providence Bruins so you have someone that coach Cassidy has familiarity with and again you’re talking likely another bottom pairing responsible defenseman 28 years old so could be around for a little while here in Vegas 225 so he’s I don’t know that’s pretty close to about Nick Heg’s uh height and weight so uh maybe we found the money ball version of Nick Heg
no but this guy hits he’ll hit the snot out of you he hits a lot harder and he’s was up there I think u a season or two ago amongst the top hitters in the NHL uh Kyle Stitch checked in last night from of course AFP analytics
i had speculated on lockdown VGK that this could come in higher than our projection but not this much especially staying in an income tax-free state i couldn’t find comps to come close to justifying this by Nashville nashville emptying the bank there uh good for Nick Hake i don’t know why people are hating on him for getting the bag why

no he’s He’s what a 26-y old just got a $20 million payday over the next uh Well hopefully Nashville pays him on time i don’t know if they’re doing any deferred payments or anything like that but no no issues with Hey at all um this is way beyond market i think it’s way way way way beyond reasonable market as far as VGK was concerned um but again to be fair I think we felt Hey was buried a lot on that third pairing along with Zack Whitecloud it took injuries to Petrangelo to really give Heg a chance to move up and Heg was okay in that role uh he’s not a top defensive pairing i don’t think he’s a good top four guy um who can help out on the top you’re not going to build your team around Nick Heg but he’s a good body to have in any lineup there’s some deficiencies to his game he’s big but he doesn’t necessarily use that strength to to hit as much uh they’ve upgraded VK in that regard

oh I think I agree with the physicality side will will the skill be upgraded we’ll wait and see we’ll wait and see if the skill is upgraded or not but definitely the physicality and there’s not much of a fall-off i think we can agree on that just the difference is the age and the value of a player who’s up and coming versus a player who is a little more likely plateaued right now
lison one year remaining at $2 million citizens one year at 2.86 million and uh it’s going to it’s going to be interesting there so you think Lison will be paired up with White Cloud the way things are looking right now he’ll just slot in there in that same spot right
yeah i mean we we got to talk about Petrangelo in the third as far as what that other gap is what gap’s going to be created too and I don’t think Lawson’s going to go up there or anything like that um but I think definitely bottom four bottom two is the most likely place for him and hopefully he can chip in when needed because there’s going to be injuries and all sorts of things happening and everything cororsac could be another option down there too and it could be Cororac and Lawson that’s just another another possibility and then White Cloud actually winds up moving up mcnab might go to the top pairing with Hannne you split up Theodore and him so there there’s a lot of different paths this could end up going and VK could still add another another blue liner as well that’s the we all know what happens so a lot of people are looking at the return like why $4.86 million why did this happen who who’s Laws who’s Jeremy Law and Colton Siz like who are these guys why these are the types of things that need to happen for the Mitch Martyr deal to work out you have to have depth pieces you have to have pieces in your lineup that make sense as far as filling voids because if if and win or win and if the Golden Knights no if when the Golden Knights do land Mitch Mner now you got a topheavy lineup so you got to moneyball a little bit you got to find some experience and it might not be the prettiest of players as far as the bottom nine and bottom and bottom and bottom two deep pairings go but you need those warm bodies who can play responsible games while you’re letting the top six do their job as far as putting goals you know goals on the board
remember I had asked you if Hurdle was gone if Carlson was gone and now with Wah leaving perhaps it’s almost
a center a center’s going this week a center is going this week center one center will definitely be gone that’s on the bingo card but I was going to ask you know last week we talked about who would be the centers there and I was not sold on W an everyday center even though you disagreed it’s okay
no I’m fine with W an everyday fourthline center but he cannot do anything outside of the fourth line
i think would be better more experience i think the return for Nick Wah in a possible trade is of more value to the Golden Knights organization while you have someone like Sis back there

they got to keep those kids healthy they got to trade them so with VGK signing Riley Smith and Brandon Sad there’s currently around now and then the trade yesterday about 757,000 I think I saw in cap space um and that could go way up now if Alex Petrangelo or you say if or when and I we we say when Alex Petrangelo is put officially on LTIR and uh Nick W’s $3 million contract goes away uh so Mcrimin said in the weekend presser that he had several conversations with Alex Petrangelo and yesterday he said ah we’re waiting for a decision whatever okay yesterday David Pegnata reported that Alex Petrangelo is dealing with serious injuries which we knew plural and will require major surgeries this summer which will result in missing the entire season and perhaps careerthreatening we knew this was coming and we heard the reports of one hip could it be both hips if you’re overcompensating on one hip on one side you can get knee injuries so he’s going to have several surgeries and the fans that said we’re going to miss Petrangelo did not watch this team this past season i’m sorry but he was just laboring every He was a passenger extraordinaire this past season
they’re going to miss the healthy Petrangelo and this is just the emotion and people thinking about what Petrangelo did during the Stanley Cup run before that even after that and yes last season was not pretty for more times than it was good as far as Petrangelo went let’s make sure we’re clear about that but there’s clear reasons as to why this happened hips knees ankles i mean it’s it’s not upper body or lower body it’s just body that’s what’s what’s hurting on Petrangelo right now and the Golden Knights will miss the healthy version of him and they’ll even miss the unhealthy version of him in the locker room as far as leadership and everything like that goes he’s he’s a warrior he’s a leader on and off the ice all of those things are very true now are they going to miss the turnovers the you know a lot of the questionable play and the poor positioning that happened last year of course not but the reason this happened is because of all these injuries and he’s a warrior and I think people need to give Petraelo credit yes I understand it’s the LTIR and everyone’s excited and they see Mitch Martner and you know I get all that but again pitchel would and did give his body to be out there he would do anything he could this is his craft this is all he’s done professionally for you know the last nearly 20 years of his life so I think again the human element is important to reflect on and stuff like this you got to feel for the guy and I wonder how much pain he was going through to help his teammates so that’s my my take away from all this and you certainly hope Petrangelo does get better and can help out this team down the road but if this is curtains for Petrangel that sucks and I feel bad for him

no doubt he’ll be the first
turn down the four nations right he did that um and then of course uh labored in pain that entire second half but at what point you know when you have an aging veteran do you just say “Look man that’s enough.” And I think it cost the team this past season no doubt it cost this team why not put the younger fresher legs into the lineup that is a big big question that I have on my mind well if Petrangelo is healthy enough to put the jersey on and play he plays end the story you’re not going to outright scratch him for Kaden Corzac or Ben Hutton as much as you want Hutton out there um you’re not going to see that scratch ever made now Pitch Rangelo of course we saw like a little bit of a shutdown near the end of the season we saw him skip the fornations and everything then yeah obviously he needs to be out of the lineup but you know Petraelo again I just I’m sticking with the fact that he gave so much to get to this point and 1,087 regular season games 149 playoff games his body has absolutely compounding

no oh and we knew that was going to happen i mean we saw we saw major shifts um well yes and no we saw Mark Stone and Jack Eel’s minutes go down right after the basically March 1st was the time when they started as far as the defensive side we’ve heard Cassidy talk about this i remember um I did ask Cassidy one game during the 23 24 season um it was the first time Petrangelo didn’t cross 20 minutes in a game or something like that and Cassidy blew it off like no it was simply uh had something to do with uh just the team had more power plays and the way the special teams played out and stuff like that so it just worked out where he didn’t play 20 minutes for that particular game so Cassie is always of the mindset if someone is healthy enough to be in the lineup they play there’s no pitch counts there’s no managing a minutes you’re either healthy enough to do your job or you’re not there’s no in between
yeah and do you think that I think sometimes Cassidy puts too much faith in the players because again you had
what else can you do as the coach trust your guys who got you there Stone and Eel rather than officially going look guys you need the rest shut them down he said no I’m going to ask the players if they of course the players want to play this isn’t the NBA where they’re always
they’re professionals they can make their own decisions
let me ask you this too so an official announcement Petrangelo to LTIR will that be directly will it be right after our show is recorded or will it be at 11:06 p.m pacific time tonight that I Why the late night news dumps around here this is unbelievable this is something that is their MMO at VGK
i’m going to go with uh noon 30 and a hook as far as uh the announcement for Pitch Rangelo or maybe it happens about 8:30 p.m tonight when it is a little bit quiet right could you imagine i don’t know what the official time I don’t know if Free HD opens like at midnight or 7 a.m

i would I wouldn’t be surprised if the Petrangela News came sometime late tonight to try and dodge a little bit of um the the the show that would that would con that would that’s going to happen i mean social media is going to be an absolute uh popcorn fest uh the second that announcement comes you know again at the end of the day though stop we don’t don’t forget the human element this isn’t Petrangelo saying “I’m going to miss the entire season so the Golden Knights can put me on LTIR and I’ll come back you know I’ll start skating in February of Ander Kane style i’ll start skating in February and I’ll make sure I’m back by game one or game two of the playoff.” Like I don’t think that’s what’s happening in Petrangelo’s mind here i don’t think it’s what’s happening in the Golden Knights mind if it works out like that so be it but at the end of the day Petrangelo isn’t just saying “I’m going to take the season off.” That’s not who Petrangelo is
well we knew that the news was coming why were fans in shock yesterday and we knew that this was going to be happening and why didn’t the uh Golden Knights get ahead of things and make this announcement sooner so that it came from the club because it’s probably not official yet it’s respect for the player as well and obviously what Pegnata I think is the one who’s champion championing this right now so you know he has enough meat on the bone to put it out there and Pegnata is a good source so if he’s putting it out there it’s likely happening um or the Golden Knights told Pegnata said hey why don’t you just say a little something you know I mean like we know how this how the media can be used as pawns to get things out there we’ve seen it for not just the Golden Knights but for all teams when it comes to rumor season and things like that so this is probably something internally put out there if I had to guess
of course tomorrow will be the first day of free agency that is July the 1st and so a lot’s going to happen right there’s going to be So what happens
