Don’t like the right side
I know y’all are saying I am huffing copium but there are basically no puck moving RHDs on the market. Severson actually has value to be moved if it needs to come to that. Everyone is basically looking for one of those. Wait a week and someone is gonna get desperate.
would be hard not to be disappointed if we enter the season with this + Elvis
They say it takes about 2 years to get the hang of a defensive structure.
I don’t think we’ve ever had anyone stay in the team long enough with the same coaching staff for anything to be consistent.
That might help.

Now that you ask it, i’m actually feeling quite bad about this defense!
Sevo is gonna continue to hurt this team for several years still

Paying Damon Severson and Ivan Provorov $14.75M till 2030 honestly makes me sick. That’s going to back and bite us in the ass one way or another.
Given the back 2/3s of last season, its probably going to look more like:
Z-fab
Denton-prov
Someone-severson/gudbranson
Considering Florida has resigned Bennett, Ekblad and Marchand, it really doesn’t matter now, I would not be surprised in the least bit if they win 2 more , this team is just a bug on the windshield 😂
For the people saying that Severson won’t be around long because of a buyout, if they buy him out after this season, he’s on the books for 10 years. All the way to the spring/summer of 2036. To me, I just don’t see our ownership paying a guy a decade to not play for them.
The only decent scenario I see, and I put it at like 5% because GMDW famously only likes hockey trades, is somehow we trade him and picks/prospects to get him off our books. He could, of course, light the world on fire and become one of the best right handed D in the league, I put that at about 1%. All that being said I think Damon is around for a good while.
Is Provy on the left side the plan? I doubt our future plans keep Mateychuk on the 3rd pair but I would be good with this lineup for this year if Severson steps up.
Gavrikov makes this look a whole lot better.
THE actual depth is Z then Fabbro then mateychuk then provy then a bag of pucks, a 40 yr old plumber who cant skate, the badbransen and sevo

Thought we all agreed that Provorov-Severson should NEVER happen again.
And then we have Christiansen and whomever else at the bottom. Not good.
Basically comes down to Severson doing anything at all. As the articles always point out to his skillset. That’s a costly not impressive second line.

Anyone know if Provy’s contract has NMC? Upside is he’s a trade-able asset (that would’ve gone for more money or term) rather than someone that just walked in free agency. I could see DW doing a mid season trade package.
Get Elvis out of there and we might be decent, not great, but decent
We spent last season complaining about severson contract so they went out and did it again with provorov
Well its the same as last year so eh. Obviously Werenski is great and Fabbro was a solid partner for him so the 1st pair is good. After that I assume Mateychuk and Provorov will be on the 2nd pair which was never amazing last year so hopefully Mateychuk takes a step forward as Provorov is what he is at this point (Also we really have to hope he doesn’t decline too bad in his 30s or that contract will end horrific). For the Third pair we have a choice between Gudbranson and Severson on the Right which of the two I will go against the grain in this thread and say I would prefer Severson (Although what I would really prefer is Severson to be traded so we don’t have two long term overpaid contracts in the defense). Finally on the left side we have Christensen with guys like Svozil and Hunt who could maybe fight their way up and get some playing time there.
Well we better hope they improve from within because other than Gudbranson we’re stuck with the other 5 for quite sometime.
Can’t believe we spent two 1st round picks on Jiricek and Ceulemans to improve that right side and one got traded for peanuts and the other just didn’t develop at all.
I’m feeling 🤷♂️ specifically about the defense. I think the addition of coyle will help protect the defense. Being able to win more defensive zone face offs will help lighten the load on the whole defense. Biggest question is to me is in net. Yes jet looked good in the games he played but can he shoulder the 1a load, will Elvis become a distraction and/or sour the locker roam because he’s no longer number 1? I know the goalie market is even weaker than defense but I think the team should buyout Elvis.
