So about the Gibson trade…
john Gibson’s asked for a trade and I’ve reported that and he’s said “I am not playing another game for the Anaheim Ducks.”
Wow 65 games and 726 days later
after years of trade rumors and speculation John Gibson is no longer an Anaheim Duck orange County’s finest spent his entire career with the team after being drafted in 2011 he leads as the Ducks all-time leader in games played by a goalie with 506 posting a 910 save percentage a 2.89 goals against average with 24 shutouts he finishes with 204 wins just three short of passing JS’s franchise record of 206 unless he somehow comes back
where do you go from here
i’m going to go home but that’s not happening and to be honest that’s probably how it should be gibson will go down as one of the best goalenders the Ducks have ever had but Jiggy deserves to hold that top spot just a little bit longer hopefully DS will pass him one day right gibson’s NHL debut came on April 7th 2014 in Vancouver where he earned an 18 save shutout not bad for your first game just weeks later he was called upon in the second round of the playoffs against the Kings and another shutout in his first postseason game eventually starting game seven as a 20-year-old but we don’t talk about that one from there Gibson’s career felt like it split into two eras first came the early success sharing the Williams Jennings Trophy with Frederick Anderson earning VZA Trophy votes and making multiple all-star appearances then came the grind a stretch of losing where his numbers suffered under the way of carrying some of the worst defensive teams in recent NHL history for Giby’s time as a Duck it feels like a career of whatifs just imagine if he hit his prime in 2015 17 not just entering the league the timing was never right when the ducks were good he was young and injured and when they were bad he could only carry them so much to this day I still believe that Gibson had been traded instead of Anderson all those years ago he’d have a Vzna by now and honestly the lease might even have a cup with Ziggris and Al Gibson traded in the same league and Fowler dealt earlier in the season it truly feels like an end of an error gibson was the last remaining piece of some semblance of successful Ducks hockey troy Terry who played just two games in 2017 not in the playoffs is now the longest tenure duck followed by McTavish definitely a sad day but ultimately a fresh start was needed for Gibson too you could tell his heart wasn’t really in it anymore and I can’t really blame him for that i don’t know if that fresh start will be good in Detroit i mean at least he’s closer to home he didn’t really have an option detroit wasn’t on his 10 team no trade clause but in my own opinion it’s not like Gibson is really going to that much better of a situation to win but at least he’s going to a place that has needed a number one goalie for a long time so I hope he’s able to do what he did last year obviously with more games played definitely going to miss him as far as the deal itself goes it does feel a little light especially considering Fique was reportedly holding out for two first round picks just last year that said I actually feel much better about this trade than the Ziger steel no salary retention is a big win so the lesser value picks are easier to swallow morazzic seems like a pretty solid backup kind of hard to evaluate too harshly given the teams he’s played for in recent years just like Gibby but he and Dossi share that Czech connection and even won the world championship together two years ago so on paper it seems like a great fit the Ducks saved just over 2 million in cap space this year with Morazzic set to become a UFA after this season that gives the Ducks more flexibility especially with Somi RFA’s next offseason they’ve already used that money to resign Huso which I’m actually really happy about he was pretty good in limited games last year and helped turn things around for the goals in San Diego with Morazz’s injury history having depth is a big plus too it’s kind of funny that the trade was announced during the draft even though it had no effect on this year’s picks both selections are for future drafts forbique said that Morazzic is expected to play around 30-ish games i never want to see Dosy over 50-ish games hopefully we’ve learned from past organization mistakes and won’t run our goalies into the ground like we did with Gibson this move clearly shows that the Ducks are handing the reigns to Dossi as they should who set career highs in both wins and games played last season he is also a pending RFA but Pv says he’s working on that and while a long-term deal always seemed likely this trade all but confirms it right mentally I think this could be a huge win for Dossi he played well enough last season to be the full-time starter albeit some mishaps here and there but Gibson’s presence meant he sat for some stretches even though he clearly was ready to go again goalies crave rhythm and routine and this type of clarity should help him thrive all in all I like the deal but part of me always feels like he’s helping out his old buddy Steve Eiserman we’ll see either way it’s finally time for Dossi’s time to shine thank you to our members if you enjoyed the video like and subscribe thank you for watching and go ducks it’s another routine night give me that boy
John Gibson is no longer an Anaheim Duck after over a decade with the team. He leaves just three wins shy of tying Jean-Sébastien Giguère’s franchise record, closing the book on an era of Ducks hockey. The trade clears the way for Lukáš Dostál to take over as the team’s starting goalie, with Mrazek coming in as a solid veteran backup. While the return feels light, Verbeek kept Gibson’s full salary off the books and gained cap flexibility. It’s a bittersweet farewell—but one that signals a fresh start for both sides. #nhl #anaheimducks #redwings #johngibson

Verbeek is FUCKING up
Personally, I'm more bummed about this trade than I am about Zegras's. And yes, part of it is sentimental, as I've watched and cheered for Gibson from 2013. But I also don't really see how this makes us better on the ice. Goaltending tandem was the only thing that worked really well last year and now we're already moving away from it? And for Mrazek, who is even bigger injury prone than Gibson? Also, isn't Husso basically a write off at this point? Why are we giving 3rd goalie more than 2 mil AAV contract? Who would give him that kind of money after 3 bad seasons? Who would give him more than a league min at this point anyway? The fact that he played like 3 good games for us isn't exactly relevant sample size.
Great vid.
The tade is …fine….on paper, its what you should expect given all the surrounding stuff like injuries and contracts. Ducks didn't get more or less than they should have….its the timing that's terrible. Now the Ducks have zero leverage in the negotiations with Dostal. And if Dostal asks for 8 mil per year for 8 years, the Ducks have to give it to him because there aren't any other goal tenders out there and there won't be. Exact same issue that they are going to have after the Z trade with MacT.
leafs could have a cup and the chuckle in the end made me giggle xD
He should have been traded years ago, to a real team. A team with a functional defense to show the world that he's a great goalie. He should have gone to Edmonton and be the big change they needed to win the cup. I love Gibby but damn this trade keeps bad. Doesn't even look like we're getting Marner either so what's Verbeek gonna do? overpay for a bum?
Im a Bruins fan but the Ducks are my favorite team in the West. You have amazing coverage, keep it up. Good luck to Gibby, Mrazek is a good backup, he'll do well.
Quitter Gauthier
Plannin on going to the dev camp today? Unsure if they will allow streaming but I hope they do
So with Husso just being signed for another 2 yrs at 2,2 million AAV. Does this indicate that Dostal is actually included in a package deal to land a big UFA/RFA like Marner?
Hope not.
Let’s go hockey
I will miss Gibson.
I always liked him
This has been a toooooough offseason
Gibson hopefully no longer has to worry about making 40+ saves a game and still end up taking the loss. It'll be interesting to see what they do with $35M in cap space.
I think we as Ducks fans hold a lot of value in the players. Some sentimental too. But in reality, our team has been really bad and trading for our players probably doesn’t instill a lot of confidence in other GMs. So my opinion we’re getting fair value for Z and Gibby.
:10 😂😂😂😂😂
All these moves. If we suffer another blank in FA'cy like last season. Fire Beeker.
Yeah, Gibson spent his career in the wrong place at the wrong time. But he made a very large pile of cash in Anaheim, far more than his value the past few years of his contract in O.C.
sad to see Gibby go but it will be nice to see a familiar face in goal with the wings
Where's Suchanek? he was great , is back from injury yet? I know VB has a hard on for the giant Clara to eventually be Dostal backup
Are you going to be at the Dev Camp?
He will succeed anywhere he goes, he held that team alot of times when defence was no where to be found, he will do amazing anywhere.
Surprised Edmonton didn't try an take him lol they need a great goalie
Keeping my expectations low for next season. Such a bummer of an offseason so far.
Lifelong wings fan, and fan of your work — i wanted to know your thoughts on this immediately lol. All I could think was "Duck my life is going to be even more depressed"
I remember Gibson was the first top tier American goalie in quite a while when he first came up
Seriously, what are the Ducks doing? Are they making these bad deals in order to clear cap space to sign some big name players in free agency? Otherwise, I don't get it. And who'd even want to come to Anaheim now?
Have we not considered that maybe John Gibson didn’t want to play for someone that enabled Brad Aldrich?
as a red wings fan thank you
Verbeek seems like hes back into a corner and doesnt really have a plan beside get cap space. But now with marner to vegas and alot more top guys getting signed up quick, what is the move now. We dont need more over pays on vets like killorn and strome. I dont see us getting big pieces that are going to move the needle this season. Looking forward to the race to .500 again.
Sad to see him go, absolute legend.
Always love a good leafs jab
