flood the comments let us know your thoughts on the game there’s a chance I’ll respond to your comments i’ve been trying to be better at that and uh you know we already got a question here from Jamie who do you keep at the deadline i think it’s a great question Jamie and I uh I’ve all I’ve tried to preface this those kind of questions and I I appreciate the comment Jamie those kind of questions are great for Jack’s mailbags my postcasts are more so just for live reaction of the games as a whole little bit of long-term thoughts on it maybe short-term thoughts but my shows are pretty much just for reaction to the game but Jamie I know you’re a Royals fan and all of you are Royals fans jack does great content in his regularly scheduled Locked on Royals podcast he does a mail mailbag Friday every Friday i know he always appreciates those questions so those questions are great for Jack and uh you know maybe I’ll be able to come come back and answer that question Jamie if it’s a pretty slow show um but yeah this was another dreadful offensive performance for the Royals um uh it felt like from the I think it was the the third inning yeah third inning they scored the run took the lead from that point on it was the offense just never found any kind of rhythm they didn’t have very good abs against George Kirby and I understand the sorry I understand the numbers for George Kirby don’t pop yet this season he had a 54 coming in but he was injured um I I didn’t mind the Royals ABS george Kirby’s a really really good pitcher i mean he is the closest thing and this is this is maybe an exaggeration but it’s more so his walks and strikeout numbers but there was a time last year when he was in like Greg Maddox territory he doesn’t walk anybody he throws a bunch of strikes and he throws hard and that’s two things the Royals have struggled with doing this season i just don’t know what to what to make of of this performance offensively because they just didn’t do much george Kirby kind of carved him up with a really good slider he had Bobby chasing a couple times jack Kaggleon had a couple his at bat I think it was his second at bat where he was ahead three and 0 kirby comes back and paints a couple of really tough uh two seamers right on the inner half of the plate i mean just running right off his hands into the zone you know two really tough pitches to hit and you’re kind of you’re drowning after that and uh so the Royals offense once again in a lull and that leads us into our first segment here’s what you’ll be talking about this is what you’ll be talking about just another really putrid offensive performance four hits five base runners against this Mariners team in this Mariners’s pitching staff and they only got I think they only got what six innings out of George Kirby uh really really bad offensive performance and really none of the abs were that competitive um I I really am getting tired of coming on here and seeing singledigit hits even less than five um we knew this was going to be a really tough series with the Mariners i mean you line up the guys that they’re throwing this week and I know they missed Luis Castillo who’s kind of their so and you know quote unquote ace but Brian Woo is legit has a fast ball that pops uh Logan Gilbert same way really good slider and Emerson Hancock is a former first round pick uh that has got a ton of uh prospect pedigree coming up through that system so the Royals are going to get some really tough pitching um and they did not barrel a whole lot of balls tonight george Kirby was really good at picking apart different sides of the plate his sinker slider combo is vicious i mean it is like Brady Singer on steroids in terms of the movement the command and the velocity um he was really good tonight i mean just pinpoint command he was hitting spots all night long that was his best outing of the season and it comes at a time where the Royals were needing some life um I said yesterday I would be shocked if Alex Zumalt was still the hitting coach i’m I am honestly what you’ll be talking about is the fact that they didn’t do jack they didn’t do anything after this home stand and I’m honestly like I can feel my blood pressure rising right now after they didn’t do anything after this home stand to change this offense i mean not even a lineup change didn’t adjust the hitting coach didn’t send anybody down bring anybody up i mean you would have thought that they split the home stand three for three um but instead they go one and five with one hit in with runners in scoring position against the Rays i know they’ve played a little bit better against the Dodgers but still issues arise i don’t even know what to say anymore it’s It’s getting to be ridiculous like at some point changes have to be made and maybe at some point maybe at some point they’ll say “Hey we’re heading into the All-Star break we’ll make changes then.” But I just don’t know what the plan is i don’t I I don’t understand what the plan is for this team going into this next stretch of games they’re on a West Coast road trip against teams that are fighting for their lives in their respective wildcard races you look at the American League wild card race the Royals are in seventh or no they’re not even in seventh they’re in like eighth so the Royals aren’t even sniffing a wild card spot they got many teams to overcome all teams that I think have better rosters top to bottom than the Royals and they aren’t doing anything and I think that maybe they are maybe they are waiting for the all-star break so they can you know really overhaul it a little bit but um man I I just don’t know how you do what you did last week at the K and you sit on your hands and do nothing i mean I I was I was filling in for a couple of our shows today on ESPN Witchaw and I went back and looked the Royals have used fewer B they have used the second fewest batters this season they have not been like rotating guys in and out they’ve used 39 total batters this season that’s nothing they’ve not been very transactional um and they continue to not be so I don’t know what the next step is i don’t know what their plan is like most of the time I was at least able to understand here’s the plan here’s the outlook but I just don’t understand i mean I don’t I don’t get it i don’t get it how you can’t make any changes after that series and I think that’s what I’ll be talking about tomorrow when I have to host the pulse on ESPN Witchaw and uh Tony chiming in um I’m having a hard time buying any of these opposing pitchers having good games this team makes every pitcher look good well George Kirby’s really good he’s had a rough start to the season because he’s injured um I I understand the frustration george Kirby’s a good pitcher now the Royals are getting a freaking loaded pitching staff for the Mariners who are one of the best starting pitching staffs in baseball so I understand the frustration Tony i’m in the same boat but I don’t think that they were going to hit George Kirby tonight that was not going to happen but man they didn’t look like they understood what was coming at all um the offense continues to be dreadful but uh yeah this is this is getting to be ridiculous that we’re coming on these postcasts every time and talking about um talking about this again uh Parker says “This drought is not Jack’s fault it’s everyone’s.” Agreed there’s nine guys in that lineup and honestly the three guys under Jack um I get it rave had a hit and Isbel had a hit but Rave had an infield hit and Isbel his hit was pretty uh relatively unimpressive um the bottom three in the lineup continues to be a hole drew Waters stinks um it’s the Drew Waters experiment is over um yeah I I don’t know geom says “How do you feel on India?” Um and then uh Buccaneer Bruce says “Believe Jonathan India has a very real problem in the locker room.” I mean I I don’t understand that i I don’t know if we have I don’t know if we have any sources or anything but I mean I I don’t know if I’d say he’s a problem in the locker room he seems to be wellliked um but he’s he’s been part of winning baseball in the past and I like Jonathan India um he’s not a guy like if you cut bait with Jonathan India who are you replacing him with cam Dey who’s going to hit 180 just like John Rae like what are we doing here i think that Jonathan India is just fine given the position he’s in um he’s got no protection in the lineup never hits with runners on base always leading off innings um I like Jonathan India i have I’ll die on the hill that Jonathan India is a valuable piece of this Royals team but um I do I will agree that he’s been fairly uh fairly disappointing uh Tony Atkins says “Is there an advanced scouting problem as well?” Um at some point uh you know you can scout all you want but it comes down to the hitters actually having to make plays you have to the hitters have to be good you have to hit the ball that’s pitched to you i don’t give a rat’s behind how well your scouting is if you can’t perform when the lights are the brightest when the lights are actually on so um great question in the comments guys keep them coming uh tonight and tomorrow will be uh very pretty much all week i will uh kind of lean on you guys uh for some comments because these are late nights uh for me where you know I’m already hosting a show this week uh at my full-time job so it’s a little bit repetitive but I appreciate you guys hopping in the comments and giving me something to talk about but when we come back we’ll talk about the dreadful June that the Royals had a June to forget and maybe talk about what is coming up next for the Royals and what things that they can do to improve this team going forward that’s coming up next on the Royals Post on the Locked On Podcast Network summer sports are in full swing and whether you’re all about baseball under the lights golf on the ended I believe they finished the the month of June i I had it in my notes today uh they finished the month of June obviously they were really bad um at home this month one and 12 at home uh sorry a little bit delayed here the Royals finished June at 8 and 18 they played themselves out of a playoff spot they got a ton of teams to overcome that I don’t think they’ll be able to um so I think they are very much selling i said it after yesterday’s game that was the end um I I I just don’t know what the answer is going forward i think that it’s a good thing the month of June is over maybe they’ll be able to turn it around but this is the worst month from a try a potentially competitive Royals team we’ve seen since August of 2017 and they just flat out sucked this month um at the plate um this is I I was doing some research today in preparation for this show and my other show but the Royals as a team lead Major League Baseball in fly ball rate so hitting more balls in the air than anybody else in baseball they also lead the league in the amount of those fly balls that are hit that are infield popups they don’t get the ball of the infield they haven’t all season this is a uh in Major League Baseball in 2025 it is a true three outcome sport walks strikeouts and home runs the Royals are dead last in walks and home runs you can’t win baseball games doing that you have to at least have a little bit of power and I think we saw a little bit of pop today from the Royals i mean I understand it wasn’t a great outing george Kirby’s really tough to hit he’s a ground ball guy they didn’t get any extra bases but man I just I understand that it’s frustrating because you know I I don’t love talking about this and how bad they’ve been i hope at some point they’re able to turn it around um but man this is just a this has been really bad recently um somebody brings up some free agents they should take a look at none of those guys are are really helping this team they’d be better than our current outfield options i mean who at some at what point does it even matter i mean you might as well find out what Drew Waters is going to look like for next season so you have an idea why would you waste a roster spot on any of those guys really i mean I I understand wanting to improve the roster but let’s just be honest let’s be realistic about this team they’re not going to make a playoff spot this season they’re going to sell off pieces they are going to look for 2026 and none of those guys that were listed are going to help in 2026 um but this is a team that is probably going to look to move off of some of their arms i talked about it yesterday um I don’t think anybody on that pitching staff other than Cole Reagan’s and Noah Cameron and Lucas Ersig should be off limits um that’s kind of my thought uh Tony who can I really appreciate it tony says “What do you know about Be Bjan Rodomacher the AAA hitting coach?” Um honestly nothing i I I don’t really know too much about him i couldn’t speak on him but I think that there needs to be a true overhaul of organizational philosophy at the at the plate and I think that honestly that comes with promoting Ke Duran potentially to full-time hitting coach or I at this point I don’t even know what they need to do because they have so many so many cooks in the kitchen at the major league level there’s really not a point in firing anybody at this point i get it alex Zumalt is kind of the target that everybody has their eye their you know their sight on but I I think they just need to wait not wait but there needs to be a full search for an organizational overhaul in hitting philosophy this off season and I don’t think they’re going to get that by you know bring having Kone Duran be the interim hitting coach and then he does so well or creates relationships with the guys that they’re like we’d like him to be the hitting coach next year and then it’s a vicious cycle all over again so if there was a reason why they haven’t fired Alex Zumalt yet it’s that they don’t want to waste time with an interim they’d rather wait until the off seasonason and be able to potentially be able to just restart hit the reset button with the offensive philosophy as a coaching staff throughout the minor leagues because it hasn’t been great at any level we’ve seen guys like Gavin Cross truly regress um a ton of guys just have not developed as batters and I think that’s a that’s a indictment on I don’t know if I’d say the organization but I mean there’s obviously some trends that are not good right now so I understand the frustration because I have to do this and it’s not fun to come on here and you know throw up the white flag every single night but yeah this is this has been really tough for the Royals um I I understand that there’s a lot of games left to be played but they’re halfway through the season and they are now 39 and 46 they’re seven games under 500 they’re not making it out of that hole unless they make some serious changes which I don’t see on the horizon so um hopefully at some point they’re able to win a game in this Seattle series to give us some you know late night ju guuju to talk about but for now I am going to hit my uh my sleepy time tea and my baseball mug because I’m ready to go to bed and I know some of you are too i appreciate you guys for tuning in in this to be even worse so I appreciate you guys for tuning in live if you are not tuning in live if you’re listening to this after the fact please please come to the YouTube page subscribe to the channel 1. If Q won't fire Zum , than Q has to go. Yost is in the organization. Let him take over as the interim manager and get these guys guys back to basics

  2. what are these pathetic losers waiting for so firing people wont help at this point so what do it anyway ,doesnt sherman care what the hell is he on another planet or what

  3. "Outslugged?" I don't think that's the word you want to use there.
The Royals didn't do any slugging. They're incapable of it.

  4. Why are royals fans like buccaneer bruce? You dont think india is liked in the locker room? You think the locker room is mad at the guy who is statically the 4th best hitter on the team?
