that fast ball at the bottom of the zone can be very effective just got to keep it on the corners and there at the knees and it’s on two i mean that’s perfect location right on the black over and over again this guy demonstrates the ability to hit those spots they’re so tough to do anything with as a hitter swings through and that’s a strike down and he’ll be beating himself up on the way back to the dugout got a pitch to hit and just couldn’t get to it i think that slider really caught way more the plate than it was supposed to now here’s Bobby Wit Jr this guy is one of the best athletes in the sport and that’s a base hit so a man aboard now with one away just so sound in his mechanics hits against a firm front side
and the hands just continue to carry through the middle of the field
and next up for the Royals Mike El Garcia swings through that one 0 and one [Applause] man at first one away check swing and he went 0 and two

sing this lineup has the benefit of playing behind a great pitching staff they’ve got a really low ERA
yeah and you know with that said there’s not as much pressure on the offense but make no mistake about it players want to hit the ball hard and they want to score runs they want to jog around the bases hitting the ball over the fence so regardless of how dominant the staff can be the attitude is we want to go out there and have some fun with the bat so we’ll see one big inning in this one you know could be all they need but you’d like to have multiple big innings

this is one of the best teams in the league when it comes to drawing walks Chris so we’ll probably see a very patient approach from them
yeah Boo and that’s often uh what leads to a lot of runs scored you get runners on base you work that pitch count up for the opposing pitchers and then you take advantage when they make mistakes you get into that bullpen you can tell that everyone up and down this lineup just comes in with a great plan of attack a lot of patience just like you said swinging a foul straight back foul ball one out base is empty ground ball left side and it goes just foul here’s the O2 that one almost got him straighten him up a little bit

now it’s Randy Rosarena possibly thinking about home run number 100 here he’s just one shy of that milestone that one’s in there 0 and one a Rosarena needs just one more homer to reach 100 in the big leagues yeah making it to a 100 homers would be quite the career accomplishment for him out of the more than 20,000 players to take an at bat in the majors less than 5% have ever hit 100 dingers [Applause] next pitch misses now one and two [Applause] gets a piece there we’ll do it again [Applause] foul ball still a one and two count

and now the catcher comes up to him freddy Fine check swing and he went 01 no balls one strike two gone but the go-ahead run is at first here in the top of the second swing and a base hit throw in holds the lead runner at second two on now with two away

Singy he’s a guy that covers both sides of the plate about as well as anyone in the sport how difficult is that to do
well just look at the back of my bubblegum card you’ll see how hard it is these guys are great man they have the ability to look out there but also to be able to turn on the inside pitch those that can really sharpen things on the outer half those are the ones that become elite top of the zone for cold strike cuts and misses it’s a strike out

jonathan here’s something cool Boo when they finished building T-Mobile Park back in 1999 they actually opened it up in the middle of the season i remember as a rookie with the Chicago White Socks we opened the season at the Kingdome and then when we came back later in the year we were playing at T-Mobile Park it’s a beautiful place great scenery from center field and I always enjoyed playing here hoo he never moved cuz he never had time to but that kind of velocity you’d prefer that pitcher work away next offering in there for a strike and it’s two and one just missed

yeah he was part of a really good crop of shortstops bobby was the first one taken but CJ Abrams Bryson Scott Anthony Vulpe and Gunnar Henderson were also part of that draft class how good is that pretty pretty good that misses the zone and that’s ball two base is empty one away and we’re in the top of the fifth slider right there

well this is a guy that can be frustrating for pitchers because he fouls off so many pitches and grinds out the at bat i’m sure there’s sometimes where a pitcher would rather just give up a first pitch single than have to waste six or seven pitches on one hitter 2-2 now just misses the mark outside the zone well he’s not afraid to fall into a two- strike count knows the strike zone very well so much so that I think umpires will look at him and determine whether it’s a ball or strike if he swings or not foul ball and it remains a full count pitcher having a pretty tough time getting that swing and miss third foul ball in a row strike him out looking with the off speed stuff mariners are down in order they’re still down it’s two zip and welcome back to the ballpark at the plate jack

and this is an important part of this game tight score and still a lot of outs to get so they’re looking for a big outing out of him right here to get some critical outs cal Raleigh up next for the Mariners one for two this guy one of the best defensive catchers going you talk about framing the ability to block catch and throw he is at the top of the game mariners and that’s in there at the knees for a strike
really good athlete and many times we talk about you know the feet of infielders this catcher as well really quick feet he’s able to recognize the pitch see the trajectory and get into a spot where he can block those balls and keep them from going to the back stop outside low and that’s ball one really impressive with the way he frames the way that he sets it up because sometimes those pitches are off the plate but because he sets up and presents it so well he still strikes for his pitcher that’s down and in and as well lots of pop in that bat so you combine the slug with really good defense that one misses and the count’s full that’s a good at bat right there he was down early in that plate appearance works the walk
you know I think he’s okay with that outcome it wasn’t an intentional walk but he wasn’t exactly trying to attack the zone either now this guy’s definitely looking for a big swing of the bat right here try to close that gap but you know at the very least if you could find a way to manufacture that run from first it feels like it’s really important to getting back into this ball game ripped to third quickly to second for one double play they can’t seem to break through inning over so they go quietly there seventh inning coming up it’s the Royals three and the Mariners nothing now pitching for
new pitcher for the Mariners Matt Brat well the ERA tells you pretty much all you need to know under one he’s been fantastic coming out of the pin so here’s the cleanup hitter Vinnie Pasquantino 0 for three in this one
pasquantino that one finds the zone it’s 0 and one well these Royals digging into their numbers have to be happy with the swings they’re taking we’ve heard lots of loud noise coming from their bats in this one haven’t we i mean they’ve logged six hits at 90 plus exit velocity and that doesn’t happen by accident and it’s fouled off they’ll do it again swings through him for the K chase the basketball up the ladder for strike three
well you see him trying to pull that inside pitch right there and that’s not the kind of approach that you want to have even if you do get to it it’s going to be very difficult to keep it fair you’re just going to make it a long strike at best you have to be able to stay within the baseball on the inside of that path to it and that way if you’re a little quick the ball gets hit hard somewhere and it’s not foul
