A’s vs. Rays Game Highlights (7/1/25) | MLB Highlights
Things in the AL East are getting really tight. The Rays are going to be one game back of the Yankees, but only a half game ahead of the Blue Jays.
And isn’t it fascinating to think about where the Rays were probably 30 35 games ago. Over the last 35 games, they have made this so interesting. I’ve never watched the leaderboard this early.
Right-hander Shane Boss making the 17th start of the season. Record of 8 and3 RA of 437. That last start was against the Royals in Kansas City. He went eight shut out innings, just allowed three hits, a walk, struck out nine. Did that all on 97 pitches. Lawrence Butler to lead things off for the Athletics. And right away, it’s going to be a single for Lawrence Butler getting on base. And the A’s offense picking up where they left off last night. And that’ll bring up Brent Rooker sliding up in the lineup in the absence of Jacob Wilson.
And he got the strike out there. Attempt to check by Rooker. He went around. He did. And Dwayne, this isn’t even the best curve ball you’re going to see. I mean, he yanks this one right into the ground, but because it has so much depth as far as coming out of the hand up near the belt, Rooker just could not help himself.
Now, Shay Langelers hitting third doing the catching and that is strike three. Well, he got him looking at the hard stuff. Here’s Nick Curts 0 for two last night. Couple walks. He had a cut and miss. Van left at third. He strikes out three in the inning and the A’s strand a runner at third and we’re through half an inning. Familiar face but a different place for Jeffrey here at George Steinbrunner Field. Spent the last four seasons with Tampa and had a nice welcome back yesterday on the video board.
Junior Camaro to the plate starting the night at 259 with 21 home runs.
22 strike three.
He got him looking change up and then got a fast ball at 93 and springs from his full wind up. First pitch to Morell is lost into deep left center field. Back to the wall it goes and it’s one- nothing Rays. Off the scoreboard in left center field. Morell with a solo homer and the Rays take a one- nothing lead. A blast on the first pitch and Morell hits his seventh home run of the year and he jumped all over that pitch and the Rays break out in front.
Max Schuman getting some work in at shortstop today. Schuman a right-handed hitter 224 home run. Five runs batted in 85 at bats.
Oh, and how about dropping that one in that knuckle curve. Strike three call.
Just completely froze Schuman right at the top of the zone. Not exactly where you expect the knuckle curve, but it didn’t matter. Set up by the previous fast ball and Schuman just could not pull the trigger.
Butler with a single and a double. A big hit in the ninth inning of last night’s game. And a swing and miss. Comes back to get him with the four seamer. this time with 99 up. So 100ks this year for Butler and Bos with his fifth tonight.
So Curtis Me from Adelaide, Australia, stole a base in the first inning. Is up again.
Here’s the pitch and it’s served out to right field. Lawrence to the ground and a catch for Butler.
Talk about a great read, a great initial jump for Lawrence Butler. Plays like this, you have to make that decision quickly off the bat. It was a bit of a half swing from me and Law Dog having to create a little angle for himself. Comes up with a clean clay. The left-hander very appreciative. Brandon Laauo popped up to short his first turn on the first pitch he saw. Oh, high shot deep to right. I mean deep. And that ball is gone. A towering shot off the back of Brandon Lao. His 19th home run. And the Rays will pick up their second run.
Make that a 17g game hit streak. Shay Langelers and Shay to center field. This ball’s going. This ball’s back and off the wall. Shay’s going to head into second. Throw coming in. It’s a stand up double for Shay Lingalers. Well,
you see where they want the fast ball elevated and they got it there. Problem is, old Bangalers seeing the ball very well with his return from the injured list. This one maybe about a a half a Chandler Simpson away from a homer.
See what Muny can do with two outs
to Muny. A fly ball to deep right center going back for it and at the wall and game is tied at two. Maxy has hit it out.
Ties up the game with one swing. Sixth homer on the year. It is two to two.
How about Munch with a little backside boogie and that’s exactly what happens when you can extend the inning. Here’s Colobby Thomas bounced into a 34 double play in the second.
He swings it one. That is his first major league hit. The ball traveling into left and make it for extra bases. A double for Kobby Thomas. Get that baseball back
with the pass list in the house. Pumped up. Your first big league knock.
Shay Langalers will lead it off here for the green and gold. And Shay out to left. This is traveling back carrying Christopher Morell there. A homer for Shay Langalers. Backto back days and the A’s are happy he’s back. Take the lead 3 to2.
Bangalers bombs away. 88 mph wrinkle that got ironed out by the back stop. And just another monster blast.
Luis one for one. A walk and a single.
Oh, that’s a strike. He got him looking. 98 right there. Froze him. And that’s out number two. And a very big out with that man in second base.
Boy, no kidding. The fast ball ends up working its way down and in. And Aras just cannot pull the trigger. Too much velocity.
Colobby Thomas. He got him. He hit 99 with that fast ball right there. Justin Sterner, the new pitcher with Aronda Pinch hitting. hitting from Morell
to center field. Denzel Clark going back to the track. Denzel Clark at the wall at leap up at Denzel makes another catch. Runner moving up to third. Sterner giving a shout out to his center fielder. Well, we’re going to get a look at whether or not this ball may have been a souvenir. You see Denzel kind of having to reroute eventually leaps up. That ball was not going to leave the yard, but it was going to be trouble. Should it have come down in any other place outside of the glove of Denzel Clark, but wouldn’t you know it, Jenny, the place where triples go to die.
There’s a ground ball to Urias. He’ll get it over to first and unscathed are the A’s here in the six.
Denzel Clark leads off the seventh inning for the Athletics. And a cut, the miss 98 takes care of Clark. Boy, I’ll tell you, he is going high octane here to these last three hitters. Yeah, I’ll tell you what, the swing by Clark looked like he was swinging underwater. Watch how late this is. I mean, that that ball is absolutely by him.
And a swing and miss. 11 strikeouts. That’ll tie a season high. But the Rays trail at the stretch 32 the Athletics. One out. Danny Jansen 2 and a high ball back into deep left. Thomas back. Baby might go. Gone. Home run off the bat of the range. Kzer Danny Jansen. This game is tied. 3-3. Well, how about Danny Jansen unloading that ball’s running up and in. And Danny Jansen is just so quick with the swing right here. Boom. Anticipation. And boy, solid contact. A pretty high pretty big launch angle right there. Shane Bos is loving that. Are you kidding me? Michael Kelly out there now in the bottom of the ninth inning. Jose Caviierro to lead off against Kelly and a base hit stroked into right field and the Raids have the lead off Mandore with speed. Runner takes off the pitch as a ball and the throw down over. It’s in time. Cleanero tried to get in head first
and the Rays want to take a look at it,
you know, and that’s really interesting because it was quick. How about Cabier with a moving lead? I’ll tell you the Raids might have a chance. I don’t know.
Yeah. I mean, yeah, that hand looks like it gets to the bag before the tag gets to the elbow.
And the way they can slow that thing down.
Calls out.
Well, Tampa Bay loses their challenge.
So, the Rays challenge it. Come up on the short end of that one.
Here’s the pitch and a ground ball. Curts will collect. He’ll run it over to first and we will go to extra innings here in Tampa tonight. Mason Montgomery on the hill for the Rays as we go to the 10th inning. Thomas the runner at second. Enzel Clark the hitter
and the bunkets down charging down to first. Denzel won’t get there. So it’ll be a sacrifice button. Gets Kobe Thomas 90 ft away. Thomas represents the go-ahead run here for the A’s. First and third with one out. Lawrence coming up. Here’s the pitch. Austin wins. Lifted in the air to left field. Cabayro coming in. Here comes Kobe Thomas. Home is the go-ahead run. Schuman moving up to second. Ball in the outfield. Schuman heading to third now. He’s getting waved home to a stop sign from Eric Martins. He missed it. He’s coming home. Here’s the throw and Schuman’s out. A’s got that run across. They’re up four-3. Well, let’s see. I think we might be I think we might be getting a challenge here. Well, and I think what Marse is going to ask him to do is take a look at the lane because there was contact at the plate on the play. And if Max Schuman had no lane to slide into, which it looks like he may not have, I mean, you can see Matt Dice in that left foot splitting the foul line.
The call for field is confirmed. The runner’s out. There is no blocking. A’s lose their challenge.
So, we will head to the bottom of the tenth. The A’s do have a 5-4 lead on the sack fly. Can the Rays answer? That’ll be time for Mason Miller to get a save in the second consecutive night.
Marse will opt to intentionally walk. Josh Low will be the batter. Walls at second. Aronda at first. Walls broke towards third and Mason Miller bought in the process. So now things get a little more interesting. Aronda moves to second. Walls to third and a base hit becomes very uncomfortable. Two-2 swing and a miss. Mason Miller the Reaper closes the door in game number two.
And another save. The Athletics have taken a series win over the Tampa Bay Rays here in game two with a chance to sweep them tomorrow. And they’ve done it in exciting fashion.

First
question for the tampa bay rays: When will Manuel Rodriguez be back? When will he be able to pitch?
How the heck do the rays lose to a As team that didn’t have Jacob Wilson 😭👌
