Cardinals vs. Pirates Game Highlights (6/30/25) | MLB Highlights

We are going to be delayed a bit today. Now, as I check the radar, it’s only supposed to rain for 20 to 30 minutes longer and it doesn’t look like it’s going to be very heavy. So let’s hope that that passes by and we get to play baseball here shortly and it was pouring here at PNC. But the grounds group did a fantastic job of keeping this thing dry, getting it ready to go a season high nine games over 500. Now they’re 2.5 games behind the idle cup making the start here for the Bucks. It’s andrew Heaney his 17th start of the season. He is coming off of a rocky one actually a couple of rocky one last time out. He gave up seven, his last three outings, 17 earned runs opportunity for Mason win who got his 250th career hit yesterday, put a little pressure on past the pitcher Heaney and right to second, a double play. Nick Gonzalez there by the back feels like nowadays, especially just get a ball hit up the middle. It’s going to be a double play. It’s the easiest double play there is and he hit the ball up the middle. Alec Burleson is the batter. Burleson is four for his last 13 IK F and doesn’t matter where the infield is that at. Bat. Hay takes care of Belson and the Pirates come to bat in the bottom of the first. There’s eric Fetty ready to go in the bottom of the first inning. Three and two thirds gave up seven last time out. Definitely looking to pack that one away or becomes the 10th different leadoff hitter for the Pirates this year. The drive to right center field for Spencer Horowitz and clear the deck coming. That’s the way to be a leadoff hitter. Hits your second home run as a pirate and give you a quick one nothing lead when you know, we don’t see Spencer Hurwitz hit much in that leadoff spot. Don Kelly had a niche to throw him in there. See if he can get this offense going and what do you know first pitch he swings out of the day leads off for the 10th time in his career. He did it nine times as a member of the Blue Jays last year. The line drive to left field for Andrew Mccutchen home run to lead off double to the second batter and the Pirates just trying to pick up where they left off of the weekend against the Mets. Pirates must be color blind. I think these guys are still wearing blue hats. Mccutchen hits that sweeper down the line in left the second pitch he sees and there’s a ground ball base hit to right Mccutchen will be held at third Reynolds singles. This is a case where you, you’re just trying to pull Paul. Paul want to get the runner over if I get a hit, that’s uh from cherry on top and that’s what he did. Definitely, he was going to get the runner over but I got through the hole 1st and 3rd. Nobody out infield, a double play depth for Nick Gonzalez right back to the mound. He’ll get the out there and it’s double play that was caught on a line by, that was fortuitous for the Cardinals runner at third, two outs. So Cruz ahead in the count, this guy has enormous talent. He’s got 15 homers ground ball to the second baseman backing up on it. So JC throws and just out at first. Oil Cruz. So JC was about 5 ft out on the right field grass and Cruz can fly one get fired up. They know we’re going to win. Oh, they’re playing the bongos. That’s what they’re doing. Here’s the pitch to Contreras swing high, fly ball left field toward the corner fam with room and now it’s tailing all the way into foul territory along the left field line, but fam there to make the catch and Contreras flies out one away. Tommy disappeared from our view down there, the left field line. We couldn’t tell the fans let us know though, with the A win going from right to left, kept pushing that ball to the stands. Look, they were saying it’s his birthday. Baseball and Brian reynolds Ballay gift, they’re fired up. That’s a great shot. That is awesome. Nolan Gorman hit a three run homer in the first inning yesterday helping the Cardinals on the way to a sweep in Cleveland struck him out and he strikes out Norman to end the top of the second. Pedro Pas is coming up 221 hitter right handed batter, six home runs for the Cardinals and struck him out and that’s the third for Heaney first strikeout. Look, this was a sweeper slider. He drops down a little bit. Heaney does just catches the bottom. He’s varying his arm angles more than usual tonight, victor four for his last eight. He has six bunt hits for the Cardinals and eight infield hits. How about ending each of the three innings with a strikeout? He’s been very effective today and Nick Gonzalez will lead it off o’neil Cruz and Then keep Ryan Hayes facing Eric Fetty to right center. Victor’s on the run. He’s going to make a great running leaping catch on the warning track. Did he cover some ground? It stayed in the air forever and Scott’s great speed takes away an extra base hit. How about the strides out in center field? The leaping catch on the track nice play there by big Heaney rolling along and the pitch swing and a fly ball. Center field Cruz coming on and it will be the shortstop kind of the backtrack and make the catch. The Cardinals still hit this through five. Bart leads off for the and there’s a base hit and that is the first hit since Reynolds followed the mccutcheon double which followed the Horwitz Homer Heiner flee with a bunt and the bare hand and the throw and in the dirt and safe, that will be a bunt hit for Kiner-Falefa Nolan Gorman at third, not Arenado Gorman is not really all that deep. He’s probably about three steps behind the baseline. A good throw would have probably had him, but it would, it would have taken a that ball sticks his glove. He still gets some much better efforts to, to get him out is already homered today. Hoit, a 24th round pick by the Blue Jays out of Radford University and hits this hard to left and this is going to travel over the head of Brendan Donovan and this will score a couple of runs. Spencer Horowitz is the Pirates leadoff hitter homer and a two run double and a three nothing lead. Great job of driving the ball the other way. A slider and he’s, he’s waiting back. He’s not trying to be too aggressive and they knew that was going to be up against the fence. So he’s off to the races all the way from first base and no play on him. The next time up Reynolds grounded out to Wilson Contreras that is smoked into center field fourth hit of the inning, second hit of the night for Reynolds. You know, something has been happening here at home this week the way they’re barreling the balls up. There’s been way more balls hit just like reynolds just hit that right on the money line drives and there’s a line drive base hit to right field, just what you’re talking about. But Ken scores nick Gonzalez an RB I double four nothing Pirates. The home run ball played a big part, but in the other ones, it was more of this kind of stuff hitting the ball hard, spraying around the field, finding some chalk lines, getting some gap. Here is Key Brian Hayes, the Pirates hottest hitter coming into this game and a line drive base hit to center field. Keep Brian Hayes another two run single. This is unbelievable what is going on. It’s six to nothing. That’s just, you know, more of what we were talking about I think earlier was it in the open about how when Hayes gets in that groove, he’s the type of guy that can carry your offense for a while because he does things like this gives him a nine game hitting streak and there’s a base hit for Tommy Pham. It is seven nothing Pirates. This is amazing. Just hit. This is amazing after hit after hit, especially in the more the , the more modern game of baseball. When you see these numbers up on the scoreboard, you’re thinking , oh, they must have hit a ton of home runs. That’s not the way they’re doing it. Now, the other side of this story is andrew Heaney struck him out. Now a chase that is five living on the edges, isn’t he tonight? Great pitches struck him out. Six K’s. This is the longest bid so far in his career. Previous was five innings. September 19th, 2015 when he was with the Angels at the location of that pitch and got a swing chin high at least left hand ready the pitch swinging a liner to left that’s dropping down for a base hit. And so that’s that for a no hit bid. Five and two thirds tonight, Savvy Pirate fans recognizing Andrew Heaney, not just Pirate fans, I’m looking down and there’s a lot of Cardinals fans that are giving him a round of applause for his nice job through these first six plus innings. Got him on that sinking fastball. Seven strikeouts for Andrew Heaney. One hit. Seven. Nothing Pirates does. Don Kelly decide to let Heaney try and finish off this inning, but unfortunately, the base hit might end his night. He’ll still get a great ovation as contreras rips it and now a chance to get him at first. I don’t know. I don’t know, I don’t want to look at this almost Tommy Pham gunned it to Gonzalez and Then to Horowitz very close at first base and he gets back fans that stuck out the long rain delay. They’re already standing. What a job by the veteran andrew Heaney. Sugar tries to finish it off, reset the bullpen now with Sugar going the rest of the way. How incredible would it be if he , he would be able to finish this game? You only used two pitchers chopped to the right side. The longest streak of wins by seven more runs by the Pirates since 1925. They raise the Jolly Roger on a 70 shut out of the Cardinals.

  1. Bucs starting pitching is SO goodโ€ฆ usually wasted by the lineup. Donโ€™t know whatโ€™s gotten into these hitters over the last 4 days, but I really hope they keep it up.

  2. Raise the Jolly Roger!

  3. Weird symmetry, last two games the Cardinals were in were 7-0 shutouts that were almost no hitters, but for one they were the 7 and the other the 0.

  4. For the past few seasons the pirates started off strong then fell into the abyss. Now it seems to be the complete opposite this season. They fell into the abyss starting off and as of late are starting to come on strong. Even in the games they lost against really good teams they have been really competitive in as of late. Maybe something to this.

  5. I love how even the Pirates broadcast are shocked by the Pirates having a good game ๐Ÿ˜‚as a Cards fan our starting rotation of pitchers is driving me nuts… the only person who isn't inconsistent is Sonny

  6. The Pirates announcers sure get excited about nothing (e.g. the not-so-close play at first after Contreras' single). ๐Ÿ™„
