You’re listening to Mariners baseball on Seattle Sports. Well, it was a fantastic return home to Seattle for the Mariners. Big win last night, six-2. A lot of fireworks for the Mariners. A little early, but certainly welcome with Cal going deep. Randy a couple of home runs. And can’t wait to see what we have in store tonight. Rick, hopefully another Mariner win. They have won their last two, three of four, seven of their last 11. So, they’re on a nice roll. A lot of things are clicking right now. As you mentioned, George Kirby was outstanding. The bullpen was
very, very good again. And we saw some fireworks. Two home runs from Randy Rosa Rain at his 100th and 100 home runs of his major league career. That’s a heck of a milestone to get 100 of anything but home runs. And then Cal is just setting all kinds of record. Another day, another home run, and another historical mark for Cali. It’s amazing watching him put together a season like this.
It seems to happen every single day. Yeah. and they started this home stand exactly how they wanted to start this home stand. So, we’ll see uh see what’s in store today. This should be an interesting matchup with Lorenzan on one side, the veteran pitcher, and then Emerson Hancock, who had a nice bounceback last time.
He really did. Uh five innings against the Minnesota Twins his last time out. And I look for a good outing for Emerson Hancock. He’s really done a heck of a job this year with so many guys, key players, key pitchers on the injured list in the first half of the season like George Kirby when he was gone the first few months of the year and also Bryce Miller still on the aisle and Logan Gilbert. So, uh, what a beautiful night out for baseball. Welcome to Team Mobile Park everybody on a Tuesday evening. Sun shining, blue skies above, the roof is wide open. That’s the roof report from Three Tree Roofing. The roof report brought to you by 33 roofing, the number one roofer in Washington. Go to 3t roofing.com for a free estimate today. Emerson’s ready to go. The pitch to Jonathan India is a fast ball for a strike and we are underway. Welcome to T-Mobile Park everybody. Mariners looking to make it two in a row over the Royals. Mariners winning last night by a score of six-2. Hancock three and four on the year. Next offer to India. breaking ball and a beauty on the outside corner for a strike and the count is now nothing and two. Hancock at 530 RA making his 15th start of the year. Emerson looks in, gets a sign from Cal the stretch and the pitch swinging a drive into the gap and right center field. Julio on the run he can’t get to it. on the track and bounces over the fence right over the team mobile sign for a ground rule double and an 02 pitch and Emerson would love to have that one back. So India with a double the other way to right center field right away Kansas City with a scoring opportunity that’ll bring up one of the games best. Here’s shortstop Bobby Wit Jr. hitting .284 on the year, 11 home runs and 45 runs batted in and wheels that bat around the set by Hancock. Checks the runner delivers ball for a strike. 0 and one. Went last night one for four with a couple of runs batted in. Had an RBI single and a fieldielder’s choice driving a run as well. Mariners winning last night six-2. Now the stretch by Hancock delivers. Swinging a popup right field side shallow heading for the seats down the line and it’s out of play. Well out of play and the count is now nothing and two. Home played umpire for tonight’s game two of the series. Trip Gibson Malachi Moore is at first base. Chance and Viscante at second. Andy Fletcher is the umpire at third. We are underway the stretch in the O2 to wit swing and a miss and he got him. Strike three with a fast ball away. Emerson Hancock with his first strike out of the ball game and a big one anytime you get Bobby Whit Jr. to swing and miss. So one out for Kansas City. That’ll bring up first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino. Vinnie hitting 266. He has 12 home runs and 47 runs batted in. Center fielder Julio Rodriguez a little toward left center for Vinnie a left-handed hitter. Hancock check of the runner delivers. swing and a miss and a good change up down and in and the countdown is down nothing and one. So Cal Rowley behind the plate already has mixed in pretty much his entire arsenal to the first few hitters. Emerson five innings in his last outing last Thursday in Minnesota. Next pitch swinging a broken man ground ball at third charging Williamson one hands it the throw to first low but it’s going to be picked in time. Holy smoke. Luke Bradley reaching to his right, takes the low throw, and Ben Williamson makes a heck of a play just to get to it along the third baseline. The get the out on Pascino for the second out of the inning. And on the play, India will get to third. Ben Williamson with another Benny. An outstanding play by Ben Williamson. Two outs for Kansas City. Covering up third baseman. Mel Garcia having a nice year for the Royals. batting 309 infield back two down the pitch. Ricky ball misses outside for ball one. AP Crawford at short has a kid to his left, Cole Young at second and a kid to his right at Ben Williams. And both those young players have played very well. Next off, it’s a ball outside says Trip Gibson. Hear him all the way up here and the count is 2 and0 Garcia. We got a lot to look forward to watching these two kids at two big positions. And they’ve been big contributors for the Mariners for sure. That was a really nice play.
Next offer on the way and it’s in their first strike. The count goes to two and one on Garcia. Right now, Bill Young swinging a great bat.
He had a nice time last night. Really hit the ball hard the last handful of games. Three hits last night for the first time in his major league career.
A look in by Hancock. And now the two on the way. Garcia swinging a foul back behind the plate and the count evens had two balls and two strikes. We’re really seeing this young man grow as well. Emerson Hancock was with the ball club last year up and down about three times. He was four and four overall. 4.25 RA making 12 starts. Hancock looking for the final out here in the first. The pitch on the way to Garcia. Up and away. Ball three. Full count. Three balls and two strikes. Garcia batting just over 300. Right-handed hitter. Hancock ready and the 3-2 pitch. Swinging a ground ball up the middle into center field. A base hit for Garcia. So with two outs, the Royals get a run. Here comes Indie on to score from third. Garcia with a base hit and a run. Batted in. One- nothing Kansas City. That’ll bring up veteran catcher Salvador Perez. The pitch by Hancock left up in the strike zone and Garcia hit it hard right back up the middle. He started to go for that ball with his bare right hand and pulled it back in time. That was a smart move by Emerson. So here’s Perez batting 231. Nine home runs, 43 runs batted in the pitch, swing and a miss and a sinker. The count is nothing and one.
Yeah, it was hit 105 off the bat. Not the kind of ball you want to bare hand. Not a good idea, especially for a pitcher. For anybody, but especially a pitcher. Down the stretch and the 01 to Perez. Low and inside. He has to dance away. Falls right over the plate held by his two hands doing a pushup. And the count is now even on Perez at one and one. Al Raleigh chasing so many guys with his season this year hitting home runs. And right now, Perez is in his sights. The most home runs in a season by a catcher. Next offer, swinging a foul back behind home plate. And the count is 1 and2 on Salvador. Perez in 2021, just four years ago, hit 48 home runs. That’s the major league record for the most home runs by a big league catcher. And Cal Raleigh hit number 33 in last night’s game. In game number 84, the look in by Hancock. And now time is called backing away from home plate. Titans up banning gloves and Cal Raleigh now one of the few guys in Mariner history with 70 RBI’s by game number 84. Brett Boone the other. Here’s a swing and a line shot right at Williamson at third. Braces himself, reaches up and he makes the catch on the line shot right at him and that is going to retire the side. Well, the Royals get a run and a couple of base hits. We go to the bottom of the first. Palm Street bank score the Royals won and the Mariners coming up.
Moments in baseball have been broadcast on the radio since 1921. Smith courts went into right down the line. It may go crazy folks. Go crazy. It’s a home run and the Cardinals have won the game by the three-2. A home run by the Wizard. Catch the next unforgettable call on the MLB app and MLB.com. The big hits, all the great brats. It’s the Royals one and the Mariners coming up here in the bottom of the first inning on a gorgeous, gorgeous Tuesday night here in Seattle. Plenty of sunshine. Lights are on. They won’t take effect for a while. The roof is wide open. One- nothing Kansas City. And veteran right-hander Michael Lorenson on the bound for the Royals tonight. He’s 4-8. The 4.91 RA getting ready for his 17th start of the year. JP Crawford leads off the bottom of the first inning. Here’s the lineup with a pitch to JP. Low and inside with a breaking ball. Ball one. JP having a fine year batting 279. Six home runs and 30 runs batted in. Likes to hunt that first pitch fast. didn’t get it. Next offer is inside for ball two. Two balls and no strikes. Big does such a good job of hitting the ball the other way like he did in last night’s game. Base hit to left field. Next off on the way swinging a fly ball into the gap in right center field on the run. KagleΓ³ reaches out and he makes the catch in what sunshine we have in the outfield out in right field and a little bit in center. Ball is falling past but KagleΓ³ gets there in time. What a way. See great reviews at sandberg valablecars.com. Here’s Julio. And Julio takes a pitch low and outside for ball one. Lorenson from Anaheim, California. First round pick June of 2013 by the Reds. Here’s the pitch to Julio. Swinging a foul out of play in the first base and the count is even at one ball and one strike. It’s been kind of well traveled. Spent a lot of time in Cincinnati from 2015 to 2021. Then he was an Angel 2023 with the Tigers and the Phillies. Here’s the pitch on the way. Swinging a foul back by Julio and the count now one and two. Last year with Texas he was five and six in 19 games 18 as a starter and with Kansas City 2 and 0570 already back in Kansas City this year. Lorenzan the windup and the one two on the way to Julio swinging a foul behind the plate and it’s still one and two. Welcome to July 1st everybody. July 1st also known as Bobby Bonia. How’d you celebrate today?
Well, I didn’t get a million dollars like Bobby did in his bank account if you’re wondering. Here’s the pitch on the way. Loan outside in the dirt for ball two. Two balls and two strikes. Bobby Pon. Sorry about that. That would have been a great way to
I know that would have been really nice, but it didn’t happen. That’s okay.
But way back when when he was in Met, he got this incredible contract and for some reason it was spread out over what, 20 years?
Forever. Yeah. Forever. And every July the 1st, he gets a million dollars from that deal. There’s the pitch. swung on, popped out of play high in the air first base side into the upper deck and the count is still two and two on Julio. So every July the 1st, Bobby Bonia, even though he hasn’t played in what 15 years or whatever, goes cha-ching. It’s a million dollars dropped into his bank account by the Mets. The two again to Julio blowing inside ball three. Nice at bat by Julio. Three balls, two strikes, pitches bad.
Bonia said it’s bigger than my birthday. No kidding.
Whatever. Not only does he get the billion dollars, but everyone texts him and reaches. Hey, happy birthday.
Happy Bobby today. Yeah.
Beats the heck out of my birthday.
I like my birthday. Here’s the wind up in the 3-2. Swing and a high pop left field shallow going out to shortstop. Bobby Wood Jr. down to the skin portion of the infield. Garcia the third baseman calls for it and it’s Garcia who makes the catch. So two up and two down for the Mariners. Bottom of the first one nothing Kansas City then bring up Cal Robin.
By the way it goes until 2035. So
still going.
There’s still some time. Wow.
Yeah.
That’s amazing. What a contract. Happy Bobby Bonia day for every No, just for buck. Here’s Cal. 33 home runs on the year. The pitch on the way is a strike called 0 and one as Lorenson starts him off with the best. Cal now with 33 home runs, two shy of Ken Griffy Junior’s park 35 hit before the all-star break. Now the wind up and the one on the way to Calen inside bounces in for ball one. One ball and one strike. Cal has set and established so many milestones along the way. The most home runs by a catcher before the All-Star break, breaking Johnny Bench’s record in 1970 when he hit 28. Most home runs by a switch hitter. Any switch hitter before the break. Here’s the pitch and it’s loading inside to Cal. Ball two. Two balls and a strike. Alcal getting ready. Going to be an all-star. No doubt about it. hopefully will be the starting catcher as they reset the vote with phase two. He’ll be in the home run derby. They’ll wind up ban the two-1 to Cal check swing a strike down is even a two goals and two strikes and as a matter of fact his dad Todd Raleigh is going to throw Tim in the home run derby and they were out here today practicing. Todd threw to his son a million times growing up in North Carolina. The look in by Lorenzan and the big right-hander is 22 on the way to Cal. Here she comes. Swing and a miss. The ball squirts on by Perez. Cal takes off. The throw down to first. That’ll complete the strikeout. Put out goes two-3. And that will retire the side. So, we’re going to be rooting for Cal day before the All-Star game in a couple of weeks in Atlanta, Georgia. We go to the top half of the second. Home streak bang score. The Royals won and the Mariners nothing.

Home Street Bank score. Royals one and the Mariners nothing. Top half the second. Jack Kagleon will lead things off. Hangco delivers a fast ball outside. Ball one. Jack Kagleon. First round pick by the Royals just last season out of the University of Florida. Next offer on the way is outside for ball two. Two balls and no strikes. Down in the minor leagues this year had doubleA and triple A. Hit 322 with 15 home runs. Big strong kid 56 RBI’s now the 200. This is down and away ball three 3 and0 the countleon batting 57 and most every rookie struggles when they first get to the big leagues he has two home runs. Those came in the same game. He has four runs batted in the stretch by Emerson. The three 0 in there for a strike. Down is now three and one. back had a stretch where he was 0 for 19 until last Friday when he got a base hit. How old for his last 13. The wind up and the pitch swing and a foul straight back and the count is full. Had three balls and two strikes. Game two of the four game series with Kansas City. Another bark in the park night. So our four-legged friends here at the ballpark. Great to have everybody here. It’s always a popular promotion. Here’s the pitch. Fast ball up and in. All four. So Kagleon with a walk. That’s the first walk given up by Emerson Hancock. Let’s pause for station identification time. This is the Global Credit Union Mariners Radio Network. This is Mariners baseball on Seattle Sports.

710 Kirro AM Seattle and Kirro FM HB2 Tacoma, the home of the Mariners. Here’s second baseman Nick Loftton. And Loftton takes a strike from Hancock. 0 and one. Hancock with his sinker and his change up. He’s going to get a share of ground ball outs. He could use one right here. Down the stretch and the pitch loft on a swing and a line drive down the left field line. A fair ball in toward the corner. Browning second is Kagleone. He’s heading for third. He’s going to be waved in up at the ball to Rosena. The throw in. Cut off by JP. No relay to the plate. scoring is Kagleion on a double by Nick Loftton down the left field line and the Royals now lead it two to nothing here in the top half of the second. Loftton with a shot down the left field line. So Kansas City takes advantage of the leadoff block. Still nobody out and that’ll bring up left fielder John Rae. Ray won for three last night. Ray batting just 182, no home runs and three runs banned in the stretch and the pitch. He tries to bunt and bounces it off the plate, bounces high in the air behind Cal Raleigh and the count is 0 and one on Rave. Kansas City very quickly with two runs, but they’ve had their problems offensively. They are last in the American League in run score this year, 279, seventh in the league in hitting. They don’t strike out. Second fewest strikeouts. Here’s the stretch and the pitch on the way to Ra. Swing and a foul tip into Cal’s glove. And the count is now nothing at two. Kansas City off to a quick start. Two runs on three base hits. Had two runs last night. Here is the set by Hancock and the O2 on the way. Swinging a ground ball. Hit hard but fouled on the first base side. And the count is still nothing and two. That’s an interesting matchup. You have the Royals, a team that makes a lot of contact. They don’t strike out. Generally, their contact, they don’t hit the ball hard and it’s not a lot of slug. Emerson, a guy who doesn’t strike out a lot, so there’s going to be a lot of contact in this game.
Nice offer. Swinging a foul back by Rave again. This one off the netting behind home plate, but the Royals have slugged in the game so far. A couple of doubles early on. It’s made a difference.
But overall, they’re not hitting the ball out of the ballpark. Two doubles already. Handcock from the stretch and again the O2 to Ray. Swinging a line drive over the head of Young at second into right field for a base hit. Over to third goes Loft and he’ll stay there. Up with the ball is Canzone. Fires it into the plate. So still nobody out here in the top half of the second. Royals have a run in and runners on at first and third. That’ll bring up center fielder Kyle Isel. Jonathan Indian do up next. Kansas City 39 and 46. And Gary, they had a heck of a year last year getting to the playoffs as one of the wild card teams in that interesting battle in the American League Central with Detroit, Cleveland, and these Royals.
Yeah, they were all in it. They all picked on the White Socks all year. Everybody did.
Picked up a lot of wins off the White Socks. Very competitive. What was impressive when you look at what the Royals did last year. The jump from the year before. It’s a team that lost over a hundred games the previous year.
Yeah.
And jumped themselves into the postseason just a year later. That is really hard to do. They did it. Unfortunately, you know, the Pasquantino injury at the end of the season really hurt them going into the postseason. Their offense just wasn’t the same. you know, their record, you know, when he went down was one of the worst in baseball for the last month of the season, month and a half. Well, Emerson Hancock still in trouble here in the top half of the second. Here’s Isel pitch on the way and it’s a strike called 0 and one. And is back. Nobody out. They try to turn two to give up a run to get two outs. Like I said, Hancock when he’s down in the strike zone with that change up and the sinker. Good job to get a ground ball right now to Young. Here’s the pitch on the way. Swinging a ground ball to Young. Snares it on a hop. He’ll go to second. The relay to first by JP. Not in time. And another run. Scores. Man, what a play by Cole Young though. A scorcher on a hop to his left. They get the force on Rave at second. Isel is safe at first base on a 46 fieldielder’s choice. He picks up an RBI cuz Loftton scores from third and the Royals now lead three to nothing. What a stop though by Cole Young at second base. Finally get that first out. Now one on, one away. And here’s Jonathan India. The pitch from Hancock is a strike. 0 and one. And we’re seeing Cole Young out there really grow into a big league ball. Swinging the bat, playing really good defense. It’s a lot of help from JP. Here’s a toss over to first base to get Isbel back to the bag.
Unfortunately, everything this everything this inning has been hit hard off handcuff. What was that except 103? Yeah, it was sports. Look in by Emerson and the 01 India inside for ball one. One ball and one strike. Hancock still trying to get himself out of a jam. Two in here in the second the stretch and the one-1 pitch is high and outside for ball two. Two balls and a strike. So the Royals made him work and he had backed up there. let off the game with a double into the gap in right center down the stretch and the pitch way outside ball three and one. Royals trying to get back on track. They were 16 and 15 at the end of April, 15 and 13 in May, but 8 and 18 in June. Welcome to July everybody. Here’s the pitch. That’s over for a strike and the count is full on India at 3 and2. Earlier this year they had a stretch where they lost 10 consecutive games at home and then 11 of 12. Hancock now looking for a double play ball to get out of the inning. The 3-2 on the way high and inside for ball four. So India draws a walk. Second walk given up by Emerson Hancock. both coming here in the second inning. That’ll bring up Bobby Wood Jr. And I want to take a look at this guy with runners on base.
No, that’s a problem. But one of the stars of the game so dangerous. One more double to 30 already this season. 35 runs batted in for Bobby Wit Jr. 11 home runs. He has a 20game hitting streak on the road. Good year for Whit last year. Hancock in with a sign from Cal the stretch and the pitch to Whit. Ball one outside. Ball one signed a big contract. 11-year deal for $288 million. He’s going to be a Royal in Kansas City for a long, long time. Next pitch, swinging a stroller roller right side picked up by underhands the ball over to Hancock at the bag and it’s in time to give Whit at first as Bobby Whit queued it right off the end of the bat to the right side of the infield. Over to Hancock for the second out of the inning on the play. Both runners advance to second and Bell over to third base. Well, big spot right here to limit the damage. Two across, but base hit will drive in two more. So, a big out to get and here is Vinnie Pasquantino. The pitch on the way to Vinnie Lo and outside ball one. The Royals with a big bats right here in the lineup with Pasquantino and Garcia and Perez. Long second for Hancock the stretch and the 10 pitch is loaded outside of Vinnie. Ball two, two balls and no strikes. Vinnie O for his last eight. Prior to that he had a six-game hitting streak. Good left-handed hitter infield back right side. The two his low ball three. And now Hancock way behind in the count and Emerson Gary has thrown a lot of pitches early in the ball game. Is it be number 45? So he’s climbing towards 50 already. A lot of work early.
Yeah, your bet. Three 0.
It’s low and outside for ball four. So Pat Quentino draws a walk. The third walk given up by Hancock here in the second inning alone. And now the Royals have the bases loaded with two down. And that’ll bring out pitching coach Pete Woodworth out to the mount. Have a talk with Hancock to slow him down along with Cal Rally out there. And the batter will be Mike Hilton Garcia ripped a base hit to center field in the first inning. Lou McFlur here at the ballpark this evening throwing out the ceremonial first pitch. Longtime ladies golf coach at the University of Mary Lou. Now Pete turns around and trots on back to the Mariners first base ding out and Hancock is still looking for that elusive third out here in the top half of the second. Hancock goes the rubber looks in gets the sign from Cal Royal at every base with two down two in. Three nothing Kansas City. The pitch to Garcia way outside ball one. No room for Garcia. for four last night. Outfield straight away. Hardly a breeze going in off of Elliot Bay. The next offer on the way. Fast goal. First strike and the count is even on Garcia and one and one. Crow the manager for Kansas City now. His third year with the Royals. The stretch and the 1-1 pitch. Strike on the outside corner. one and two. So Everson really needed that pitch to get out in front of the count. Salvador Perez the look in by Hancock and the one two on the way. Swing and a foul off of Cal and the count is still a ball in two strikes. I don’t know how Cal does it every day out there. those days catching a lot of days good DH open up by Trip Gibson cleaning off both play giving Cal a little bit of a breather after that foul ball
he took a punch right to the mask having the year he’s having doing all that makes it even more amazing yeah runners are leaded every base in the one-two pitch swinging a popup out of play in the first base side and it’s still one and two on Garcia Yeah, it has been a long and I mean a long top half of the second for Emerson Hancock. Royals three runs on four hits. Now the set by Emerson again the one two swinging a chopper past the mound charging is Williamson across the diamond. His thrown to first and it’s going to be in time just in time to get Garcia at first and that will retie the side. Ben Williamson, the third baseman, cutting across way to his left in front of JP Crawford gets to it and that will end the inning. The Royals add two more. We go to the bottom of the second. What a play by Ben Holmes.

Takes the throw from Loftton for the second out of the inning. So two down. That’ll bring up Dom’s own zone. Loftton had to wait because Pascino was going to his right to try to get to it and saw that Loftton had a better chance. Really made that play pretty close though.

Giving an idea how much they pitch the last four games. They’ve worked 19 innings. That’s over two complete games.
Yeah. The 2-1 swung on a chopper third base side foul. So with that being said that again it’s a situation where they could use six at least solid innings from the starter which they have been getting the last few times out or they’ve really needed to. Here’s the pitch. That’s wide. Three balls, one strike. White Socks. Fisk again for the White Socks. So, not only for the Red Sox, but for the White Sox. A bigger number for the White Sox. 37 one year. Here’s the 3-1. Swung on. Hit hard to the right side. Scooped up at second base. Loftton has loss to first to get the out. Just two away. Did you ask about the Cubs? Gabby Harden.
Yeah, Gabby Harden. He had 37. you know3 33 I mean you know Arizona has been along that live that long but 18 home runs it just here’s the pitch to Randy who homered last time he takes it for a strike just points out kind of what we’re seeing not only this year but kind of leading up to this year 34 last year 30 before that the one that’s a touch low one ball one strike It’s not just isolated to this year. You’re talking about Yeah. Like he has been stacking up home runs at a pretty ridiculous rate, especially for that position. 1-1. That misses a lot. That’s way outside. Goes all the way to the back stop. Two balls in one strike. He has the second most home runs for a catcher in the first five years in the big leagues. In his first year, he hit two.
Yes.
He’s right behind Mike Piaza. He gained ground in a hurry in the last four. He sure did.
The 2-1 going on popped up and that’s out of play behind home plate. Two balls, two strikes, two outs. Mariners trailing by two. It’s three to one. Play here in the fourth. How about the Montreal Expos? Gary Carter 31. Here’s the 2-2. Swung on and missed. Down goes Randy and the Mariners put away pretty quickly here in the fourth inning. So a zero on the board as we move along to the fifth. Mariners trailing 3 to1 in the Global Credit Union Mariners Radio Network. Take a hack at guessing which baseball player or manager said to follow.
I really don’t know what to say. I’m just uh so happy I gave something. These people cheer. We all did. I mean it was a great game. Both teams played incredible. It was a great game. Our home street bank score. The Royals three. Mariners won. Top of the fifth inning. Bobby Whit Jr. will lead it off. And we got a loose baseball out there in left field from the grand stands. Randy trots over, picks it up, tosses it to a fan way up there in the up deck right above the Boowing sign. Guys one over the Boeing sign. Here’s Bobby Whit Jr. 0 for two on the night against Emerson Hancock. The pitch ball for strike 0 and one. Royals really made Emerson work the first two innings. They got a run in the first two runs in the second. Threw a lot of pitches the last seven. Next offer, swing and a miss by Wit. And the count is now nothing and two. Just a little wedge of sunshine off the wall. And I mean straight away center field surrounding that 401 mark. That’s it. Everything else in shade on the playing surface. Wind blowing in from the left field corner off of Elliot Bay. And a beautiful Tuesday night. Here’s the pitch. Swung on. Ground ball to the hole at short. Diving stop. JP Crawford gets up. One hop throw to first. Not in time to try to get Bobby Wood Jr. with the speed, but a great play by Crawford just to get to that ball on the edge of the outfield grass deep and it’ll roll it short. That’s an infield base hit for Bobby Whit Jr. bring up first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino. Benny hits a home run at Pumpin Stadium. Pasquat shows up out there by the Fountains in center field. Here’s the pitch on the way. Big swing and a foul back by Pasquantino. 0 and one. I don’t know who came up with that, but it’s pretty funny. Vinnie 0 for one.
That was a great play by JP. Uh Bobby Wit has the fastest sprint speed in baseball, so really had no chance. Next off, swinging a fly ball deep into the gap in left center field. Julio on the run to the oney track. Slides and he makes the catch. No, the ball comes out of his glove. Picked up by Randy. Now around to third goes Bobby Wit Jr. past Quentino in at second base with a double. Julio had a long way to go. Went into a slide, reached for it and he had it for a moment and the ball just came out of his glove. Randy was right there to help out. So now the Royals have runners and second and third with nobody out. Nice effort by Julio right there. came so close making an outstanding catch. He has played great defense in center all season. Here’s Michael Garcia. The infield up close. Pitch to Garcia swinging a chopper along the third baseline. Fouled back at it by Williamson. And it’s 0 and one on Garcia. So now Emerson really has to do some fancy pitching right here with two on and nobody out. Both in scoring position. Hancock would love a strike out. Garcia one for two and an RBI single. A pitch to him. Strike two called on the outside corner. 0 and2. Garcia the best average on this Royals ball club at 309. Coming into the ball game. Hancock to sign the O2 swing and a foul pack. Down to still nothing and two. send with a new baseball from the plate on fire. Trip Gibson. Everybody up close. Here’s the stretch by Emerson. And the O2 again is high and inside as Garcia backpedals away and out of the batters box from ball one. One ball and two strikes. Game two of the four game series. A lot of baseball left to go on this home stand. Two more with Kansas City. Three with the Pirates coming to town. Here is the one, two on the way to Garcia. And here she comes. Swing. Little tapper out in front of the plate. Picked up by Cal. Checks the runner third. Throws the first in time to get a huge first out on Garcia. Little tapper right in front of the plate. Cal jumped on it in a hurry. Take a look at Bobby Win it at third base. Held him there. And of course, Pascino stayed right there at second. One away. And that’ll bring up Salvador Perez. Perez had a rocket right to Williamson at third. Back to the first and he’s grounded out to Williamson at third in the third inning. Here’s the stretch and the pitch. Perez a swing and a miss. 0 and one. Big man with a big cut. For the last nine games, he’s really struggling. Batting under 100, batting 085. But he’s dangerous anytime he’s up there at home playing with a bat in his hands. Infield close. The 01 swinging a fly ball well hit right center field. Julio going back to the warning track near the wall. Leaps up and this one is off the top of the fence. Extra bases. Blit will score. Ronnie third is Pasquantino. Now the throw to the plate on a hop to Cal. The tag not in time. Pasquantino scores with a slide. Rolls across home plate. Perez hits one off the top of the wall in right center field. Almost got out of here. So Kansas City with two more runs in here in the top of the fifth and they now lead it five to one. Rez hustling into second base. The relay on a hop to Cal to Cal Raleigh and what a slide by Pascantino to avoid the tag of Cal. So 51 Kansas City give Perez a double and two runs batted in. Here’s Jack Pagle Leone. The stretch and the pitch. Swinging a line drive into center field. Julio coming in. Slides and he makes the catch. Julio’s been busy here in the top of the fifth inning. Low line shot sinking quite a bit and Julio was able to get there in time to make an outstanding catch for the second out of the inning.
The Perez was kind of deceiving. Julio climbed the wall but the ball actually hit a little bit to the side of it. So it looked like he was trying to go up to rob it, but the ball actually hit a couple feet away from him. So from our vantage point, it was kind of deceiving how the play played out. Is second baseman Nick Loftton. The pitch to Loftton is outside for ball one, but it was off the top of the wall. Julio tried to go back to make the catch and it stayed in the ballpark. Hancock in with a sign and the one blowing outside. Ball two, two balls and no strikes. Say the Mariners kick it off the Fourth of July weekend with a fireworks spectacular this Thursday. Don’t miss the Patriotic postgame show presented by T-Mobile and 98.9 the Bull after the Mariners take on the Royals. Here’s the pitch. Swinging a foul out of play on the first base side. Two and one the count. Get your tickets now at mariners.com/fireworks. Fourth of July just days away. Hancock still in a jam with a runner at second but two outs now the stretch and the two-1 to Loftton swinging a foul behind home plate out of play in the count evens had two balls and two strikes and Cog’s pitch count is way up there here in the top half of the fifth inning a lead at second base now on the set by Hancock and the big run-anders two to Loftton check swing ground ball first base side up the ball is he gets to the bag plenty of time to get Loftton that will retire the side but the Royals add two more and the big one out two-run double off the top of the wall by Salvador Perez we go to the bottom of the fifth inning street bank the big hits all the great brats you got to be kidding and all the swagger. Relive the day’s biggest plays all in one lightning fast. Space show. You better believe it.

Here’s the pitch. Swinging a miss. Good change up and Lorenzan had Kzone way out in front and the count is even at two balls and two strikes. Remember in that crazy three-game series with the wind blown out at Wrigley Field, the Mariners outscored the Cubs 30-20. Now the stretch and the 2-2 swinging a ground ball to the right side wide of first over pass Quantino. He’s got it underhands the ball over Lorenzan at the bag in time to get zone. 3-1 the put out on the play. Really will get to third base. So one on and one away and the banner will be third baseman Ben Williamson and 0 for one on the night. The kids at the bottom of the order have been very impressive this year now with Panzone here but especially Williamson and Young club really young. Here’s the pitch on the way to Ben low and outside for ball one. There it is. Four games over 500 trying to keep pace with the Houston Astros. They’ve been playing some great baseball. Now the stretch and the widow on the way to bent swinging a ground ball down the third base side. Fouled skips on by Garcia on the other side of the bag and the count is even on Williamson. and one ball and one strike. Infield is back and the ground ball could score a run right here. Everybody playing deep. Here’s the stretch and the 1-1 on the way. Swinging a line drive down the right field line. A fair ball in toward the corner. Here comes on to score. Williamson to second up of the ball. Kag Leon the throw to second. The tag by Whit safe. Ben Williamson safe at second with a head first slide. The throw is on the money from the right field corner by Kaggle Leone. Ben Williamson with a great slide has an RBI double. Mariners with another run and it’s now the Royals five and the Mariners two. Good hustle by Ben Williamson. I didn’t see the play of this slide. Some sort of magic slide. That throw definitely beat him to second base. Yeah.
Oh yeah. His hand just snuck in there. It was a onehop strike into Bobby Wit. He got the throw right over the bag, but Williamson was able to slide in with that left hand to get the corner of the bag. And now time is called the pitching coach for Kansas City out to have a talk with Lorenzan. 52 Kansas City. Big RBI for Ben. And that’ll bring up Cole Young who had a single his last time up in the third and right now he’s swinging one of the hottest bats on this team. Royals have it lefty up and going. Here comes Cole Young with a chance to drive in a run. Only careerhigh three hits in last night’s game. And the one out he made. He hit a rocket to the right fielder KaggleΓ³. Here’s the stretch by Lorenzan. Jacks Williamson. the pitch to go low and inside the dirt knocking it down as Perez as Williamson had a little bit of a break toward third and wisely went back to the bag at second. One and0 count on goal now batting 259 coming into the ball game. That’s 19 games he’s hitting 318. Here’s the stretch and the 10 going inside. Ball two. Gucci balls and no strikes. Was talking with Edgar Martinez prior to the ball game about Cole. He said he’s just doing such a good job of using the big part of the field. He had some big hits the opposite way to left. Here’s the stretch and the next offer swing and a fly ball down the left field line. Slicing foul and out of play. And the count is now two and one. Said something to the fact that he’s just getting more and more confidence getting to the fast ball. Quick Renen in with a sign from Perez. Here’s the pitch on the way to Cole. Swinging a fly ball into the left field gap going back as Rafe to the warning track. Still backing. He’s there to make the catch. Tagging at second, heading for third. Williamson the throw to third. Not in time. Ben Williamson showing off some wheels here in the bottom of the fifth inning. Young flies out deep the other way to left field. Ray making the catch at the front part of the warning track. Williamson going back to second to tag and he gets into third base. But two outs in the inning with Ben on at third and that’ll bring up JP Crawford and that is a mighty big run over there at third base when you’re down by three here in the bottom of the fifth. Lorenzan fires away the pitch to JP is eye and outside for ball one. 52 Royals. St. Pete two hits last night. Looking for his first hit tonight. The stretch and the one pitch on the way to Crawford. We go to the bottom of the seventh. Sera still on the hill. the lefty. Miners will go to the bench here. Mariners were threatening in the six. The double play ended the rally. Dylan Moore is going to pinch it here for Canzone. Serpa, there’s a really wide gap between what lefties do against him and what righties do against him. Righty’s batting 313 against him with three home runs. Lefties 214 with just one home run. 100 point difference. It’s been a struggle for Dylan as he’ll stand in looking to ignite something here. Mariners trailing 5-3. Here comes the pitch to Dylan. He watches it over first strike. 97. Serpa has really good stuff. Averages 96 on his two fast balls. Here’s the 01. It’s upstairs. There’s a slider he goes to as well. Super high ground ball right. That was what we saw last inning. The pitch is inside. Ersig the righty getting loose. Williamson and Cole Young do up after this. Then the top of the order looking for traffic. Here comes the 2-1. That’s low. Well, three balls and one strike. Dylan would gladly take a walk right here to lead off the seventh inning. Sera steps into the pitch. Here it is. Swung on a miss. It’s 97 on the two se. He ripped it by him. Three balls, two strikes. A lot of strikeouts for Dylan this past month. Into the motion. He delivers. down low. Ball four. The Mariners have the lead off man aboard in the seventh. That’s exactly what they were looking for. Dylan Moore draws the walk and here comes the tying run. Ben Williamson will bat and we’ll see. Almost like a looked like a trainer came out of the dugout for a moment and then was just kind of waved off. So, Zerpa is going to stay on. Urs is ready in the pen. Mariners trailing by two. We’re in the seventh inning. No outs. Dylan a nice lead at first base. In fact, a throw to first to push him back to the bag. 5-3. Your home street bank score. Royals with the lead. Serpa his pitch. That’s high. Barely. 97 just upstairs. One ball, no strikes. Williamson an RBI double last time. The pitch the half cut. He did not go and that’s a ball. Two balls and no strike. So Serpa has already walked the leadoff man. Now he’s down 200. Cole Young, a lefty on deck. Then you have another lefty and JP the two. Uh it’s called a ball that was in the zone. They appealed to first base to see if Williamson went. He did not. So it’s three balls and no strikes. So Ben Williamson gets a break.
There’s a lot going on there with the swing.
But was he’s way out in front of the count. And now Perez wants to go out and have a little talk with Serpa. This team always seems to find a way to come back and they’re looking to do that tonight here against Kansas City. Down by two. Tying run at the plate. Mitch Garver the only righty left on the bench for the Mariners. They’ve used Solano. They’ve used Dylan Moore. They have Master Bony and Garver left. Young the lefty on deck. He’s standing there. Here’s the 3 0. That is right there for a strike. Williamson taken all the way, which is what you’d expect. So now things get serious. Three balls, one strike, no outs, runner at first. 5-3 game. Here’s the pitch. That’s wide. Ball four. That could have been a strike. Ben Williamson takes the walk. The first two based on balls here in the seventh inning. The Mariners have the tying runs aboard. Here comes Cole Young. And it looks like they’re going to make a move. Serpa is not going to stay in to face the lefty. It looks like the Royals are going to go to the pen here and call out Ersig, the righty. And that’s going to be it for Serpa. He walks the first two in the inning. Here we go. Mariners trying to come back in the seventh. We’ll come back with more right after this. What’s better than a zeroturn mower? 0%. Let’s see if you can figure out the following baseball slang term. Penn has been all over the place defensively and now time is gone. Pitching coach Pete Woodworth out to the mound skips over the chalk of the first baseline now walking slowly out to have a talk with Juan Bergos. Can’t tell how busy Ben has been by just looking at his uniform. Everyone else is wearing a white uniform is no longer the case. Just caked in dirt top to bottom. He is some kind of dirty and that’s what happens when you play third base. He’s made some great plays over there in tonight’s game. He’s done a super job defensively and he’s swinging a good bat as a rookie third baseman. Now time is called as the plate umpire. Trip Gibson going out to the mound. Break up the conversation. They’re still chatting and now Pete gives Bergos a pat on the backside and thrs on back to the first base dug out. So the kid is getting tested right here with one out. He gave up the double to Whit. Quit then stole third and with Whit on at third he got Patch Martino a tough left-handed bat to pop off to Williamson in foul territory near home plate. Here we go. Mel Garcia the hitter. Ergos checks the runner at third. Now the pitch on the way. Garcia check swing at a breaking ball and it’s a strike. The pitch was down and away but Garcia could not hold up on the swing. Dallas to check it. And now the manager for the Royals not too happy with Oaklit uppart Trip Gibson. He went down to Malachi Moore who made the call and the count is 0 and one on Mel Garcia. So now Garcia back up there at home plate. Fergos has retired five of the six batters he’s faced. Here’s the stretch and the 01 pitch. is on the way to Garcia way outside the ball. One, one ball and one strike. Always fun to see a kid make their major league debut. We almost saw him come in in that extra inning win down in Texas. He was the lone body out in the bullpen. Down the stretch and the 1-1 pitch. Low went outside for ball two. Two balls in a strike. That would have been a very tough baptism of fire. come in and any kind of situation there late in that ball. A check of win on at third. Two outs and the two-1 to Garcia. Check swing. It’s low and outside. I think Garcia said go ahead and check first base umpire. Didn’t go and they didn’t. Ball three. Three and one to Garcia. Salvador Perez do up next. Ferggo’s ready. the sign from Cal and the young right-handers 3-1 pitch on the way to Garcia. Check swing. It’s outside ball four. So that’s the first walk given up by Bergos in his major league debut. And now the Royals have runners on at first and third with two outs. This is not a soft landing by any means. Trying to keep it a two-run margin. And now he’s got to take a look at Salvador Perez. He’s faced just a handful of batters in his major league career. Salere Perez, meanwhile, has faced a thousand pitchers. There’s a little difference in experience going on right here.
Two on and two outs.
Pitch on the way to press. Swinging a ground ball up the middle. Crawford with a dive and he can’t get to it. A base hit. Whit will score. Rounding second heading third. Garcia. The throw by Julio not in time. Salvador Perez with an RBI single up the middle. Diving try by JP Crawford. And now the Royals lead six-3. So give Perez a single and his third RBI of the game. That was a pitch. It was up and in. He was able to pull his hands in and hit it hard right back up the middle. His
third straight hit. He’s had a really nice night. big double earlier. It’s been the difference maker. No doubt about it. And now first and third here is Pag Leone with a swing and a fly ball into center field. Barely deep going back near the one track. Julio with adjustment toward left center. He’s there and he makes the catch and that will retire the side. The Royals tack on a mighty big run here in the top of the ninth inning. We go to the bottom of the ninth. Last try for the Mariners. Home Street Bank score. It’s now

They had a big run in the top half of the ninth inning. And the Royals go with their closer right-hander Carlos Estz will take over in relief. Estz 2 and two with a 2.08 RA making his 35th appearance of the year. 22 saves and 25 opportunities. So here we go. Randy Rose Aarena Donovan Solano first two to face Estas here in the bottom of the ninth inning. The look in by Estas Burley right-hander. Pitch on the way to Randy and it’s a strike on the inside corner. 0 and one. A homer happy left fielder for the Mariners. A home run in the second. He had two last night in the opening game of the home stand. The stretch and the pitch to Randy swinging a fly ball straightaway center field. Now backing up Isbel to the warning track. Has some carry and Isbell is there to make the catch. Ball had a little extra carry to it. So one out for the Mariners here in the bottom of the ninth inning. And Randy is really strong. It looked like he had to reach out for that ball. He was able to get to it on the sweet spot. Get a pretty good ride. And here is Donovan Solano. Iowa’s fast is up next. as he moves into the on deck circle. Aaron has need a couple of base runners. Get that tying run up to home plate. Here’s the stretch and the pitch to Solano.
Here’s a strike on the inside corner. Nothing and one. Donovan hitting over 400 the last few weeks. Look in and the pitch. Swing and a foul tip in a Perez’s glove. to count nothing and two. Alvidor Perez a huge night. Three for five, two doubles, a single and three runs batted in for Kansas City. Next pitch swing and a foul back by Solano. And the count is still nothing and two, 35 years of age, the aegis veteran still getting it done for the Royals. Here’s the stretch. And again, the O2 on the way to Donovan way up high for ball one. one ball and two strikes. There’s a run in the second on a radio Rosa rain home run. Two runs in the fifth inning the stretch and the one two on the way to Solano swing and a popup out of play. First base side still one and two. Then Williamson with a double that scored Luke Bradley and Williamson scoring. Another base hit by JP Crawford. Royals six runs tonight on 10 base hits. Mariners still with a pulse. Here’s the pitch on the way and it’s low and outside for ball two. Two balls and two strikes. Solano in last night’s game got the start. He had a 12 pitch walk the bottom of the second inning against Michael Walker last night. Next offer swinging a high pop into left field. Coming in is the left fielder Rave. And Ra is there and he makes the catch for the second out here in the bottom of the ninth inning. So now the Mariners are down to their final out. And here’s Miles Mastone and time is called as Perez trots out to the mound. Have a little talk with Steph. So Master trying to get on board any way he can. Ben Williamson is up next. Aaron is hanging on right now by a thread. They take on the Royals tomorrow night in game three of this four game series on Thursday night as well. Miles ready. Here’s the set by Estz and the pitch. The master strike 0 and one fast ball at 96. You see Logan Gilbert tomorrow night against Noah Cameron. Good start for Kansas City. Now the 01 pitch way outside for ball one. One ball and one strike. And Ryan Woo on Thursday night. Remember the Pirates come to town Friday, Saturday, and Sunday before the Mariners hit the road again before the break. So to New York and Detroit, a 1-1 swing and a fly ball into straightaway center field. Coming in is Isbel. He is there and he makes the catch and the Royals take game two of the four game series. They win tonight a final score of six to three. And what a night for the veteran catcher Salvador Perez for Kansas City with three hits, couple doubles, a single and three runs batted in. Out of here. He is fire. Change up game night with baseball’s biggest game changer. MLB Big Inning presented by Best Western. Every night, all season long on MLB.TV. No, that’s absolutely right. Uh it’s tough when you’re down early in the ball game. Emerson Hancock, Gary threw a lot of pitches in the first two innings, but he was able to give Dan Wilson and Pete Woodworth six innings tonight. He was able to hang in there. Fortunately, that big one out, two-run double by Salvador Perez in the top of the fifth inning made it a 5 to1 ball game. That was the big hit of the game for Kansas City tonight. But Hancock was able to go six. Then we saw a heck of a debut tonight by Juan Bergos. Pitched the final two innings. He had a one, two, three top of the eighth inning, including his first major league strikeout. He added another strike out in the ninth, but then he faced Bobby Wood Jr. double way back to center field. The kid though looked very impressive. But you’re right, uh, Mariners were trying to battle back all night long when they had opportunities. Was a double play ball that stopped it in the sixth and a double play ball in the seventh.
Yeah, those are the two you look back on. Really threatening. Two on, one out in the sixth. The first two on a couple walks in the seventh looked like golden opportunities, but those double plays really cost the Mariners. It really did. Uh the Mariners were looking for the big hit. They had the big hits in last night’s game. Um Ben Williamson I I thought just played a heck of a ball game tonight. An RBI double and he scored a run, but he made two or three outstanding defensive plays. Made a great play and a ball hit by Bobby Wit. Was able to get to it to his right. He threw a dart across the infield to get wit. Was one of the fastest guys, you know, in the game of baseball. And this kid just continues, Gary, to get better and better defensively. The young man is going to win a Gold Glove in the very near future. Kansas City grabs the win. 63 the final score. We’ll come back. You’re listening to Mariners baseball on Seattle Sports. Mariners lose to the Royals 63 the final score. Six runs, 10 hits for KC. Three runs, seven hits for the Mariners. Rosena had two hits including a home run, his third in the last two ball games against Kansas City. clearly had a double for the Mariners. Williamson had a double. He drove in a run for the Ms. Williamson also walked. Hancock struggled. Six innings, seven hits, five runs earned, three walks, just one strikeout. Zardo one clean inning, and then Bergos pitches two innings, gave up one run, one walk, and a couple of strikeouts. But overall, a nice debut, a nice major league debut for Bergos. That was fun to see the kid come in. We were keeping our fingers crossed that he didn’t go into that firestorm, you know, in Texas with extra innings that, you know, make his debut in a game like that on the road in Texas against that lineup. So, he comes in tonight was very impressive. A one, two, three top half of the ninth inning, including a strike out of Kyle Isel. His first strike out in the big leagues. The kid showed a lot of poise. He showed a good breaking ball, a live fast ball, and there is a lot to work with right there. And it just seems like Gary, the Mariners organization really does a really good job of cultivating relievers, getting them through the minor leagues or from other organizations and then get them into the big leagues and make them even better.
Two guys when you face Kansas City you have to be careful of. Sal Perez, Bobby Wit Jr. went two for five, scored a couple times, doubled. Sal Perez, he did big damage. Three for five, two doubles, drove in three. Those are the two guys. If you keep them quiet, you’ll handle Kansas City for the most part. Well, most nights, but that didn’t happen tonight.
You think that Perez eventually is going to slow down, you know, the wear and tear, but uh against the Mariners, he’s been mighty tough and tough against a lot of other teams as well. He’s I think he’s putting together a Hall of Fame career, a resume.
We’ll come back and take a look at the matchup tomorrow. Mariners still a chance to take this serious. They’ll have to win the next two to do it.
