Top MLB Plays of 7/1/25 (Denzel Clarke does it AGAIN, Victor Scott II DIVES, and MORE)!
They play cat and mouse. Here’s pitch. Hit to the right side. Polly jumps up. Makes the play back to first for the third out. Nicely done. Playing an excellent first base all year. Might be hitting dropped off a little bit, but first base he is just solid. No runs, no hits, no errors in the man left to the second inning. It’s two nothing Yankees in baseball. The Marlins. They can spin it as the 3-1 is ripped. Oh, diving stop by Connor Norby to his feet in a skip through to first. He got him. Pick it, Norbs. You know, there was some defense on that road trip as well. A lot of people put in their time with defensive work. Connor Norby does that and purposely as he came up, he threw that ball on one hop. He made that throw on purpose after picking it and actually had Koreah by quite a bit. Great pick. Super throw. Payoff again. Lash to right. Later break by Benson on the slide. Makes the catch. That was a phenomenal play by Will Benson in right field. That ball looked like it was going to die. It looked like it was going to bounce and head into the stands and a great slide and catch. One ball, two strikes lined into left field and a base hit. Here comes Fam firing toward the plate. Going to be on time. He’s going to get him at the plate. Tommy Fam, the former Cardinal, throws out Wilson Contrarus and keeps this a scoreless game. Right on the money, one hopper. Perfect throw by Fam.
12 chip away at that pitch count.
Here’s the pitch and it’s served out to right field. Lawrence to the ground and a catch for Butler. Talk about a great read, a great initial jump for Lawrence Butler. Plays like this, you have to make that decision quickly off the bat. It was a bit of a half swing from me. Lawog having to create a little angle for himself. Comes up with it cleanly. The left-hander very appreciative.
Now the pitch by Palante. Not swung on and driven toward right center field. Here comes Scott. He dives. He makes the catch. Victor Scott retires Tommy Fam. And our game is going to the sixth inning in Pittsburgh. Nothing. Nothing. Finds this one toward Neto. And he caught it. A leaping catch by Zack Netto.
Timed it perfectly. That leap and runs that one down. Quick one, two, three. Clean inning for Tyler Anderson. Defense on display for Neto. To center field. Denzel Clark going back to the track. Denzel Clark at the wall. Head leap up and Denzel makes another catch. [Applause] Well, and we’re going to get a look at whether or not this ball may have been a souvenir. You can see Denzel kind of having to reroute eventually leaps up. That ball was not going to leave the yard, but it was going to be trouble. Should it have come down in any other place outside of the glove of Denzel Clark should come into the game with a plan on how do we scratch out one or two runs and make him work for his outs. Ball sharply up the middle. Diving stop Simeon and his first in time. What a play to finish a scoreless third inning by the Gold Glover. It’s a lecture to have to gro on the mound. It’s absurd to have that guy behind him. Hit it to the other side next time. Matt Shaw was in the middle of all that and he tries to go the other way and a sliding catch by Lane Thomas and he hangs on for route number one. He went all out and he gets a nice hand from the bleacher crowd.
Well, this going to be our defensive play of the game and I’ll tell you this is for aggressive. I was watching to tell you the truth Jones because he was over in right field and Thomas came out of nowhere and it’s on his glove side where he’s able to cover the ground. That ball was slicing slicing away going into the gap but he’s able to get over there and save him. Sends this one to right field. Cam Smith going back. Still going back near the wall. Jumps up and makes a phenomenal catch. Crashing into the wall. That’ll be a sack fly. But Cam Smith took one away from Tyro Estrada. And hopefully Cam’s okay as he’ll get checked out by Jake Meyers in right field. What a great play. Cam Smith never playing in this ballpark. had to take a peek at the wall and then just sold out as he went back there and leapt up and took away extra bases and a potential couple more runs. Jumping right back into those counts.
Mart got it. There’s an Allstar catch. 110 off the bat of Dom Smith and Marte has snagged it for the first out. Step and a dive. Didn’t have much time. That ball was really smoked that time, but Catel right there to keep it out of right field.
