Miami Dolphins’ dysfunction timeline is big concern | Pro Football Talk | NFL on NBC
Speaking of the Dolphins who gave up Jaylen Ramsey and John Smith and brought back Mega Fitzpatrick who I believe wanted out when the Dolphins were trying to tank for Joe Burrow in 2019 and someone pointed out yesterday they were trying to tank for two. No, no, no, no. Tank for Tua was before the 2019 college season started and everyone realized that Joe Burrow was far better. Then it became we want Burrow not Tua. They ended up with Tua as the fifth overall pick. We thought he was going to be the first overall pick going into the 2019 season. Burrow became the clear consensus no-brainer number one overall pick. That’s who the Dolphins and Steven Ross wanted. Ross really wanted Joe Burrow and tried to trade for him and the Bengals refused to even engage the Dolphins in contract discussions, which I think in the abstract is stupid. In isolation, it’s stupid. You don’t know anything about whether or not this player is going to pan out. But the stubbornness paid off for the Bengals because they got the much better quarterback, the best quarterback in the class by far. I know Justin Herbert still has a hive of fans who overlook the fact that he’s accomplished nothing when it matters most, but Burrow clearly the best of the bunch. Anyway, back to the Dolphins. My friend Big Cat says dysfunctional teams do dysfunctional things. And what is dysfunction? Dysfunction is the failure to function properly. Think about the issues the Dolphins are dealing with in late June. Moving on from Jaylen Ramsay in late June, moving on from John Smith in late June, having to find another tight end in late June. Normally functioning organizations get this stuff taken care of before the league year begins when they can go out and they can sign another tight end. They can trade for another tight end. can draft another tight end. They get people there who are going to be part of the team and engaged in the offseason program. You handle all this business before we get to the end of the offseason program. At the latest, it’s handled at the draft. That’s what properly functioning teams do. Properly functioning teams don’t make a player the highest paid in the league at his position in September and decide seven months later they’re done with him. That’s not what properly functioning teams do. Properly functioning teams don’t pay a new contract to a receiver who who has a habit of blowing hot and cold about things and at the end of the season says I want out and then changes his mind and that uncertainty that vibe is still hovering over the team. The Dolphins right now, I’m sorry, shoe fits. Truth hurts. They’re dysfunctional. Can they find a way to function properly in 2025? Is it addition by subtraction to move on from Jaylen Ramsay and John Smith? Can they keep Tyreek Hill happy? Will someone make them an offer they can’t refuse for Tyreek Hill? I doubt it. I doubt it. Who’d want Tyreek Hill at this point? I don’t know. Maybe for one year. Maybe the Steelers want Tyreek Hill. Maybe maybe they can still, man. Tyreek Hill, Aaron Rogers, DK Medaf. That’d be something. Anyway, uh you know, Dolphins fans got mad when I put them, I think, at 29 in the post offseason program power rankings. I mean, as I said last week, somebody’s got to be 29, somebody’s got to be 30, somebody’s got to be one, somebody’s got to be eight, somebody’s got to be 14. That’s how it goes. Not big on ties in the power rankings. Everybody’s got to have a spot. I just don’t have a lot of hopes for the Dolphins this year. They could prove me wrong. Prove me wrong. I mean, I’m just giving you an honest assessment of where I think they are. And by virtue of the fact that they traded away Jaylen Ramsey and John Smith on June 30 and not March 15, that is a hallmark of a team that is currently dysfunctional. And if you don’t like it, Dolphins, I mean, again, prove me wrong or do things that don’t seem objectively dysfunctional.

They had to wait until June 1$t didn't they? Also for what it's worth – pre-ranking a team who has gone to the playoffs 2 out of last 3 years and only missed last year by a game (where they were w/o qb for 6) at 29 is a pretty horrendous take
Mike, tank for Tua was definitely still the Miami plan before the season started. Burrow did not show he was a 1st rounder until that season happened. Tua was easily the top ranked QB pre season
Been a Dolfan since 1966 (yes a very long time!). We need a better and different Owner and General Manager. Not sure, even still, if we have a good Coach. I feel that we have the Joe Robbie curse since the Dolphins logo was changed to the "Tooth Paste Dolphin" and we are not in the Joe Robbie Stadium. HAYE the logo and really dislike the Owner and GM. I don't see Miami winning more than 2-4 games this 2025 season. Just my 5 cents here…….
And they want us to buy tickets to this circus? 🤣🤣
So Mike, are you ready to call out Pittsburg as a dysfunctional team yet? Because by your definition, they most certainly are.
Your distain for the Dolphins is borderline unprofessional. You are still butt hurt that Tua bailed on your interview. Stop being such a crybaby about it. Mike McDaniel took us to the playoffs two out three years. he’s not on the hot seat.
So all his applies to the Steelers too right? 😂 I think Florio is being over the top on the Dolphins all offseason. I think with a signing like Samuel Jr or stephon Gilmore we're easily a 10-12 win team provided tua plays all 17. Happy to fly under the radar, roll on camp!
Non playing know it all
Florio HATES the dolphins so much 😂 rent free all day Mikey. 🐬
Hey, Mr Florio, wasn't there another team involved in the trade? Are they dysfunctional too?
Also, wasn't there contract and cap considerations involved?
That was kind of a "hack" of a take with no substance.
Mike you are absolutely right.
He left because of Flores goofy
"omg McDaniels is so good. He's a genius." Team implodes because of bad coaching and poorly managed ego. They're playing for a top five pick.
Who needs melatonin? Just watch 2 minutes of this video and out you go.
👀BIGCAT😱🫡🐬🆙
You people don’t understand between Tua and Reek there’s almost 80 million against the cap next year
Do one on the Steelers taking a washed up qb after june1
Man stop it they haven’t got on the dang field and your already saying we are dysfunctional there are a lot of other teams out there doing more questionable move then us just saying such a hater haha 😂
Miami dolphins underrated this year and I’m here for it fins up 🐬 🔥
Dolphins being dysfunctional.. is nothing new.. But the real story is the Steelers dysfunction. Dolphins are the winner in this one especially after they grabbed Waller which is low key crazy n exciting.
Miami 24
Minnesota 7
Super Bowl 8
Larry Czonka MVP
0-4 vikings in title game.
LOSING LIFETIME record to The Dolphins.
Miami 5th winningest team in NFL.
Ramsey and his $ entitled – z z is a piece of…….
Work.gone.
Fitz is a hammer.
Finsup!
Got Waller too!
Finsup.17-0 Forever 🎉 baby!
For the 29th ranked team in the league, you sure spend a lot of time talking about them.
