MLB LIVE🔴 Detroit Tigers vs Washington Nationals – Jul 2, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO

and welcome into the ballpark happy to have you with us inner league baseball on MLB the show it’s the Detroit Tigers and the Washington Nationals first pitch coming your way next washington National to get started here and our pitcher in this game Mitchell Parker
well he’s been a real quality starter for his club and coming into this one what stands out for me is that right-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 on the year it seems that they have a hard time picking up his release point and tracking the ball into the zone so we’ll see how right-handers do against him in this one he leading things off and takes a strike swing and a little roller right side bell takes it himself one out in the top of the first let’s take a check to the Tigers lineup and it’s clear the most important job they have today is getting to the starting pitcher early and often no doubt about that that’s the best way to disrupt a game but can they do it certainly something for us to pay attention to in this one partner
here’s Glamber Torres that one inside it’s one to0 and it’s fouled away one down base is empty so a foul ball makes it one and two the pitch good take by Torres
this guy’s a fun guy to watch taking at bat he just battles up there he doesn’t take a pitch off at all makes it so difficult on the pitchers out there you could tell they get frustrated with how long it takes to put him away here’s a high-fly ball out to center young in position corrals it two down two down base is empty and next up for the Tigers Carrie Carpenter good power not great in the OBP department just missed next offering is in for a strike just missed two out space is empty he’s great hitting the ball the other way and that pitch did a good job to straighten him up a bit mission accomplished and that one pulled foul sharp grounder that’s through for a base hit and that keeps the inning going 94 leftielder
here’s Riley Green
i’m liking what I’ve seen from him at the dish lately hitting better than 350 this month in the dirt
0 and one hit on the ground to short abs they take the force out out number three one left for Detroit and now the Nets get their first opportunity there’s no score it’s Major League Baseball and it’s on the show back here in Nationals Park and towing the slab Trick Scoo Singy he’s kind of a road warrior yeah
I definitely say so you know some guys shrink a little bit on the road they’re so used to just you know having the comforts of being at home and having the fans behind them but this guy seems to thrive in adversity and being in some hostile environment so when you have a player like this on your team that goes out there and competes you definitely like your chances away from your home ballpark cj Abrams leading things off and takes a strike well he didn’t like those first two pitches now in an 02 hole he’s going to have to battle hope he gets a mistake the 02 good eye right there
really good take especially with two strikes and a swing and a miss beat him with a fast ball
but that kind of velocity an elevated fast ball even if it’s still in the strike zone can be tough for hitters to get on top of james Wood the batter now as he swings and misses for strike one one out base is empty there’s the strike 95 of that one strike three and that’s two in a row that’s tough you see it well i mean that was clearly up and out of the strike zone but that’s one of the hardest things
and when you see a pitch out of the hand at eye level that discipline to remember I can’t hit that pitch if I can see it really well at eye level I can’t catch up to that pitch when a pitcher’s got this kind of velocity two outs one first two hitters get punched out on strikes take some notes from the dugout when you get your chance go up there and hit the ball hard somewhere line drive makes the play and it’s out number three and the Nationals gone in order scoreless after one back in Washington DC second inning set to go and here’s the first baseman Spencer Torqulson parker back to work fouled off down the right side ball one
dave Lawrence behind the plate today consistent and pretty accurate with the balls and strikes
yeah he’s one of those guys Spook that just keeps the game moving nothing overly unique about the strike zone that he calls and as a result he’s appreciated by both sides swang and a miss you
tie a guy up like that when you’re feeling like you are in command spoils a two strike pitch and he’ll see another
that wasn’t an easy pitch to hit it’s much easier to do damage against mistakes but that’s not what that pitch was
swing and a miss curve ball in the dirt beats him for the first out and that completes the strike out chris as we look back at the pitch sequence he hadn’t seen that curveball at all how tough is it to adjust to something like that with a bunch of break when you haven’t had a look at it yet
yeah I mean you’re dialed up for something firm you never want to take a called third strike as a fast ball so you’re going to be a little anxious before you recognize the pitch and right there clearly didn’t see what was coming
and now Zack McKinstry misses inside ball one second inning here no score and that’s in there for a strike and now it’s even
i got one ball one strike swing and a miss and he chases that one in the dirt
two strikes fights it off he’ll see another there’s a splitter in the dirt swing and a miss
gets to it on to first throw pulls him off the bag and he’s
saved i feel like that’s one of those rules in baseball that’s tough to explain the logic behind if you’re talking to a new fan or someone trying to learn the game it’s like wait what the batter struck out but he still gets to be on first base yeah I hear you it’s a weird one plus the pitcher gets credit for the strike out it’s an over for the batter but of course no out is actually recorded kind of one of those just trust house goes to second for one and that’s two one error in the inning but nothing more now to the bottom of the second no score bottom half of inning number two nathaniel Low up to hit nathaniel Low check swing no appeal and that’s ball one well we call that keyholeing even though it’s right there and looks pretty good if he doesn’t love it he’s not going to swing that early in the count
late swing fouled to the left fights that one away still one and two ground ball to the right side and that’s just fouled the wind the kick and the one two swing and a miss had him out front for the strike out well he hadn’t seen that change up the entire at bat until that putaway pitch and it’s pretty tough to deal with as a hitter you’re up there battling trying to read and react with two strikes and then all of a sudden a pitch comes out of nowhere and it’s a good change up it’s just almost impossible to hit it when you haven’t seen it
and now the switch hitting first baseman Josh Bell and there’s a strike good heater at 98 slice to right and foul ball fouled off the plate they’ll do it again one down base is empty way inside gets out of the way
got some cut action to it velocity pretty good on that slider so far moving the ball around nicely swings through it and that’s a strike out oh he’s really dialed in and this offense is going to have to do something to try to break that rhythm maybe it’s square around the bond step out of the box agitate him a little bit do something that just changes what’s happening right now because at this pace it’s going to be a long game so you got to figure it out quickly
here’s the rookie third baseman Brady House right through there for a strike that’s to third the throw to first three up three down inning over nationals go quietly we’ll move to the third with no score and we’re back well here we go top of the third scoreless game here’s the center fielder Parker Meadows outside low and that’s ball one
ball one no strikes and that’s a strike
one and one and he lays down a bunt garcia handles throws to first just got him and he was burning up the baseline now it’s Javier Bayz Sing you talk about a guy that has all the skills the range is really good but the arm just stands out and he makes all the plays clips the corner strike one and because of that big power arm he’s able to play a little bit deeper make throws from the outfield grass all the way across the diamond and still get a pretty good runner that’s impressive jav Bayz like fellow Puerto Rican Francisco Lindor born in Puerto Rico but was drafted in the first round out of high school in Florida hats and misses it’s a strike out
just couldn’t catch up on the low 90s fast right there and that’s a result of a good job of changing speeds off speed pitch on the one before then sped him up pitchers that don’t throw real hard have to rely on location and mixing up the speeds that wasn’t the best location with the fast but clearly that wasn’t the pitch he was looking for at the plate either keith takes a ball as he stands in for the second time next pitch misses and that’s ball two that’s ball three free ball no strike that clips the inside corner for a strike swinging a ground ball towards first but fouled that’s ball four tried another fast ball but missed the spot
one of the things about that two out walk the base runner over at first base is going to have a very aggressive secondary lead so a ball down the line or into the gap will produce a two out RBI and those are the best that is if you are the offensive side of it torres in the box now no balls in a strike keith off of first with two away labor swings drives one way back there that’s down one hops off the wall rounds third headed for the plate relay throw home it’s offline the run comes in and it’s one- nothing
a costly mistake in the outfield thanks to the bad read and terrible timing for that to happen that’s a play you just want to forget about carrie Carpenter the next to hit one for one with a single so far first pitch just misses runner at second two down we’re here in the top half of inning number three gets a piece there we’ll do it again two two count
in the dirt blocked two-2 now keeps the bat going with a foul ball ouch that one drilled him to first save
and runners at the corners after the infield single definitely some concern here that ball came back and got him right on the pitching arm as you can see him trying to shake it off and if nothing else you worry about him getting some dead arm and losing some feeling but from what I can tell I think they’re going to let him continue and that’s a really good sign
so two outs with runners on the corners and next will be the Tiger cleanup hitter Riley Green there’s the swinging events and one runners at the corners with two outs and a swing and a miss well Chris through the early stages he hasn’t been very efficient in terms of the pitch count he’s going to need to get some quick outs if he’s going to get deeper into this game lefty out of the stretch runners at first and third foul ball still 0 and two that one missed
man oh man i don’t know how you take that pitch that’s as close as it gets got him that ends the inning and they limit the damage sometimes he wears the emotion on the sleeve but that’s okay as long as he’s getting results and right there thrilled with the punch out to get out of a jam ready to go for the last half of the inning up now for Washington dalen Lyle and that one’s a little bit low ball one there’s the strike
i mean that’s perfect location right on the black i mean over and over again this guy demonstrates the ability to hit those spots that are so tough to do anything with as a hitter and that’s a little bit high and it’s two and two
just not taking the bait right there but a good pitch with two strikes hit in the air left field
and he’ll play it on a bounce that’s a ball that a lot of times you’ll see the shorts stop or left fielder be able to get to if it hangs up in the air long enough but right there it just died and found a way to drop in on the green stuff a base hit and now let’s see if they force some action with good wheels on the bases
and it’s the catcher for the Nationals Drew Millis check swing called strike and it’s 0 and one inside ball one he swings and hits a fly ball center field meadows makes the grab on the run they trust him in center field because he’s capable of making plays on the run and we saw it right there that’s a player you want patrolling center field someone who can attack the ball off the bat
jacob Young digging in for the Nationals third baseman playing on the edge of the grass looking for the sack bunt out to short into the outfield base hit they fired in quickly so it’s first and second with only one away
oh that started and ended pretty quickly no messing around right there he kind of rolled over on this pitch a little bit but he got enough behind it to shoot it through for a knock and he’ll take that anytime you can get him to find a hole
here’s CJ Abrams to hit struck out swinging his first time that one outside one and0 tying run and scoring position here in the last half of the third and that misses and the count is two and0
tough spot right here a couple runners on two ball count you can’t nibble but you have to execute and finish your pitch if you leave something out over the plate it’s going to bring in some runs
and it is two and one tapped at the plate but it’s a foul ball that missed by a lot counts full three and two james Wood in the deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here two on one out that ball is foul and the pressure is building and they’re all loaded up he’s making things difficult for himself right now out there on the mound but you know his confidence should still be high enough to get out of this but he’s going to have to buckle down right here wood in the box now takes strike one tough situation right here so important as a pitcher to get ahead in the count as he did right there oh one down downing ball here rolls foul fouls it back with two strikes lyle the runner at third young over at second abrams over at first so one away gets a piece and it stays 0 and two swing and a miss strike free that one came in at 99
well this is where the team aspect really comes into play on the offensive side of the game right i mean missed opportunity to tie it up with the runner at third one out couldn’t put the ball in play so now it’s time to pick him up and that’s where good teams they go to they operate on this level of next man up that mentality is what causes them to win series get into the postseason that helps keep the energy and morale high in the dugout
garcia swings through it for strike one the next pitch misses and the count is one and one and fouled off really going after him here all fast balls to get ahead in the count strike three got him swinging and that’s six Ks for him in this one well this guy competes hard we see the emotion there i love it great job of getting out of the jam and welcome back to the ballpark start of the fourth and now the first baseman Spencer Torqulson fought off foul well these Tigers doing a great job Boo of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way and I’m seeing very patient at bats out of him he’s only given up one run but the starter’s pitch count is starting to get up there and that might be the best news yet for this offense foul ball it stays nothing and two
you know sometimes all it takes is getting to the next arm before an offense does any damage and that might be the case today way outside count one and two outside with a breaking ball and now the count filled up three and two got him looking as the fast runs back over the inside corner really good battle right there and that final pitch probably could have gone either way he was hoping he’d get ball four instead the umpire rings him up for the backwards K popped in the air left field wood snags it for the second outer two outs space is empty and now Dylan Dingler 0 for one so far that’s a strike going on
wow just a beautiful back door slider right there if you’ve got any chance of hitting that pitch you have to wait until the absolutely last millisecond
just a tough pitch to hit and not an easy one to throw either
the 1-1 ripped on a line young makes the catch and that’ll do it down in order go the Tigers but they still lead it one- nothing bottom four now it’s the Nationals cleanup hitter Nathaniel
Lowated Nathaniel that one hooked foul you know these Nationals as this game goes on have to be more disciplined at the plate so many of their outs have come from weak contact on pitches they’re chasing outside of the strike zone you can’t do much of anything with those locations and that’s been true again today next offering is down low
two and one and as a pitcher when the hitters are swinging at everything you feel no need to challenge inside the zone you just keep working the corners and expanding that strike zone and beyond and they just keep eating right out of your hand sends it to first and one gone in the fourth as they get the lead off man here’s Josh Bell struck out swinging his first time starts him with a breaking ball but that’s a pitch he’s really comfortable hitting can’t rely on breaking stuff to be automatic out pitches against him just off the inside edge almost got him
one strike that one fouled off two and two got him looking make it seven strikeouts for him quite the start to this game on the mound looking very dangerous to these hitters seven punch outs already so this lineup hasn’t had much success trying to figure him out i’m impressed with what we’re seeing here house at the plate and takes high there and another ball two down nobody on we’re here in the bottom of the fourth just missed
nasty back door slider there’s really nothing you can do with that if you swing at it so that’s a good take by him
that’s a walk went with another change up but missed the spot definitely lost the handle during that sequence four pitches for the walk and that last one didn’t even threaten the zone catcher might want to go talk to him
digging in it’s the speedy outfielder Dalen Lyall and that one hit 97 on the gun
well he’s been incredibly efficient in this one first pitch strike percentage over 70% that’s well above league average and that’s what’s allowed him to pitch well up to this point house off of first with two away one ball two strikes to count foul ball still a one and two count two outs swing and a pop off in foul ground catcher tosses the mask settles under it squeezes it and the inning is over nationals leave one they still trail one- nothing back here in Nationals Park new inning getting started and now here’s a speed threat outfielder Parker Meadows parker back to work and ball one ripped in the air left field and it’ll touch down for a base hit man aboard on the leadoff single the batter now Javier Bayz his first at bat was a strikeout swinging a foul straight back if they did a poll of top tattoos in Major League Baseball Jav Bayz I think would have to be in the top five right on the back of his neck is the Major League Baseball logo so it’s effectively right under the MLB logo that’s on his cap and a foul ball that one way outside and the count is one and two chases that one out of the zone so he picks up his six strike out of the ball game
he’s locked in at the plate when he’s using the whole field he was out in front there just needs to let the ball travel a little more and his timing will be back on track good pitch for the strikeout colt Heath up now for the Tigers he’s 0 for one there’s the strike oh and one right through there for a strike no ball two strikes man at first one away curve in the dirt
two straight that’s ball two two balls two strikes knocks that one away and we’ll do it again step off throw to first
be safe three and two
so here we go base runner at first could be running on the pitch he’s got good enough speed to steal the bag to get in scoring position even if it’s a swing and miss at the plate
got him swinging and he’s up to seven strikeouts
oh interesting he’s looking very comfortable out of the stretch after giving up the leadoff single back to back strikeouts so they haven’t been able to move that runner up get him into scoring position and try to have a better chance of scoring i tell you good job so far on the mound he just needs one more out
here is Glabber Torres come on you need to win come on let’s win and that one clips the corner
if he’s going to steal second
you want him to go early in the count that way he’s not a distraction to the hitter at the plate go ahead and get it out of the way so the hitter can focus on the pitch and that one is inside ball one
one ball one strike out towards left center young moving under it he’s got it and that’ll do it tigers leave one they lead it one- nothing back in Washington DC we head to the bottom of the fifth leading off Drew Millis that’s in for a strike that was just paint on the first pitch fast ball check swing and he went no balls two strikes
no balls two strikes and there’s a ball
i don’t think he was trying to miss by that much in 02 count just tried to overthrow that pitch swing and a miss struck him out
oh there he gets the slider in on his hands and it just eats him off you know it’s hard to get the bat around on a pitch like that in tight you just feel like you’re crowded on the inside part of the plate can’t get any extension that’s one he definitely should have laid off of jacob Young digging in for the Nationals foul ball there bunting for a hit he pops it up mckinstry racing over to make the catch well he gave the bunt a shot there but not able to execute
yeah I think he rushed it a little bit and when guys rush can be a popup or can be bunted right back at a position player abrams lays off down low as he digs in for the third time
the Nationals trailing by a run last half of inning number five wine drive and that’s base hit out into left center field takes the turn he’s digging for second the throw in and now the tying run is into scoring position well here we are third time through the order and this is where we see the OPS jump up manager might have to go to the bullpen a little bit sooner than he anticipated so runner at second two down and now up for Washington jameswood 0 for two in this one and that one fouled off
as a pitcher you know the runner on second is ready to push things with this speed a base hit is probably going to be a big run so you really have to execute on the mound two outs puts it in the air out towards left center drops into the glove and that ends the inning still nothing on the scoreboard for him after five it’s the Tigers one and the Nationals nothing now a right-handed arm out of the bullpen trevor Williams
well he’s been excellent against left-handed hitters this year and that’s his first test this looks like a good move to the pin in terms of the matchup so digging in Carrie Carpenter he’s two for two strike on the inside corner action in the pen down there number 61 the rookie right-hander is getting loose tap foul at the plate not close with that one going to count one and two swing and a miss stuck came out chase the basketball up the ladder for strike three no messing around with the pitch calling in that sequence right there four pitches all fast balls
yeah and that makes me think that was the plan before the at bat even started if you think you can simply just beat a guy with only your fast ball why throw him anything else until he shows you he can handle it and next to hit for Detroit Riley Green top of the zone for a strike 0 and one green goes 6′ 3 in 24 years old a former first round pick back in 2019 up the middle oh nice play from his knees the throw and he gets him nicely done
well you can see right there he looks very comfortable going to the backhand nice diving stop gets up to complete the play that’ll fire the team up for sure spencer Torqulson up now for the Tigers and first offering is fouled off hit hard to the ground and up the middle base hit so a two out knock keeps the inning alive i’m sure he feels really good about that one timing on the swing was good able to shoot the ball up the middle didn’t square it up as much as he probably would have liked but that’s a good approach paying off
zack McKinstry up now for the Tigers mckinstry struggling on the road this season better results at home and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter oh and he hit her now catcher
and here’s the catcher Dylan Dingler and a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike
two aboard two outs that’s a ball in for a strike and now just one pitch away from surviving the inning fouls it off still one and two squirts away a little bit
the tag at third and he’s out they don’t come much closer than that bang bang play to end the inning no runs one hit no errors and a man left hard of the order 345 coming up it’s the Tigers one and the Nationals nothing luis Garcia digging in for the Nationals luis Garcia towards first torqulson leadoff man retired in the six
oh he’s doing a nice job of keeping the ball out of the air lets the defense work behind him with another ground ball good execution
here’s Nathaniel Low just missed the Nets down by a run here in the bottom of the sixth there’s the strike stays alive next pitch is outside outside corner got him looking
well really nice job of finishing the hitter off right there glove side command fast ball firm to the outside corner tell you what very difficult to do anything with that pitch even if you do swing josh Bell at the plate now who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts that’s through there for a strike inside just missed boo he never moved cuz he never had time to with that kind of velocity you’d prefer that pitcher work away ground ball left side throw on to Tolson nats go down one two three nothing doing it for Washington and it remains one- nothing so they turn things over to the righty number 61 well he’s been a really tough guy to take deep this season you usually have to string some hits together in order to get to them now here’s the Detroit catcher Dylan Dingler first pitch and he just misses turned on but foul wide of third not even close there and that’s ball two back to back breaking pitches away you get the feeling as a hitter that the pitcher is afraid of you that he doesn’t want to challenge you so I think the confidence level is raised right here fouls one off two and two i wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball try to go again with a fast ball slightly elevated he just having a hard time catching up two- two on the way and a foul ball he stays alive on the ground to third oh can’t pick it up cleanly parker Meadows digs in now strike one all one’s the count that’s foul off to the right side keeps the AB going ooh missed a mistake right there that’s a little bit low rudder at first with no outs here that one not close the countdown two and two backed off the plate that time
still just the second batter of the inning and on the mound he’s already thrown 13 pitches they got him working hard out there in the air to left center wood on the move he’s got it and there’s one away oh those can be pretty fun as an outfielder got to put it into his highest gear and go a long way to track that one down nothing better than that you feel like a wide receiver playing football
jav Bayz digs in right side first pitch and that’s in for a strike one-run game one out one on next offering is in for a strike
don’t play situation here he’s been working up in the zone typically you look for guys to get that ground ball see if he adjusts on this next pitch ground ball could be two he’s in there he’s in there he’s safe well that extra step before getting rid of it really should have caused him to throw the ball across the diamond to first base he tries to force it to second and now both runners are safe two on one out next to the plate is the Tigers DH Colt Keith highf fly ball down the left field line calls it in two away that is Torres here’s Glabber Torres swing and a foul out of play a defensive swing right there some cheese on the inside part of the plate bet the hands are still stinging after that one strike two and there’s a real chance they get out of this without allowing the run and one and two
that’s a really good take first and second two down here in the top half of inning number seven next pitch misses way outside battling here as he fouls it away two on two outs up the middle nice grab to first and he beats it everyone’s safe wow he did everything he could on that play with the throw from his knee but the hustle down the line was enough to earn him the infield knock and that’s a great baseball play all the way around so bases all loaded up carrie Carpenter up now for the Tigers swing and a popup foul territory for the catcher makes the grab and that’s the third out so they get out of the bases loaded jam without any damage and that does it for the inning midway in inning number seven and it’s time to stretch it’s the Tigers one and the Nationals nothing well one-run game up now for Washington brady House fast gets the inside corner at the knees activity in the bullpen grant Carter getting loose for AJ Hinch canley the right-hander loosening up as well looking to get the tying run on base that’s a strike and a count is 0 and two well he’s gotten ahead with two pitches down in the zone he has plenty of options right here he can go up he can go away he can add velocity he can subtract down to the dirt swing and a miss in time to get him one away in the strike out a big first out here in the seventh via the punch out
yeah it just does so much to change the outlook of an important inning like this when you got the leadoff hitter so critical in setting the table when you got a tight game like this so a strikeout really puts them on their heels
dalon Lyle digging in for the Nationals swinging a miss strike one
trying to keep good speed off the bases trying to hold a one-run lead here in the bottom of the seventh and that is out of play swings and misses struck him out
really love the pitch sequence right there i’m telling you what pitcher and catcher are on the same page right now drew Millis will hit next fast for a strike
all ones the count that clips the corner
well I’m impressed with that challenge pitch right there even with this slim lead this guy’s not afraid to go right after these hitters way upstairs one and two to the cow nope that’s off the plate ball two that one just misses jacob Young in the deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here right side carpenter settles under this one he makes the grab and that is the inning jose a Ferrer takes over on the mound
he doesn’t get a lot of strikeouts compared to other relievers so he relies on getting that soft contact and the defense doing work behind him they’ll have to be on their toes with him on the bump
well one-run game now here’s the Tigers cleanup hitter Riley Green 0 for three in this one just missed one and that one wrapped foul right side takes it himself first out in the top of the eighth
well he didn’t recognize change up earlier enough got out in front a little bit rolled over on it and beat it into the ground
so up next Spencer Torqulson one for three
taken high in the draft he’s had that top prospect label over him since he put on a professional uniform but at some point that starts to go away and you’ve got to produce at the big league level swings through that one 0 and one double barrel action in the bullpen mike Soka looks to be getting ready for Dave Martinez brixie getting loose as well next offering is fouled back and a base hit up the middle so a man aboard now with one away now batting third base
and now here is Zack McKinstry first pitch misses here goes the runner on the ground to third house tosses to first no chance at the double play with the runner in motion that’s what a good sinker is designed to do get a guy to roll over a little bit hit the ball on the ground kill some worms while you’re at it
dylan Dingler up now for the Tigers and that one in there at the knees for a strike it’s 01 that’s down and in runner at second two down and we’re in the top of the eighth that’s off the mark and a count two and one hit on the ground to short abs slings it across that’s out number three one hit one left last half of the eighth coming up it’s the Tigers one and the Nationals nothing new pitcher for the Tigers Grant Cerder well the best relievers love the opportunity to come in and protect the tight lead late in the ball game some of them are just wired different so we’ll see what he’s got here jacob Young digging in for the Nationals one for two jacob and that one fouled off the 01 and he grounds one to the right side torqulson steps on the bag and that’s one away as the leadoff man is out in the eighth
that’s why you hug the lines on the corners late in the ball game like this positioned perfectly
here’s CJ Abrams now corner infielders guarding the lines trying to prevent extra bases this one in the air two down james Wood next to hit for the Nets james Wood a pair of strikeouts and he’s flyed to center this one chopped on the ground but foul holding on to a one-run lead near the bottom half of the eighth inning next offering way off the plate
no no signs of wavering on the mound here in the eighth he’s looking rock solid so far that one just misses and it’s two and two on the ground of first Torqulson throws to first in time and it’s a one two three inning no runs no hits no errors ninth inning coming up it’s the Tigers one and the Nationals nothing parker Meadows up now for the Tigers ferrer back to work and first offering is fouled off ferrer in his second season he features a sinker a change up a four seamer and he works in a slider cuts and misses it’s a strike out
wow just great bite to that slider broke hard out of the zone and he just couldn’t hold up the swing you know as a hitter that pitch is really hard to take and there’s just not much you can do with it you know that but you don’t want to get rung up by the umpire bayz the next to hit takes outside to short abrams zips it to first bayz going on the play colt two down base is empty colt Keith up now for the Tigers not looking like they’ll be adding any insurance runs heading into the bottom of the ninth so it’s going to be on the bullpen to hold this lead high in the air out to right and that is that three up three down for him there height of the order 345 will get their shot in the bottom of the ninth it’s the Tigers one and the Nationals nothing so the closer summoned from the bullpen will vest and we all know about his slider it’s just filthy man and one of the better ones in the game I’d say spin rate’s very high and it just breaks a ton and now it’s Luis Garcia so important to stay within yourself especially for this hitter not known to be a power guy or a home run hitter he needs to set the table by getting on with a walk or a base hit yeah that’s fouled off one-run game bottom nine
and that’s in for a strike 0 and two now and that’s downed away
two strike misses now two and two
two balls two strikes swing and a miss struck him out pulled the string on the change up
well the first batter it’s always a big one for the closer i mean you get that punch out you get settled in you feel like you’re in command out there on the mound from the jump and kind of prevents any doubt from creeping into your mind or the fielders that are playing behind you that you know you’re going to wrap this thing up low in the box now as he leaves that one up high
one and0
a oneun lead the home team trying to pull it out next offering is download foul well you put good velocity in the head of the hitter he’s got to get it ready early and then change speeds keep him off balance that’s the goal cold out on strikes
down to the last out for the Nationals
oh it’s kind of tough right here closer comes in and he strikes out the first two hitters it’s hard not to feel defeated and that this is going to go quickly but you got to go up there maybe trying to find a way to choke up on the bat spread out put the ball in play and maybe you can extend this inning so it’s their last chance in this one josh Bell digging in for the Nationals as the Nationals are down to their final out that one finds the zone that’s strike one swinging a foul back and that’s out of play the Nationals down to their final strike three got him and that’s the ball game well this one was all about the pitching and defense it’s outstanding job of the pitchers really attacking hitters trusting what the catcher was putting down and trusting the players standing behind him to make the plays defensively sometimes you want to see a high-scoring game but sometimes you can appreciate the artistic beauty of what these pitchers did on the mound today
and a one- nothing final score here in this one for Chris Singleton and our entire crew here at MLB the show thanks for stopping by i’m John Shami talk to you soon
