How surprising is it that Boeser stayed in Vancouver?
And a busy day for the Canucks. Brock Besser, this was a shocker, returning to the Conucks on a seven-year deal with a 7.25 million cap hit. The biggest deal of the day. Everyone thought he was headed out the door. He sticks around. Besser has scored 20 plus goals in six of his first nine National Hockey League seasons. And more good news for Canox fans. Vancouver inking Thatcher Demco to a three-year extension, an AAV of 8.5 million. Demco an injury plagued season last year, but it was runner up for the VZNA in 23-24. When the new AAV kicks in, it’ll be tied for third highest among all NHL goalenders. And and the Canucks were busy. They also agreed to a six-year deal with Connor Garland. An AAV of 6 million. Garland 50 points in 81 games last year. Was scheduled to be a UFA after this season. Here’s Patrick Alvine on Brock Besser. Tim, you know, he he earned his way to get to uh UFA. Uh but he was always uh open to see uh the fit and and the role. And after talking to Adam Foot here a couple of weeks ago, the expectations and uh what he thought that he could contribute more to and uh how we wanted to play. And uh he was excited uh with those other guys coming back. and uh and uh we uh re-engaged and um got the deal done. So, I’m uh very uh very happy. Time to take a casual stroll over the Jonite Lounge where Frankie Curado, our NHL analyst, is hanging out after working all day on free agent frenzy. How do we get so lucky? You’re working double time.
I got a little outfit change. I love fresh.
I love it. You look good. You look sharp. You’re at the big board all day. the touch screen. Yeah, we were working it, man. John King style.
John King style. Exactly. Let’s talk about Brock Besser. First of all, he’s got to fire his agent. How do you not sign an eight-year deal with your own team? I don’t get it.
You know what, though? But I think it was the fact that the five-year deal was on the table earlier on, so at least you squeezed two more out of it. Yes, you didn’t get the eight years, but he’s coming back. He’s a Vancouver Canuck, and that’s big for that team. And ultimately, that’s a place where he wanted to be. Thatcher Dempo’s there, Garland’s there, like Quinn Hughes is still around. They need to get the best out of Elias Patterson in order for that team to truly be successful this season. But he’s back in a familiar territory where he’s comfortable and hopefully some better seasons ahead for him and the team. I mean, it went from what was looking like a disastrous off season for the Vancouver Conucks. They lose Rick Tocket. You JT Miller’s already gone to well, Demco extends. Uh we knew Connor Garland was probably going to extend, but the best thing shocking. Uh now the question though is with Demco extending those three years, you’ve got Kevin Lankan in on a five-year deal already. Uh you have Archer Sheiloffs, the Calder Cup MVP, and you got a lot of teams that need goalenders. Do you see the Conucks making a move soon?
You would have to think so, but if I’m the Vancouver Conucks, I just don’t want to feel rushed into making that move because you still have to see how does Thatcher Demco look and how does he feel? Is he truly healthy? Can he handle the rigors of a long regular season? And if he can’t, well then, you know, you’re probably not best suited to move out a goalender. I think a lot of what Vancouver does in the crease is going to hinge on what is Thatcher Demco’s status. Now, at least you have a pretty good insurance plan in Kevin Lankin and you have some term there and he was really good in the first half of the season and Archer Sheil like that could be the guy moving forward if Demco is not necessarily at the level you think he should be at or the health he should be at. But I think you you have to kind of see what he looks like before you make any kind of decision in the crease because if he’s not healthy and he can’t with hold up for a whole season then you have your two guys in place at least. But for their sake and for his sake hopefully he’s healthy. He’s one of the best most exciting goalies to watch in the NHL when he’s on his game.
No question. Everybody I think agrees with you on both points. And how about the Evon Oilers? Late July the 1st, they signed forward Andrew Mioani to a two-year deal, an AAV of 3.6 million. The bread boy going back to Alberta. Spent the first seven years of his career with the Flames. 14 goals, 14 assists, and 81 games last season with the Caps. The Oilers get Miaani, but three forwards have left oil country. Cory Perry to the Kings, Connor Brown to the Devils, Victor Arvdson traded to the Bruins for cap space on July the 1st of Ander Kane traded to the Canucks last Sweet.
How surprising is it that Brock Boeser has re-signed for seven years in Vancouver? Will the Canucks deal one of their three goalies? TSN Hockey analyst Frankie Corrado joins SC with Jay Onrait to break it down.

Perry to the Kings, will the Kings finally beat the Oilers in the playoffs with perry there beating his former team lol
He's back
Boeser staying not shocked because I think his agent knew he would not get anything close outside of Vancouver. Dissapointed he was taken back when we have harder working rookies to bring up for much much less cap hit. This is a low value, medium potential return to keep Hughes happy.
No one team in NHL has traded top player. Only Toronto. Attention to everyone Will Toronto able to make postseason in 2026???? .Without Marner unlikely 😢
I was bracing for Boes to leave but I am sooo happy he’s staying with Vancouver. The guy is a stellar goal scorer, very hard, if not impossible to replace
Enough penning and talking
It is time to win a cup!
"If I told you what I was offered for Boeser, I would have to run out of here because you would not believe me"
He knows in Vancouver they get extra days off when it comes to playoffs ❤🎉
Why on earth were the Canucks needing to extend Demko now? He was already under contract for the coming season, there are tons of questions surrounding his durability and performance, so why not wait and see how the season goes?? You just did that exact thing with Boeser.
all the reporters looking stupid after saying the canucks made a mistake in not trading boeser at the deadline and lying to the fans saying he was gone for sure. on top of that linking him to two team that would trigger canuck fans the most (boston and edmonton). signed at noon before anyone else could even talk to him.
Surprised TSN knows the Canucks/Pacific Division/ Western Conference/ League other than the leafs are still playing.
The uncertainty of Boeser and Demko raised so many questions & concerns. glad Vancouver now has a sense of security knowing their 40-goal scorer and number one starting goalie are both staying on the team. Huge
If they want to see if Demko is healthy before fully committing, what will they do with Silovs? He’s not going to clear waivers. Three goalie platoon? Have Demko be a platoon goalie, at his cap hit? I don’t think Silovs is factor moving forward. As much as I would like him to be, I think they have to trade him.
He liked the Vancouver sushi.
Finaly Canucks are cooking
Teams looking solid all sudd3n
Surprised paid Demko that
Among all the amazing moves Canucks has been making recently. Resigning Boeser is probably one of the best decisions for this team.
Great to see Boeser staying. He got a fair deal, and the canucks got a loyal, reliable locker room guy.
Boeser’s one of the few offensive threats they have, esp if EP40 doesn’t get back to form. Vancouver have a handful of promising prospects, but they’re not ready to shoulder the team.
Welcome back Brock, Vancouver loves you! 🤗🥰
