This is the Tigers Post Cast, your instant game reaction for the Detroit Tigers, part of the Locked On Podcast Network, your team every day. I mean, what a way to start a double header. The Detroit Tigers dominate all over the Washington Nationals 11-1 in game one of the double header. Welcome into a live locked on Tigers postcast. I am your host Jake Reman. You can follow me on Twitter, Jake_REMA, formerly with the Detroit Tigers flagship radio station 971 the ticket. Now with Lockdown Sports Detroit couldn’t be more fired up for the Lockdown Tigers postcast. It’s your postgame destination for all things Detroit Tigers. What are we breaking down today? How about Riley Green? Bombs away. Two homers in this one. And the offense in general. Just an offensive explosion. Incredible stuff. It was a nice bullpen day as well. We’ll look ahead to game two. I’ll have my biggest talking point, our turning point, and of course, our player of the game. So, buckle up, dial it in, fire up that comment section because this is not just about me. It’s about everybody here on our Lockdown Tigers postcast community. Let your voice be heard in the comments section. What’ you think of this one? And here we go. We begin with first and foremost I should also add missed you guys the last two days. I mean off day followed by a rain is up with that. We can’t have that. And so I appreciate the patience and perseverance to get back to a game day and hey we’ll have a double header today. So two lockdown tigers postcast. But that being said we begin where we always do. our biggest takeaway from this one. And it doesn’t take a mastermind. It doesn’t take a baseball genius to know where we’re going on this one.
This is what you’ll be talking about. You talk about starting a series with a bang. How about six runs in that first inning. 11 batters to the plate. Riley Green homering a three-run homer where it looked like he literally one-handed it out of here. if that’s a, you know, really a complex baseball term there. Just onehanded it like a like a tennis racket and found the found the seats in this one. Um, you also got to give a lot of credit to the offense continuing to keep the lineup card moving. And how about Jake Rogers? First home run of the season. Are you kidding me? A little oppo taco three-run dong in the top of the first and before the Nationals even came to bat, it’s a six nothing game. So, great stuff there. And hey, this is a Tigers team that there’s a lot to get excited about. I say it time and time again. But if you’re like me, you were just watching that first half of the double header, just enjoying some popcorn, maybe some wonderful pistachios. I don’t know. You’re just sitting back and enjoying gr grinning ear to ear watching this Tigers team just absolutely dominating. And again, felt like this one was over after the first inning with the Tigers putting up six in that home half of the first. And and I I know I mentioned the two guys that uh had the big swings for the back or the three-run homers with Riley Green and um Jake Rogers, of course. But the way this game started, how about Ke Colt Keith with a double to left. You get Glaver Torres drawing a walk and then Riley Green comes through with the three-run homer. Spencer Tolson restarts the rally. Start it back up again with the single to left. Zack McKinstry, another big day for him. Three hits in the ball game. And Jake Rogers coming through with the three-run homer with McKinstry and Torqulson on. And uh oh, by the way, you know, Sweeney singled in the in that inning. Colt Keith two hits in an inning. That’s pretty impressive stuff. So that first inning literally had it all. And it’s easy when you get a big lead like this to kind of check out from the pitching side of things because hey, you’re pitching with a six-run lead, right? But I think the way this game set up as a bullpen day, we still had our eyes on the pitching staff very closely and Tyler Holton looked much much better in his two innings of work. Um and and if you were dialed into the playbyplay, obviously Jason Benetti and um Dan Petri Peaches with him this time around does such a great job of pointing out where pitchers are having success and how Holton was able to keep that ball on the uh corners and and avoid middle and avoid what had been getting him in so much trouble throughout the course of this season as far as in his inability to command pitches. And the same can be said with Brandt Herder. I mean, Brent Herder came in and looked so much better than he had. Yes, he gives up the one earned run, but two and a third um gives up four hits, but was able to pitch around the traffic and only the one earned run. He struck out five in two and two/3. So, he was getting that swing and miss as well. Um, throw in Tyler Owens there. Loves some some the beard, the long hair, the the Jesus look. It’s all good. And then uh Dylan Smith there um who’s actually going to get credit with the win in this one. Um Dylan Smith just takes it the rest of the way. Three and a third. And I know again the game’s in the balance and you’re working towards the second game of a double header. But at the same time, you can’t overlook the pitching staff performance today to hold the Washington Nationals to one run on a bullpen day. And the offense did more than its fair share to ensure a lopsided blowout win. You got to love it. Let’s get to that comment section. A lot of people want to talk in this one. And why not? We love a good Tigers day victory postcast, a day game, a postcast during the day. And oh, by the way, more fun scheduled later tonight. So Jason Walter leads us off. Riley Green needs that money, needs to get paid. Demetrius McNeel is up next. We are informed that Sunday, July 20th, Tigers play the Texas Rangers. Will be Sunday night baseball. Big day for Riley Green. And hey DJ, play that song. We’re going all over the place with this one, Demetrius McNeel, but you know, I love you and I appreciate those comments. Yes, Sunday Night Baseball Tigers Rangers later in the month was confirmed. Look forward to that one at Globe Life Field. Maybe I’ll just have to meander on over to Globe Life Field in Arlington and check it out. Brilland Dennis is up next. Utter Domination from start to finish. Very well said, Brilland Dennis. Riley Green, two bombs in one game. I mentioned that. Not only that, but I tweeted this out. But Riley Green had two home runs and six RBI by the fourth inning. Just crazy stuff. Gray matter. Riley Green when is the last time Tiger with over 300 at bats this season. Touched on a 900 OPS. Feels like it’s been a minute. Yeah, I would believe it has been a while. In fact, I think they were touching on something to that effect. I’ve got the postgame show on in the background, but I’m obviously not dialed into exactly what that stat might be. But great stuff from the Detroit Tigers today. An absolutely impressive herculean effort from the offense. Great to see. And you for the national side of things, you got to you got to dust it, you know, um dust yourself off and try and get ready for game number two in a day that they used um four pitches. And again, it settled down a little bit after the onslaught of runs with uh 10 in the first four innings. And the Tigers finished with 11 total. But my goodness, um this offense just so so good. And and I know uh I mentioned the first inning parade, but in that third inning, the um or in the fourth inning, Riley Green gets that second home run, a three-run bomb, and then oh yeah, Spencer Tolson for good measure as well. That was a torque bomb. I mean, that was a no doubt about her for sure. All right, let’s keep the lights on here. You know where we’re going next. We’ve got our player of the game. We’ve got our biggest turning point, I believe. Yes, our biggest turning point. And of course, we’ll look ahead to game number two of the double header. So, don’t go anywhere. We’re cruising right along in a live lockdown Tigers postcast that saw your Detroit Tigers absolutely from start to finish over the Washington Nationals. With the win, the Tigers continue that best record in baseball. Never get tired of saying that. 54 and 32, 24-8 on the road this year. And we all know how good they’ve been at home. Great stuff from the Detroit Tigers offensively, pitchingwise, and now it becomes about turning the page quickly, obviously with the format of a double header. One more game later tonight, and winning a series in a day, and obviously with the expectations that you have when you’re the best team in baseball. This is just par for the course, as they would say. That uh exactly what you expected to do, and they went out and executed. Now, before we get to our preview of game number two, let’s get into our turning point.
Time to reveal where the game was won or lost. It’s the turning point. Well, you guys know my old cliche in this one. This game turned when the Tigers took the field when the when when it was a leadoff double by Colt Keith in the top of the first inning, first batter of the game. That’s when this game turned. I mean, it was an offensive hit parade from the very beginning. So, I’ll just go ahead and classify it and summarize by saying when this Tigers offense took complete control of the ball game in the top half of the first, that was our turning point. I mean, again, this is it doesn’t take a baseball genius and a rocket sign. Something I’m not of either, but I love the Detroit Tigers and I love the way they jumped on the opposition. And in particular, it was the longest first inning uh pitch-wise for anybody in the majors this season. And so Trevor Williams can wear that crown proudly or not so proudly in this case. But uh hey, we’ve we’ve talked a lot when this Tigers team jumps out early on the opposition, how good they are, how tough they are. And you get two three-run home runs in the top of the first inning. And I’m sorry, you’re going to feel pretty good about the west the rest of the contest and the way it all plays out. So that’s your turning point. How about a little player of the game? This is the locked on player of the game. Easy choice in this one because let me tell you, Riley Green and again I tweeted this out, he’s a bonafide star and I don’t feel bad saying that. He’s earned that. The numbers prove it. And I know like sometimes we like to really dive into the uh uh an analytics of of his swing and how it has such a steep uppercut, steeper than anybody’s swing, and it’s a pretty swing from the left-hand side of the plate. But let’s just talk results. I mean, six RBI, the two three-run homers, and five at bats. He just continues to pace this Tigers offense. And I thought his interview on Sunday Night Baseball a couple nights ago and uh gosh, the last time the Tigers played baseball, Sunday Night Baseball because of the uh off day and then rain delay, but he just said, you know, he I think he was representative of how this whole team feels. They don’t care who’s raking and who’s providing the production. They just care about winning and the the chemistry, the camaraderie in the in the clubhouse. All of it just seems to be at an all-time high. And I think Riley Green is one of those guys that exudes that with this team. Terooel another. And and when your best players are also your your most team guys and and your hardest workers and every other cliche that every coach has ever said, that’s what makes great teams. And yes, obviously we’re not even to the All-Star break yet, but we’re over halfway through the season as far as number of games that have been played. And it would just be it would be shocking if this team just doesn’t continue to do what they’ve done all season. And I’m not even trying to speak that into existence, so don’t take it for that. But when Riley Green goes out and has the type of performance he has today, it’s just a great reminder that uh this team is in a great spot and connecting in all cylinders. You got to give Scott Harris a lot of credit, AJ Hinch a lot of credit, who I’ve been critical of again and happy to be wrong. And it wasn’t that I was not optimistic about the potential of this team and realizing that potential, but that’s what idiots like me that yell into a microphone for a living do sometimes. You know, you wondered how it was all going to come together, but man, in this point in the season on July 2nd, I just remember where this team was over the 4th of July last year. I believe they’re playing the Houston Astros and or maybe it was the Minnesota Twins. Might have been the Minnesota Twins. Whatever it was, they had lost some games in a row. Kent Miata is getting shelled on a regular basis and what a difference uh that this team has been really since the trade deadline last year and we can all agree with that. Um just based on the production performance and and how great they’ve been at Kria Park, going to games at Coma Park, the list goes on and on. But I’m rambling a little bit. My apologies. So, I appreciate uh the patience as I ramble about how much I love this Detroit Tigers team and the Detroit Tigers in general. But let’s look at game number two because we’ve got more fun scheduled for later on tonight. It’s a 6:45 Eastern time first pitch. Jack Flity going for the Nationals. Flity 5 and N 4.80 ERA and 100 strikeouts. We know it’s been a little bit more of a rockier start to the season and uh I mean I guess you can’t say start to the season anymore because like I just said we’re past the halfway point but still want to see the Jack Flity that we saw at a consistent basis last year. Mackenzie Gore meanwhile 3 and8 3.09 RA 129 strikeouts. So the Nationals desperately need a good start. Hopefully that Tigers offense can continue to jump on the opposing starting pitcher early and often. Look forward to the postcast after that one. Thanks as always for tuning into this one. Make sure you like and subscribe. Go ahead and tell a friend about the Lockown Tigers post, your postgame destination free postgame show. Your comments are heard, my comments are heard. It’s always a pleasure talking Tigers baseball as the Tigers dismantle the Washington Nationals 11 to1 in game one of the series. They go for the series win in the double header later tonight. Talk to you then.
