How have the Los Angeles Angels managed to be .500 this season? #RepTheHalo #GoHalos #Angels #LTBU

Mike, the stats that got you to say, “How is this team 500 last week were these? Second worst K percentage at 26.3%, third worst walk rate at 7.4%.” So, how have the Angels been able to be 500 with those kinds of results when they aren’t striking out? They’re actually making great contact. The Angels only sit behind the Yankees in barrel percentage with 11.2% barrel rate. Now, the reason barrels are considered the best kind of contact is because more often than not, they result in line drives, extra base hits, and home runs. Let’s take it one step further, if you will. Let’s talk Wobacon.
Like ComicCon, is that
kind of Oh, that’d be a fun baseball event. Wobacon. Let’s go. So, Wobacon is WOBA weighted on base average, but only on contact, hence the con, right? So it removes strikeouts and walks completely from the equation. So the Angels wicon is 382. That’s good for fifth in the league behind the Yankees, the Dodgers, Tigers, and Red Sox. But Mike, their expected wicon 414 just behind the Dodgers and the Yankees. So the Angels when they make contact have really good quality contact and their Wicon is good for fifth in the league. If you took luck out of the equation, they would be at 414. You know, sometimes you hit a line drive right at Matt Chapman, and he’s a really good third baseman, right? And most guys don’t make that play, but he does. The Angels are making great quality contact. When they make contact, remember the walk rate, strikeout rate, not great, but when they do make contact, they actually should have really good results. So again, it’s a little bit of luck, a little bit of unluck, half and half, 50/50. In other words, Michael
500 500.
