MLB LIVE🔴 San Francisco Giants vs Oakland Athletics – Jul 4, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
And welcome in everybody. Glad you’re with us. Fourth of July baseball coming at you. It’s the San Francisco Giants going up against the Athletics. First pitch coming your way next. Welcome your athletics. Just about ready to go. And today’s starting pitcher, Jeffrey Springs. But Chris, he hasn’t exactly been stellar here on his home mound.
Well, I’ll say this. Every player wants to perform well at their home ballpark in front of their fans, in front of the city. And you know, this guy no different. He wants to be more effective here. So, you know, you look at the numbers, they haven’t been great at home. I’m sure he wants to turn that around. And we’ll see if he’s able to start that in this one.
Mike Yremsky, the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one. swings through that one for strike one. One and one. Next offering is fouled back and the lefty kicks, delivers, swings and misses. dropped him out. Here’s Elliot Ramos. There’s the strike. Ramos getting to start in left. 25 years old and he was born in Puerto Rico. Top of the zone for a called strike. 02 count both pitches on the inside part of the plate. Hitter is thinking I don’t want to get beat here. This is a good time for something off speed away. Strike three. And that’s two in a row. Well, there appears to be no problem settling in on the mound out there today. It looks pretty tough to start this one, punching out the first two hitters of this ball game. And somebody’s going to have to put the bat on the ball, put it in play, and get something going. Two outs, space is empty. Here’s Raphael Des. First pitch, and he just misses. Two outs. Base is empty. And a foul ball. Let’s go, Jeffrey. And a swing to miss.
See if he can go upstairs a little bit. Make sure you miss up and out of the zone since you’re heading the count one two. Don’t miss in the zone cuz that’s where you get hurt. Fans another. And that’s three straight strikeouts. Nothing doing there for San Francisco. And the A’s will get their first opportunity in a scoreless ball game. It’s Major League Baseball and it’s on the show. Back here with my pal Singy and our pitcher in this game Hayden Birdsaw. And Chris pitching on the road has not been particularly kind to him.
Yeah. And you don’t want to be too quick to say that he can’t pitch on the road. Sometimes, you know, it’s just a matter of luck. It’s not having a field difference between the bullpin mound to the mound out there on the playing field. Don’t know what it is, but I know this. He’s got good enough stuff to overcome and get it done on the road as well as at home. So, we’ll see what he’s able to do in this one.
Bounding ball here. Rolls. Foul. There’s the strike. That one’s upstairs. Ball one.
That’s a really good job of laying off the O2 high fast ball is going to make that pitcher really have to respect this hitter even though he’s behind in the count. swing and blast one down the line. It’s gone if it’s fair, but it hooks foul.
Thought that ball was hit pretty hard and sure had home run distance, but if you’re the pitcher out there on the mound, you execute it. Just a long strike. You go after him and finish him off. Swing at a ball popped up. Adamus makes the catch and there’s one down. Time now to check out the A’s lineup. This group was shut out their last game, so we’re going to see if they can bounce back with a better effort here today. And Boo, it can get in your head a little bit when you get shut out. You’re frustrated. You’re seeing that consecutive streak of innings you haven’t scored. And you want to get off to a great start, score early because if you don’t, you feel like it could linger into two consecutive games, which no one wants to be a part of. Brent Rooker in the box with one away as he takes ball one. He swings and fouls one off. One out. Base is empty. Pitch is in there. One and two. So far, all we’ve seen in this at bat are fast balls. Look for him to slow it down right here ahead in the count. One, two, bottom of the first. The pitch, highf fly ball lifted in the air right field and there’s two away. Batting third
two down, bases empty. Shangalers digs in now.
This is a guy who is very highly regarded defensively. Fun to watch him control stuff behind the plate. Good game caller, good at framing, but it’s that big arm that really stands out. That one finds the zone. That’s strike one.
You come into the game knowing that unless the ball’s in the dirt or gets by him, we’re probably not going to steal anything today. So, that’s where you want to get a little more aggressive on your secondary lead and hope that some base hits, some slog, some home runs can come into play. So, a foul ball makes it one and two. Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. Well, I’ll say this. As a former position player and base steeler, when you come into a game and you’ve got a guy like this behind the dish with a big arm, you really have to change your approach. Can’t try to steal because you’ll get thrown out. maybe get a little bigger lead, be aggressive on the secondary, but this type of guy shuts the running game down
just off the inside corner. Full countdown. Really close pitch down around the knees there. And you could see him asking where it missed. Probably doesn’t agree, but it appears he’s ready to move on to the next pitch. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. And a nice inning of work there as he sets him down. One, two, three. A’s go quickly and quietly there. Scoreless after one. Top of the second and now it’s Wilmer Flores.
Third baseman Wilmer Flores Springs back to work. right through there for a strike. Well, the key to his success is getting ahead early in the count. He cannot afford to go deep in the counts. Doesn’t have a ton of swing and miss stuff, so he’s going to have to work efficiently.
Next pitch is outside.
Umpireing behind the plate for us today, Boog, is Mike Filillmore, and he is a good one. He’ll reward pitches on the edges a little bit, but the main thing is he doesn’t keep you guessing. Once he established that a pitch is a strike, it stays that way. Softly hit to third. Muny sends it across to first and quickly one away in the second. Yeah, Philillmore kind of I don’t know, you’d say maybe an umpire’s umpire, but really consistent, very fair.
Dom Smith stands in. He’s been a great free agent sign. Let’s go. Hey Second inning here, no score.
Going to really need to hang in there with that front side against this left-handed breaking ball in the air pretty deep out to center field. Clark sizes this one up, corrals it and a couple of quick outs. Batty six shorts stop Willie
two out space is empty. Willie Adamus stands in on the ground right side. Boots it still able to fire over and the throw is late. Missed opportunity there thanks to the misplay. looked to me like he kind of let the ball play him instead of playing the ball and it just a him off. Hands get stiff and even the best infielders make these kinds of mistakes. You just have to learn from it and move on. And now the center fielder. This one in the dirt. One now. Snap throw to first and he dives back in safely. And that one is downstairs. Two and 0. And another ball. So now two on and two outs.
Four pitches. That’s an easy walk, man. And he could have walked me right there, boo. This one wasn’t even close.
Patrick Bailey.
First and second, two outs. Patrick Bailey, the next Giant to hit. Down and in. Moved his feet. First and second, two down here in the top of the second. And strike one to the catcher. I got a ball. One strike. Swings through that one. I would throw him another breaking ball. Try to do it again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Two on, two outs. base hit center field headed for the plate. The throw home. It’s offline and he scores on the board first. It’s one zip. Puts a run on the board and picks up an RBI. You’ll often hear the phrase short to it, long through it. And that’s a great example of it right there. Got the barrel in the hitting zone early, squared it up with the welltimed swing, and came away with a beautiful line drive into center field. Tyler Fitzgerald, the next Giant to hit. He’s been really clutch with runners in scoring position this season, so they’ll have to be extra careful in this matchup.
Got him on the off balance throw that ends the inning and stops things from getting out of hand. Bottom half of inning number two. Now it’s rookie first base Nick 16. in the air. Left field down the line and that’s a foul ball. Sliced hard but foul. swings and misses. One gone here. Next up for the A’s, Maxy. Not even close there. And that’s ball one. That one almost got him. Back-to-back fast balls in. And that last one called for a strike. Probably go away, but look for him to come back in there to try to finish you off. Next offering is fouled back. Still two and two after the foul ball. One down, base is empty. That one inside. And that’s ball three. That’s foul off to the right side. Keeps the AB going. Good battle here. About to be the eighth pitch of the at bat. in the air out towards right center. Makes the catch for the out and there’s two down. Batting six, second baseman, Luis. Here’s Luis Orias. Rip towards third. zips it across and that is that. Nothing doing there for the A’s. They’re down one- nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. Top half of the third inning. Mikey up here. And a fast ball in there for a strike at 91. Out to center. Clark sizing this one up. Makes the catch and there’s one gone. Now batting left fielder
Elliot Ramos the next Giant to hit. His first at bat was a strike out. That’s a strike and it’s 0 and one. And that’s outside. Swang and a miss. There’s that change up.
Benny really sells the change up with that arm action. Fouls it off. Still one and two. Y’all, this is a good time to step out of the box, take a deep breath, reset. Couple of change ups. Probably won’t see another one here. Pitch misses and it’s two and two. Recognized that change up right out of the hand. Just spit on it up the middle. Urias on the run. Sends it over to first. Pretty nice play there. Well, I’m impressed with this guy’s internal clock. He knew he had plenty of time to take that extra step, secure his grip on the baseball, and make a strong, accurate throw. Two down, base is empty, and it’s Raphael Devers in the box. And first offering is fouled off. Two outs. ball one and one there. Now two balls in a strike. They had a swing and a miss there. and down on strikes. Make it four strikeouts for him on the bump today. Giants down in order, but they still lead it one- nothing. And we’re back. Set for the bottom of the third. Here’s the rookie right fielder number eight Thomas. Swing and a miss. Strike one. One’s the count. That misses the zone and it’s a ball and a strike. a little out front there as he swings through it.
Clearly was sitting on a fast ball right there and just ended up out in front of the slider. Hey, you can’t fault him for his commitment. Now he’s just going to have to battle with two strikes.
Little bit low and the count now even up.
Really good take, especially with two strikes. And that’s in the dirt. stays alive outside and that is ball four. And that’s how they get their first base runner of the game. What a battle. It’s not always easy laying off a 3-2 pitch. And I tell you what, he earned that walk. Digging in, it’s the speedy outfielder Denzel Clark. We talk about guys with good speed and definitely he has it. But pushing the offensive side for just a second, Chris, it’s the defensive side that I think the speed factors in the most swing and a miss going. Well, he gets to balls that get by most people at that position. Just really impressive because there’s certain times a ball comes off the bat automatically that team that hit it thinks that they’ve got a base hit or they may have extra bases and he just takes it away. One ball, two strike foul ball still a one and two count. Clearly, he was geared up for the fast ball right there. Maybe got a little jumpy and excited out of the hand, but he certainly didn’t miss a stitch. And a swing and a miss. And he’s registered three Ks in this one. And Chris, that’s a way to neutralize his speed by keeping him off base.
And the defense breeds relief because he puts pressure on everyone if he can put the ball in play. But that’s how you do it. Keep him off balance, get him out of there, and deal with the next guy. So digging in, Max Schuman, runner on the move, pitching for a strike. And that’s a stolen base. Not even close. Next one misses and the count even one and one. You don’t want to get beat by a fast ball in. And he spits on that one. A short stop takes the ball.
You got two balls, one strike. Ruer goes again. Pitch is high. Throw to third and he’s in there easily. And the tying run is now only 90 ft away. and ball four to a board. Now that is leftielder Lawrence.
Runners at the corners here. One away. Lawrence Butler up next for the A’s. The big behind with that swing. It’s strike one. Come and get me fast ball right there. He didn’t look ready for the velocity. I think it’d be a mistake to throw him. This one swung on and hit way back there. Out of here. He’ll take a trot around the bases. His 12th of the season. And the A’s jump in front. It’s 3-1. Two pitches, two swings. That one for a home run. Looking to be aggressive all the way. And it paid off for him in a big way. A good hitter gets pitch recognition early. He saw exactly where that was going to be. The challenge, not get over anxious and come out of your swing. He stayed on it and got all of it. Brent Wooker up next for the A’s. That one misses. And that’s ball one. Hey Just missed. Two ball, one strike. Just missed. That one fouled off. Swinging a ground ball up the middle. Adamus the throw to first. Now two out. Although we talked about how the ball is coming out of a pitcher’s hand. The way it comes out of his hand as an infielder. Wow. Really impressive.
Two out. Space is empty. And now a chance for Shay Langalers. struck out swinging his first time in for a strike. It’s 0 and one.
0 and one late with the swing there. He finds himself in a tough situation early. Just got to try to simplify it. Take a knock the other way if you can. And ball one,
two strike,
two gone, base is empty, but three runs across here in the last half of the third. Next pitch, a slider that misses outside. That one missing inside. swinging a foul ball at the plate. They’ll do it again outside and that is ball four. It’s been a little bit of a shaky inning, but he’s still in a good spot to get out of this thing without giving up any more runs. He’s just got to turn the page and go after this next guy.
And next will be the cleanup hitter, Nick Curts. Struck out swinging his first time. That’s in for a strike at 95 and one. Looked pretty good as far as being in the strike zone, but I’m sure as a hitter
not too good with where it was located. Very top of the strike zone. Middle away. Takes off. Pitch is low. So a foul ball makes it one and two. And that one hammered. That’s back there. And that one is going to go. Second home run of the inning for him. It’s 51. He absolutely feasts on right-handed pitching and devours that one for a homer. And you can see that’s what he expects of himself at bat after at bat. He’s that confident. A breaking ball on the inside part of the play requires a hitter to stay really square with his mechanics. If you fly open with the press shoulder, there’s no way you keep that ball fair. An outstanding job mechanically, he deserves that home run. Next up for the A’s, Max 0 for one with a fly out to center and the pitch a little bit low. Ball one.
One. Next offering is fouled back. And now two and one. swinging a foul out of play.
Looked like you got a little excited on that fast ball. Got to think to yourself, you want to stay up the middle that way. If you’re a little bit early, you hit it out of the ballpark. You’re a little late. Opposite field, not.
He swings and hits a fly ball center field. Touches down. That’s a hit. And that extends the inning. Now,
here comes the manager out of the dugout and he’ll make a move for the bullpen. Hayden Birdsaw won’t go any further tonight and this is one he’d like to forget. Back with a new arm after this. Now pitching for
Spencer Bivvens gets handed the rock out of the pen. Should be a good first match up for him here. He’s been doing a great job against right-handed bats so far this season. They’ve had a lot of trouble squaring him up. Now it’s the second baseman, Luis Urias. First time up. He grounded to third. Swings and misses at the pitch off the plate. Oh,
one’s the count. Ruer takes off. Strike in there. Throw to second. Out at second that ends the inning. But two round tripers in this inning. The long ball was working as the A’s are on top. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Out of the fourth, there’s a cleanup hitter for the Giants. Wilmer Flores. And that one ripped to left. Butler makes the grab. One pitch and one out. Not at first baseman Dominic Smith.
Now it’s Dominic Smith. Fly to center his first time. He’s 0 for one. Smith in his seventh season, 29 years old. He joined the team as a free agent. That’s to third and that chance handled. Two quick outs here in the top of the fourth.
Up next for the Giants, shortstop, Willie Adamus. And digging in for San Francisco, Willie Adamus. He’s 0 for one. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. And another ball. Two down, nobody on. Top half of inning number four. Giants. Next pitch is downstairs. And there’s the automatic. And that one is in for a strike. Helpful. breaking ball in there. Got him looking and good work there as he gets a one, two, three. Nothing across here this half to the bottom of inning number four. Now it’s the A’s five and the Giants one. Luis up next for the A’s.
Second baseman Luis Urias. Let’s go to gold, baby. Let’s go. Inside. Almost got him. That’s a ball.
Straighten him up a little bit. And that one fouled off. swing and a highf fly ball that’s out to center. Pulls it in for the out. Now batting right fielder. And now the right fielder. The walk and a run scored his first time. in there for strike one. fought off. Foul and that’s down and away.
Two strikes. Base is empty, one away. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. Good job to fight that one off. Hacks and misses. It’s a strike out. Came inside with that two strike fast ball nicely and just barged him up on the inside part of the plate. Couldn’t get around on it and catch it out front. Many times if you do, it’s a foul ball. And you know, a lot of pitchers, they really don’t like working inside with two strikes because they do not want to hit that batter. And when they’ve got him up against the ropes, got to figure out a way to put him away. Did a nice job right there. Clark the next to hit. Takes outside. right side and that’s just foul. Let’s go, baby. Let’s go. And it is two to one. Let’s go. Hey, let’s go. Next offering misses down and away. Foul. We’ll see another payoff pitch. Here we go. And they’ll do it again. Eighth pitch of the at coming up. You got this. Bows it back with two strikes. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. He battled for a long time, but it finishes with a strike out. You can’t be mad at yourself after an at bat like that one. Ready now for the fifth inning. Here’s the center fielder, number 56. Springs back to work. Yeah, big swing and a miss. All these Giants being a little too patient at the plate in this game. Sometimes it’s a good thing, but today they’re continuing to fall behind in the count and that’s adding a ton of pressure to their offense and he beats it. He’s safe.
It doesn’t really matter where you are in the lineup. Your job is to get on base and try to start a rally if you’re leading off an inning. An infield single does the job right there. Now we’ll see if they can make something happen. Now the catcher up to hit. Patrick Bailey RBI single his last time up. Swinging a foul back. That’s out of play. Snap throw to first and he’s back in there. Runner at first with no outs here. Runner on the go. There’s the ball. Throw there. Safe.
Here’s what I think the manager is thinking right now. Today we’re not driving the ball. It’s hard to get extra base hits. We’ve got to make something happen to get a runner into scoring position. That stolen base. Excellent call. Now all it takes is perhaps a single to put a run on the board. Out towards left center. Clark sizes this one up. Hauls it in. And there’s one away. Now batting second baseman Tyler Fitzgerald. So a man aboard Tyler Fitzgerald now at the plate. First pitch and that’s in for a strike. Let’s go. Lifted in the air right center field. Touches down. That’s a hit. Coming home. He will score and it’s an RBI single. It’s 52. Oh, that gets him a little closer in this one. Put a pretty good jolt into that one. Great swing. Nice balance and weight transfer. And he got it to drop in out there in the deep part of the field. Here comes Mike Estreky to the plate. old for two in this one. Swinging a foul straight back. This might be a steel situation, but that’s not your average catcher behind the dish. You have to be careful here. Fitzgerald stands at first with one out. There goes the runner pitching for a strike. Throw to second. That goes to show you stealing a base is a tough thing to do and far from a sure thing. Even with big time speed, it’s not easy to catch him. But that was a great catch and throw. Quick, not rushed, and accurate. Next pitch, not close up high.
O2 fast way out of the zone. I think he’s trying to speed him up. Got to stay back. Off speed’s probably coming. Two balls.
Two down. Base is empty, but one run across. And we’re in the top of the fifth. And that’s a strike out. Mike Filmore says he went around, but they pick up one run on the RBI single. It’s now 52. You’re dialed into the show and welcome back to the ballpark. Bottom of the inning. Here’s the shortstop at the plate. Max Schuman, baby. Let’s go. That misses.
One and0. Action in the San Francisco bullpen. Logan Webb getting ready to come in for Bob Melvin. roof getting cranked up as well on the ground to third. Fair ball. Now batting
at the plate, Lawrence Butler. He’s already homered here in this one. Let’s keep it going. Pickoff throw. Schum back in on a dive. One more time. And that’s outside. Nobody out. Runner at first. Runner on the go. Swung on. looped into center and out number one on the grab. Throw behind the runner and they’ve got him doubled off. Now batting designated hitter Brent Rooker.
Now the A’s designated hitter Brent Rooker. And that’s him for a strike. Yeah, that skips in the dirt. fights that one away. Still one and two, baby. Let’s go. Two down to that one just misses. up the middle and he knocks it down. No throw and they come away without an out. So up next, Shay Langalers. He is struck out and he is walked. Just missed. The one that one pushed foul outside low. Two and one.
Back to back breaking pitches away. You get the feeling as a hitter that the pitcher is afraid of you, that he doesn’t want to challenge you. So, I think the confidence level is raised right here. Next offering is in for a strike. He must have been looking for something else cuz he gave up on that pitch a little early. It was right down Main Street. Probably not going to see a better pitch to hit in this at bat. Two outs and it remains two and two. This one popped up. Fitzgerald makes the grab and that’s the third out. The A’s strand one. They’re still out in front 52. Top of the sixth inning. Here’s the left fielder, Elliot Ramos. Elliot Ramos. That one misses ball one. Fast ball for a strike. Right through there for a strike. swing and a highf fly ball right field. That one back. That one on its way and it’s gone. A solo shot and they’re chipping away. It’s 53. Things might get pretty interesting if they keep connecting on pitches like that. That’s the exact definition of hitting the ball where it’s pitched. Taking that outside fast ball and driving it the opposite way out of the ballpark. You want to bottle that type of approach. Now it’s Devers at the plate. De’s the babyfaced assassin. And Devers hits that one. Butler sizing this one up. He makes the grab. One down.
It’s a good recovery though after giving up the home run. Not allowing it to stay in the head, but going to work at the next hitter. And a tough one at that.
So here’s the cleanup hitter, Wilmer Flores. There’s a strike. One’s the count.
One out. Base is empty and a run in. And we’re the top half of the six. And that’s off the outside edge. And it’s one and one.
Tried to back door him with that slider right there, but just missed off the plate. Good pitch though. caught him looking for the K. Well, just couldn’t pull the trigger on the fast right there. And I don’t think he was taking it, thinking it might be a cold ball or anything. I just think he was flat out frozen. Did not expect that location in my opinion.
And up next for San Francisco, Dominic Smith. And first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. got him looking. Strike out number eight. It’s a run for the Giants on the solo blast. It’s now 53. You’re watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show. And we’re back. Bottom of the sixth inning. And here’s the first baseman, Nick Curts. on the ground. Dives, but it kicks off his glove. No throw and they don’t get the out. Now, third base,
man at first, nobody out. Maxy up next for the A’s. One for two. Now fly ball to right center. One away. Now batting second baseman Luis Urias. So digging in Luis Urias. That one finds the zone. Strike one. Signs of movement in the Giants bullpen. Ryan Walker, the right-handed sinker baller. He looks to be readying himself. misses inside and now it’s even one and one. Come on. Throw over to first.
No, he’s safe. Curts the base runner at first with one out and there’s a rocket into the outfield and that one’s going to get into the corner headed for the plate. The tag and he’s saved and they lead by three. Love how he let that ball travel, trusted his hands. Nice job of going the other way. One out, runner at second. Now it’s the right fielder. Ball one
in the dirt but kept close. That one drifts inside. The A’s looking to add another. That’s out.
Well, I would expect in this three-0 count, you’re taking all the way. See if he’ll walk you. Let’s see if he gives him anything to hit here. And ball four to a board. Maybe a little loss of focus on the mound right there. pretty much gifted him first base with a quick free pass. Denzel Clark
Denzel Clark up next for the A’s
Singing. You got to appreciate a guy who’s this good defensively. I mean, watching him track balls in the outfield, it is beautiful. Swings through that one. 0 and one. So, how much does his speed factor into his ability to go get it? It’s heartbreaking for the hitter because off the bat he thinks this ball’s going to get down because of that speed and the ability to make up so much ground. He enters the picture
to Adamus. That’s one back to first. Not in time. Well, that was going to be a really tough one to turn two on. So, a nice job to get the out at second right there. Hold on to the baseball. Shortstop clearly paid the price, but that kind of comes with the territory. Matt Schuman up next for the A’s. A walk and he’s also singled. This one in the air center field under it. He’s there. He’s got it. And that is the third out of the inning. A’s get one on the RBI double. It’s now 63. Major League Baseball is on the show. Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the mound, Justin Stern. Well,
he’s been hit pretty hard at times this season as you see with the big RA. So, this is an important outing for him to get on the right track. And now the shorts stop Willie Adam. Shortstop Willie Adam late on that fast ball. The A’s bullpen has some movement. Shawn Nukem the left-hander up and throwing. Way to go, baby. That one down the line and foul ball. Swings through a little. That’s a strike out. And he’ll be beating himself up on the way back to the dugout. Got a pitch to hit and just couldn’t get to it. I think that slider really caught way more of the plate than it was supposed to. And now the center fielder Sterner 61 righty. He features a four seam fast, a curb, a slider, and he works in a sinker. Base is empty, one away here. the top half of inning number seven and it’s fouled away. One down, base is empty outside low and it’s two and one. And that drops in for a strike. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Coming out of the bullpen throwing BBs. chance to strike out the side. Now, you talk about the benefits, the advantages of relievers who can come in and get the swing and miss, whether it’s inherited runners or maybe a little jam that they get into themselves knowing that they can miss the bat. Tell you what, that’s huge and can change the ball game. Bailey stands in here. Tried to hold back his swing there, but went around. Bailey checks his swing. Appeal down to third and he went around. Rule the swing. Goes down swinging for the strike out. And he strikes out the side in the seventh. Giants are down one, two, three, and they’re still doubled up. It’s six to three. Now pitching for
We’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh. Ryan Walker. Pretty tight game. So they’re looking for quality pitches out of him right here. Got to do his best to keep the score right where it is. Back to the top of the order now. Now Lawrence Butler.
He’s already homerred in this game.
Lawrence Butler. swings through that 0 and one. Let’s go to gold, baby. Let’s go. And the slider just misses. And that’s downstairs and outside. There’s a swing in a miss.
This guy’s got such a good sinker. As a hitter, you’ve got to look up in the zone. If you look down, you’re going to be chasing stuff in the dirt. Puts it in the air out towards left center and it’s caught for the out. Every day during batting practice, these outfielders get about 10 minutes of balls in the gaps. They practice this and when the game comes, they make the play perfectly.
And next is the designated hitter, Brent Rooker. One for three. That’s in there. Strike one. Some hitters are just more confident if they can track that first pitch out of the hand of the pitcher. They don’t care if they fall behind 01. Ball. That’s outside. Let’s go to baby. Let’s go. Text offering upstairs. And a foul ball. Hard hit right side.
Steps on first for the out. Now batting catcher Shay Langalers. Two down, base is empty. Shay Langalers the next to hit. And the first pitch misses for ball one. The only adjustment he needs to make is his target. If you aim at the outside corner, that slider’s going to end up way off the plate. Perhaps look a little more down the middle and you get it right where you want it. Hauls it in to end the inning. And one, two, three go the A’s as they’re unable to add to their 6-3 lead. Welcome back and a new arm on the mound to start the eighth. Shawn Nukem.
Well, he struggled quite a bit. So, this is another opportunity to get on the right track. He’s given up more than one hit per any pitch so far this season. Here’s the second base, Tyler Fitzgerald.
Second base, Tyler Fitzgerald. That one catches the zone. Strike one. Movement in the bullpen. Frederick Eddie the closer is getting ready and perhaps looking at a long save opportunity here. Sears warming up as well. That’s off the inside corner and the count is one and one. Got to keep things airtight defensively right here. On your toes, ready to make a play. If you can get this to the ninth with a three-run lead, it should be a W. They hope he’s the guy to spark a comeback. He tends to play better when his team is behind, so why not him? Swang and a ball lifted in the air. Clark coming on. He’s got it. And there’s one down. Man, is he fast. That’s so far.
Righty. So, up next, Mike Yremsky. 0 for three with two strikeouts and a fly out. in the air left field. Butler sizes this one up and puts the squeeze on that one. Two away now. Two out. Space is empty. Now the left fielder Elliot Ramos. That one hit to right. And that is that.
Three up, three down that time. Home half of inning number eight. Straight ahead. It’s the A6 and the Giants three. And welcome back to the ballpark. Out of the bottom of the eighth. And now the first baseman, Nick Curts. Walker back to work and that misses and that is ball one. swinging a miss as he was late.
One ball, two straight. That one ripped left field. That’s back. That’ll make it out of here. Another homer. His second home run of the game. And they add to their lead. It’s 73. That’s a swing that’ll boost the win probability for sure. Get as many high fives as possible. Man, this guy’s a ball of energy right now and having the game of his life. Here comes the skipper and we’re going to see a pitching change in this spot. Ryan Walker done for the night. We’ll be back in a minute with a new arm on the mound. New arm for the Giants, Landon R. And one thing on him, he’s been really good this season at keeping the ball in the park. Not an easy guy to take deep. So digging in Maxie. Ground ball left side and it goes just foul. Nobody on, nobody out with a run in near the bottom half of the eighth inning. And that is downstairs. One and one swing and a highf fly ball left field. Ramos calls it in and there’s one away. Now batting second baseman up next for the A’s and first offering is fouled off. One down base is empty. That’s outside and one and one action in the San Francisco bullpen. Randy Rodriguez getting ready to come in for Bob Melvin ball. That’s good pitch there. Really had some run and finished little up and in just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, you had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. That missed by a lot. Full count. Three and two. Got him. Outside pitch got the better of him that time. Now batting.
And now the right fielder. Couple of walks and a strike out. curve in the dirt. Next offering is down low right through there for a strike. And now it’s even up.
This guy’s sink has so much drop in it. It’s almost like a split finger fast ball. Instead of just weak contact in balls on the ground, he gets swings and misses.
Foul ball. Another 2-2 upcoming.
That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was.
Spoils that one and it remains two and two. Two down to that one the other way and that’s a fair ball around first heading for two. He’s there. It’s a two out double. Showed a lot of fight with two strikes in that AB. Really good swing right there. He got a pitch that he knew he could handle. Allowed himself to stay back just a tad bit longer and he hit the ball on the screws. So runner at second, two down. Denzel Clark up next for the A’s and he swings and misses at the initial offering. Ruer at second. Two down. Ruer breaks for third. Pitch in for a strike. Rose. That’s a stolen base. And now he’s up to three stolen bases in the game. Two outs. Waves at the bender for the strike out. One scores in the inning coming on this solo home run. Last chance coming up for the Giants. And we’re back. All set to start the ninth in this one. Now
for the Giants, the designated hitter, Raphael Des. That clips the inside corner for a strike. The Athletics have some bullpen action. Elvis Alvarado preparing to come on if needed. That misses and that’s ball one. Swing and a miss.
Well, he went inside a couple of times and now outside. Hitter’s not exactly sure where to look for this next pitch.
That one not close. It’s two and two. Misses the mark outside the zone. Fly ball to right. Drifts towards it and there’s one away. Now batting third baseman. And now Wilmer Flores. A swing and a miss. And that’s strike one.
Just a bit tardy there. Not sure if he had a hard time picking it up out of the hand or if he was sitting off speed. And that one a little below the knees. Ball one. The one-1 is fouled off.
Really great change of speeds. He goes off the off speed to the fast ball and the hitter doesn’t know what’s coming next.
The next pitch misses and the count’s even at two.
The Athletics leading by four here in the top of the ninth. Misses and now three and two.
He’s really tightening up his hitting zone with two strikes here. I love it. Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. One down. Base is empty. Got him looking now. Only one out remaining. Oh, just a beautiful fast ball on the inside corner for that backwards K right there. I think the hitter saw it all the way coming from that opposite arm angle. So, I got to think he was looking away and just got locked up by the hard stuff boring in on his hands. Smith in now. Takes ball one off the plate. That’s ball two. Two and0. That one’s spoiled. And the count now two and one. Foul ball there. The Giants down to their final strike. The count’s full. Hit to right and that should do it. That’s the ball game. I always love playing Fourth of July games at home. There’s so much energy in the ballpark. The red, white, and blue everywhere. And when you get a win, you feel like you did something special. Now it’s off to get showered and changed and enjoy these fireworks. 73 is how this one ends. The A’s are victorious for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show. I’m John Shambi. Thanks for joining us.
