Thanks for being here for this episode of Lockdown Angels, where it’s your team every day. You’ve got the Fresh Brothers here with you, aka the Super Halo Bros. My name is John. And that’s my brother Mike.
And my name is Mike. And that’s my brother John. Hey, we’re here 5 days a week talking Angels baseball with you Monday through Friday, any day, any time of the week. We’re here for you. On today’s show, Renifo is playing better. So, what changed? We’ll tell you about it. And our Angels are failing upward. What are we talking about? We’ll share that in segment three. But Mike, let’s get to our takeaways from game one in Atlanta against the Braves. A big four to nothing win for the Halos highlighted by a big inning, a four-run inning, right? Yeah. First takeaway though, John, Angels first game in Atlanta since 2023. Remember, they went there and they were in competition for a playoff spot and they made a bunch of trades and it did not go well for them. The lineup, the last time that they played in Atlanta was on August 2nd, 2023. This was who was in the lineup, John. Leading off was Rean Heifo. Batting second was Otani. Batting third, CJ Cone. Fourth, Randall Gchuk. Fifth, Hunter Renfro. Sixth, Eduardo Escobar. Seventh, Zack Neto. Eighth, Chad Wallik. And ninth, Jordan Adams. And guess who was on the mound, John?
Oh, boy. I can
GO. Yeah. I can your guest, Michael. Yeah.
Yeah. And a very different lineup last night for our Halos. And that’s a good thing. Neto led off. Shaell, Trout, Ward, Adele, Cairer was back. Oh, Hoppy, Ranifo, and Christian Moore hit ninth. Tyler Anderson was on the mound. John, seven of the nine starters had an OPS of 700 or more, which is very good. So, this team, as we’ve talked about on yesterday’s show, offensively, they’re they’re strong and they can be good. And we’ll talk about their good in just a moment. We’ll also talk about their not so good. But John, let’s start with the real good and that was Tyler Anderson on the mound.
Just really fast before I get to Tyler Anderson in our second takeaway. Cone and Gritchuk three and four in the lineup. What are we doing? Like that’s what we put out there. Nevin,
oh my gosh. Anyway, uh Tyler Anderson was back to being the good Tyler Anderson. He started out this game by striking out the side in the first. Worked around a single and a double. Didn’t allow any runs. That was the story of his start last night, but he was working around trouble as he is able to do. Bottom of the fourth, Braves got a leadoff single, but Anderson got out with any damage. Bottom of the fifth, Mike, a leadoff triple on a ball that Solair just couldn’t catch. Had a 60% catch probability on that one. Looked like he was right there. I don’t know. It was like, did it go over his glove or under his glove? It just hole in his glove. Right. Yeah. It was so weird. I don’t know how he How did you miss that? Yeah. I don’t know if it was the camera angles because, you know, it’s a different stadium or whatnot, but
it looked bad. Let’s just say it looked bad.
Yeah, it didn’t look great. Either way, Tyler Anderson works around the triple and gets out of the inning without giving up any runs. And that was important because at that point it was 000. And so you you know, momentum is not an easy thing to quantify or measure, but you can certainly bet that that would have given the Braves some momentum or at least put some pressure on the Angels. Anderson went six, four hits, no runs, two walks, seven Ks on 87 pitches. Mike, was that a quick hook or was it just right? What do you say?
I think it was a quick hook. I know that he was I know that he was, you know, had working around trouble, but 87 pitches, I think I would have at least let him pitch against Verdugo. Now, I know that his splits are are odd. He’s better against right-handers, Anderson, than left-handers, and Verdugo is a left-hander. I think I would have maybe at least let him have one more at bat, maybe at least pitch against Verdugo to see what happened. Now, I know FM came in and Fine was fantastic. So, I I don’t have a problem with that, but I think if I’m managing this team, I would have at least let him go out there to start the seventh inning.
Hold on. Lindseay Crosby, our our good buddy who does the locked on uh uh Braves postcast, um had a stat and I think it was that uh Verdugo in his career. Uh okay, he’s three for eight against Tyler Anderson, including a home run, which uh I think happened last year when Verdugo was with the Yankees. So maybe there was a little bit of a matchup thing going on there. And so that that might ease your, you know, consternation, if you will.
Well, I think what we’re going to find, and we’ve talked about this on this show, is Ray Montgomery is going to be more analytical than Ron Washington, right? He’s not going to go with the gut. He’s going to go with the stats, going to go with the metrics, what history said. And it was a good decision based off of what history said that Verdugo is really good against Anderson. Anderson splits against lefties and righties are very different. And he was, you know, he allowed six base runners in six innings. So, he was scattering a lot of hits and didn’t allow any runs. So, perhaps because he hadn’t been pitching well, Montgomery was like, “No, you got us there. Appreciate that. We’re going to bring in our fresh bullpin.” And and honestly, man, Fine, Demmer’s Jansen, they all looked fantastic. For me, Fine’s now a high leverage guy, John. I mean, this guy is fantastic. Got his first major league win last night, by the way. And so I I think if I’m the man if I’m managing this team, I initially would have said I think I would have let him come back out. But knowing that stat, it makes sense. And I agree with Ray Montgomery’s decision.
And with Anderson struggling the last couple of starts, it’s like, yeah, take the win. Take the W. You got six clean innings. Like, let’s go. Like, let’s move on. Mike, the Angels bad habits, our third takeaway. They showed up in this game. And it’s not about striking out too much. The strikeout is part of the game. But the problem is in this game is the Angels swung at the pitch low and away. Every single time, didn’t
Every single time. I mean, say that again. Every single time they swung at that. Terrible, right? Like, like Grant Holmes was the starter for the Braves. John, he had 31 whiffs in this game.
Yeah.
31 whiffs. Now, he’s had back-to-back games with 25 plus. Uh the only other guy to do that is Terrick Scooel. So, so Grant Holmes is uh in some good category with TK Scubble and he he’s not a great pitcher, but he looked fantastic last night. And John, our buddy Oh, was the main culprit last night. He swung and missed at the pitch down and away in his first three at bats and resulted in strikeouts. If you’re on the video side, you see on the screen, two of his at bats. Like, it was it was bad. Look at where those balls are. Everything is down and away. If you’re on the audio side, everything’s down and away, right? And and and
and we all saw it. We all saw it from the couch. We saw we saw it from the dinner table. Everybody that watched this game knew they were going to throw you that slider or sweeper down and away. Do not swing at that. And Oh, hop just could not hold back. But John, the Angels up until the seventh inning could not hold back. In fact, we have another graphic that you’ve tweeted at locked on angels. Why don’t you talk about it? Yeah. So, I was doing some digging uh in terms of the conversation we had yesterday about the angels quality of contact and then I realized like uh the scouting report on most of the angels is throw it down and away. And so, if you’re on the audio side, um what we have here is a graphic of all the hitters and their strike zone and the number of pitches thrown in particular quadrants of the strike zone. And for most of the right-handed hitters, it’s bright red because that’s where most of the pitches are going. And then if you look at Nolan Shawell, who’s a lefty, uh, down and away on the opposite side from him. So everything is throw it down and away, throw it down and away. The Angels will go after it. So tells me the scouting report on the Angels is, hey, throw it down and away because that’s where uh that’s where they swing and miss most of the time. Mike, I I my wife Abby can attest to this. I told her, “Here comes Logan and he’s going to swing at all three pitches and none of them are going to be in the zone.” And then it happened and she looked at me and went, “Who can we get a lotto ticket? Like, what do you how’d you know that?” And I was like, “That’s what he’s been doing.
I’ve seen this before. We’ve played this game before, right?”
Yeah. Fourth takeaway, John. Angels adjusted and put some good bats together in the top of the seventh. Started with a one out hustle double from Mike Trout. Good to see. First he had that Mike Trout classic swing and then he turned on the afterburners, man. And that knee looks fine. I don’t know if it’s sore after the game, but that knee looked fine at that moment. Then Taylor Ward walked. We’ll talk about walks in just a moment. Then your boy John Joe Adele,
come on. RBI double. Trout scores the first run of the game. Adele’s got a 12game hitting streak going. Then Jorge Cer, he’s back. He follows with a two-run double. Ward and Adele score. And then finally with two outs, Ren Heo singled and Compro he scored. He was pinch running for Solair. The Halos had two walks in that inning and they had seven total walks last night. John, they were 29th in the league entering June in walks. In the month of June, they improved. They were 15th in the league just in the month of June. So middle of the pack from the bottom of the pack. And so let’s see if they can continue to do that. That’s helpful for this team, right? What’s the Castanza line? Not doing too, not showing off,
not not lagging behind.
Yeah, there it is. There it is. Uh, finally, Mike, the fifth takeaway here, the Angels did use Kenley Jansen, even though it wasn’t a save situation. And the reason we bring that up is because the Angels have 13 games over the next 13 G days. So, the question is, should they use Jansen when it’s not necessary like they did last night?
I think in this situation, I I would have used him. And you just don’t know, right? you’re playing for. And this has been what I’ve complained about on this show, right? Like I want you to I want you to play to win this game. Play to win this game. Now, if they can’t have Kenley Jansen because they used him for two nights in a row and it wasn’t a safe situation and then it was, you’ve got Reed Demmer’s
and you’ve got Jose Fine. You just have to kind of mix and match the bullpen. That means those guys move up to eight and nine instead of seven and eight. So, it does adjust some things. They did not use Zephr John last night and so maybe Zephr John becomes the your seventh inning guy in Bachmann. Correct. Yeah. So there I I I didn’t mind it because I’ I’ve wanted Wash and I’ve wanted Montgomery. Just manage this game and then just win baby. We’ll just figure it out tomorrow and we’ll figure it out the next day. I want to see all of our best players in there helping us get a victory. And that’s exactly what happened last night.
Yeah, it was great to see them go for the win. And there were a lot of great comments in response to our conversation yesterday. One of them was essentially how many like lineups have the Angels punted against bad teams, you know, and and kind of like on Sunday when we didn’t have Trout, we didn’t have Neto, right? So, uh that’s something that will be worth digging into uh at a future date. Thanks for making Lockdown Angels your first listen of the day. Coming up, the Angels are failing upward. Mike, do I do I have bags under my eyes? Can you see? Cuz uh our baby’s teething and uh kept us up pretty late last night, but we’re here and we’re we’re doing the show. So, uh yeah, it was it was a rough one. And then they grow up and they don’t show up uh at home for a curfew. So you still have bags under your eyes. You’re waiting for them to come home. When they come home, they’re like, “Oh, we just we’re having a good time.” And you’re like, “Yeah, but we’re not sleeping.” So bags at the beginning and the dad section of Locked on Angels.
Exactly. Exactly. Uh but you know, we’re we’re here every day because uh we love the conversation and we love uh you know, hopefully hopefully making you a Smarter Angels fan at the end of the day. And so you know, it’s time to talk about Luis Renifo. He’s turned a corner recently, Mike, entering last night’s game. He’s been really good over the last 16 games. 309 batting average, 387 on base, and a 545 slugging. That’s a 163 weighted runs created plus. That means he’s 63% better than league average. And then six extra base hits. Before that, Mike, his line was not very good, was it?
No. 208, 242, 256. Not Not great at all. And the question is what changed? Did he adjust his stance at the plate? Maybe. Did he start going the other way? Possibly. But what really changed, John? I don’t think it was anything that he did. I think it was everything that the organization did. And what organization did is they called up Christian Moore 16 games
ago. And that’s not counting last night. Ranifa went two for four last night. So those numbers went up and to the right after his performance last night. John calling up Christian Moore seemed to be a shot in the arm for Louis Renhifo. Do you think that’s a coincidence? Tell me your thoughts about that.
It’s funny that it’s exactly 16 games where things turned around for him and Christian Moore, you know, entering yesterday came up 16 days ago. Man, it feels like he’s been up for a while now and it’s only 16.
You won a bunch of games for us. That’s
Yeah, exactly. But Mike, this it it’s sad because Reanifo had his season cut short last year with the injury and even the year before that also had the season cut short with an injury. And both of those years he was very good. Everybody’s called him a second half guy. And that’s cuz in 21 and 22, he’d put up decent numbers, but he wouldn’t arrive until Trout was hurt and Rendone was hurt and all those guys inevitably got hurt and was like, “Okay, well, we need Renifo in this lineup. we need him in the infield and that’s what they would do. And so to call him a second half guy I think it was just unfair. We’ve actually done a deep dive on that a couple of off seasons ago. Um this time around actually was kind of a second half guy and I know we’re not tech well I guess we are. We’re past the halfway point if you want to count second half as you know the actual number of games versus after the all-star break. But all of that to say, Louis’s not been great this season. And so for him to do this over his last 16 games, I don’t know that it’s so much the the competition aspect. Um, but I do think that Christian Moore being in this lineup and what he’s able to offer raises the game of everybody else in that lineup. To have him at number nine, uh, is and and you know, you see him work that walk last night. And I know it didn’t end up coming around to score, but the fact is number nine, he’s doing a great job down at the bottom of the order. And then Renhifo’s at at eight. So perhaps there’s something there in terms of protection behind Renifo. I know Renifo got to lead off a couple of times um with Zach Neto out. And so, you know, that could have been a boost to uh his confidence, also a boost to his statline, right? So I think there’s a number of factors here that have contributed to that. I do think it is really funny that it’s exactly 16 games and exactly when Christian Moore came up. But what is what’s your perspective on this change in Luis Renifo? Maybe he’s vying for a trade or a new contract or something like that. What do you think?
I think he’s an at bats guy. Mike Trout always said I got to have like 150 at bats to really get going. It seems like Renifo is kind of wired that way as well. And he had a really slow start. But remember, no spring training and so we weren’t sure what was going to happen when he started the regular season. And I just think that he used March, April, and some of May to really figure some things out. And he wasn’t there that often, right? He was being mixed and matched. He was at third base, second base, and out in the outfield, right? And I also think because they have him at at third base, he’s having to learn that position. I don’t think it’s his most confident position. There’s probably a lot that’s going on in his head. However, I do think that there has to be some level of, “Oh, they’re bringing this guy in, huh? I I better get my I better get my craft together, right?” Like, and and and one of the reasons why I believe that is on the broadcast last night, Wayne and Gooby were talking about the Braves and all of the guys that are young that they gave long-term deals to are really struggling. Not all of them, but most of them are really struggling. Michael Harris is really struggling right now. And so the conversation, the narrative around that is, did they give them the bag and now they’re just not that motivated? And and I don’t, you don’t know, right? You don’t know what’s going on in their hearts. I’m sure they’re working really, really hard. But I wonder if for Renifo, he’s a utility guy. You can move me around. I’m going to be in the lineup. And so maybe there was a bit of like, yeah, I’ll figure it out. Yeah, everything’s kind of going to kind of work out itself, right? And then you have Christian Moore come in and you go, “Hm, top prospect, number one guy. He’s, you know, kind of clutch. Oh, that’s a that’s a that’s a walk-off.” Okay. You know what I mean? Like, yeah. You know that. I mean, I would pay attention to it, wouldn’t you? Like, I I it would it would affect me. I’d be like,
I don’t want to lose my job, so I better I better focus in. I better get my my my junk together, right? Like, I better figure this out. And so, I know from the human perspective, it we don’t know. We don’t know what’s going on in his head, but I know from the human perspective, I’d be like,
“Oh, Christian’s here.” Um, okay. I better uh better let me let me do two more sets. Let me do let me do 15 more swings. Right. That’s what I would do.
I would fill that. Yeah. Well, and you mentioned him being an at bats guy. Mike, I think he loves playing the game. And like out out of everybody on this team, like over the last couple of years, for as rough as it’s been, Renifo like you can you can see it, right? you can see that he pours his heart and soul into everything that he does. That’s why I think it’s a shame that, you know, he’s had a couple of seasons cut off by injury. And I also think it’s a shame that we’re probably getting to a point where he’ll be traded at the trade deadline to get something of value back. I saw a rumor that the Yankees were interested in him and that’s that’s been something that’s come up a few times and I know Yankee fans have brought it up. So that might be something there or you know they don’t as we’ve talked about where you know worst case scenario with this team is that they stand pat they probably won’t go buying with a bunch of prospects like we were worried about they will probably stand pat at the worst and when it comes to if they don’t sell right I think selling would be a good thing for a lot of this team because it would reinforce them for next year so for Renhifo to play up right now. I mean, he’s adding to his trade value. He’s got to get a contract after this year if he doesn’t get an extension from the Angels or maybe even the team that he ends up with. And, you know, it’s like it’s a walk year. And he has not been impressive. But, he’s a super utility guy. Not particularly great at anything, but comp competent mostly at second base. That’s the That’s the biggest thing. Mike, you you mentioned third base. You know what’s funny is I think statistically his second best position is shortstop over third base. And so I think it goes second short stop and then third. Um all of that to say it’s been really great to see him turn the corner. Um I I think I agree with you in the sense that there probably was some inspiration coming from the fact that Christian Moore came up. It also says, “Hey Louis, you’re not cutting it. We got to bring this kid up now. And yeah, we’re excited about this kid. You’re not going to lose your job because we need you in there. We’re not going to start Kevin Newman every day. We’d rather have you every day. However, uh Christian’s here because you’re not cutting it. Yeah,
I think that’s a big part of the conversation. So, I think maybe there was a conversation, maybe there was a talking to. All of that to say, I’m a big Lou Reano fan. I like when we call him Louis. Uh but Luis Renifo, he’s just been, like I said, the heart and soul for this team when years have not been so great. He’s he’s been uh you know, a bright spot for the Halos. I’ll be interested to see how his future with the team plays out. Money, money, money, money, monarch money. Your personal CFO is Monarch Money. There’s no top players, right? We We’ve got two in the top 100, but you know, I think uh I think Dana fell out of Baseball America’s top 100. Um
here’s the thing though, Mike, the Angels have used eight players that they drafted uh in the first round this year. Neto, Shaunell, Demmer’s, Adele, Ward, Trout. Yes, he counts. Bachmann and Christian Moore, the last team to have eight first round picks play on the same roster at the same time, the 1991 Milwaukee Brewers back when they were an American League team.
How about that? Yep.
So, Baseball America, they do annual ratings of the Angels Farm and they ranked it as one of the worst in baseball. Um, but recently editor-inchief JJ Cooper had to take a step back and applaud this uh this moment where the Angels had those eight top first round picks in uh the uh in the game together. He said it’s hard to be critical of a team having eight first rounders on their roster at the same time. That is a truly unusual or that is truly unusual and I would say a pretty special achievement. Now, Tim Miklvane is the current scouting director for the Halos, and he selected guys like Zach Neto, Nolan Shaell, Christian Moore. Keep this guy. He’s doing a great job. Uh, and he said to have his guys play along with previous first round picks, it felt pretty special. In Mickelane’s words, he said for everything to click and to get the guy that you really thought they were going to be or hoped that they would be, that’s a pretty big accomplishment. To have eight of them click, that’s just crazy and doesn’t happen in baseball. Well, now just to affirm how crazy this is, John, here’s some stats. From 2011 to 2020, a span far enough back that could give every one of those draft picks some reasonable time to make it. 77% of all first round picks reached the majors. That includes players who had a handful of games and then disappeared. As of last Wednesday, 23% of all players on active MLB rosters were former first round picks. But just under half of those players were with the teams that originally drafted them. And here’s where it’s really crazy. Eight first round picks for the Angels playing all at the same time. The average the average team has 2.9 active players who were homegrown firstrounders. This is super unique. And the Angels are are failing up. They’re leading the pack in this. It’s funny for Miclane to say like for everything to click and you get what you thought the guy was going to be. I think that there’s we we could push back on that a little bit when you consider, you know, Sam Bachmann like the poor guy has dealt with a lot of injuries. probably not exactly what you thought he could be or should be, but if he can remain healthy and he’s a big piece of the bullpen. Now, I know that maybe you don’t want to draft a number one pick and it ends up being a bullpen guy. That’s what you that’s what you call reliever risk, right? When you draft somebody and they say he’s got reliever risk, that means like, yeah, his ceiling is probably going to be a reliever. Um, yeah. So, so to say it’s all clicking, I get what he’s trying to say, but I think I would push back on that statement a little bit just to be realistic and fair.
Well, he’s he’s really specifically talking about his three guys, the guys that he drafted and the fact that they’re making a huge impact. And it’s cool that they’re playing with the other guys that came during the Eper era, right? And and previous eras. And so, he’s really focused on his three guys, but you’re right, like Sam Bachmann is not somebody that you’re like, “Yay, seventh inning guy. We drafted him in the first round. This is rad.
Yeah, exactly. Especially when that was the all pitcher draft and that was uh there was a lot of guys they passed on including pitchers. I think like George Kirby was in that draft. So that
Yeah, let’s move on.
So with eight first rounders in the majors, why do the Angels regularly get ranked near the bottom? The reason for that is the volume of quality prospects after the Netos and the Shaunells. They don’t have a lot of depth. In fact, JJ Cooper of Baseball America, he said, “There’s not a lot of depth of prospects, but at the same time, I do want to give the Angels credit for this. Depth is less important than producing big league regulars. And on a given night, the Angels can have six first round regulars in their lineup. It’s an accomplishment.” So, let me uh say that again. Depth is less important than producing big league regulars. So, as a fan and to our everydayers, are you comfortable with the lack of depth but happy with the quality big league regulars? Mike, what do you think about that question?
I am right now because this is how Arty wants to run this team
and and Perry Manosian is building this team that way and that’s how Perry’s playing in the in the sandbox, right? And so, I I’m I’m okay with that. I I would love to have depth. I would love to have three layers of depth. I think they’re adding to it and I think those guys just haven’t eval been evaluated. I know uh is it Gabriel Davalo uh Davalo? Yeah.
Yeah. That they got in the international draft. Uh Jared Tims is high on him. In fact, he tweeted from talking halos. He tweeted just the other day that Davalo will probably be his personal number one prospect in the Angels organization next season because of how well he’s played so far in some of the some of the the rookie leagues and and I think Dominican leagues that he’s in.
That’s another aspect that I don’t think gets talked about enough is the Angels activity on the international free agency market. you know, that’s where we get our Nelson Rodas and our Denzer Guzmans and our Gabriel Davalos, right? So, those are very important and crucial aspects to this system and these prospects that um are years away to be honest with you. And you know, Nelson Rada, I I don’t know if he’s 19 still. I know he was 19 last year and so I don’t know when his birthday is, but the fact is somebody that we’re excited about, but he’s 19, right? So, and he’s having a great season. remember last year he didn’t do great in double A but it was like all right try him again and see if he can hang and so far he’s hanging in AA and that’s pretty exciting to see despite the team not having a great record Nelson Rada is a bright spot in that but also I think the international free agency market and a lot of those guys that they’ve signed are going to have a huge impact in the future and we’re not quite ready to talk about them because they’re still years off and So, I think that’s going to influence the uh the prospect rankings. Now, some of these guys are in the angels top prospects when they get ranked. At the same time, I think more of those international free agents are going to rise to the top and open up eyes like Jared Tims shouting the praises of Gabrielle Davalo Davalo, right? So, uh it’s just a matter of time, I think, before some of those international free agents start to start to emerge. But again, uh I do give JJ Cooper props because remember last week I said they double down on the fact that you know the the Angels don’t have a good system. They came hard. Yeah, they came really strong.
Exactly. So, uh it’s interesting that he, you know, dialed it back. Maybe he listens to us. Maybe that’s what happened. We called him out and uh he said, “You know what, Halo Bros, you’re right. I got to give you credit.”
We salute you. Thanks for making Locked On Angels your first listen of the day. And now for your second listen, check out the allnew Locked Only Game Night. can find Game Night on Lockdown MLB’s YouTube channel or wherever you get your podcasts.

We just also try to comment on everything as well and get back to you. Mike, what do we have on deck for Thursday’s show? Well, the question is, will Trout ever go back to the outfield? He certainly looked pretty healthy last night hustling in the seventh inning for that double and then Solair missing that ball in the outfield makes us go maybe we could make a switch there, right? Like we’re going to share some thoughts about that. We’ve got some reports from Jeff Fletcher and others and our opinions as well and we’re going to talk about trout in the outfield possibly tomorrow on Locked on Angels.
By the way, I love that Gustavo Compro stayed with the team even though Silera got activated and him pinch running for him and then going into right. I love Campo. I think he’s, you know, he’s perfect in the role that he’s in, right? So, I’m glad that he stuck with the team. All right, friends. We hope you’ll come back and join us. Until then, my name is John, and that’s my brother, Mike.
And my name is Mike, and that’s my brother John.

  1. Hey, guys. Your favorite Marlins fan here. Thanks for taking down the Braves while helping the Halo playoff hopes. The Marlins are tied with Atlanta now in the NL East. Can you believe it? A year of progress our teams. Cheers.

  2. LOA Good show. Jon I hope you're right about Rengifo and he gets traded. Jon keep in mind Arte's tradition. Letting his own free agents go for nothing. I hope your right and Arte's tradition changes.

  3. Having 8 1st round draft picks on the same 26 man roster is indicative of a decade of high draft picks due to a decade of losing baseball. Sad, but true.

  4. Rengifo has been my favorite angel the last few years. He's also really nice. I met him and got my jersey signed the day his upturn started. If anybody else is slumping, just let me know and I'll go talk to em 😅😂

  5. I like seeing Trout hustle and getting it started. Rengifo looks like he might be done with his slump. All in all great game and back at .500. Tyler Anderson is BACK hopefully. Great show as always and thanks for always doing great research to make great shows

  6. Let Anderson go longer than you don't need to use up Jensen in 4-0 game, don't use him with that big of a lead because we going to need him for the rest of the road trip

  7. Logan has been struggling and he looked even worse last night. Imagine if everyone started to click again. That Holmes slider made everyone look bad last night.

  8. And while it's a "feel-good" story to have 8 1st round picks on the 26 man roster, it would feel a lot better if the prospects were good enough to attract a great player in trade. Case in point — The RSox traded their 1st round picks from 2023 and 2024 for Garret Crochet. Last winter, Perry could have offered the White Sox any 10 players, total, for Crochet, and they would have passed.

  9. I think the Angels are drafting like they need to right now. They haven't been very good, so they're going after "big league ready" guys and that has been paying off. If you're a team like the Dodgers that are already a championship caliber team and also have excellent players in the minors that is the perfect scenario. So while I'm happy with how the Angels have been drafting, I also think it's very important to have minor league depth so that we can keep bringing up home grown guys over time to keep infusing the team with top players.

  10. That bases loaded ab by O’hoppe was embarrassing. The kind of ab that made me understand why Travis is getting more playing time (I’d prefer O’hoppe going everyday but I get it when he can’t field well and now has been struggling for awhile at the plate)

  11. Adell made changes that have paid off. I was hard on him in the spring, happy he’s doing so well. Let’s hope Montgomery goes for the series win today. No Newman, no Wade, no D’nuard, no two out walks.

  12. Hi Mike & Jon !!
    Thank you !!!!
    Great,solid win in Atlanta.
Yes, the Braves are scuffling but they are always capable of turning it around.
Hope to win 1 of 2 to take the series.
Back to .500 ! Really hoping we're really close to this on October 1st.
Regardless, play all our kids the rest of the season and sell at the trade deadline.
The more playing time all our kids get the next 3 months the better we will
be for it in 2026 and beyond.
Next year is when that playoff opportunity should open up, we're getting closer
but we need the kids to get more experience.
Our kids have really taken ownership of our Angels.
    Take good care everyone
    Go Angels !!!!

  13. Rengifo is streaky as hell. Always expect a prolonged slump to the point you think he's useless, then suddenly he becomes one of our best hitters. Reminds me of a poor man's Howie Kendrick.

  14. Guys, I attended an Angel game last month for the first time since 2012 and sadly saw the Angels fall to the HATED Astros 8-7. It was a hard fought game and I was reminded that today, as in 2012, Angels fans are some of the Classiest fans in the League. I even got some laughs from them when I said that Trouts foul out went higher than Katy Perry's space flight! I would never disrespect the Angels by wearing my Dodgers Jersey to Angels stadium but I saw several people who did and no problem with the fans. Win one for Wash!!!
