4 guys that made some of the most iconic T.V. calls in league history! We had it so good in the 90's up until Doc retired. Thank god we still have Eddie but NHL on T.V. in the states will never be the same. The tribute video Doc made for NBC when the league was moving to ESPN would just about bring a tear to a grown mans eye that worked with him and for people that grew up listening to him.

It was a great time to be a fan!

  1. Now we have Mickey Redmond and Ken Daniels. God bless the Wings broadcast team, nobody does it better atm.

Boy do I miss Doc though. Iconic. Playoff hockey is simply not the same without him.

  2. Can we bring back Mike Emrick to do Devils and Playoff games again?

Always remember in 2014, would watch the Rangers final at bars and it was so good to watch that final ,with him doing commentary

  3. Bob Wischusen is pretty alright for playoff hockey, but agreed… Gary and Doc can’t be matched

  4. Eddie? You’ve got to be shitting me. Did you have Pierre McGuire in 5th?

Doc’s best partner was John Davidson in the 90s. “Oh, Baby!”

  5. Doc was with the devil’s when I was growing up in New Jersey then moved over to NBC full time. The thought that hockey could be called in a voice other than Doc’s never occurred to me.

  6. If the NHL offered a commentary-free stream I’d actually consider paying. Dont need a Captain Hindsight narrating what is happening on the ice…as im watching what’s happening on the ice.

  7. Gary Thorne and Bill Clement were always my favorites, there’s no denying Doc is a legend too. Can do without Olczyk.

To think how far we’ve fallen through, with Sean McDonough and Ray Ferraro. Atrocious.

  8. Emrick is the most overrated, annoying PbP guy. Endzo is just a brutal analyst.

Thorne, Clement are old school ESPN icons

  9. Emrick fucking suck. Holy fuck is that guy irritating. Just call the game and stop thumbing through a thesaurus to find a new adjective for passing the puck every 2 seconds.

  10. I worked on Bruins broadcasts in the nineties and I was so psyched when we were pursuing Gary Thorne, then was really bummed when we couldn’t make it happen.

  11. We in Philly were lucky enough to have Doc and Bill Clement doing the Flyers games for many years.

  12. So many Americans in here that don’t know what good play by play and colour commentary for a hockey game is…….so sad
