Rangers vs. Padres Game Highlights (7/5/25) | MLB Highlights
What a great season it has been for Manny Machado coming up on a milestone. He’s three hits shy of 2000. Eric Shiao, 10 years with the Padres’s. And there is his wife, Carameia Shia. She was invited to throw out the first pitch today to Bruce Bochi, who was teammates with her former husband, Eric. Sound of a special moment on the ball game.
Steven Kolic on the mound tonight for San Diego.
And with each outing this year, this one being his 12th, he’s getting better and better. The RA starting to shrink a little bit. 62 and 2/3. Not a lot of strikeouts, so some sinkers, some grounders when he’s on his game. Josh Smith ready to go to work.
And Smith blasts the first pitch deep out to ride. It’s gone. What a start for Josh Smith and the Rangers tonight. One pitch in and they have the one- nothing lead. That’s the game within the game. Our leadoff hitter, Josh Smith, first pitch, four seam fast. He loves it. It’s right down the middle.
Three and two again to Seager. Seventh pitch of the atbat and a swing and a miss. Got a fast ball past him. So one away here in the top of the first inning. And Garcia big swing. Sends a towering drive to right center. It’s carrying Merryill’s going back onto the warning track and he’s got room to make the catch and end the inning. Patrick Corbin the veteran gets a start for the Rangers tonight. 35 years old, four and seven in his 15 starts.
The O2 swinging a miss. Change up from Corbin takes care of Tatis. He strikes out on three pitches. Manny base hit into right field. So a two out knock and he gets closer to 2,000 now. Two away.
Yeah, change it, Brett. Not a kid. Could be the night tonight. Stay tuned.
Padres’s have something going with two down here in the first inning. Here’s Xander Bogarts. Good sign to see him back in the lineup tonight after leaving the game with the cramps yesterday.
And that ball is lined into left field. Langford coming on. He slides and he makes the grab. Wyatt Langford just back from the injured list with a terrific sliding catch that saves a run. So they had a board for last night’s walk-off hero. Jake Croninorth to right field. Back goes Garcia onto the warning track. It’s gone into the crown zone. Two-run shot puts the Padres’s on top. Two to one. Oh, that’ll rally the troops. It’s a two seamer and it’s right down the middle. Thank you very much. And Jake leans on it. There are home runs and then there are big home runs. One swing to take the lead. Takes the pitch inside and hit him. Got him somewhere along the right arm
on first with Kyle Gashoka batting out of the nine spot. 216 with a home run. 16 runs batted in fora
and he swings and lifts one high in the air to left field here. Sheets back track wall out of here. Higgy’s porch visited by the Rangers catcher but in a Rangers uniform. His second homer of the season, his first since April 19th when he went deep against the Dodgers and the Rangers resecure the lead. It’s three to two. Hitting to the left field bleachers and that has to feel great for Higgy.
Luis Arise most multi-hit game since the beginning of 2023. 142 of them for Luis Arise. swings a soft liner leaping grab by Smith. He froze in the air. Somehow he was able to pull it in. It looked like he stopped at the top of his jump and just waited for the ball.
So the Rangers with a base runner here in the fourth. That brings up Jonah and that’s drilled toward the right field corner. That is a base hit. It bounces twice and hits the wall. Langford’s at third being waved home. Here comes the relay throw. Langford scores standing up. RBI double for Jonah and the Rangers lead 4 to2. Well, with Langford going on the pitch given the situation, full count, two outs, that was probably the difference because Tatis plays it cleanly. He’s got a great arm, delivered a great throw back to the infield. But right there, Langford being in motion, allowing the Rangers to scratch across another run. So first and third, all of this happening after Kolic had retired the first two batters. And here’s Hagashi who homered to left back in the third. Kick delivers a bouncer left side. That’s through. Base hit and will touch the plate. RBI single by Hagashi. It’s five to2. How about the bottom of the order for the Rangers? Higgy batten in the ninehole. Has a two-run homer and now has an RBI single. Now the first pitch of this inning, a line around and to left and there he is again. Langford with another great reaction taking one away from Bogarts. He’s good at this. Wait, is this the first inning? No, it’s the start of the fourth inning. Same play. Boy, great result.
And the Rangers have runners at the corners with one away in the sixth inning. Alagashio batting with runners at first and third. Runner going and this one is in the air right field. Tatis was deep but comes in to make the catch. Tagging at third base. Langford. Here comes the throw. Not in time. And Langford beat that soundly. A sacrifice fly into short right field. And you get a little taste of that speed of Wyatt Langford. Six-2 Rangers.
Man, I was hoping he would tag. Opportunity for the Rangers to win a game. And it seems like whenever Corbin takes the mound, he keeps the Rangers in the game or like tonight puts them in the driver’s seat to win the game. He’s allowed just two runs through five innings.
There’s a swing and a miss and Bogarts strikes out one away.
That’s a big strike out on the cutter here.
The one two swinging a ball looped in the air to left center field. Langford going back into his left. He’s got it and that ends the inning. So a quality start indeed for Patrick Corbin. Carneal Nunes into the game for the Padres’s. made his major league debut in game two of that Wednesday double header in Philadelphia.
Two and two the pitch and Garcia swings a ground ball to shortstop. Bogarts in between hop fires to second one. A glacius quick turn is in time and a double play to end the inning. So Eduardi El Nunes comes on after inheriting the lead walk and doesn’t give up a thing. Time to stretch here in San Diego. Rangers six, Padres’s two. Base is loaded with nobody out here for the Padres’s in the seventh inning. And he got Jackson Merrill coming up and a fly ball towards right center field. Over goes Garcia. He’ll make the catch. Tagging at third and scoring is Conorth also tagging and moving over is Brooks. Padres’s cut the lead in half. It’s now six to three. Well, Manny Machado one hit so far tonight. Single to right in the first inning. One for three now.
And that’s muscled in the air to center field. Pretty deep. Carter back a little into right center to make the catch. Runs will tag and score. Second straight sack fly. And now a two-run game at six to four.
First and second now for Xander Bogart.
Xander 0 for three, but he’s hit the ball well twice.
Leo2 strike three called over the plate. Might have been a little low, but Allan Porter gives Hobie Milner the call and the strikeout ends the inning. So the Rangers escape further damage.
First and third with two away. And here is Hagashi who has driven in four runs tonight. Runner goes from first. A bouncer to that open right side. That’s a base hit. It scores another run. And Hagashi drives in his fifth run of the night. Robert Garcia the left-hander is on here in the ninth. He has six saves so far in his 39 games this season. One and four record. 291 RA and the 234 batting average against.
And that is a fast ball strike three called. And Tatis Jr. goes down looking one away. Just like that, the Padres’s had the tying run coming to the plate in Manny Machado.
Swinging a miss is Machado out on strikes as he chased a change up that was down. Here we go. 74 Texas on top. Padres’s have the bases loaded. Rangers bring in Sean Armstrong. Greer with the bases loaded. X seven grand slams on his resume. Swinging a bouncer to third over the bag. Fair fielded by Smith. He touches the bag that forces Merrill with the game’s final out. And the Rangers hold on to defeat the Padres’s by the final score of seven to four. They even up this
