Caleb Love Media Availability | July 6, 2025 | Portland Trail Blazers

Uh, Caleb, so first off, how would you say, uh, summerly practice have gone for you so far and for the team?
Uh, it’s been going great, man. I just been learning each and every day. Um, you know, just trying to, you know, be a sponge and, you know, like I said, ask questions and, um, just be myself. Is that kind of your goal for your run here at summer league? Just kind of I mean, an opportunity to show what you can do. Obviously, you’re on a two-way, so I’m guessing that that you might maybe just want to go out and show kind of this is the player I am.
Yeah, for sure. I mean, you know, like I said, I’ve been asking a lot of questions. um you know what is expected of me and uh just trying to do the as best as I can and to to show you know um you know I deserve to be in the league and um that you know I can you know be a great player.
Were the Blazers in commun because you know you agreed to the two-way right after the draft right after you went un drafted. You kind of in communication with the team the whole way about like if you don’t get drafted we’re interested.
Yeah for sure. Um that’s kind of what me and my agent was talking about and uh we was having constant communication on you know some of the teams that was you know interested in me and um we felt like you know uh the Trailblazers were was the best fit and you know I’m happy to be here.
For Blazer fans, how would you describe your game? Um, you know, I feel like I’m versatile and all any any role you put me in, I could, you know, succeed as far as, you know, being point guard, playing a little bit, point guarding, um, you know, showcasing my playmaking abilities, but, you know, also just being a defensive, you know, pest, uh, picking up full court, u being able to get over screens and, you know, guarding the other team’s best player and things like that. So, um, getting out in transition, you know, we want to play fast and things like that. So, I feel like I can show a lot and then as well as shooting as well.
You mentioned about the finding the right fit for you. What what what was it about Portland that you think kind of made the most sense for you to to to for your landing spot?
Yeah, I mean um it’s a young team um you know and you know we kind of like uh putting the pieces together. You know, you already got you know Scoot um DC um you know you got guys that’s already been here um to Montani Kamar who’s a great player and um so I feel like I can fit you know right in um and you know contribute right away.
What are your first what are your first impressions of Hansen after having a couple days of practice with him? Oh man, he’s he’s great, man. You know, uh you know, just communicating with him. He’s always got great energy and um you know, obviously it’s a language barrier, but uh we trying to make it as simple as possible for him and um you know, just continue to you know, make things easier for him, but you know, he’s talented. You know, he got the good great footwork. Um touch around the basket. Um he’s a great playmaker and um it’s easy to play with him.
And shooting and shot selection sort of two of the key areas you have to improve on.
Oh yeah, for sure. Uh decision- making, all of that uh plays a part. Um, and you know, I think as you know, practices have been going and me watching a lot of film, um, I see, you know, where my shots are coming from, you know, where where passes are supposed to be. Um, and so I think just, you know, like I said, just getting more and more reps and, you know, repping it out, I feel like, you know, is going to, you know, translate in summer league.
Ronnie mentioned that he wanted more from you vocally leadership wise. What What’s different about that from college to the NBA now? It’s actually not different. Um, you know, I had to be a leader at both at both spots. since I was at North Carolina and Arizona. Um, so I think it’s just, you know, me being comfortable and talking to my teammates and, you know, obviously getting to know them a lot more, um, as days go by, you know, we we creating a little bit of chemistry, um, as the days go by. So, uh, just me, you know, being comfortable with, you know, speaking speaking my voice and, you know, when I do know, um, something or if I see something on the court, uh, speaking out on it.
