And it’s all next on a live lockdown Tigers postcast. So, buckle up, dial it in, and let’s get after it. As always, your comments are welcome. But the Tigers get the win tonight, a 51 victory. They jump on the opposition early with the two-run homer from Jav Bayz to begin the scoring in this one. And how about you had Scott Harris on the broadcast with Jason Benetti. Got to love that. And talking about the prowess of this farm system, obviously with the recent call-ups to Double A Erie, Kevin McGonagle at the top of that list, as well as Max Clark, you know, that’s an exciting time in the organization. And oh, by the way, the big league club has the best record in the American League and a strangle hold on the division. As the game continued on, how about Riley Green after the Rays made it 2-1. A little insurance run there in the fifth inning with a single that scored Colt Keith. And why was Colt Keith on? Well, because he had quite the day. Three extra base hits, two doubles, a home run later in the seventh that made it 4-1. And then Zack McKinstry doing what he does, tacking on the exclamation point to make it 5-1. Folks, I’ll say it till I’m blue in the face. Zack McKinstry deserves to be an allstar. And we know it. Major League Baseball knows it. We all know it. But let’s continue on with the live unlocked on Tigers postcast. Appreciate all the comments. We begin where you know we love to go. The biggest talking point and what you would tell your friends if you had to tell them about the game that they missed. It’s our biggest talking point. This is what you’ll be talking about. I think I would classify this game as if all things are going well for the Tigers, they can be scary good. And the record is a testament to that. With Kater Montero throwing the way that he did combined with this lineup, this Tigers team is scary good and it’s not a fluke. And I was getting into this debate with some buddies over the weekend and today’s just more proof of that is this team can’t do anything else to silence any critics to minimize the noise to prove they belong to prove that they’re for real and it just doesn’t seem like this team gets a lot of that love nationally. Now I’m not here campaigning for the national pundits to love on the Detroit Tigers because it is what it is. But tonight was just another example of, hey, the Rays are a solid ball club. The Tigers are a solid ball club. Kater Montero gives you a really quality start and you find ways to get to the opposition and score some runs and route to a 5-1 win. I mean, there wasn’t anything fancy about it. For Montero, it was six innings, four hits, one earned run, four strikeouts, and one walk. And he looked comfortable. He looked in control. And I don’t want to say there were no highlights tonight, but you know, you get a couple of home runs here. The the Bayas two-run home run brings the crowd to its feet, but it was just a solid win. I mean, nothing fancy, just going out there and taking care of business. And that’s what I love about this ball club is night in and night out. That’s the kind of effort you’re going to get from the Detroit Tigers. First place, Detroit Tigers with an excellent farm system, an incredible front office that you believe in, the best, I would say, one of the best managerial staffs in all of baseball led by AJ Hinge. And again, a bullpen that showed up today because if you were to critique this Tigers team, where at times have they shown some some chinks in the armor? It’s with the bullpen. And I I I think tonight was an example of what this bullpen can be cuz again the the Rays are no slouch. I mean they’re I’m not here to crown them either. Obviously they’re not a first place club but they’re fighting. They’re a playoff contending team and you know it’s one of 162. How many times do we say that? But I’m watching tonight just thinking, yeah, this is a first place Tigers baseball team. This is a good baseball team with really good players with really good pitchers. and nights like tonight, you just sit back and kind of enjoy the show, the show. And you know, there was I had to laugh and and I know I’m I’m kind of all over the place, but um when the second baseman for the Rays um Cabo went into the netting there um or was it was it uh it might have been um No, it was the third baseman. My apologies. It was Cababanero um going into the netting on the third base side and having to be fished out like a a fish and I’m watching that and I just kind of thought, you know, baseball’s great. I I love baseball. Night in and night out, you’re going to see something that you don’t normally see. And that was uh the example of that tonight. And I just thought, you know, Tigers have a comfortable lead in this one. You got players uh jumping into the netting and it it’s just it’s a it’s a fun fun baseball team to support and in the dog days of summer like we’re in right now. I was talking to one of the bosses at Lockdown Sports about this is it helps a lot when your team’s really good and and I’ll be transparent with each and every one of you. It’s way more fun when the Tigers are really really good and tonight showed that they’re a really good baseball team. Now, before we get into our player of the game, our turning point, and that much more, let’s take some of these comments because it’s a collaborative effort around here on Locked on Tigers postcast. Demetrius McNeel, he’s first up, and he said it’s official. Colt Keith owns the Rays, two RBI’s last September, and tonight, three hits, including a solo home run. Tell the radio station to play the song Good Night. The Tigers won again. Absolutely. Brilland Dennis is up next. Javi, Zack, and Keith Homer. That’s right. Three long balls for the Tigers tonight. And listen, Comica Park, say what you will about it. We’ve had these discussions in the past and it’s it’s become more hitter friendly than it used to be. Um I mean, I can remember when we would affectionately call it Comica National Park when it was 420 to straightaway center field. And even when it was first introduced in 2000, you had the bullpens in left field and right field was that much further back. Um or I’m sorry, you had the bullpen. I said that backwards. You had the bullpen’s in right field and left field was uh where you know all the way back to where the back part of the bullpen is and it was just a bohemoth ballpark. And it’s obviously become more hitter friendly with moving the fences in and so on and so forth. But it’s still, make no mistake about it, it’s still a tough place to go yard from time to time. And the Tigers made it look easy tonight with three home runs. Mark is up next. Montero is big and hopefully Keith keeps it up and OFC, my boy McKinstry is Allstar worthy. And is that OFC? Someone you got to help me with that. Is that of course? Um I I’m not uh I’m not hip on the abbreviations, but yeah, I agree. McKinstry is absolutely all-star worthy. There is just there’s no other way to put it. He should be in Atlanta representing the Detroit Tigers. YouTube users up next. great game, but we don’t have the division wrapped up yet. Got to keep moving forward. I think that goes without saying, but you know, it’s it’s certainly worth pointing out. Obviously, the Tigers are in a better position than anybody in Major League Baseball with the lead that they’ve built in the division, but of course, you’re not I mean, we’re not into the All-Star break yet. there’s uh uh an intensity and a focus on continuing to drive that that nail into the coffin in the rest of the division just like the Tigers did this weekend and at Progressive Field against the Guardians. I mean, that is what good teams do. They go out and they stick it to the opposition in a big way like they did against the Cleveland Guardians. Brilland Dennis is up next. He says, “Monto had a stellar performance on the mound.” Indeed, he did. Here’s Johnny 2.0 says, “Yeah, Lego City Dad. Pitching has been consistently terrific since their away games at Tampa Tampa’s minor league park.” That’s a good point. Yeah, I remember that was a weekend series and I just remember thinking, man, I just I don’t love this ballpark. I I don’t like playing against the Rays and uh that was a a tough weekend. They did salvage the last game of that series, but uh Lego City, I appreciate you putting that comment in there. Brilland Dennis says, “Give me one good reason why Zach McKinstry is not an all-star right now.” People are crazy. They just they because it’s not a big name. They don’t want to give him that recognition that he so rightfully deserves. CB is up next. Great win, but Riley Green seems physically incapable of hitting fast balls this last month. It worries me. There’s always going to be things to worry you. And I agree. Um he I mean even that Cleveland series, he did not have a hit. you have a hit against this the Guardians that this season until that home run. So Riley Green is showing to be a bit streaky and that’s one thing and all baseball players have had instances where they go in hot and cold spells of course, but Riley Green is showing there to be a lot of streakiness to his game. Um but when he’s on man and tonight, you know, it’s not that he was off tonight. I mean, my goodness, he had the RBI single um in this game. Yes, it was his only hit of the ball game, but you still got to give him a lot of credit for the RBI single. Steven Lello is up next. I love a clean, easy dub. Let’s go, Ty. Yeah, that’s a good way to put it. Clean. I like that. Clean, clean, clean, clean. Um Jolt Music is up next. Need to keep Montero on the roster. He’s been low-key solid. I do think he represents a viable option as that fifth starter in the rotation while guys are out and obviously Job gone for the year. Um you would hope Monto can be a guy to compete for that fifth uh spot in the rotation and do it on a consistent level. But I’m way over time. Appreciate all the comments. Let’s keep the lights on and when we come back we will in fact have our player of the game and our turning point. It’s next live. Locked on Tigers Postcast. We continue on with the live lockdown Tigers postcast. After a 5-1 win over the Tampa Bay Rays, the Tigers now 58 and 34. My goodness, 24 games over 500 by my math. And meth is not my strength, but 31-4 at home. Wow, these Tigers are on a roll in this first half. And five more games left before the All-Star break with the conclusion in this home stand. Two more of course against the Tampa Bay Rays before the Seattle Mariners come to town. Let’s get into our turning point. Time to reveal where the game was won or lost. It’s the turning point. The easy one here is the Jav Bayas two-run homer because it got the crowd into it and that was really all Kater Montero needed. So, I I’m going to go ahead and declare that the turning point in this game, but obviously there’s little instances throughout the course of this game, the RBI single from Riley Green. Really, anytime you’re able to add the insurance to this game, it just keeps turning in the right direction. Now, correct me if I’m wrong, but I didn’t really feel like there was a traumatic moment in this game. It was just again a solid, clean victory in five in a 5-1 fashion. So, credit to the pitching staff for the Tigers, credit to the offense, and credit just overall to this Tigers team coming back from a road trip yesterday with the momentous win over Cleveland and just, hey, going out and taking care of business today and being ready to play at a high level. That’s what good teams do night in and night out. That’s with this Detroit Tigers team. How about our player of the game? This is the locked on player of the game. What’s interesting about the player of the game is the two players I have in mind, I can kind of have the same uh explanation for both of them in the sense that it was a very welcome site to see the production today, but it’s also kind of what we expect and what we’re hoping to get out of both of these guys. So, for that reason, I hope you’ll forgive me on this one. and for staying on the fence. But because the explanation behind both Colt Keith and Kater Montero’s performance are the same, let’s go ahead and make them both our player of the game. Because Colt Keith, the three hits, uh, three extra base hits, two doubles, and a home run. That’s great. That’s the kind of production we expect to see and that’s what we know he’s capable of. And he scored, uh, for the Detroit Tigers. Colt Keith scored and and two more runs and hitting in that leadoff spot. That’s so so important. And same with Kater Montero. We expect you to put forth quality starts when you get the opportunity and he did exactly that. Six innings, four hits, one earn run and the four strikeouts. So again, just a really, really solid night from these Detroit Tigers. Great team win. Back at it tomorrow. We’ll be with you, of course, following the conclusion of the Tigers and Rays in game two of the series. Now, according to the Tigers projections, it’ll be Jack Flareity starting tomorrow, 641st pitch. And it’ll be it’ll be interesting to see if Flity can continue to take steps forward because I think we can all agree that he is not in position to be the second starter if and when this Tigers team makes the postseason. So, four-game winning streak for the Tigers after the 5-1 win tonight. Jack Flity goes tomorrow, 6:40 first pitch. Make sure you join us for that one. As always, it’s been a pleasure being on the air talking Tigers baseball. Make sure you like and subscribe. Check out Lockdown Tigers with Scott Bentley.
