Hey everybody, welcome to Hockey Skatedown. Before we get into the video, I just want to say thank you to all my subscribers. If you want to join a hockey team, it’s free. Click subscribe, hit the notification bell to all. Thank you all so much. And let’s get started. So, the New Jersey Devils have a new play-by-play broadcaster. Uh replacing Bill Spalding is Don LGrea. Don LGrea will do the shows now with Kenny Dano. And uh you know, I was shocked. You know, I’m doing this video later in the night. Uh, this news broke uh earlier in the day. I didn’t have a chance to do a video all day, but I had to do a video on this because I like Don Lrea and it’s the new new voice of the New Jersey Devils. So, I’m excited for this, but I’m also sad to see Bill Spalding go. Um, I didn’t know too much about Bill Spalding when he came to replace uh Steve Kangalloce, but over these past three seasons, I like what I saw from Bill. He did a good playby-play announcing. Um, I liked his tweets that he was giving out. Very informative. Uh, whether what’s going on pregame, postgame, whatever. He was giving out a lot of uh interesting information on social media. And I like the chemistry he was building with Kenny Dano and Rachel and Bryce. So, you can see they were forming a tightened family. And, you know, it sucks to see this happen because we saw this happen not too long ago with Erica Walker. A lot of Devils fans loved her. And, uh, you know, to see her replaced by Rachel was sad. But um you know of course you know watching the devils you kind of have to embrace the change. But you know it’s sad to see these people go because they do put all their heart out there to do this new job and to see them let go in a short time period when Devils fans are are getting used to them. It sucks to see happen. But you know this one I do like I do like Don LGrea. Uh I’ve been want I’ve been a fan of his since back in the day when he was on the NHL network. He did a show called NHL Live with um EJ Ratic. Uh, I actually got on the show once when I made a phone call. They allowed um fans to call in during certain segments and I I actually got on the show once, so that was cool. Um, you know, so so I I like that show. I like the chemistry that he had with EJ Ratic. Uh, Don McGre was funny. He was witty. You know, he knew his his thing about the sport and the players. So, um, you know, this is going to be an interesting change for Devils fans. You know, I think Don LGrea is going to bring a lot of energy. He’s very enthusiastic the way he talks and does his broadcasting and uh you know I think Devils fans will grow to love him. Question is it’s going to be a long-term thing hopefully. But uh you know the newsletter that was put out only said for the 20 uh for the 25 26 season. So we’ll see what happens. But um you know I hate seeing this over change happen every year or so. So hopefully Don’s with us for a while. But let’s talk about Don a little bit. Um, Don served as a Rangers backup radio play-by-play announcer pregame and postgame shows since 2005 2006. He’s the co-host of the Don Han and Rosenberg show on ESPN New York. He was the co-host of the Michael K show. And like I said, I I saw him on the NHL live show with uh him and EJ. So, he grew up he grew up a Devils fan. I heard him say it multiple times on that show. I know when I put this out on Facebook, a lot of people were saying, you know, but he’s a Ranger fan. He does Rangers things, but he grew up a Devil’s fan. You know, he was been a Devil’s fan. He’s a Devil’s tattoo of when they won the Cups. So, um, you know, this is going to be cool. And there’s a lot of interesting stuff going around social media where, um, Kenny Dano was the one that let him drink from the cup when they won it in 1995. So, this is truly a full circle moment to see him come back and and do this job with Kenny Dano alongside him. So, you know, Don LGrea had to say, uh, to be the voice of the team that got me into hockey as a kid, a team that represents my home state with an incredible fan base, and to follow in the footsteps of some of the great playby-play voices in the sport is an absolute dream come true. And to work al the legend Kenny Dano makes it that much sweeter. I can’t wait for the season to start. So, um, again, the newsletter said is for the 25 26 season, so hopefully it’s for a longer duration. I don’t know if, uh, Don LGrea is going to be doing other jobs with this as well. I don’t know what’s going to be going on with the current stuff he’s doing now, but, you know, this is cool. I like Don LGrea. You know, I don’t like when this happens uh, too often. We’ve seen it happen too often with the Devil’s uh, you know, Devil’s announcers and stuff like that. Um, you know, hopefully it’s not a thing that keeps happening, but I do like to see Don LGrea and, uh, you know, Kenny Dano. I think they’re going to be a good one-two punch. And, um, yeah, it’s going to be a cool thing. And to see a show called Don and Dano, it’s going to be cool. So, um, comment below. What do you think about this uh, news? Are you shocked? I’m still shocked about this, but are you shocked? Are you excited? Are you sad? Comment below and let me know. Thank you all for watching. I really appreciate your time. The NJ Devils and MSG Networks announced that Don La Greca is the new play by play broadcaster for the NJ Devils. La Greca will be the new voice of the Devils replacing Bill Spaulding alongside Ken Daneyko.
La Greca has worked on play by play for the NY Rangers, talked NY Yankees & all baseball talk as a cohost on the Michael Kay show, and has worked on the NHL Network in the past so is very versed with talking hockey. La Greca is a NJ Native and grew up a New Jersey Devils fan.

  1. Bill was fine as the pbp for NJ. I’m not to familiar with Don but I think he’s going to become a fan favorite. In reality though they should have given the job to Matt Loughlin who is the true voice of the NJ Devils.

  2. Bill was doing pretty good!! I just want this team to come together already play as team. Get back to being a scoring machine and with a D and a goalie who wants to win. Don & Dano should be good!! Sergi Brylin should be an assistant coach behind the bench. I know he is an assistant, but he is in the box during the game.
    Fitz needs to realize this.

  3. MSG Sports Network is the problem that the N.J. Devils face. Unfortunately The NHL and MSG.control the media in our area. I would Like to see a new network formed.called the New Jersey Sports Network that would broadcast all pro, college and high school sports in Jersey. That would be great. But it probably can't happen because the Cable Networks control the air waves. They use Blackouts and contracts and the viewers are screwed. The new change can work out.
