BREAKING: Suns Make NEW Signing… – This is AMAZING… | Suns News
Brian Gregory and Matt Ishbia strike again as with the latest update revolving around the Phoenix Suns. They just made a new signing and bringing in in their final two-way contract in Isaiah Livers, someone who has spent some time over in the NBA. So, what does Isaiah Livers bring to this Phoenix Sun? What could he ultimately bring to those other two-way contracts that Jordan also has on this roster? Well, we’re going to dive in and explore all of that and more on this episode of Suns Digest. I am Bruce Veles, and you guys have been absolutely fantastic showing your love and support here on the channel, which I really do appreciate. Let’s explore this Phoenix Suns team and let’s go over the recent updates. because like I mentioned, they just went out and brought in a new signing here. It’s going to be very interesting to see what this signing can bring for this Phoenix Suns roster as we see that free agent forward Isaiah Livers will now be signing a two-way NBA contract with the Phoenix Suns. Andy Schiffman and Mark Bstein of Priority Sports tell ESPN Isaiah Livers missed all of last season due to hip surgery, but has made a full recovery and now restarts his career for his fourth NBA season. And I had an article kind of on Bright Side of the Sun. So, if you want to check that out to get a little bit more detail about Isaiah Livers and stuff like that, definitely do. Livers spent his started off his career playing in Michigan in his hometown where he then spent his four-year college career playing for the Michigan Wolverines. He was then selected by the Detroit Pistons in the second round of the 2021 NBA draft with the pick 42 and played with the Pistons through their rebuilding years of Kate Cunningham with them trying to get better. Now, he played two or three seasons with the Pistons and then ultimately was traded from the Detroit Pistons to the Washington Wizards alongside Marvin Baggley in the 23-2 24 NBA season for Mike Muscala and Denilo Galinari. He was then ultimately then waved by the Washington Wizards as it was presumed that he was going to be out for the remainder of the season. And that’s where Isaiah Liter spent this entire season rehabbing and overcoming this hip injury to be ready to go for the NBA to make another splash and to make another noise. And I think this is very intriguing for a Phoenix Suns team as well that’s looking for a new culture, a new identity, guys that have, you know, been in the spotlight before. This is a perfect pickup for them to have on a two-way deal. Now, the Suns last year had it 32 contracts, and those were all players that we had an opinion on, but necessarily didn’t know how well they were going to thrive. Gillespie obviously proved a lot of people wrong. He was very solid in the summer league, looked good on Denver. I thought he was a little bit better than a two-way deal. But Jaylen Bridges and Tai Tai Washington were kind of younger, untapped potential pieces, guys that they could, you know, believe in to maybe take that step, but if not, it was going to be okay. And with the Suns, we see that Tai Tai is not back on a two-way deal. and Jaylen Bridges is going to be playing with the Celtics summer league team. So therefore, those guys will not be here in Phoenix next season. It will be the new guys on these two-way contracts. And one of them is a pick here from the Suns in the draft as we do see that Kobe Brea will be on a two-way deal. And we do see that a guy in uh CJ Huntley will also be on the other two-way deal, excuse me. So that leaves the Suns with their roster being predominantly filled at this point when looking at their salary cap. We see from Gerald Bor that the last we saw Isaiah Livers in the 23-24 season. He averaged five points per game and 2.4 rebounds in about 20 minutes over 23 appearances for the Pistons. He was a second round pick in the 2021 draft out of Michigan where he’s a 6’7 forward. He predominantly plays that power forward position. And that’s something that the Phoenix Suns have a little bit of a question mark over because if you want to look at their actual roster of the power forwards, you can have some real questions, right? Obviously Brad not predicted to be on this roster. We expect him to be gone. So with that being said, Jaylen Green and Deon Booker playing those guard positions. Dylan Brooks, maybe Ryan Dunn playing that starting power forward, but after that you have rookie and Rashier Fleming who looked who had his introductory press conference yesterday and seemed very confident to step out for the Suns as a three and D wing. There’s obviously some uncertainty revolving around him and there’s obviously some uncertainty revolving around Nigel Hayes Davis as he’s coming over in from Europe and is going to be that filler replacement at that wing position for the Phoenix Suns. So, when looking at Nigel Hayes Davis, when looking at a guy in Rashir Fleming, none of them really stand out and say to you, I’m the starting power for it, right? They’re guys that are going to have to compete for that role. Probably at my in my opinion probably are both uh bench power forwards for this Suns team at this moment. Maybe one of them translates into that small forward position if Ryan Dun starts the power forward. But ultimately for the Phoenix Suns, bringing in a guy in Isaiah Livers at that position ultimately does help because he can provide someone that can maybe step up and deliver for the Phoenix Suns on on the value similar to a guy in Colin Gillespie last season. We saw CG play on his two-way contract and with the injuries that the Suns dealt with and with the weird rotations that they dealt with, he was able to flourish alongside Devin Booker. Maybe a guy like Isaiah Liers who’s had that NBA experience, who’s been in that position before playing with a rebuilding Pistons team, he’s able to thrive within the Valley Suns and look a little bit better better than he is for a G-League guy. Obviously, as he’s had some NBA experience coming back from an injury, you expect him not to be getting a guaranteed contract, but a two-way to kind of prove himself if he can prove himself in the valley. Who knows? Maybe he gets some opportunity with the Suns if they are tanking or if they aren’t looking as great towards the end of the season and they want to rest some of their stars. Maybe this two-way player gets an opportunity and he shines and he looks great and the Suns do have a roster spot at the end of the rotation. Maybe he works himself to that final roster spot similar to what we saw with Colin doing last season. Now, obviously Colin wasn’t rewarded to it this season. So maybe Isaiah Li is kind of in that same boat where the Suns would analyze it and be like, do we really bring him back? But ultimately, I do think this is a nice flyer for the Phoenix Suns to take on, especially in a season where once again, the expectations are not high. We’re not expecting them, like last season, to be a top tier playoff team to be in these conversations. We’re expecting them to be probably around the similar record to last year, but at least be fun, exciting, and giving hard hard fought work on the court. And I do think a guy in Jordan can bring that out of the best of the Phoenix Suns. But not only just that, but a player in Isaiah Liers who could potentially be a nice flying piece of the Suns strike on late. Obviously dealing with injuries, but could be a blossoming piece that could help change the culture around at that power forward small position if he were able to pen out. Now, I’m not going to say 100% he’s going to work out. There’s obviously still some question marks as he has dealt with injuries in his career and we do know the Phoenix Suns over the last couple seasons have had some injury issues. Hopefully he doesn’t drink too much of the water in Phoenix and get those symptoms rolling into him for him in the Valley. But if he is able to overcome those injuries and really step out, be a solid scorer for the Phoenix Suns as a decent three-point shooter and be a pretty solid defender at that power forward position, he could be a fringe rotational piece on the bench that could potentially earn himself to being a key rotational piece down the line. And for the Suns, that’s what you want to be doing. That’s your main investment at this point. You’re not striking and taking $40 million contracts and star players. You’re trying to find those diamonds in the rough and hopefully they pan out alongside Deon Booker so this retool/webuild can go a little bit faster and you can be in a brighter spot in one to two seasons than you are now. So let me know your thoughts down below in the comment section what your ultimate thoughts are on the Isaiah Liver signing and if you guys think this screams the potential to be someone for the NBA. Are you just to think it’s another two-way contract? the Suns alongside him. Also have CJ Huntley who came out of the draft from Appalachian State and also Kobe Brea from Kentucky. So, it’s going to be interesting to see the two ways for the Suns this season. And I do think they’ll get a lot of opportunity not only for the Valley Suns, but also could strike some opportunities for the Phoenix Suns this season. All depending on how the record works looks or how the injuries are really transforming for this team. But like I said, let me know your thoughts down below in the comments section and how you guys ultimately feel about the signing. and I’ll catch you guys in the next one. Once again, thank you guys so much. Have a great rest of your day and go Phoenix Suns.
